First of all it is an extremely clean pub / hotel and I agree dogs shouldn't be allowed every where. We have witnessed dogs sitting at tables in other pubs ..not in Bakewell. But we called in early doors last evening for a quick drink whilst waiting for the bus. Crikey talk about a frosty. . reception ...not from the young lady greeter but from the bar staff...we were told to sit in the back of the pub if we were only drinking..it was soulless . Not somewhere I would consider eating. Came back to Baslow for a lovely greeting.

Parked in the pub car park and went in for a drink on our way home. Who would have thought that they’d charge you £100 parking a couple of days later!

Good beer selection, apparently dog friendly area at the back of the pub which was full so allowed to stand at the bar. Was wanting to eat as menu looked ok but even though area with wooden floor that was empty, not allowed to sit there as not dog friendly area. Decided to go somewhere proper dog friendly to spend our money. Will definitely not return even if they change their rules. We have had a response that I'd like to respond to. We were told there was one table in the dog area, not 3, never told about underfloor heating or bowls of water available when we had a conversation at the bar area, so response not accurate of events.

Went to The Queens Arms before going to The Peacock. Went from dog friendly and accommodating staff to a pub next door that claims to be dog friendly. A member of staff mentioned how quiet it was even though Xmas markets were open. I had money to spend with The Peacock yet they could not accommodate us even though they had tables free. Even some existing customers offered for us to sit near to them. So I ended up spending my hard earned cash elsewhere. --- I've had a response as you all can see. What a really rude and inconsiderate response which does the owners no good from a reputational point of view.

Potential to be a great pub, ale was good but it wasn't busy and we were told to sit at the back of the pub in a colder room so as not to affect the dining tables. No atmosphere, perhaps music might help?

Staff were rude. Our 2yo daughter was enjoying watching the colours of the retro jukebox and tapped the machine a few times. The waitress then walked over to turn the machine off, as she was "going to break it".... Reminder that she's a 2yo girl and barely made a sound. Very cold and petty thing to do. Other pubs in the area are much more friendly

Most unwelcoming pub I’ve ever been in with my family; Constantly felt like you were under watch from staff. It’s a shame because it could be really nice. Asked a local taxi driver their opinion after our experience and they said they’ve not been in for years because of the manager & staff, stating they hate locals but unfortunately will thrive because it’s in a tourist location, very true as you don’t check reviews for a pit stop drink while passing through. There are much more inviting pubs nearby. Wouldn’t recommend a visit.

Dog friendly - or dog tolerant ! We bought drink and sat in the dog designated area -3 tables we chose a 2 seater not up take one of the other two 4 seaters next to the gents toilets. It was like Piccadilly Circus for men going to he loo- which is fine BUT when my husband went? there was no soap or handwash ( all empty ) the hand dryer is out of order ?? And no paper towels - empty! I went to the ladies there was no toilet rolls This is just not right and in the current climate ? You need to do so much better!

A day out in Bakewell, and I really fancied a steak ! After walking around town half a dozen times and perusing the menus, I settled on the Peacock, excellent choice ! My favourite rib eye steak was on the menu! It was probably the best steak and chips I've ever had, and I've had quite a few . Perfectly cooked to my liking, and the triple cooked chips were delightful, add a sumptuous pepper sauce, and it was a solid 10/10. The wine is a decent quality also. I'm glad I stumbled across the Peacock..... I will return !!! ♥️

Arrived at 7.30 for a pre-booked dinner for 7 people. No other customers so you would think they would be glad of our business. Sadly, that was not the case. On being presented with the menus by the middle aged barman we were told to hurry up with our choices because we had to order before 7.45 or we wouldn’t get any food. We duly ordered quickly and were then told that we couldn’t run a tab and had to pay as we went. We are all over 60 and don’t look like people who would do a runner so we tried again to persuade the barman to set up a tab. He refused again. At that point, given the attitude from the barman we all agreed to cancel the order which we had only put in one minute before and the barman said “ you can’t do that the chef’s already cooking it”. We told him that was obviously nonsense and all stood up to leave. At that point he suddenly changed his mind and said we could run a tab after all. Infuriating. One of our party, who was delayed due to a hospital appointment arrived at the pub just as the food was coming out and asked if he could add something on to the order. The barman said “no, the kitchen’s closed” and wouldn’t add anything to the order even though the chef was obviously still cooking. Just as a reminder, this was a Tuesday night and we were the ONLY customers there. If the service had been good we would have stayed after dinner and probably spent another £100+. Shocking level of customer service.

