The Test Match in Rushcliffe

Improved beer selection and quality, six on offer, but expensive compared with other pubs in the area at £5.50 for a pint of Moonshine. I pay around £4.20 in Ruddington.

I went in on the 13th December to ask about booking my one year old daughters wake, who passed away couple of weeks prior. The manager gave me an email address and told me to email as he couldn't check availability when we was there. I emailed on the 14th and 15th, with no response. I rang on the 16th to enquire what was happening as the funeral was after new year and I understand how busy christmas is in hospitality, given that I am an operations manager in the industry. The manager answered the phone to tell me, they don't answer emails at weekends and he is looking at my email now. I never recieved a response to this day. This is an absolutely disgusting way to treat a grieving mother and family. The manager showed no empathy or understanding to the situation. In the end I made the booking at the Willow Tree in West Bridgford, who went out their way to ensure my daughters send off went well on one of the most difficult days of our lives. Definitely would tell people to stay clear of the Test Match, new management is appalling.

This used to be my favourite local pub and it saddens me that standards have slipped so much. The last four times we've visited they only had the choice of two white wines. The ordering seems to be very squiffy. The staff seem to change continually and not in a good way. Such a beautiful pub it's such a shame that management is lacking.

really nice selection of ales and missus enjoyed gluten free menu choices looked really good and staff/service was very quick and enjoyable looked like a very comfortable boozer in west b which there aren’t many of Not too expensive either

Wonderful historical pub down the avenue which covers both Pub classics and a great selection of local ales! Landlord and team were really nice in showing us what ales we was looking at, really enjoyed the menu (that sticky chicken blew me away!) and found it easy to sit and enjoy the easy atmosphere with friends (even if we did get a tad loud!) Team looked after us, and made us feel really comfortable when a friend felt a little sick, truly enjoyed our time here and wanted this to be known. Deffo cleanest and nice ale on the avenue!

Had starters and main meal delivered at same time and the dishes were cold won’t be eating there again

We had Christmas lunch here and it was really nice. The atmosphere was really good, food was nice and it was really good value. The service whilst really friendly was a bit slow but to be expected on Christmas day. The only down side was they let dogs into the restaurant side which was a bit odd, and there was a dog that kept barking at people. That spoilt it for us a bit sadly.

Sorry to say, but the steak & Ale Pie meal was disappointing today the pie crust was rock solid and brick like and I struggled to cut into it, some of the beef inside was inferior and fatty, pie gravy was delicious, I dislike paying so much for iffy food the server was delightful, a rather jolly chap and the decor was stunning the loos were clean and in keeping with the Art Nouveau style a beautiful venue and peaceful pub, but the food needs tweaking badly, there's too much bacon and pork added to burgers and paninis within the larger menu, more and more people in big cities avoid it and have Halal or Kosher diets, good job I'm vigilant and pored over the menu to avoid it good vegan or veggie choices but slightly overpriced generally I felt

Cask beer run out again, one person behind bar again, so waiting 15 minutes to get a beer (had to drink lager); what are Greene King up to with is pub? Landlords change but pub service doesn’t so assume brewery to blame. Only go there because they have big tables for up to ten of us. Given up complaining to my mates about this place and trying to get them to move.

Once again no staff. Quite commoun but today was worse than normal 4.30 Sunday - Busyish as Xmas & Manchester Derby on 1 person serving ( rushed off her feet for 90 minutes I was there) , 4 of the 5 cask beers run out 15 min wait for a drink on a Sunday afternoon in a semi busy pub Its always like this. If they had any local competition people would vote with their feet

Well polite staff,expensive on certain drinks the only thing that bothers me is you can smell cigarette smoke coming into the pub from outside,sometimes you see the odd one vaping inside sat down which is bad.Other than that a good pub well run.They ring the bell for last orders way to early,like 15 minutes to early,plus they turn everything off at 11pm when time is called then after 5 minutes tell you to drink up.The pub is slowly being turned into a sports pub which is not what I like and,often the TV's are on loud through the evening when sport has finished and,you simply can't enjoy your drink or chat. Other than that the staff are first class very welcoming.

As our regular I can’t rate it highly enough. We wouldn’t keep coming back otherwise. Awesome staff and a welcoming atmosphere, tick!

Came in for a drink and some food with the family , we had some lovely server Charlize who went above and beyond to ask us about allergies , preferences and if the food was okay for us. Definitely will be coming back to try the Christmas menu congrats to the chef was delicious!

Had a lovely vegan burger and watched the rugby. I really liked the decor and there was a great atmosphere.

