Always great food. Pop in occasionally when we are out working and patrolling the local area, we have now decided dolphin is our go to place! Love the food, always fresh and hot. Highly recommend.

I came in the other day ,sorry to say but the fish looked as if it been warm up the batter was to thick the chips weren't fresh bland the peas were ok has it bin changed hands sorry think we,LL stick to the marina in chapel

Asked for place and chips and cod and chips . Sadly the cod was dry and the chips were poor . Had to throw away most of the cod fish . The plaice which was freshly cooked wasn’t too bad .

I've never had bad Fish and Chips from here. They take cards, the food is fresh and I can't find anything wrong. A chippy always defines the area and the day out and these are Sutton On Sea ⛵.

Been here twice recently, takeaway to seats on promenade. One Sunday afternoon, Haddock & chips was really nice, & this Saturday at the Lightwaves illuminated evening; Cod & chips, pie & chips, again everything just right. Well organised place; order here/collect over there. Minimal wait considering it was mental busy everywhere in Sutton tonight. Staff run ragged but still being patient with people faffing, changing their orders then querying the price, with a bloody great queue behind them (yeah, we all wanted to ring his neck..) The takeaway boxes with a divider are great, you don't have to tip the fish out to salt & vinegar the chips. My wife made a point of how nice the food was, both visits, and she's not normally that impressed with takeaways. If you need to sit in there's quite a few tables, & a nice breakfast bar with stools. Something about it seems much better than I remember it a few years ago. Other comments say its same owners. So, Well Done to The Dolphin! & keep doing what you're doing so well !

I was disappointed with the chips. Not the usual fat chunky chip shop chips, rather small like fries cut in half. Fish was a bit greasy as it leaked through the box onto my shorts. No grease proof in the bottom of the box.

I think this place is under new management. It certainly deserves 5 stars. We had 2 cod and chips for £16 which was excellent value for money. The fish was cooked to order and was a nice big piece with a good, tasty portion of chips.

We called in here for fish and chips. The reviews were mixed, so wasn't getting my hopes up. We were here on a Monday where its cod and chips twice for £16. What a bargain. The chips and fish were fresh cooked and absolutely delicious. I must admit I am not a massive fan of fish and chips but I polished it all off. The batter was light and crispy and chips were good and hot. Hubby even thanked the staff on our way out. Would highly recommend.

Got scampi. Was soggy and tasted off. Really low quality products. Also chips were dry. Service poor. Won't visit again

I was having a difficult day having visited where I scattered my mum's ashes, it was just me and my pup and I decided to treat us to fish and chips by the sea to cheer us up. Firstly, my pup had a near mental breakdown when I tried to leave her outside the shop (separation anxiety) and to my surprise, the staff seeing i was struggling welcomed us both inside and were very understanding. Secondly, the signal around the coast is not great for me and I only had my phone wallet to hand. The card machine was taking forever to process my payment (not sure if that was because of my signal or theirs - irrelevant really). The staff told me simply to take my food and return later to check if payment had cleared. Obviously I was taken back as this was incredibly trusting, the human kindness and patience and understanding really was amazing... Or at least from where I come from. As I wasn't sure if the problem was going to be my signal, I offered my telephone number to ensure they balanced the tills by close of play. When the gentleman called later this evening, there was no hassle whatsoever, he was polite, compassionate and understanding and took payment over the phone. I cannot express how much he made what was a challenging day, a little softer, a little kinder, and the food was amazing too. Thank you dolphin staff, 10/10 above and beyond customer service - Cara and Spy!

Haddock and chips that tasted of the seaside. Lovely.

Very disappointing experience and won’t be back. You have to give your order at the end of the counter, pay and then wait until your name is called. What bit of ‘regulars and fishcake twice please’ is difficult ? Finally explained it in simple terms. Then waited and waited ….. 15 mins later my name was shouted and I was handed 2 small polystyrene boxes. I said I had asked for them to be wrapped. She said they were wrapped. Eventually some paper was found and off I went. Well if that’s a regular chips I dread to think what a small is like. The chips were nice but not really a regular size by standards of other chippies - the fishcake was nice. To be honest it was slow conveyor belt service. £8 something for a toddler portion. Suggest you try elsewhere. Won’t be back.

