7pm seems a reasonable time to be served reasonable food. How wrong were we!!! Problem 1. painfully slow service. With 3 ( very nice patient people) in front of me it took over 40 minutes before they prepared and wrapped half my order...and then some, when they messed up ( no apologies ) They had forgotten to cook my fish (yes they had run out of cooked FISH !!!) Delay due to rather rude discussion between server and cook and then finally frying my fish. Result = bad feeling and patience required again! Problem 2. Very poor reaction to my checking if food was still warm after such a LONG WAIT. The server called ME rude for this!!! She said there had been a queue ( of 3!!) She threatened not to serve me at all whilst the "cook" was chatting on the phone. I said give me my money back then if you don't want to provide food for my money ( oh yes they always make sure you pay before you join the queue). They said they could not give the money back...(effectively breaking the contract and threatening to steal my money from me in my opinion I thought). This thuggish behaviour was not right. The two of them said they would call the manager ( "cook's" dad apparently....so very objective !!!) and I said I would call the police then. They smiled at this....maybe they have done this routine before I thought? Effectively they were surely trying to steal from me at this point? Suddenly they seemed to think and finally wrapped and gave me the second half of my order and I thankfully left with them shouting at me not to bother to come back. Of course I would not! Other reviews show people leaving without food. Mmmm. Problem 3. Taste test. They can microwave pies ( I'll give them that)....but they were cold. The fish was flat (?) and greasy. The curry sauce was pretty cold and tasteless and the chips were totally inedible!!! They were brown, odd tasting ( due to I suspect old unclean oil) and cold!! Shocking!! Perhaps not so shocking given the saga..... This is a poor excuse for a Fish and Chip shop...my worst experience EVER! Do not go unless you wish to be treated to terrible service, attitude and food!!! How do they get any good reviews? Half seem to be real experiences...so where do the other ( good) reviews come from? My advice and GENUINE feedback - AVOID at all costs.

Nice chippy in a lovely village. Staff resonantly friendly but food lets it down. Chips seemed bit old and like scraps more than full thick and freshly cooked. Buttered sausage was a bit over done and dry for my liking so again possibly not freshly made.

We were in Bradwell in March 2024 and opted for fish & chip tea for one of our nights. The fish & chip shop is open all afternoon, although most of the times we walked past there were not many customers. This may have been due to the time of year though. The menu on the wall was quite extensive so should be possible for anyone to find a meal they like. We chose standard fish & chips and when I asked the girl behind the counter what the difference was in terms of size between the small & regular fish, I received a very abrupt reply describing how the size of the fish varies depending on the thickness, width, length etc. Once we had ordered and engaged her in conversation she did become friendlier. We were looking forward to our chippy tea by the time we exited the shop, and rushed back to the cottage we were staying in. Disappointingly however, the food was not to our expectations! The chips were luke warm and had obviously been out of the fryer for quite some time. The fish was bland and to my taste a little dry. The mushy peas also were only just warm, although they were quite tasty. All in all a poor choice. I would not recommend this fish and chip shop.

So far, what I cook myself just doesn't help me. Each meal, is a mistake I can't take back. Cold heart, when our car broke down by bradwell chippie. Old fart, came out the door in clothes so black. Ooh, he closed the door and cooked us some yummy food Showed me the fish and chips (the best) It's some lovely food, helped me to escape bradwell I'm in Nothing left to lose, filled me right down to my skeleton My mate won a prize at the fair again. We all tried, effervescent goldfish with no objection But each time, they remind me why I need that chef. Fish pies, how I thought by now chips would be better I realized, we were cooking chips all wrong before Ooh, I close the door on my armoury too. Show me there's still some fighting left. It's a lonely view, help me to escape Bradwell I'm in Nothing left to lose, let me wrap up my fish again.

