The Plough at Normanton in Rushcliffe

This is our favourite restaurant/pub and after three years of regular visits and superb food every time, I thought it worth a well-earned high-praise review. Apart from the occasional evening event, (they hold special themed nights from time to time), it's generally lunches we go for. The quality of the food is consistently high and the service very friendly and professional. The menu is understandably quite small, given that everything is cooked to order but seems varied enough for most tastes. Despite the high standard of cooking and produce, the prices are very competitive indeed. It does get quite busy some days despite being a bit off the beaten track, so best to book if possible. There is a large secluded back garden with seating, (where they hold their events), and a good children's play area. The building itself is still an old unspoilt country pub and serves at least two different real ale. Can't fault the Plough at all really.

Thoroughly enjoyed our meal . Staff were delightful and all the food was very well cooked and very tasty. Would definitely return.

Last night my husband and I went to The Plough where we have dined for many years. With family for celebrations and friends. We were greeted by our hostess with a lovely smile and really could not do any more to make our evening a great experience. The food and service was very good and the attention to detail when it came to my lactose intolerance was very professional. We are very much looking forward to many more meals with family and friends in the future. Can't recommend this charming Pub any more. Thank you for the Happy Birthday Desert plate for my husband.

Went in tonight, 23 August 2024, as a walk in. The lady who served us could not have been more helpful. All the staff were lovely and accommodating. The food was great (they were missing something off the menu my wife wanted but even then tried to help!) and really well served. Cannot speak highly enough. 100% recommend. Just so friendly!

We really enjoyed everything about the Plough at Normanton, it was a really good well cooked Lunch and the desert was delicious, the staff were very friendly and the building was beautiful open to the back outside seating area. It was our first visit and hopefully not our last.

Not a good experience.met by an older lady with bad attitude. Asked for gluten free menu ,advised as I opted for a roast dinner ,all gluten free ,except for Yorkshire pudding. Meal arrived ,raw vegetables ,almost flew across table when trying to cut.Basically ,woman serving us was rude.when I politely asked a question ,told me she wasn't an Octopus.We were there to have a quiet family meal,left feeling like naughty school children. We had pre booked a table.

Our first visit to this deceptively large pub/restaurant, which also has a play area and outdoor seating. The service was excellent, better than average pub food served with a smile.

The Plough did our son and his wife proud on their wedding day last week. The team listened to their wishes and whether as a result of the pub's own work or the recommendations they made, the happy couple got exactly the relaxed garden party reception just as they wanted it. From a guest perspective, the garden was beautifully decorated and the pub itself was clean and welcoming, even down to the loos at the end of the night! Service throughout the day, whether in the garden or at the bar was excellent, well organised, unobtrusive and both professional and friendly. The food, while not your traditional wedding fayre was extremely tasty and of obvious quality - I think everyone wants the recipe for at least 3 of the sauces on offer! All in all a great afternoon and evening. We'll be back for lunch again soon!

On July 6th, we had the absolute pleasure of being cared for by Becky and her fantastic team for our Wedding Reception. From beginning to end, my new husband and I cannot praise Becky enough. Her commitment and passion for hosting events and curating the correct atmosphere was outstanding. In the year of planning, she made the entire experience personal. This included meetings frequently, helping us organize vendors and her impeccable taste in music helped us secure our acoustic guitarist Heather Flint, and her personal recommendation of The Frandells was an absolute hit with our guests! Despite the weather which tested us and forced our guests into arriving early, Becky and her team took everything in there stride. Throughout the last year, we’ve had tears of joy, excitement and laughter in the Plough at Normaton, and now every year for the rest of our lives, we get to relive the immense experience that Becky provided which made our Wedding Day so special. Dwayne the head chef helped bring to life our “Amsterdam fries” and KFC chicken idea with so many sauces which ourselves and our guests were in awe of. Our only regret, is we couldn’t eat more! Thank you Becky and the Team. We could not have done it without you (Maybe without the Penalty's though?😂) Mr and Mrs Howard x

We had high hopes for our first visit to The Plough for an early supper on a Saturday evening. A nice atmosphere inside, not overly busy and pleasant decor. Welcomed by friendly staff and shown to our table. We waited an overly long time for menus and even longer for our drinks to arrive. Food was a long time coming. We shared bread and confit garlic hummus, no garlic flavour and no real depth of flavour to the hummus but tasty, warm, fresh bread. The halloumi burger was lacking the promised pomegranate but had a generous serving of halloumi. Sadly the heritage tomato tart was awful. A hard, dark brown very greasy disc which was supposedly pastry, topped with pesto and 3 slices of tomato and 3 thick discs of raw courgette which were fairly inedible. It was completely unappetising. I pointed out the issues and was offered an alternative. When the bill arrived the tart had been taken off which was a welcome gesture. I was told on leaving, that this was not up to their usual standard, but oddly someone else on Trip Advisor reviews had made the very same comments about the "Tomato Tart"in recent weeks! Unfortunately we don't plan to return.

The Sea Bream was off but they offered Sea Bass as a replacement, it was perfectly cooked with plenty of mussels and a lovely sauce. The veg was well cooked and the Patas Bravas a joy. This was a perfect lunch in the sunshine outside. Staff attenttive and pleasant.