I love visiting this pub. The staff are fantastic and always friendly and helpfull. There is a good choice of food to enjoy and a good selection of drinks. They have all the best sport and football games on. They also have some entertainment each month and a quiz every tuesday. The pub is clean and welcoming. Can't recommend enough.

Steak sandwich was inedible. When I complained at the bar (when I was finally acknowledged) I was met with a “so, I don’t do the cooking” and he tried to walk off….. asked if he would pay £10 for that he responded “no,”… I asked to speak with the manager and was bluntly told “they aren’t in”…. He may be new, he may be on minimum rate but he deserves a massive pay cut… Did speak to the lady in charge, she asked what the issue was, I pointed to the sandwich and she said “I’ll sort it”… she was very very pleasant, helpful and polite. The replacement sandwich was slightly better, but my appetite had gone. Oh and the fries didn’t make it back

Don't know if there's been a change of landlord but nowhere near as enjoyable as last visit, prices have increased somewhat & service was slow, asked continuously to repeat our order?

Lovely pub. Nice choice of food. Manager Stewart was very helpful with my disabled daughter who is in a wheelchair. Nothing was too much for him. He is a credit to the team.

Just had a pint before an England game at Trent Bridge. Sad there were so few in this pub. The pint I had wasn't the best. The pub looks fantastic.

It gets busy before & after Forest games so maybe have more than 2 staff on as the matches are planned in advance Big queue at bar just down to no staff which isnt uncommon even on Friday teatime Last Sunday afternoon they had run out of Guiness & some of the lagers I like this pub & go a lot but it needs proper organisation

Went to the Test Match to meet friends. Haven’t been there in over a year but I must say the service was of a much higher class than before. staff were lovely and very knowledgeable about their products. The manager was very pleasant and polite, it was a lovely experience and one i will do again much sooner.

Called in for food and wasn't disappointed in the service/ food/ drinks all as you would want, will be back when in the area

Such a beautifully preserved Art Deco pub. One of my favourite watering holes. I suffer from several Emphysema so zi cannot stand at the bar for service; a circumstance swiftly recognised by barman Aden. Brought me my drinks to my table which I paid for by Contactless Card. I overhear duty manger Jay say I couldn’t be bothered to get up to the bar!! She then came over to me to inform me “We only do table service for meals, not for drinks!”. I explained my situation to her to which see replied “Don’t try and play the disabled card at me!!”. I am surprised that the brewery tolerates this obvious anti-disabled attack! I will not be visiting the Test Match again and I shall certainly be making the numerous disabled societies, of which I am member, aware of Jay’s bias against the disabled! On an up note Bravo Aden, thanks for your kind understanding!!

We had a great family celebration here recently. The pub is really spacious and the service and food was excellent There was a good choice for everyone . The staff were really friendly , in particular Harrison , who is a credit to the team .

Visited the test match today for a spot of lunch. And was not disappointed. We had karaage chicken. Which was delicious. We also had the pleasure of meeting the kitchen manager who was ever so helpful. I think her name was Katy? Overall lovely experience and will be visiting again soon.

We held a 90th birthday party. The function room, menu and staff were excellent. Car parking wasn’t great but there was a car park close by. Would highly recommend the venue. Well done to all the staff very friendly, polite and professional. Nothing was too much trouble for them.

Booked a table for dinner but after we had ordered a round of drinks, had a sit down, looked at the menu and then back to order were we then told that there was no food being served. Surly, rude staff who offered no apology. Shame as we have been before and it was an ok pub for food.

Poor Food & Unwelcoming Staff. Ordered fish & chips, fish was over cooked & the chips were a kind of standard frozen version. The Bow Buns were dense, dry overcooked skewers & bland crispy squid. We were asked to move half way through our meal from a non reserved table the staff felt no need to intervene so because we have newly moved to the area we only moved to keep the peace. The old women member of staff with glasses had awful customer service & seemed to be bitter towards us for some reason. I had high hopes coming here but I have to say I am very disappointed. Even another customer was embarrassed & approached us to apologise for the awful experience. Unfortunately I would not be returning & I will not recommend the Test Match to anyone.

Had a,very dry sandwich when asked if everything was OK I said the bread was dry the waiter then said apart from that was everything else OK I said yes he said fine and walked off no offer of getting anything else

Visited a while ago for the fish cake salad with new potatoes, was absolutely brilliant, with brilliant service many thanks to Simone and Jay!

Staff are friendly but it is a strange building. Also was not expecting the old school DJ on a Friday night. Felt like a Peter Kay kind of pub - it has charm and I would go again but not quite what I expected.

Great staff makes the place. As regulars we love coming here! Superb!