20 minutes to just order, and another half hour to prepare fish and chips - when arrived they were very small portions and very average at an expensive price. Mushy peas are so bland and probably out of a tin. This place used to be very good when I've been before but I wouldn't return now. Maybe instead of attacking customers for posting bad reviews you should take on board constructive criticism in order to provide a better level of service.

Serving guy was condescending & quite rude. They got the order wrong, wanted fish with no batter as gluten intolerant BUT it was battered.. after getting home only to discover this, we drove all the way back. They had the fish without batter waiting. By the time we got home again the chips were cold, the fish was ok but my cod roe was sloppy with soggy batter. All the bad reviews are correct and the attitude of the owner when responding says it all. VILE FOOD...NEVER AGAIN

Guy serving was obnoxious & rude. Ordered gluten free fish (no batter) that was a game & a half. Got home to discover fish was battered. Went all the way back & they had it ready so they knew it was wrong order. Got home again, chips now cold, fish was ok but my cod roe was sloppy with soggy batter. Vile. Never again. Came here when our usual Fish and Chip shop was closed....as it was Monday....and what a result that was....bargain 'double deal' on cod and chips, which were excellent. Service was also great....I read some quite derogatory comments in reviews for here, after we'd been....but I have to say my experience of both the food and service was superb. It will definitely be our 'usual' fish and chip shop when we return next year....many thanks...(and my wife was massively pleased they had tartar sauce for her scampi)

Came for food and was served by a lovely young girl called Amber who was polite couldn't fault her customer service she is a credit to the team ! The chip shop was very busy with full tables of familed eating and i Unfortunately witnessed the young woman being scolded by who I believe to be owner/manager over a slightly overflowing bin in front of a restaurant full of paying customers Very sad to witness and extreamly unprofessional . Food was good but unfortunately this spoiled the atmosphere. Treat your team better !

Very friendly and capable young ladies, who are excellent at their job, running this fish and chip shop. Besides fish and chips, there are tasty pies including cheese , leek and potatoes- delicious ! Nice tubs of ice cream available too. Customers with dogs are welcome. My wife and I often dine here and we are always made welcome. We thoroughly recommend this excellent little restaurant.

Very strange experience. Ordered through a small hole ( covid style ) very hard to hear due to a table full of customers talking and laughing loudly . Consequently the order was wrong with three items missing. Eventually after getting up and down several times to get the food to the table we were able to eat . The food was mediocre to be honest the tables were never cleaned between customers and there was no bin to deposit the remains and cartons and paper . We would not return or recommend this establishment at all

I am local to Sutton on sea and wish to put on record that we have two excellent fish and chip shops, this being one. The recent reviews do not portray our experience, which we found great, fish and chips just as they should be, love the scampi too. the staff are polite and hard working and I find the recent two reviews unfair. I notice neither has ever posted a positive review. Don't be put off by these Jonahs , come to Sutton and you will get great fish and chips....I can personally guarantee it!

Wooden knife and fork to eat our fish and chips inside , sold in the dish for take away !! No peas available. Tea served in a cardboard cup. No toilets . 50p for sauce. Really disappointed 😞 Expensive

Probably the worse fish and chips I have ever bought. Scratty luke warm chips and lots of batter but not much fish. Dreadful

Used to do pretty good gush and chips, not quiet whitby standard but they used to be OK. Today's fish and chips are the worst I have ever had. Over cooked fish, inedible chops and a bun that should have been consigned to the bin a couple of days ago as it was hard and stale.they were never the cheapest but I didn't mind paying for decent quality. Based on today's visit I would consider it daylight robbery. The dolphin will never see my custom again. If this Was the only place to get food in the area I would rather starve. If I could give minus stars I would.

Oh dear. What has happened to the business? We have been dining here for years when in the area. Today was the first time we have been in a while. Don’t like the restaurant part has been removed and the take away has gone down hill. We shan’t be coming back. What was the reason behind this backward step?