Imagine my reaction when I turn up at bradwell fisheries and they’ve run out of fish! Well I can tell you my friends reaction “huh ha it looks like there’s no fishy dishies in this place” (for context he has a speech impediment which makes him talk like Michael mouse) The owner was looking downtrodden if not a little sad and gloomy. “What’s happened” I asked? “Huh ha what’s happened” said my friend. “I’ve been the victim of a prank” said the owner “they stole all of my fish, and all the jumbo sausages.” “Goof, not the schlongerdongers!” Said my friend. “We’re going to have to catch some more.” And before we knew it we were down at bradwell Brook, Ross in hands, trying to real in some fresh new catches. Thankfully back in my hay day (dates October 4th 1997 - November 7th 1999) they called me the salmon stapler of the hope valley. “Huh ha avast a salmon” cried my friend who was now adorned with mouse ears and wearing red dungarees. With a flick of the wrist and a spin of my wrist also I had reeled in a whopper and the people waiting in line at the fish and chip shop all gathered round as we devoured it fresh together as a group. Wasn’t served any chips though and I’m not prepared to go and grow my own potatoes. >:( All in all a nice meal tho.

Very nice takeaway fish and chips. Crisp batter and a generous sized piece of fish. Friendly, efficient people running the place.

Used the chip shop over the years and been very satisfied. However, that was not the case this evening. The chips had been over cooked and were very dark and dried up (maybe warmed up from earlier in the day), The Fish was fine to be fair. Won’t be risking it again certainly in the week. Probably better at weekends when busy.

We called In dinner time 20th April Not been since before covid. What a disappointment new to us proprietors ? We ordered fish chips Fish peas with scraps, separate chips. Chips were already cooked. Put fish in had to wait for fish (that’s ok) Wife asked if chips were fresh oh yes was told. The young lady who was searching had to be informed a couple of time how we wanted them. Just as taking the fish out. They put the chips back in. Wrapped them up put in bag went just down road to eat them. They were all put in individual containers. Not seasoned after numerous times requesting. The chips were 🥶 cold. & inedible Before we were regular customers during Carravan season. Not no more

Probably the worst fish and chips I have ever (nearly) eaten. It looked as though the fish had been flattened by a large weight before being cooked for the umpteenth time. What I got for £6 was mainly batter plus cardboard fish which varied from 2-3mm and which hadn't been skinned properly. The chips were barely passable. Needless to say almost all of it finished in the bin and I cooked myself a bacon sandwich.

Had to wait due to the fish being cooked to order - so not an issue! Good portion size and great customer service.

.. just visited this place .. walked into an empty shop except for a young lady engrossed in her phone. After trying to get her attention twice and being blatantly ignored twice I finally got served. Then had to wait over 20 minutes (after a couple of other customers who came in after me) "for the peas". Needless to say the next time I shall be driving that bit further to Tideswell or Hathersage ... this place doesn't deserve the custom.

The worst fish and chips we have ever had. The fish was some sort of white fish probably pollock but definitely not cod, the chips were like rubber.

We ordered 2 fish and chips from Bradwell Fisheries. Firstly we waited for over 20 mins whilst other people who came after us were served. I went in to remind them that we had been waiting, and it looked like our order had been forgotten. We finally got our fish and chips to take away before they closed. Back home we opened them up to find one small fish and three fried what looked like sausages but were filled with cheese. The chips were awful..If the shop had been open I would have taken them back straight away.

We last visited Bradwell fisheries on the 5th March 2022. The service was excellent with a lovely young lady who was very chatty and helpful. the fish we had was marvellous and just as good as the previous time (first) we had been Excellent crispy batter and sumptuous flaky cod. HOW DIFFERENT FROM TODAY'S VISIT. (30th April 2022) The staff had changed and were ignorant arrogant and bad mannered. Not even a please or thank you and extremely off hand. The fish was very small compared to the last time we visited and very dry. The chips were even worse and looked more like fried potato peelings - totally disgusting and also very expensive. On the positive side I did manage to persuade a large party (outside the shop) to cancel their order after they saw our order plus another party who left to look for somewhere else. We looked forward to our visit to Bradwell thinking we would enjoy our fish and chips AS WE HAD PREVIOUSLY Believe us we will never go to this shop again and advise anyone else to keep away too.