Apparently about 80 pubs a month close in England - how has this one remained open for so long? Stayed in Bakewell for a couple of nights and stopped here for dinner on first night. We were a party of 7, the place was empty - hardly a surprise given the complete disinterest and poor service we received from literally walking in the door. The ‘customer service’ here compared to the other establishments we visited was chalk and cheese. Don’t bother visiting here when you’ve so many other choices in Bakewell. If rudeness and disinterest is your cup of tea this is the place. If a warm friendly engaged welcome is what you’re after go elsewhere.

Made a reservation for a meal and on turning up all knowledge of the reservation was denied, why would we lie? The landlady then Ushered us and a few other drinkers out of the pub, "we're are closing" the time was 1845. There may have been a perfectly valid reason for not being able to honour the reservation, thing happen out of our control. The attitude of the management was, however, inexcusable. If you cannot be civil then don't run a pub.

We called in on the first day of our holiday. It was really busy but we managed to find a table outside. The young lad who greeted us in the pub was really friendly and gave us menus. I went to the bar to order and waited 5/10 mins as it was busy. Was served by a less than friendly older gentleman - I asked if I could order food for outside. He replied, "What do you want?" I ordered the first item, and he replied, "and"! This went on and on throughout the order. Once I had paid, he then told me food would be at least 40 mins. I queried this as I felt I should have been told before I paid! He didn't care. The food actually arrived within 20 25 minutes, which was fine. The food was ok. I would return for the food but a little put off by the manner of the guy that served us. Just for clarity, the guy that served me was a short gent, around 50/55 years old.

My partner and I visited this pub a couple of years ago. Never again. Absolutely horrendous treatment and service by staff and the landlord. Firstly we waited an age for our food, then we ordered deserts. The desert never came. And when I asked for it them I was told they had finished serving food. I requested a refund of the deserts which had cost almost £15! Along with my refund, I was shouted at, insulted, and my partner was asked if he wanted a fight 😂 Hilarious now but at the time it was unpleasant and intimidating. Central location is good. We sat outside with our dogs and enjoyed chatting with the young woman who brought out our food; she was really lovely and friendly. The food was a bit mediocre. Before we left, I went inside to use the loo, only to be confronted by a stony faced older woman who asked why I was there! I get that non-customers may try to use their facilities, but there are gentler ways of asking people what they're looking for, especially when there were only a few occupied tables in the pub and just ours outside! A bit of tact and customer service would garner a better review. It's really unpleasant to be treated like a chancer when you've just spent £50 there.

However the person behind the bar..landlord perhaps..seemed completely indifferent to our presence leaving me feeling pretty unwelcome. That's fine and completely up to him. We spent around £100 on in hour..we won't return and won't recommend it to those we know. We visit quite often. A smile costs nothing..where as being indifferent to new customers has cost you upwards of £500 a year just from this one unwelcomed customer.

It is sad to say the art of being a really grumpy publican is a lying one in our fine island. All too often pubs attempt to be all 'woke' by being friendly and welcoming, but not the Peacock. The barman, an older gentleman, managed to balance slow service with a ‘get out of my pub’ scowls in a way rarely seen since the 1950s. To my distress the beer was actually quite nice, but the doors being shut to the garden after went out there made it clear we weren’t at all welcome, and it was a nice passive-aggressive touch that really sealed the experience.