Had a fabulous meal here, with very attentive service. Food is high quality, unique and delicious. Friendly and personable bar and restaurant staff. Only spoiled by an insulting customer who very vocally spoke to staff with contempt, clearly having nothing better to do and who hopefully will not return!

Just been to the plough for the first time just clocked in before the time out for food at 2-30 even though the web site says 11pm. Nice lady welcomed us and our main courses where ok But deserts banana parfait straight out the freezer like rock !

Just won the best pub in Nottinghamshire for very good reason. Top pub ran by brilliant people, with Becky there it was always going to win and sure it will go on to win many more awards. We are always very well looked after and they are just brilliant with families.

Yet again 11 of the family had an amazing meal here Saturday for Mothering Sunday, couldn’t pick fault with anything…oh that Focaccia bread ticks all the boxes. Thank you so much.

We visited The Plough today - Sunday 3 March - for my mums 90th birthday. There were 9 of us and we all had the most excellent Sunday roasts - beef, pork belly and chicken - we all said it was the most excellent lunch we’ve had in a very long time. We also had a 2 year old with us and he had a children’s sausage and mash - such a refreshing change as he had proper sausages, some lovely mash and gravy - he loved it. An amazing meal and we will definitely be back - thank you you made mums birthday very memorable

I was very disappointed with the Sunday Lunch. I ordered pork belly which was barely cooked and soggy, no sign of any crackling. I asked for Apple Sauce which they didnt have. The vegetables were raw and impossible to cut. I asked for more and again still raw. On the third attempt, they were greasy and shrivelled. No apology. I was going to book for an evening dinner for 6 but after this experience I decided against it.

Food good but expensive. Service started of slow BUT got even slower even though there were only 3 other tables occupied! We waited 35 minutes after ordering desserts, mentioned this to the waitress who returned to say they would be 5 minutes more - 10 minutes later 3 of the 4 desserts appeared with no apologies, the 4th took 5 minutes more!!! Obviously we left no tip🥴

NYE at the plough was amazing, thanks to Becky and all the front of house team and to the chefs who provide fantastic food. Live music just made it even better. Great night and can’t wait to be back. Trevor Cummings

Obviously a very busy pub, disappointing as our choice of wine was not available and we were not offered an alternative at the same price. The fish option had sold out, could understand that if it was an evening booking, but we had a table reserved for 2pm. Had paid a deposit, no surprise to see we were given the bill for full amount. The food we had was good and the table staff professional, the lady who was front of house was under a lot of pressure but did not come over as being too concerned if we were happy or not. Would not go back

We booked last minute for Sunday lunch. We were the first to arrive and were greeted warmly, we saw the place filled very quickly. We chose the Sunday roast but there was a god selection of other dishes. Our meals arrived promptly, the food was delicious, plentiful and nicely presented. We still had a little room for dessert which was served with the same quality. I was particularly impressed with the wine selection which was not extensive but very thoughtful chosen and clearly explained. Finally the staff were excellent, the service was friendly and efficient. We could not fault the Plough and will certainly be coming back

My family and I went for lunch last Friday. It was our first visit. We all chose the set menu of three courses, duck liver pate with chutney, braised beef with extra vegetables, and desserts to finish. And it was all delicious. The braised beef was so tender it fell apart, and the roasted carrots and parsnips were exceptionally good. I've recently been to several restaurants and the food has tasted so bland. This food tasted as it should, a delight to the palate. And on top of this were the lovely staff, Becky and her colleague. They were so helpful, giving out a lovely warmth and friendliness. Can't wait to go again!

Wow what brilliant service we had here!!!! From the moment we walked in the door the staff couldn’t do enough, vert attentive and helpful, the set menu was good value I had the flat iron steak, it was lovely but could have done with being a little warmer, portion sizes were spot on, pudding was so tasty, I would definitely recommend and will be returning

I don't normally write reviews but we feel families should be aware that there is no where to change your baby. We were told normally they normally offer people to use the function room tables but as it was in use, they said we can use the toilet floor or on the shelf behind the toilet!! Or a table in the bar as there was "only one other couple in there." We felt very uncomfortable doing any of those things so unfortunately couldn't change our baby until we got home. The food was lovely but we had to cut the meal short.

We were looking for somewhere nice to go for a non-round number wedding anniversary, and we had had The Plough recommended to us. As my wife is vegetarian, the fact they had a vegan menu available meant this was an easy choice (I can always find something I'll like, but many vegetarian offerings are limited, or contain ingredients that she doesn't like). Service was good - no issues with attentiveness, or the speed of the food. Food was excellent, very tasty, portions neither too big nor too small - we both had starters and mains, and shared a cheese board for dessert, and that was perfect. With a bottle of wine and a couple of soft drinks, the total was less than 3 figures, which was very good for the quality of the food.

