Came in after my partners skydiving jump,brilliant place,brilliant food,customer service was spot on

We love it here! It's only our second time but we have booked again for my birthday meal. My dad said the fish pie is the best. He had the fish & chips last time, and he said the same. It's definitely worth trying both! The Sunday roast is wonderful, very tasty gravy.

Phone to check if they catered for dairy free /vegan and was told yes. When we arrived the waiter did not have any idea so I had to ask her to find out for us ,she said she would get the book ,after waiting she came back no book and only one item . My self and a friend ordered a smash burger which was only warm ,not hot, We also had nibbles to start ,sourdough with oil and butter .no knifes to spread butter? Room was cold a blow heater on and a small electric fire that should have been in your house lounge.landlord then brought a draft excluder to put against a door . Will not be returning.

It's.a real shame the pub itself is good so is the food apart from a very watery soup on the 2 courses for 14.50 menu ( obviously to make more money so it goes much further ) only thing that lets it down is the service .They are employing very young inexperienced staff and the few times we have eaten there have had issues some of them have no personality at all and should not be in that type of work environment . One of the managers I have spoken to was quite rude also on one occasion . Edit I have replied to your message below last week and don't appear to have received a reply to that as of yet ?

We ate from the bar menu that was not very inspiring. We came a year ago and the food and service was very good. This time my pork steak was undercooked/ raw and the bar staff were falling out with themselves and one was in tears. I think they had over booked and had taken on too many food orders and they simply couldn't cope. What they served was not good!

Family get together to celebrate a Birthday. Early evening visit . All of us enjoyed our meals . Good sized portions. Will definitely be going again. 👏

Good food, friendly staff, nice atmosphere

Extremely disappointed as had been looking forward to it so much. However it was freezing inside, small food portions and very expensive for what it was. A total rip off really and won’t be returning.

Went 20th December for lunch. Great food & service as always. We shared the chicken & ham terrine starter, mains were the Turkey dinner & the Game pie. Then shared the Christmas pudding. Enjoyed everything. Pub was beautifully decorated. Will be back. P. S. If you decide to sell the pickled turnip which is served with the starter, we would definitely buy a couple of jars!

It takes steely professionalism and (I hate the word! ) passion to maintain these standards seeming effortlessly. No fuss or self-celebration - just flawlessly executed new takes on bistro favourites like pork belly, game pie and fishcakes. Lovely venue .. plentiful parking. Friendly staff. Quaint decor. Lovely food but very limited offerings for meat free. Possibly the best soup I have tasted!!

All ok BUT why oh why when having a roast beef Sunday lunch do I get what is in effect a rump steak when a joint of beef should be sliced or carved with thin slices of meat. Staff good and attentive. Very very hot horseradish sauce. Please carve the meat. If I wanted a steak I would order one.

Went for a Sunday roast at the Reccomendation of a friend, they may seem a bit pricy, but you get a good meal. They don't skimp on portions like some places, with a nice thick slab of meat, and well seasoned trimmings. I will say the roast potatoes were a bit big and under done though, no crunch at all to them. Just half a potato on your plate. Good variety of non alcohol drinks and mocktails for those who are driving, however they did take a while to come out. Desserts were expensive and didn't seem as worth the cost as other eateries in the area. Service was lovely, friendly staff all round, accommodating when we had an issue.

We've just had our staff Christmas meal at The Unicorn's Head. 13 of us enjoyed a three course meal. Food tasty, the service from the girls was lovely. Thank you.

Just been to the unicorn for dinner , absolutely brilliant , welcoming staff , warm and friendly atmosphere I had the turkey which was delicious, lovely presentation, same with hubby, who said the pork belly was also lovely , as was deserts . What a gem this place is , and just a short walk from us . Highly recommend you try

I stopped off for coffee at the Unicorn’s head Langar. What a lovely pub but let down by appalling staff. Off hand, uncommunicative and couldn’t have tried harder to put me off staying! What a shame

Had a lovely meal here for a friends birthday. All lovely homemade food. The only thing was that the pie lacked vegetables and couldn't pay by cash, which is ridiculous as it's legal tender. We will return regardless. it just would have been nice to be told that when booking as we bought cash, but luckily bought a card too !