So they do the big reopening adverts and advertise the menu. So I go in a week later and ask for a kebab and they say they are not doing them yet . These people are a joke and have been since they took over...

My partner and I have had some nightmare fish and chip shops in our times on holiday , this was not one of them. Had fish chips and peas, clean fat being used shone through with tasty chips with no after taste, fish was white and flakey with no smell meaning nice and fresh and their peas were lovely. Lovely portion size couldn’t eat it all. Served by two lovely girls polite and friendly to a tea, may have to go back again before we leave. Only observation and this is just a preference for me , is batter could of been a little crisper, maybe bring the fat up a degree to achieve that. Thanks girls it was lovely.

The Bradwell fisheries was a two minute walk from our cottage. We had fish and chips from here on two nights of our weeks stay. The fish was lovely, no grease on the batter and the chips plentiful. Reasonably priced as well. Overall really good...

We are locals & try our best to support local shops & businesses. However the chippy in bradwell has time & time again let us down. In the past the food has been over cooked or raw, the people can be quite rude & tonight...

Just bought some very expensive Fish and chips from Bradwell fisheries. the service is terrible, the chips are soggy and the fish is cooked to death ! it used to be so good but sadly not now

Turned up on a Friday at 8:40 when it says they are open till 9, was refused service because they had a big order not happy. Shocking 👎🏻

This used to be our regular chip shop and always excellent. How things have deteriorated under new ownership. Firstly customer service is awful. The staff didn’t look like they wanted to be there. We were short changed by 30p ( shortchanged as in we didn’t get any !) And very expensive . Quicker than expected at getting our food as had heard very slow ... but we weren’t asked if we wanted salt and vinegar and when we asked if they had put it on we got a sorry. Hoping that it would still have been worth going we opened our fish and chips to soggy undercooked chips . And undercooked fish. ( hence why it was quicker than anticipated! ) The batter that was on the inside tasted undercooked . What batter hadn’t come off in the packaging I took off . my sons fish fell out of his batter! My daughters fish was cooked as she had the small so clearly the medium size needed longer. Gutted as this was our local and we have supported it for years. Had the new owners no previous experience we would perhaps try again as we like to support local businesses but I’ve been told they have had chip shops before . Award winning . Not sure if it’s the staff, or a bad day but we won’t be wasting our money on rubbish service and food.

We have tried several times, hoping that it would improve. The service is slow, the fish not the best and the chips soggy.

20 hungry individuals descended on the shop mid afternoon, cold, wet and hungry! They looked a bit shocked! However, the service was great, top Fish n chips etc the food even better. Would recommend this for top fodder. We will be back. Thank you!

Advertises as open until 9pm. We left the pub with locals at 8.30ish and arrived at 8.40 to find it closed and staff cleaning up. Other villagers arriving at same time and bemused. Told us it was under new ownership and not going well. Bizarre to pass up 5 customers on Friday evening prior to advertised closing time. Losing business, no idea

The fish was hugely overcooked and therefore dry and chewy.

I recently visited this fish and chip shop on its opening weekend. The food, staff and prices were faultless. The fish was fresh and the batter was not greasy/ stodgy. I would 100% recommend to anyone, even if not in the local town, and will definitely be returning myself!!

Drove through this lovely village stopped for fish and chips. Very busy and I’m not surprised the food was cooked fresh, the fish was beautiful. Would definitely recommend and will be returning. Staff we’re welcoming and the new owner was very friendly. He has other established chip shops on the east coast and obviously knows his stuff which shows as the quality of food spoke for itself.

Having visited various Fish ‘n’ Chip shops all over the U.K. At the top of my list is the Chippy in Bradda! I share the Large Cod and chips with my wife. Fish is really white and covered in a crispy batter, not grey fish and soggy, greasy chips as sold in many chip shops. As soon as I step over the threshold, I’m asked for my order. At least I know the fish hasn’t been left limp, under a bright bulb for half an hour. All the staff are most efficient and pleasant.

We had fish, chips and mushy peas, which were excellent to say the least! Highly recommended with large portions and piping hot.