RUDE BAR STAFF/OWNER!!!!!! Which seems to be a theme now I've read the other reviews. Take note of the owners response to other 1 star complaints. They don't care if you enjoy your stay because there's a hundred more potential customers behind you. Choose another pub is my advice. Upon entering I was greated by a long queue of people standing one behind the other to one point at the bar, a bar that was otherwise empty. As everyone in the queue was holding a menu my friends and I assumed it was the queue to order food. I approached another portion of the afore mentioned empty of customers bar and waited to be served. A very rude woman from behind the bar informed me of the queue we'd just fought though to get in. I asked if this was not a bar and why only serve at one point. She told me it was so she knew who was next????? Strange practice with multiple staff working but not my business, so I went to join the queue. Unfortunately as mentioned before the queue was blocking the door so as I walked toward it the same women called out in a loud sarcastic voice "Bye"! Completely uncalled for behaviour in front of many other customers. This is not the treatment I expect from a local tourist attraction pub. We obviously took our money elsewhere where the whole bar was used and all the staff were busy serving and there was no queues to fight though. More importantly no rude staff!

We rocked up mid to late afternoon in the sun. All signs and indications were that food was in service and all you had to do to place an order for food or drink, was scan the qr code on each outside table. Brilliant - seemed very well geared up for Covid measures and contactless ordering etc.We confirmed with a young waitress (?) that we were okay to just grab a vacant table and that there was no booking system in place. Confirmed.Found a table, scanned the qr code. The website that the qr code bought up, just took us to a drinks menu - no sing of food. We thought it must be me being an idiot so tried again on the wife's phone. Same problem..... how bizarre. We asked a passing older waitress (?) - one of eastern European sounding tone who confirmed the food menu was online, "just scan on phone" we were told. By now a good 10 minutes had passed - all of the simple signs dotted around the place just said to use the app/qr phone system.I went it search of clarification, now desperate to get a drink and some food. Found a chap in a shirt who seemed to be clarifying an order with someone. I politely asked if they had ordered of a menu of some kind (as they seemed to be holding a laminate menu) as I couldn't find food on the website/app qr thing. The man in the shirt said: "we took food off there at 3, what do you want?""Food" I replied."Yeah, what food?""I don't know what the options are as I cannot view view a menu" I responded. With that, we were given the laminated menus and reminded the food menu had been closed at three. I asked the customer who had just completed his order and he said the he felt "told off" for wanting food to.At this point, we decided to leave and spend our hard-earned somewhere else. What a disappointment it was. Shirty attitudes. Mis-information. No clear signage regarding time limits of food service on the tables, the walls or the app/site. All In all it was a very gruff and couldnt-be-bothered reception. If that's the undertone of staff and management, I'm surprised you've so many good reviews. We certainly won't cross your threshold ever again. Bad service speaks volumes.

Have just spent a few days at The Peacock, despite what their website says, the bar is not open until 10.00pm, there is no “free limited parking” and we had to go to a nearby hotel to get breakfast. The rooms look lovely in the photos but they are really quite small, perfectly adequate for a couple of nights but upstairs in the pub on the way to our rooms absolutely stinks of cooking oil/chips. We didn’t turn the tv on however on reading the blurb in the room we were made aware that Sky tv was available. Maybe try and book one of the rooms in the yard to avoid the chip smell? We ate in the pub and can really only say the food is adequate, we ate out the remainder of our stay. Staff generally very helpful, you will need a smart phone and the ability to order and pay for your drinks, even when the pub outside tables were packed out the drinks didn’t take too long to arrive. Graham the Manager is quite a “character”. You will need to pay to park and there is car park is quite close by, not the one opposite the pub. Peacock is Covid safe, as a general rule the staff wore mask although Graham didn’t. The H hotel where we were sent to get breakfast is a lovely boutique hotel however there is a long wait having sat down and the cooked breakfast were served on cold plates and quite cold when they arrived. Not a great back up to The Peacock.

Managed to place the order for paninis, a child's meal and 3 drinks..£50! The branded 330ml drinks were £2.90 each! The order went through and said the food should arrive in 10 minutes. It arrived after 20 minutes with no apology. To say it looked unappetising was an understatement. The child's meal was supposed to be chicken goujons but was just a beaded chicken breast cut up. The "baby leaf salad" was mostly chopped lettuce And onion one came with a couple of pieces of cucumber, another with a couple of pieces of tomato, and one with neither.Overall very poor value and, in my opinion, exploiting the visitor trade.