Came for lunch and was told to sit outside with the waitress saying she’ll come to us ‘if she had time’. After getting drinks from the bar, we asked for a menu with the waitress again saying she would bring them when she was ready. After waiting 20 minutes, we asked another server if we could see a menu to look at the food only to be told the kitchen was busy so we had to wait 45 minutes (for context, there were only about 15 tables maximum, half of whom had already had their food served and the status of the place online was ‘less busy than usual’). It would have been nice to have been told the wait time when we had arrived rather than sitting outside and waiting to no avail.

I visited with a friend during the “eat out to help out”. We booked a table, had a really enjoyable meal, followed by a glass of wine sitting by the river. Well worth a visit, I know will return very soon.

Came here with a friend for lunch & the pub was pretty packed out which is always a good sign for a Monday. We did find a table & perused then menu. You can have a bar snack meal or a full meal & they also give you the option of having a starter as a main course which is a great idea. There was certainly a lot of choice & I opted for a prawn sandwich on granary bread which was stuffed full of prawns with a lovely Marie Rose sauce & some delicious chips. My friend had the chicken liver pate starter as a main & that looked delicious too. It’s a dog friendly pub so will bear that in mind as looking to get a dog soon! Will come here again for sure.

We were recommended here by a friend. A very good friend as it happens because we had a delicious meal and have returned numerous times. They also do a very good Sunday lunch. Besides good food, the staff are friendly and helpful. I have a dairy allergy and my sister a glutton allergy. Not a problem here because the menu clearly states dairy free, nut free and glutton free meals. The Plough has a lovely atmosphere and an absolutely gorgeous dog.

Enjoyed a great afternoon of televised rugby followed by a tasty steak cooked to perfection and a stunning desert listed on the menu as "Biscoff Cheesecake" ...........fantastic presentation, simply delicious! If you like your sweets then don't miss this one, it's extra special.

We booked a table for seven family members for 1pm on Boxing Day. It was very busy as they were hosting an annual village event in the bar but it did not encroach on the restaurant service at all.The service was exceptional, the staff so friendly and helpful, the food was served promptly, hot... and was delicious..It compared to an evening visit for two on spec in October which was equally good.Its a bit of a drive for us living in Long Eaton but when I compare it to our dreadful experience at Risley Park, its sister pub, two weeks previously I will definately be back.Thank yo and give yourselves a big pat on the back!!

Saturday 28th December 2019. We again had our family Christmas celebrations in the function room at The Plough. (for the 4th year) Again we were a party of 18, including children. The service was excellent, as was the service! We are already planning the Family Christmas 2020!

Can’t fault it here. Always amazing food and a welcoming atmosphere. Garden is amazing for the summer.

Visited the Plough yesterday with friends for lunch, very busy but was served very quickly the food was very good! Not been since February this year but would go back again .

The service here has been incredible, friendly and always accommodating. The best steak I’ve had in the UK. I’ve dropped in twice now and both times we have been seated and accommodated. Can’t wait to try the Sunday Roast.

We have visited The Plough a few times over the years, and if anything it has got better! The pub itself is warm and friendly, the staff welcoming and attentive. As for the food - simply great, freshly cooked, and delicious, plus great value.

Visited The Plough with friends for dinner on a Saturday night. We were seated quickly in the dining room and after ordering drinks we were shown the great menu. Plenty of choice with pub classics to the chef's specials, which offers some great dishes if you want to try something new and different. Friendly staff and the good food made for a great night.

I have been trying to find a nice pub with good value food and excellent service for quite a while around here. This one 'ticked all the boxes'. Food was very tasty without being over-produced and fussy. The whole team of staff were friendly and courteous. A very nice experience.

A village type pub which has a rural style restaurant which gives it a relaxed country atmosphere. No loud music playing so we could chat at ease.

Stopped here on the off chance to break our journey and grab some lunch. Friendly greeting from the staff and lovely food. I had the homemade lasagne and, had to comment to the waitress that I am often disappointed when I choose this from a menu....but not this time! It tasted homemade and was lovely and cheesy! My other half had the Sausage sandwich with stilton and mango chutney made with proper bread and great chips. He really enjoyed it.

We arrived before the pub opened on sunday but were invited to sit in the garden until opening time. The landlady was so lovely, making room for 4 of us to have a meal in an obviously very busy pub. The food was amazing, vegetarian options superb, friendly staff, good price. Only wished we lived closer as we are from kent as would definitely make this a regular place to eat.

Excellent, pretty much perfect for such a busy place. It was packed when we arrived and still all food/drinks arrived promptly and absolutely lovely, if I had to gripe I would say my beef lasagne and garlic bread could've been taken out a couple of minutes earlier (but I'm nit picking) don't try and turn up on a Sunday cos you won't get seated, make sure to book. Fantastic all round

Superb meal with superb service. Faultless. Pre booking advised. Car parking limited but don't let that put you off.

Really nice pub, came for a meal today during the heatwave. Lovely garden and atmosphere, the kids playground really helped keep my cousins occupied. Great customer service, kind manager and would thoroughly recommend

Went for dinner at this cosy pub with a lovely big garden on a hot summers evening. We were able to call on the day and reserve a table. There is a playground for the kids in the garden which is great if you want to enjoy a glass of wine in peace but still keep an eye on your kids.