Huge portions and plenty of choice. Fish is fried to order. I’d recommend one portion of chips for 2 people. Very obliging, they fry my fish without any batter on, which is my preference. Definitely worth a visit.

As I had a bit of business to attend to in this area I thought I’d try some chips for a change. I opted for steak & kidney pie, chips and mushy peas, served in a tray, devoured in my car! The chips were golden, crispy on the outside and fluffy within. Mushy peas just the right amount of sloppiness and the pie was good. The gentleman behind the counter greeted me warmly, as did the two ladies working there. I’m not a big chippy fan, but next time I fancy some I shall go back here. Oh and £3.65 for lunch. Bargain.

Called in for spot of evening lunch, during our week stay. Had fish and chips with mushy peas and curry sauce. The fish products are cooked to order so nice and hot, cod, haddock was choices. Was nice to taste, if a little bit on greasy side. But far cheaper that eating in local public houses or restaurants. Easy to get to. Opposite parking and co_op shop.

This is our regular 'chippie' and never fails: very good, freshly cooked fish , very generous portions , reasonable prices. Excellent service. Watch out that they are closed on Tuesdays (as well as Sundays).

As soon as you set foot in the door you are asked what would you like. When your order is ready it's quickly wrapped for you. You can't ask for freshly cooked food quicker than that! Beware, the haddock is enormous!

Las patatas fritas estaban bien, no excelente, pero caliente. El pescado era excelente y cocinados a la orden. No es el más barato pescado y patatas fritas, pero una buena relación calidad-precio y pescado muy sabroso.

Nice friendly staff and always a queue to chat to. The nighttime hub of Bradwell and as a take away it's great traditonal fare. Try the large cod and chips, although we always get one portion of chips between two which is more than enough (and we like our chips)

This is the only fish and chip shop in about a 10 mile radius from where i am staying.Firstly I get there and it is so basic it is beautiful, I get into the shop and immediately asked ' would you like a piece of fish cooked sir?' I had cod and chips, This mealWas simply beautiful. Batter was light, fish was large and a generous large at that. Really wanted some proper chips after a massive 10 mile walk and was recommended this place nearby. Service was quick and nothing was too much trouble. Wonderful sized portions and pretty much everything is cooked to order (a part from the usual sausages) The chips and everything that we had was just what we needed and everything was cooked well and pipping hot when we came to eat it.Defiantly good value for money here!

A typical good old fashioned chippy, been here on several occasions all the food tastes very good....Average prices, huge fish portions.This visit was just chips and a scallop, the scallop looks a tad overdone but it tasted great. Limited parking being a village.

Ok, it's a fish and chip shop, but it's a good one. We were having a couple of nights in Bradwell. If you are the on a Monday night you are going to struggle for your evening meal as the pubs, as great as they all are, take a break from meal service on that day. But never fear, get yourself to Bradwell Fisheries. All food is made fresh, rather than sitting for ages in the 'hot box' however it was done quickly and to perfection. The cod was huge, the batter crisp and not too much of it, and was absolutely delicious. And, while you are waiting, have a root through the big box of second hand books by the counter - all proceeds to local charities. Could fault the place. Delicious food, great price, and friendly folks. And you don't just have to go on the Monday - there's the rest of the week as well!

Burger was still red in middle.gravy was an awful grey/black,both thrown out! Chips were just about ok! Curry sauce turned out to be mushy peas,thrown out! Potato in Fish cake was crunchy, would have said raw but surely thats impossible! Would i go again? No chance!

We called on a busy evening on the strength of previous Tripadvisor reviews and I regret we were rather disappointed. The chips were limp and rather greasy and the fish just OK. Perhaps we called on an off night?

Being dairy intolerant, the chef checked the ingredients of the batter for me and made a separate batch for my fish. Portions are very large, and good value.