Really like the new app they have as easier than having waiting staff. Then went back for dinner one night. Now the food was really nice, price was slightly on the high side but not excessively so. It took just over an hour for food to arrive which was too long, and 30 mins longer than the ETA I got on the text after I ordered. Also a meal didn't come out as they'd missed it off. When pointed out it did arrive relatively quick with an apology. Now we weren't in a rush so no harm. Another family we were with waited about 1 hour 20 although there was again an apology. I think they're doing their best with the change in how things are nowadays. Perhaps just need a bit more synergy between the app and how it's accepted in the kitchen etc. Keep trying!

I'd booked a table for 7.30pm approximately 2 months before and received a confirmation email. When we arrived early to ask if we could have a pre dinner drink it was obvious that they had no idea of our booking and we were told the kitchen closed at 7.30pm. We were told we could have a drink but would need to order food then. It was a very reduced menu to some extent understandable but a choice between fish and chips, sausage and mash or a sandwich is not my idea of an evening out after lock down. If they needed to bring in such severe restrictions on times and food why on earth hadn't they emailed me to let me know so that I could have arranged something else. We didn't stay to eat. Other people on tables around us had problems with both their food and drinks orders not being as they'd ordered.

We had two rooms which were clean and very nice but unfortunately it was down hill from there. We order drinks through the app after being rudely told we couldn’t order via staff. The drinks arrived 35 min later. We had a booking for 7pm for food. So after going somewhere else for drinks we returned. We walked in and got told off for entering the pub, when we said we had a booked table there was no apology just “oh find a seat somewhere round there and order from the table, there is a 45 min wait on food”. So we ordered drinks and waited 45 min for drinks and food in which time 5 other groups had complained and asked for a refund. We went and asked where our drinks were and we were told it’s in the cue but our order hadn’t been looked at yet and the food hadn’t been started and would be another 45 min. We were told we would be lucky if it came in that time (by the manager) so we got a refund and left. We had a great night (else where)! We stayed the night and the room was nice but we came down in the morning to check out and there was no hello no politeness in anyway just oh put them down somewhere. It is safe to say I will NOT be going there again I wasted nearly 2 hours there and wouldn’t want anyone else to do the same.

Booked a table inside over the phone for two bubble families (7 in total). When we got there the lady on the door was extremely rude and said we could not eat inside due to the Covid Police who had been in there yesterday- we were not allowed to be seated as a 7 - even though they had booked us in as a table of 7. So we just agreed to sit outside. The app was not working so after several attempts we ordered with a staff member. For the price of the food the quality was poor - a lot of the chips were inedible due to being over fried. My food was not something I ordered- long story short I got a refund and decided not to eat there. For desserts icecream on its own was £7.95! For all 7 of us to have icecream it would have been nearly £56! Toilet was blocked as well. Overall a very disappointing experience. We understand it is a difficult time for businesses but there is no need for rudeness. On a positive note my meal was refunded immediately without question.Just read the responses from the pub to previous negative feedback and seems that they cannot tolerate feedback which is not positive - looking forward to ours! Will prove our point about rudeness.

Wow. We were let down with a booking at another restaurant 2 hours before our meal and we managed to get tables at the Peacock. We were not disappointed. The ordering was simple (The whole village was packed) The staff were attentive, the food and drinks arrived quickly despite how busy they were. The food was beautiful. Thankyou so much for such a lovely dining experience. One on the staff Doug really went the extra mile bringing extra accompaniments for us too.

Visited on bank hol weekend. Had pre booked a table for dinner. Was rudely told there is over an hour’s wait for food because although you book a table you have to join a food queue and surely I realised it’s bank hol weekend??? - err yes I did but assumed that since you have to book online you might’ve realised you’d be quite busy.Bar full of people complaining how long they’ve waited and crying hungry children (and grown ups).Ridiculous system, incompetent and downright disgustingly rude staff.

