We have just returned from a 2 day night stay, and unfortunately we were quite disappointed, and we wouldn't recommend. Firstly when we booked, we specifically rang and asked if we could have the 1 four poster room. Were advised that was fine. We arrived to check in, the pub was chaos. Very, very busy, with no real attention. We were allocated our room, and told "sorry we can't give you the four poster room, because we have given it to someone else!!". Instead allocated Room 4, which essentially is the spare room above the garage! Really disappointed by this. We had an evening meal at the hotel on the Sunday. Service was poor, no wine list and cost was £107. We paid for this on the night. Breakfast very hit and miss.. 1st day was good, 2nd day numerous items missing. No juices, fruit or anything. On check out, we were told there was a bill of £107!! I have to prove through a receipt this was paid! Fortunately I had it. In summary this is a 5 bedroom pub with rooms. It's dated, lacks attention and rooms really differ. I don't believe we were treated very fairly, to be promised one thing, given another, nearly charged twice and poor service. We expected more but left really disappointed.

Beautiful Sunday lunch at the Scotsmans today. We booked online yesterday evening. We had just completed a lovely long walk and arrived in time for our booked time. A lovely friendly welcome by Sylvia and the team. We chose the 2 course Sunday lunch. We had oxtail doughnut with blue cheese sauce and crap éclair for starter. They were so tasty 😋 next we opted for the duo of beef. Beautiful beef served alongside a great selection of vegetables. The service was very good. We have enquired about their dine and stay offer,so hopefully we will be back again in the new year. Can highly recommend.

The food was nice and generally the service was good, apart from the bar manager that sat near us for his break and made the most disgusting noises from his throat/nose (grebbing up) throughout our whole meal, making us and other guests feel physically sick.

Parking is a problem. Drive past the pub up the hill and park. Staff were great. Explained the menu and specials and were very engaging. The choice of beers on tap is ideal and the wine choice, whilst not immense, is ideal for a pub with a well run kitchen. The menu in additions to roasts is what you would expect but with variations on the basics with fish and chips and also lamb madras burger. My wife ordered the pulled chicken Caesar salad that we had to wait for but the staff came out and explained that it had ‘run off the plate and ended up in the floor’. They were honest and cooked another meal and took the cost off the menu. Just being honest was sufficient. The manager was great as to our waitress. Great pub and we all had a relaxing evening with good food beer shirts and wine. Don visit. Thanks guys.

What a lovely little hidden gem this country pub really is, just off the main road in Hathersage. So glad we didn't miss it and we will definitely be back! If you are in the area call in, you won't be disappointed! Well done to all the staff...there is also a lovely outdoor seating area if you fancy a drink in the sun!

Food was okay but the visit was spoiled by a couple of men propping up the bar. They were using offensive language, criticising other customers and were not challenged by the bar staff - indeed, staff said offensive things as well. We didn’t feel welcome or comfortable and left as soon as we finished the food.

We stumbled across this little gem after a walk in the Peak District this morning. The food was incredible, the best Sunday lunch we’ve had in a long time. We hadn’t booked in advance but Sylvia couldn’t do enough for us and recommended the special, a lamb wellington (new to the menu) which we both had. They were all keen to hear what we thought of it and we were pleased to confirm a 10 out of 10 for us. The desserts were delicious and we left to carry on our journey feeling absolutely stuffed! Spot on 👍

Stayed for a 2 night break. Had Sunday dinner and chose to have breakfast twice. All food was freshly cooked to perfection and made with good quality ingredients. I only like sausage with a high meat content and the sausage on the breakfast certainly met with my expectations. From the outset the service was impeccable and nothing was too much trouble. Our room was clean and tidy with thick, quality curtains, egyptian cotton towels, a hairdryer, plenty of plug points, a well stocked hospitality tray and shampoo and shower gel miniatures in the bathroom. Would definitely recommend.