Just perfect. The food was of restaurant standard. The service was top class. Make sure you book well in advance as this place is going to become very popular.

Food was good however the customer service let the evening down a lot. The food order was taken wrong, understandable. We were charged for the more expensive one, unsure of the difference, I asked about this that was met with the manager being rude and giving us the 50p difference. Not a singular apology, especially with one of our meals arriving when the others were about finished. Ordering deserts was met with more rudeness from her and the whole interactions tainted our evening. After a few times of visiting here we won’t be back as would feel uncomfortable with her service again.

Our first time back here under the new regime. We were pleased to see that it was busy (though not full) on a Tuesday night. Very good service. We enjoyed the food, and I liked the beer, of whichthere is a good selection (which is well kept)

Popped in for a mid week lunch. We both had the venison, mushroom & cranberry pie with mash, greens & gravy. It was amazing. The pie was full of succulent tender meat & the pastry was lovely & crisp. Probably the best pie we have ever eaten. Creamy mash, plentiful gravy - it was all perfect.

A very mixed experience. My partner and I went to the Unicorn's Head on Saturday evening. The good: - My food (Smoke Ham & Cheddar croquettes, beetroot & dill yogurt, and the pie of the day (braised beef, onion)) were delicious. - The staff are friendly and the venue is lovely. The bad: - My partners had the curried sweet potato soup, which she found pretty bland (as did I when I trued it). Could be personal taste, but that was both our opinions on it. - For main, she had the sirloin steak. The steak itself was 1/3rd gristle, which we didn't realise until after the check-back. That can't be helped sometimes, as you can't tell until you cut into it. The chips were also soggy, and did not seem fresh. - We did raise the steak with the staff afterwards. About 15 minutes later, a manager came over to ask us about it. As a result, 10% of the cost of the steak (£2.85) was knocked off our bill. Considering 1/3rd of the steak was inedible and the quality of the chips, this was not acceptable but we didn't want to cause a fuss. Perhaps we should have asked for more off considering, but in most places of this quality I would have expected a better response by default. Considering that the Unicorns Head has just won an award for food, we were overall disappointed with our experience. Whilst I enjoyed my food, it isn't much fun when my partners was so poor.

Amazing Sunday lunch! We often come here for lunch on a Mondays. We decided to try the Sunday lunch and it was delicious. We were booked in for 12:15 and the car park was busy bath sides ( plenty of car park space ) . We had the roast beef and Yorkshire puddings ,the gravy was to die for 🤩. I had the Rhubarb cheesecake fool and my husband had the cheese board. Both were tasty. Highly recommend this place can’t fault anything at all. We shall be back!

Gorgeous setting and beautifully decorated throughout. We had our 2 pooches with us so we were in the bar area. Food was delicious, sausage rolls are a must, either as a starter or just take one home! Very friendly & attentive staff, couldn’t have asked for more. We’ll definitely be returning.

Went for Sunday lunch, food and service were excellent. You won't leave here hungry, i ordered the pork which arrived piping hot with a big thick slice. My husband had the beef, said it was the most tender beef he has had in a long time. The lunch was very tasty and we didn't even have room for a desert. Well done to The Unicorn.

We were recommended to this pub/restaurant by friends - they were certainly right in their praise. A lovely looking, traditional Nottinghamshire building from the outside, leads into two spacious dining rooms and a separate bar. Everything was spotless and we saw that tables were cleared and cleaned quickly, when empty. The waiting staff were pleasant, professional and kept checking back that everything was fine. The dinner menu was sensibly short but with plenty of choice across all three courses. We shared a starter and pudding and chose the sirloin steak and fish as our main courses. Both were cooked as ordered and of good quality. When we were dining (on a Saturday evening) freshly made pizzas were also on offer from a ‘pop up’ van. Prices of both the food and drinks were very reasonable and it was no surprise that most tables were taken. Another lovely dining pub in the Vale!

Really love this pub. Lovely interior and very friendly welcome. Food is great and there is a fantastic range of drinks including very good choice of low or no alcohol beers. You can see that the chef is making a big effort and that certainly shines through. Gonna be back for breakfast for sure following what was a lovely lunch time outing.

Country pub and worth going out of your way to visit! Food selection was very good and words dont do the taste justice! Highly recommended, advised to book your table it gets busy and for good reason- Great Food!