I wish I'd read the reviews before booking - I'd called to make a booking and assumed we'd be inside but were just directed to find a table in the garden. I totally appreciate that it's a bank holiday weekend, and lovely weather, so has been extraordinarily busy - and I appreciate too, the problem of staff shortages post-covid. However, it seems very dishonest that we were not given any warning of delays before we sat down - and it's only after you've ordered and paid for drinks via the app that you discover, to your disappointment, that it's a 45 minute wait to get a drink alone! Just 3 pints is what we ordered and they took over 45 minutes to arrive. When we looked around, most tables were full of despondent looking people, who had also been duped into paying for drinks that then didn't materialise for up to an hour. Quite good, if you're trying to limit your alcohol intake, but not conducive to a convivial evening. If we had been told in advance of the waiting times, we could have made a judgement about whether to stay. What really rankled was the completely disinterested, borderline rude, response from the managers - nothing was their fault! However, it seemed unusual that a member of staff had time to make a racket slowly emptying a load of empty bottles into the bottle bin, when there were tables of hapless customers gasping for a drink. There are lots of lovely places in Bakewell - try The Manners down the road - we went there the day before and had great service - and it was cheaper.

Visited today and waited a shocking 55 mins for a half a lager shandy which never came... very politely mentioned the wait to 2 members of staff 4 times and not one apology or urgency to fetch the drink any time, just ignored. Ended up leaving without a drink or refund. Uncomfortable atmosphere as surrounding tables were all having issues too. Very strange place given how great the location is! Could’ve been great.

This was the first weekend The Peacock was back open fully and I am sure there was so much for the management to have to consider, get ready and organise yet we never felt like our requests were a massive hassle for the owners. We asked if we could leave our bikes somewhere and despite being busy the landlord personally showed us a spot to leave them, when we mentioned we were missing mugs in our room (only an oversight due to to the Covid deep clean) the landlady had sorted it out before we had even finished our drinks in the bar. Both of us had a really relaxing time and we found the management to be decent and genuine people who are really trying their best. We would stay again.

I am sure this place has potential to be good but the attitude of the management stinks. We walked in looking for a drink and the manager was relatively polite, we checked how long they were open for and the manager was honest and said depends on the people. When they leave we will shut early. However whilst we were sat there drinking (it was only 8.30!) lots of people got turned away. I am thinking, surely in today’s COVID struck world and with countless businesses going under especially in hospitality they would welcome people, however there is a higher power at play here called a government bail out (or tax payers money/my money) clearly don’t need the money or the custom as they are happy to be rude to all of their customers. You can see this from the previous comments from the manager . Surely being in hospitality means you need to be hospitable to guests in your establishment?! This establishment thinks that they are more important than the customer who they are here to serve!

Long, long wait for very expensive deep fried ready made frozen food. I don't mind paying for good food and service, but I object when it's not. I wasn't alone, 99% of the customers had that "I've been waiting an hour, it can't be much longer" face on them. 2 tables next to us abandoned ship, wish we had. At least the mrs had the time to walk across the scenic co op car park view to do the shopping while we waited. Our food, I ordered the Peacock burger, no description on the menu, but I assumed it would be a nice beefburger with nice trimmings. No, it was some kind of horrendous veggie burger in a bun, no extras whatsoever, served with a steak knife stabbed through it. I suspect the burger ingredients were damp fag ends, spit soaked sawdust and sadness. Small choice of beers served in plastic glasses. Classy. Avoid, there's other better pubs nearby.

We just wanted a quick drink before going out for dinner. We were greeted as soon as we went in and shown to a table. We sat for around 15 minutes, before I realised you had to order by app. I downloaded the menu and proceeded to try and place my order on the app, when the other half wanted to know what ales were on as it did advertise 'cask ales'. We managed to get the waitress's attention eventually and he asked what ales were on which she did know. However, when we asked what the description of each one was, such as strength, flavours, etc, she didn't know but went away and came back with the percentage of them. We then asked what flavours they were, such as hoppy, citrus, etc and she said she didn't know, but would go and find out as she's never been asked that before! After a few more minutes, he chose his ale and we said thank you and we would order on the app, to be told it wasn't working!! We are now nearly 30 minutes in and it's boiling hot in there! 46 minutes after arriving, we got a lager and a coke, paid up and left. The table next to us had ordered food on the app prior to us even sitting down and they were still waiting for their food after we left and had to ask staff about it twice!Absolute disaster. The place is lovely and dark, cosy with some great decor. Maybe we'll try again when things are back to normal.