Customer service was a little bit off, we didn't feel particularly welcomed. Then a number of options on the menu were not available, including one of only 2 vegetarian mains. So the only vegetarian option left was a platter which for £15 consisted of some nice bread, houmous, olives, raw uncut radishes and some aubergine fritters. The carrots it apparently was supposed to come with was absent. No oil or butter even for the bread. The vegetarian starter we asked for never came and apparently was never ordered. My partner had the steak and ale pie which was fine but not exactly cheap. Not a terrible experience but I wouldn't bother if you're vegetarian or not looking to spend a fortune.

Whilst the personnel worked hard and were pleasant, we had one of the worst meals ever. The chips were the colour of dark brown shoe polish and had clearly been cooked in old oil. The two burgers we had were unevenly cooked and one contained lumps of salt. The ribeye steak was cooked to death and not medium, as requested. Our two steak and ale pies were dry, with hard crusts and clear signs that they had been sitting out in the open. Very disappointing experience for our whole family.

Too many pubs nowadays seem to think that it is acceptable to serve some stewed meat in a sauce in an oval dish with a piece of pre-formed puff pastry slapped on top and call it a "pie". Not so The Scotsmans Pack!As you can see from our photo the pies here are real pies with proper cuts of meat served in proper pastry top and bottom.Friendly, attentive service and an excellent selection of Marston's ales to boot.

The reviews looked good so we booked. We asked for indoors because the weather was changeable. On arrival we were shown to our table which was in a part of the pub where all the windows and doors were open. This was 7:30 in the evening. My knees and hands began to seize because of the gale we were sat in. We asked to if the doors could be closed but were told the rules said no. After two requests to move we were, surprisingly, moved to an area with no windows and doors open. An hour after ordering our food it arrived. We both had the "famous" steak and ale pie. Famous for what. On arrival it looked more like a chocolate brownie. The pastry top was hard and the base soggy. The steak had the texture of corned beef and the ale had totally evaporated. Thank god there was gravy. It was so dry. The pie must have lost count of the number of times it had been reheated in the oven. The front of house staff were very good and were very apologetic but I doubt the cook, not chef, will ever hear. Two stars. One for each front of house staff.

Came here in half term for a family meal. I didn’t enjoy the food but I think this was the choice I made rather than the quality. What I was disappointed with was the staff. I appreciate covid is a difficult time and the staff have a duty to enforce for the safety of customers and their staff, but I barely walked through the door before I was abruptly told to do track and trace. I was however really taken aback when I began choking during my meal (my food went down the wrong hole) I was coughing and choking , unable to get my breath and making myself sick. To not be rude to the other customers I quickly went outside whilst I coughed and spluttered. When I had composed myself I came back in , only to be told off for not wearing my mask when I’d left my table. Now granted the staff member may not have realised this, but when I pointed it out , it was not even acknowledged. I felt really told off and wanted to say something but didn’t want to cause a scene. The abrupt service really has put me off coming back , which is a shame as it’s a lovely pub and food was nice (just I made a poor choice)

Now I've eaten in some of the top restaurants around the country and the world and the simple but stunning choices of the food is simply fantastic. Be it the warm northern charm that greets you when you enter or the quality of service and food that goes it to making it the first choice if you want quality when travelling in The Peak District. I have nothing to gain from this review however far to many people are quick to cast judgement, but very few give praise and I only hope in this little way praise is given to a fantastic team and would hope many take me up on my recommendation as I feel it greatly due. Very friendly staff. Would Highly recommend. Very Covid secure too.

This was the first time I've visited since lockdown and thus great pub didn't disappoint. Even with the robust safety measures, the pub still felt friendly and warm. The food was as delicious as ever.

Please beware anyone booking on line, to phone and confirm the booking. Arrived on a busy Saturday night with a booking confirmed by email, only to find out there was no record of the booking. Ate outside instead, under patio heater that ran out of gas and was a little chilly!!!

Enjoyed our visit to the pub for a meal inside. They were strict and careful within the covid guidelines. This made us feel confident and relaxed on our visit so thank you to Mark. There was only two staff that evening and it became quite busy. Staff worked really hard but I do think they need more backup even if trade is inconsistent. It’s not fair on them or customers.