Pie was delicious Chicken, chorizo,and red pepper. Pastry melt in the mouth, nicely presented. Staff very polite and professional. So encouraging to be in a busy buzzing atmosphere considering it was a Monday. Definitely recommend, will return.

Food was very good and prices reasonable. The waitresses were very efficient and friendly. I do object to the percentage they put extra on the bill if you are willing to.pay it It's like putting pressure on the customer when they have just come in for a meal. Everywhere is doing it now and if we paid this extra everywhere we go we would not be able to go out like we do now we are retired. The Staff should be paid a good wage and the establishment should make enough money off food and drink without customers having to donate their hard earned money to boost there takings. If customers want to give tips it should be their choice to do so without being pressured. This is just my opinion but I do feel strongly that it should be up to the customer their decision not being asked to do so.

First time of going since it changed hands and it was well worth it. The service was great; friendly staff and quick service with the drinks and food ordering. The food was delicious!! There was a really good selection of dishes to choose from which made it difficult to decide. Loved the idea of the Friday chippy tea menu, we choose from the main menu but will be back to try it. BBQ pulled pork on a Hash Brown, Salt Baked Hake on creamed peas with Veggies and to finish Cherry Bakewell Tart with Pistachios ice cream. Thank you, great to have found a local pub with delicious food!

Our visit didn't start off well, they had just opened for service so I stood at the bar waiting to be served no one acknowledge I was there , 2 ladies were buzzing around, so I was patient, 2 lads came in and one of the ladies spoke to them immediately and told a young man to serve at the bar, he came to the bar, ignored me and asked the 2 lads behind me what I wanted! At that point I asked if I were invisible..... He didn't apologise but the 2 lads behind me did... How rude are these members of staff! I asked for a lager and prosecco, took these outside and discovered my prosecco was white wine, so rejoined a now huge queue, again no apology from this bar person. It was time for our meal, mediocre I would call starters..... Main courses, 2 children's sunday lunch ckn, and one ckn chips, none of the kids ate theirs they said ckn tasted funny. One person had lamb, but said it could have been any meat, didn't have the taste of lamb. My salad was OK and can't remember the others, The bill included gratutities... I just paid and left we won't be going there again, by the way I think the lady that ignored me was in charge, shame on her, sweetness when I went to pay the bill !!

Three of us went for a birthday meal. All three of us throughly enjoyed the food, friendly service and atmosphere. Definitely recommend.

Returned to the Unicorn for fathers day lunch. This was the best sunday roast Ive ever eaten in a restaurant. Fantastic , pink roast beef, crispy roast potatoes and delicaely cooked veg . Fantastic

First visit here. We will definitely be back. We had fish and chips and our friends had the pie and the sea bream. We all agreed that the food was delicious.

We visited for Sunday lunch with some visiting friends.This was for the first time ,after reading about The Unicorns Head online. The food was very good quality,with plenty of choices for all 3 courses and we were pleased to find that it was also piping hot,which is not always the case elsewhere. Our waitress was polite and helpful,and we look forward to returning again in the future.

My son and daughter in law booked this for our get together, what an excellent choice ,couldn’t fault it ,the decor,the staff and off course the food were first rate ,we’re from Yorkshire but will definitely go there again when we visit

Went for Sunday lunch at this lovely historic pub. Welcome on entering and staff very good throughout our visit. Lunch menu had a good variety of dishes on offer albeit limited vegetarian choices. Lots of alcoholic and non-alcoholic drinks to choose from. The food was delicious, very well cooked and good portion sizes.

What a lovely place. We had a great time. Staff were lovely polite and attentive. Atmosphere was great music outside with a DJ but not overly loud just a nice volume. Sun was shining it was beautiful. The food was fabulous (sorry no pics was to bust eating it lol) super nice place to visit. I would definitely go again. 💕

Just came for drinks and live locally ordered the Sauvignon blanc it was vile!! It tasted something like on draft at wetherspoons!! Which I don't do!! and at £9.95 not worth it at all! Had to refuse it. They did offer me the chardonnay not great but better than the SB they need to review their wine!

Been up there again today for a chilled Sunday and it didn't disappoint. Chilled tunes on the terrace and again the best sunday lunch anywhere I have been to date. Give it a try guys. You will not be dissappinted

Amazing place, lovely people, excellent service, and most importantly, absolutely fabulous food!