When I asked for allergen menu, I was told there wasn’t one but she would check. Waited ages to get back to us and didn’t. We had to ask at bar. Table booked for 7.15pm. All online ordering. After eating our main, set about ordering desserts at 8.35. Wouldn’t work - told kitchen shut at 8.30 - why didn’t they say that when we booked it when we ordered? We not ‘make sure you order all courses now’ as we arrived at 7.15pm? Spoke to manager at end, as did another family with same complaint. He never apologised, didn’t seem bothered. Also, toilets smelt horrendous, like dog poo, and no hand towels for drying hands. All such a shame as the good we got to eat was lively, just a shame we left a bit hungry.

3rd place I visited in Bakewell, trying to find somewhere to eat just before 8pm on a Monday. Very unwelcoming staff, “do we have anywhere for them to eat?” As the customers are stood there, not very professional, nor does it help with making the customer feel valued. Originally ordered fish and chips and fish cakes, told fish cakes weren’t available which is fair enough. Had 2 fish and chips in the end, average meal. If you want to feel welcome as a tourist, not the place for you.

My boyfriend and I visited Bakewell today and having previously enjoyed food at The Peacock, I suggested we have lunch there. We were given a table and ordered our drinks and 2 paninis. After being seated around 15 minutes, I politely asked a waitress, 'Excuse me, we ordered our food around 15 minutes ago, I was just wondering how long our drinks would be?' In response, she bit my head off and snapped, 'We're busy. You'll just have to wait,' in a tone that drew attention from other diners in the room. Now I recognise that it was a busy afternoon, but I had only politely enquired how long our drinks would be, and not our food I hasten to add. I do not feel that this response was warranted and felt rather shown up in front of the other diners. This is very disappointing as the food was really nice and the pub had clearly put in safe covid measures. I must also add that the other staff members who served us were very polite and friendly.Good food with the experience tainted by a horrible example of customer service.

Our drinks came in a reasonable time ....followed the same with our food. We asked several times for more sauces...no problem. I got a pensioners special. A really decent potion of fish, chips, mushy peas and bread n butter with a superb chef’s tartar sauce. One of the best meals I’ve had for a long time! The fish and batter first class. My family equally happy...just small thing.....dispense with the paper under meals that their’s had ....unnecessary and bit soggy. Everything otherwise was perfect. Good staff and good cleaning ....liked the plastic screen between us and next table. Overall that meal was a highlight of my birthday and definitely will go again. Thank you to the staff and compliments to the chef.

We arrived at the pub and sat outside and told someone would come over. 15 minutes later we were told that the table we were sat on was not part of table service (no signage) so we moved to another table in the right area. Another 15 minutes went by and we gave up and just left. Didn’t look busy was just a steady day. And lost our custom to the wheatsheaf which was a delightful experience in comparison. Lovely looking pub, with a lovely beer garden, dogs not allowed inside, but very welcome in the beer garden. You probably won't get served though...But that's not really the point...Because, as soon as you go on TripAdvisor to share how awful, rude, and incompetent the staff are, you see how many others have shared this experience! It's amazing... You literally couldn't make it up!I have been so entertained by the previous reviews, and replies.. Best entertainment in years!I think anyone visiting the area, should just go in, don't get served, but at least you won't have to give any money away, and even better, by taking up a table waiting to be served, you'll be saving others from spending their hard earned cash on someone who clearly doesn't care

Enjoyed a fantastic lunch with my immediate family and dog sitting in the sunny beer garden on Monday 21st September. Did not mind having to queue for food and drinks (why would you mind if the food was so delicious). Had a lovely chat with who I presume were the owners behind the bar, whilst ordering food, who were extremely welcoming and very friendly. Explained we had been coming for many years on our yearly trip to the Peaks from Edinburgh and the food and staff have always been great. Also had a chat about the interesting responses to the reviews on trip advisor!!All in all a great lunch enjoyed by all 6 of us and well done to the owners and staff for their hard work during such a difficult time. Making sure that now we can get out and about again we can be assured a great time as always at “The Peacock”. See you next year!