The pub is really cosy ,full of character and we got a fantastic welcome from staff . Special precautions were in place with staff wearing visors , markings on floor and hand sanitizers on the door and also operate a one way system . Car park was full when we arrived in the afternoon so parked close by .Meals were amazing and the steak and ale pie Was the best we had ever eaten .Our room was at the front with en-suite. included Coffee and tea making facilities ,and bottled water . A local Bakewell tart was a lovely touch . The pub is really popular and it was always busy but not crowded.Really enjoyed our stay and would highly recommend this pub and the area ( Would like to give a special mention to Robert on breakfast shift ,who Is always chatty and cheerful )

A delicious Sunday lunch sitting outside in the sunshine. Between us we had the roast chicken and the roast beef and both were great - hearty portions, the best Yorkshire puddings we've had in a long time and a lovely selection of vegetables to accompany beautifully cooked chicken & beef. The sticky toffee pudding and Bakewell tart were both fantastic too. A perfect end to our weekend adventure in the Peaks.

We came across this pub at the end of a day driving round the Peak district, having not booked anywhere to stay we were very pleased they had a spare room for the night.I had a lovely veggie sharing platter all to myself as couldn't convince boyfriend to forego his meat lust for a night. It was very very nice, bit too much for 1 but I perservered and nearly finished it.The room (1) was lovely with a four poster bed and great little en suite. The refreshments tray had a bakewell pud which was a lovely touch. The bar seems to be popular with locals and the bar staff were very friendly and helpful. Very pleased to see Appletons Rum on the shelf...my favourite rum. We had hoped to participate in the pub quiz but were knackered from day's exersions.Slept very well on very comfy bed, didn't hear much from bar downstairs.Breakfast in the morning was really superb, proper fluffy thick cut toast, best cooked veggie breakfast I've had in a long time...if not ever!!. AS you can tell, really enjoyed our stay...will be back!!

Luckily we had booked for the Saturday evening as people were being turned away. Covid precautions were being wellobserved including track and trace. We had the steak and ale pie and were not disappointed.... meat was plentiful and tender and the portion very generous. We could not resist the Bakewell pudding which was stunning and so nicely presented. Service from Mark and Will was genial and efficient...... if we were staying longer in Hathersage we would be returning! Super evening.... thank you!

Disappointed with their 'famous steak and ale pie' as it was dry and the meat was hard on two sides. The table serice was poor as well from the two staff that were on duty. I had to ask to order dessert. It's one of those eateries where they are all over you to order drinks and your main course after that you hardly see them.

Stayed on bank hol Sunday for one night and was just underwhelmed. The room was small, had a funny smell and the shower had no pressure whatsoever. Was woken at 5am by doors slamming downstairs which went on so didn't get back to sleep. On the Sunday we had a table booked for the evening, when we got there we were given menus. Twenty minutes later when someone came to take our order they told us they had ran out of roast dinners. We would have appreciated being told this when we were handed the menus as this took out half the menu. We ended up going elsewhere in the end as the menu was so limited. The lack of communication from staff was pretty poor. When it came to breakfast the coffee machine was broken and the toast was mouldy. Also overheard a telephone conversation at breakfast about someone being sent home with a high temperature which didn't sit well. It would have been preferable if the phone call could have been taken elsewhere and more discreetly. It made us feel uncomfortable. All in all it was not worth the money.

Stayed for two nights, originally booked for March but cancelled due to Covid. Car parking is limited and can be a little tricky during busy times. We had the corner room (number 4 if I remember correctly) and space was limited and the room quite basic. There was no bath and the shower wasn't very hot. Wifi signal was excellent and there was a good supply of tea and coffee and on our arrival they had left us a Bakewell Pudding to enjoy.Breakfast was an added cost of £10 and had to be ordered the night before. Unfortunately when we came down for breakfast certain items were not available or were missing from our cooked breakfast. The plus side was that Robert the housekeeper kept us entertained. A shout out to all members of staff we came across who were all very pleasant especially the guy who ran the quiz and even offered my wife and I a plate full of sandwiches.