We called Monday while visiting our daughter in the area (Bradfield) and my wife, out of the blue fancied Chips so we asked locally and was told off this chippy. I ordered Chips twice to eat out, and when I brought the first forkful to my mouth I got this unpleasant smell from the chips and the taste was unpleasant also. I have never in all my 70 years come across this experience with a fish n chip shop. My word what the ech are you cooking them in.

Just back today from our wanders in the Peak District and as usual called in for the best fish and chips at Bradwell Fisheries. I mean what more can you ask for..... Beautiful freshly cooked Haddock( yes I'm from Sheffield) ....Loads of piled up chips all piping hot..... a view of the stunning Derbyshire hills....,,,a free form to sit on nearby at the side of one of the historic local Well- Dressings! Can't really ask for more can you?

Tried this chip shop for the first time today and was very impressed! Fish cooked to order - lovely white firm cod with crispy batter. Chips and peas were gorgeous! We will definitely be back!

I think the reviewer on 13 April must have just had bad luck. The fish & chip shop in Bradwell has always been great and in 4 and a half years here we've never been disappointed.

We called here on Saturday 12th April on our way visiting relatives. Went in and waited in the queue. I order two cod and was served first before everyone else within about 5 minutes. Thought it was a bit quick to be served so soon. When we got to eat our dinner about 5 mins later I was severely dissapointed, the fish was flat, not like cod should be and the batter was disgustingly soggy and oily, I think the oil needed changing as it tasted awful. Chips were either soggy and greasy or undercooked. The fish did not taste fresh at all and we didn't enjoy it one bit. What a waste of money. Will not be returning even if it was the last place to eat and will not be recommending to anyone. We are fortunate to live near an excellent chip shop in Buxton. Once you have had fish and chips from our local chippy it's certainly hard to find a match.

Visited Bradwell fisheries on numerous occasions . Great food , good price and large portions . Would seriously recommend the chicken curry its to die for . Staff are also very friendly . If its a proper chippy your after this is it !

We stayed in Bradwell 28/9/13 till 5/10/13 and visited Bradwell Fisheries three times over the week and I must say I was impressed the staff were really friendly and served the food with a smile,the fish chips and mushy peas were really tasty and well value for the money.We live in a seaside resort with award winning chippies and this chippy could compete with the best of them,this fish and chip shop is well worth a visit so I can not understand any negative revues especially from people of the village were we found a close knit community of friendly people.Well done Bradda chippy we will be back soon in the near future .

we live in bradwell and have to travel all the way to tideswell to get a decent fish and chips. i don't know what they use to cook their fish and chips in but it is horrible. small portions of chips. the only acception was carnival week when i think they used a different oil, tried some tonight hoping they had changed oil but no still the same sickly taste. Best not to order food in advance as they fry it (or get one alreadt been waiting) and wrap it as soon as tel order goes through so you could end up with a cold fish dripping in cold fat. Chips are occassionally dry and hard, so ask for freshly cooked chips when you arrive.

We are live in nearby Hathersage and enjoy ordering fish and chips from Bradwells. Friendly staff. Note to any visitors- shop not open on a Tuesday (There is the Happy Plaice - a fish and chip van - that visits Hathersage on Tuesdays, or shops in Tideswell). Would recommend.

Quite simply the best fish and chips in the Hope Valley.It's a chip shop, so dont expect it to be beautiful inside, it's not!The food is what makes it worth a visit.

Bradwell Fisheries is on the main road through Bradwell. We were served immediately (Sat evening at 8pm) and the fish cooked freshly for us. The person doing the frying must have assumed we were from Derbyshire as he put in two cods (Sheffielders always eat haddock)! There was also plaice on the menu which we will try another time.good value - £3.20 for the fish and £1.15 for the chips. We shared one portion of chips which was more than enough. There is a spacious park down the road with a convenient bench so eating the food.The fish was tasty - perhaps not as tasty as a seaside fish and chip shop - but very enjoyable. I found the telephone number on the internet which said it was open from 11am to 11pm. But when ringing to confirm i was told it would be open from 5 to 9pm.we will certainly go again and it made for a good meal after listening to the Tideswell Male voice choir singing in one of the underground caverns in Castelton.