We visited for Sunday lunch, which we couldn’t fault at all. The food was lovely. However, the service and COVID safety was lacking. We sat at a table which was less than a metre than the one next to us. There was a screen between us, but not between us and the table behind (which was as close). Staff members struggled to move between the tables or take orders at any distance. The tables felt closer than how they’d be pre-COVID elsewhere. One male member of staff behind the bar had his mask not over his nose, which completely defeats the object of wearing one.The dessert menu was on a blackboard nowhere near our table, and we had to ask the waiter to read it out for us as clearly we aren’t meant to get up from our table currently. The waiter was poorly trained and not knowledgeable about menu (he wasn’t aware of what beers were on offer or what puddings we could order...and when we ordered a pudding he then realised that one wasn’t available anymore. We felt very sorry for him, especially as the unavailable pudding was a Bakewell pudding!!).All customers sat at tables outside were having to come in to the bar to order. We heard a waiter explaining that this is the case as people were walking off without paying. Other pubs in the area had thought of ways to combat this (by taking payment before serving drinks) in order to adhere to COVID guidelines of table service only. There was a female staff member cleaning tables and serving food with no mask at all.Guests were waiting at the door for a long time with no acknowledgement. To top off the experience we were given the wrong change and then asked for the cash back. Overall the pub was disorganised and not equipped to deal with the new table service guidelines.

We stopped by during a day out in bakewell, to be greeted by an incredibly rude and arrogant female member of staff (older lady). After having asked for a table of two, we were met with the response; ‘no.’. She then tried to walk off without offering us a table outside (there were loads). After we were left to find our own table outside, the same lady then came to take our drinks. (‘What do you want’ was how we were asked for our order, which made us feel even less welcome than we’d already been made). The member of staff also had no idea of what lager or beer was, or what types of cider they sold. She appeared to be in a management role, so not knowing what they sold looked bad on the place. Such a lovely location has been let down by this one member of staff, would definitely return however (provided we never saw this rude staff member again)

We arrived, everything was great, we sat outside and our order was taken. We made payment and sat and waited for our drinks and food. Our drinks came and 45 minutes later, we asked where our food was, the lady who was lovely said she was will chase it up with the kitchen, however, a man then came to our table, no introduction and said “what did you order” when we told him he said “these things happen” what things? Seemslike our order hadn’t even made it to the kitchen - he blamed it on Covid? Anyway, we had been there for a good 50 minutes and were in a rush to leave, we decided to ask for a refund, I then went on to add that I would appreciate the 2 drinks refunded too for the waste of time, this is when the man looked at me in disgust and said you’ve drank your drinks so I’ll just refund the food, he then walked off and I turned to my wife and said “terrible service” he then turned around, started pointing his fingers at me (take into account I was sat down and he was stood up) so his fingers were in my face and very close to my face too. He then called me aggressive (I’m still sat down) so I said process the refund and we will be gone. He came back with the card machine, took my card and went inside, he said the machine doesn’t work outside, Sorry but I made payment outside - you shouldn’t take someone’s bank card and walk off. Anyway, I appreciate orders can go missing etc, but when the staff are literally waking past you for 45mins and don’t notice we still haven’t been served to then become rude, aggressive and point fingers (within my personal space) when asked why our order hasn’t come, I think is very poor customer service. An apology from who I can only assume was the landlord would have been good enough.

Ive reviewed this place before as its our go to. We have been many times. We just got back from one night stay in the annex where we usually stay. We have never had any issues before but last night was a bit disappointing. The bathroom needs cleaning properly. The tiles and the drip bar under the shower door was terrible. The bath panel had been broken and not repaired and the bottom of the bathroom door was broken so we couldn't close it. There was dust on the headboard too. Late last night as we were tucked up in bed, the fire alarms went off so we shuffled outside in pjs and coats. No staff around. We went to Reception and ended up in the bar. No explanation really so that was a bit unnerving. This is our go to and i really want them to get standards back up. I dont want to start trying to find alternative places to stay but if it doesn't improve then we may have to next time.

Lovely place. People pleasant enough. Ordered some food. Should have taken 20 mins tops. Over an hour later still not had food. It was just a steak sandwich, which it said came with onion chutney. Crispy piece of steak with a few fried onions. Cold chips and onion rings that were sitting in oil. A couple that came in about 45 mins after us received there food first, and that was 2 curry dishes. Was told the steak took longer than the curry????