We had Sunday dinner here and to be honest we waited a good 40 minutes which is okay if the food came and Was hot however it was warm. There was no carrots or mash as stated on the menu and the dinner was quite tasteless. We ate it as we were really hungry. Would not of complained if we hadn’t of paid £18 each for a beef dinner that was moderate.

We went for lunch with our dog and I was very impressed. We were seated in the back room which is just for people with dogs - still clean and tidy. The food was excellent, and due to the Eat Out to Help Out scheme it was even better value for money. I recommend.

We called in for a bite to eat on our arrival in Hathersage for a couple of nights. No table was available but luckily they had a no show and so we were seated. We chose the veggie parcel which was served with rocket and pine nuts. This was one of the most tasty veggie meals I have had in a long time, all the staff were so pleasant and we felt very safe with the Covid 19 precautions that were in place.

Stumbled across this pub by total accident after finishing a walk, as it’s a little off the beaten track. We were heading back to the main road where all the restaurants/bars are and I managed to convince my parents to pop into the Scotsman for a cheeky half! Thank god we did! As soon as we saw the food coming out of the kitchen we decided to stay for food too. We all had the fish, chips, mushy peas and homemade tartar sauce - it was amazing and at £10, a bargain! We will be back and have already recommended to the rest of the family.Lovely pub and really welcoming beer garden out of the front, simple flowers and plants gave the place a really nice feel rather than the feeling of just being sat in a car park.Highly recommend.

Ok,let me just say the team were very helpful and friendly..The food choice for a vegetarian isn’t particularly exciting..I had the vegetarian platter, the weirdest dish I have had in a long time..crumbled feta cheese, over cooked roast veg( nobody shares roast veg!!) and some cauliflower bhajis...which were tasteless and uncooked inside..the uncooked gram flour batter leaking out...the bread and dips was ok but all in all not worth £15.

A great place to stay! My wife and I stayed for 2 nights, our room was very clean, the room exceeded our expectation. The food at breakfast was more than we could finish! The evening meals were cooked to perfection, and all the staff were friendly. In particular, Robert the housekeeper and breakfast server was a star performer, keeping us amused and informed about the surroundings and the hotel itself. He really made our stay, most enjoyable.

Having had a pretty awful experience at the Whitworth terrace cafe I came here with my parents for lunch. We had toasted sandwiches which were well made, tasty and well presented with a lovely crunchy salad. The staff were friendly and attentive. I would recommend this cafe to anyone.

Lovely place. People pleasant enough. Ordered some food. Should have taken 20 mins tops. Over an hour later still not had food. It was just a steak sandwich, which it said came with onion chutney. Crispy piece of steak with a few fried onions. Cold chips and onion rings that were sitting in oil. A couple that came in about 45 mins after us received there food first, and that was 2 curry dishes. Was told the steak took longer than the curry????

First of all it is an extremely clean pub / hotel and I agree dogs shouldn't be allowed every where. We have witnessed dogs sitting at tables in other pubs ..not in Bakewell. But we called in early doors last evening for a quick drink whilst waiting for the bus. Crikey talk about a frosty. . reception ...not from the young lady greeter but from the bar staff...we were told to sit in the back of the pub if we were only drinking..it was soulless . Not somewhere I would consider eating. Came back to Baslow for a lovely greeting.

Ive reviewed this place before as its our go to. We have been many times. We just got back from one night stay in the annex where we usually stay. We have never had any issues before but last night was a bit disappointing. The bathroom needs cleaning properly. The tiles and the drip bar under the shower door was terrible. The bath panel had been broken and not repaired and the bottom of the bathroom door was broken so we couldn't close it. There was dust on the headboard too. Late last night as we were tucked up in bed, the fire alarms went off so we shuffled outside in pjs and coats. No staff around. We went to Reception and ended up in the bar. No explanation really so that was a bit unnerving. This is our go to and i really want them to get standards back up. I dont want to start trying to find alternative places to stay but if it doesn't improve then we may have to next time.