Friendly staff. We visited on a Monday night, which was very quiet. Very happy with the halloumi & mushroom burger.

Incredible food. Plenty to choose from and absolutely delicious. We had mains and dessert and they were exceptional, tempted away from my standard sticky toffee pudding by the bakewell with pistachio icecream and it did not dissapoint. Definitely returning.

Excellent pub and fantastic overall experience. Dog friendly in the bar. Really comfortable seats and non intrusive but friendly and helpful staff. Only downside was that we could not have at a tab as sat in the bar area. Football on tv and the food is exceptional. Sunday roasts were all brilliant. Great quality meat with thick slices. Big Yorkshire’s and healthy portions. Excellent starters and desert too. Always a good sign when there’s more than 1 dish you would choose. Good choice of beers and wine too. New ownership has done the Unicorns head proud and back to its brilliant best. Highly recommended and would come back again at a heartbeat.

Pleased to say that it’s now improved significantly under new management. And I LOVE that they do 0% beer on draft! Great for the drivers and also for people who prefer not to drink. The alcohol free choices are fantastic. Also great wine list and menu. We visited for Sunday lunch and it was great to be offered the choice of pink or well done lamb. Potatoes were a bit over done but I think it’s because we were a bit later in the day. Looking forward to returning and trying out some more dishes.

It is safe to say that the Unicom has now become my favourite pub in the Vale, in fact I’d go as far as to say it’s the best pub in the Vale. Great food, pleasant and helpful staff and well kept beers. You really could not ask for anymore.

Had our lunch here today. We had an outstanding lunch with great food. The waiting girl (and chef) were very obliging when I asked if I could have the Whitebait as a main course. This is the third time we have eaten here and like our previous visits, we had a great lunch. We admit that we are quite hard to please as we are both 'foodies' and can cook great food at home. However, we have no hesitation in recommending this place to others. We will definitely be returning soon.

Great pub! Really nice staff, very attentive however, can I suggest a couple of things, firstly please have the salt pepper and accompaniment, once orded of course on the table beforehand, there is nothing worse than having a lovely meal served and then being asked would you like anything else, and then wait for salt, mustard etc. also, all the trimmings on the Sunday roast needs to be more specific! I’d like expect stuffing with chicken at no extra cost??… great pub, good food, good staff..will be visiting again.

We were looking forward to our dining experience at the Unicorns Head. Upon arrival, we were placed at a table in the middle of an empty room and some of the chairs were tiny. We asked to be moved, and we're then told the table we were at was unavailable after a certain time. We then moved back to the original table to which was overly sticky to touch. A staff member then sprayed and wiped the table but it still remained sticky. It was clear the table required a thorough wash down. Menus were dirty with food waste from previous customers. On a positive note, the customer service was engaging and the staff were kind and had empathy. Despite our meals being varied for over four people, they were disappointing as most meals came with chips which were tasteless and cooked in oil. You could buy alternative sides. The food here is expensive for what you get, and as a suggestion it might be helpful to provide options to have mashed potato instead of chips with the main course. Finally, the desserts were okay. But the cheese board selection was overpriced at £9.50 with a few small pieces of cheese and oat crackers with one of the cheeses being completely dried out as it seemed the board was plated up hours or a day prior instead of being freshly prepared.

One of the best Sunday lunches I have ever had. The beef was cooked beautifully, melted in the mouth. The extra cauliflower cheese was fab and the extra jug of gravy, much appreciated. Great menu, everyone had a different roast and there was nothing left on any plate. Puddings also lovely. I would recommend the bakewell tart. Great service, and atmosphere. Would definitely recommend and I can't wait to go back.

Great country pub with decent food and fantastic staff. Would love to have given it 5* but upon on arrival our party of 9 was informed that the management had decided the day before to make the venue CASHLESS. I really hope this is something the management re-consider. Cash is king. It is very worrying to see another small business discriminating against the elderly and people who choose to use cash.

I had my leaving party meal Wednesday 20th March the food and the service was excellent they catered for about 30 of us and it all was lovely I can highly recommend the cauliflower and butter been pie it’s the 3rd time I’ve had it and each time 10/10 Thank you all very much