I found it Very expensive. Glad I don't go out too often. Couldn't afford too. Beer was good though.

Wonderful place. Been tonight for a Christmas menu taster, cooked by the fantastic beautiful Chef Simone, and hosted by wonderful Manager Cameron, had the most delicious food treats Staff are friendly, attentive and amiable, well worth a regular visit here. Thank you everyone. X Been many times since this and try to go at least once a week, everything is absolutely stupendous, food excellent, atmosphere, music exceptional and staff are like an extended family xxx

No Pinta Cha Cha beer on, Greene King IPA was in its place. There was a different cask on the bar which replaced something else. I just wish there was always at least something different on the cask. Pub was filling for diners and drinkers tonight. Good atmosphere. Children and dogs welcome.

Food was very good, ordered the sharer dishes, exceptional, staff were on song too. Definitely return and will tell my friends about this place..

Came for a spot of lunch with friends and I have to say it was absolutely delicious! Lunch & a drink £10! What an absolute bargain! The food presentation was fantastic, and tasted great, top compliments to the chef Simone. Will definitely be coming back again and recommending it to all my friends and family

Went here for an evening meal and drink, quick service, good price and friendly staff, shout out to the team leader that help with our brief issue and thank you to the team for a lovely evening and wrapping our leftover to take home. Would recommend great team.

An Art Deco gem! Authentic 30’s revolving door entrance and angular symmetry in woodwork and lighting! Immaculately kept optics and one of the best chilled Guinness I’ve come across for a long time. Most obligingly and amiable landlord Cameron! Excellent menu prepared in a most efficient kitchen. Fair prices and vegetarian and vegan dishes available; I canning stress how important this is in s World which is growing evermore aware of the dietary impact on our habitat. To be supported!!

Change a lot since I've last been in ,nice friendly staff and good selection of beers. Fine until they turn up the music that loud you couldn't hear your self speak, time to go.

Where's my phone? Staff took a lot time out to check, then show me CCTV footage. Additionally... booked a time to call my phone to coincide with me getting back home. So cool, so thoughtful 10/10 respect x

Can't go wrong with the Test Match

Recently attended a works Christmas do at the Test Match which was brilliant. Service with a smile, amazing array of food served on the hot buffet we had and Amy bent over backwards for us.

A group of 9 of us decided to have a Christmas get together before our meeting. On arrival the tables had been reserved for our use and we were able to choose what we wanted to eat that evening. Our choices were handed to Amy, who asked if we wanted separate or group billing. Individual billing was our preference and it caused no problems. The food came out and was well presented, tasty and hot. Everyone thoroughly enjoyed the experience, even though it was a first time for many of us . I have no issues with the excellent service from the kitchen and also the bar.

We’re a group of muddy Mtb’s, normally most pubs leave us out in the cold, well not this one !!, the hostess came out and told us to bring our bikes through the pub into a secure area and then let us inside for a refreshing few pints and a warm up!, the hospitality from them was amazing and the beer selection pretty good too…thanks guys 🙏

Had such a lovely Saturday night at the test match, Amy looked after us and I couldn’t ask for better service. Very efficient, knowledgeable about the drinks she was serving and above all so kind. Couldn’t recommend enough

Nice old fashioned building good service

Took my 92 yr old mum here for birthday lunch last week. The staff were amazing, so welcoming and friendly. Food was excellent and the pub is easy to reach and a lovely interesting old building. My mum lost her ring and I had to go back. The manager helped me look and we found it by the front door. I was so pleased. Thank you! We’ll come again.

Visited this week with sister in law and our 3 children. The staff were all really welcoming and lovely especially towards the two toddlers who just wanted to explore the pub! Big thanks to chef Leo for our lunches which were a big hit. The cheese toast was especially delicious. Highly recommend.

We use to come here regularly however the food standards started slipping and we haven’t been in for some time. Went in for lunch and a few drinks. Staff were very friendly and attentive as per usual and drinks went down a treat. Thought we’d have a bite to eat, I don’t know what you’ve done/ changed but the food was impeccable. Perfectly cooked and we thoroughly enjoyed every bite. Found my favourite lunch spot! Will be returning with the family every other weekend!

Even though this establishment is under new management the staff continue to be obnoxious to the local people therefore I will not be supporting them financially or in any other way which is probably due to the fact most staff are not local.

Visited for drinks for my wife’s birthday. Excellent location as close to the residential area but also right by the strip of bars and restaurants. We were well looked after and felt the drinks range was vast and competitive on price.

Lovely place the manager is always around and happy to help, burgers are delicious would definitely recommend