Our cod and chips (2 for £16) was freshly cooked and was absolutely delicious. I had no objection to eating them out of a cardboard box in the restaurant as we would have eaten them that way on the beach if it wasn’t blowing a hooley outside. I haven’t marked the restaurant for atmosphere - it’s a chippie, but it was very clean and I’d gladly go there again if I was in the vicinity.

"Service with complete indifference. As the title suggests the chips were dreadful. I threw most of them away. £3.50 I'll never see again. I won't be seeing the Dolphin fish bar, either!

An obnoxious young man who seemed to think it was beneath him to serve us was the second impression. The first was how far such a wonderful place with a proper eat in restaurant has now sunk. Back a few years it was cordial, clean and good cuisine, sadly no longer. We ate in at one of two tables, after the surly youth took our order. Eating in does not mean plates now, just an open takeaway tray and separate container for the mushy peas. Also a paper type cup for the tea. Okay, I could forgive all this if the fish, chips and mushy peas were a delight, but they were not. The haddock was a lovely piece of fish and tasted fine, once you had penetrated the oil soaked coating they pass off as batter The chips if that's what you can call them were very thin for a chip shop, and also full of oil and not a joy to eat. I know it's a new potato season but even so, try were rank. The mushy peas were mushy, but think I've had better from a tin from Aldi or Lidl. The tea in the paper cup however was a revelation it tasted like a good fresh brewed cup of tea. So in essence, if you want good fish and chips chips with polite and happy service go elsewhere, but if you only want a quick cup of tea it may suffice.

Not a good experience here. The fish was fresh but the batter and chips were poor quality, very oily and tasteless. The youth serving was surly and unhelpful. No plates, cutlery or cups just a tray and one piece of paper and wooden take away forks. Few tables available needed cleaning. Avoid!

Hi my wife and I visited yesterday for the first time since Covid having been to you many times over the years. We were disappointed to see that the restaurant area is no more - we always enjoyed that aspect and loved the atmosphere and being served etc. However quite understand your reasoning behind discontinuing it as peoples' eating and spending habits have changed post Covid. The food was lovely and we managed to nab a table outside so all good. Good value too in the current eating out climate. Just a couple of small points. We were pretty adjacent to the rubbish bin at the exit door which was well full and could have done with emptying. Appreciate the pressure re staffing when busy but just an "ambiance" thing. Also found the small wooden forks really difficult to use so much so that my wife nipped over the road to the (nice) hardware shop and bought a couple of forks ! All in all perfectly good ; just missed the experience of being inside and served etc. David and Georgina Nottingham

The Dolphin has changed so much. My memories from childhood of sitting with my grandparents at the table , and the pot of tea and bread and butter are so dear to me! The last time I came here with my children was 2018 and it was just as lovely. We had the nicest time. So so disappointed to find when visiting today it’s now a takeaway with a couple of tables. Just not the same. Food was nice but took ages and half the family were almost done before the other half got their food. (5 of us so not a massive group). It’s just a regular chippy now. Nothing like as special as it used to be. Very shouty man calling out names of orders. No ketchup in squeezy bottles either. You have to pay 50p for a tiny sachet thing. Everything changes I guess. I was so looking forward to my family sitting round the table with a pot of tea etc. Thanks for the memories ! Maybe one day it will be restored to its former glory.

Rancid food. Chips soggy & reheated. Southern fried chicken was inedible & covered in layers of fat. Fish cakes were like hockey pucks. Refried in old rancid oil. AVOID AT ALL COSTS!!!!

We had take away. The haddock and chips we had was 1st class, fresh and piping hot. We've been several times and it's always the same. I highly recommend a visit 🤓💜

Fish was greasy, chips seem small, 2 for £16

After seeing lots of good reviews about the gluten free, we went. However, I'm glad I asked about separate fryers as it appears that they do a gluten free batter but it's fried in the same oil as regular battwred fish so unsuitable for coeliacs.

Huge fresh fried haddock and chips x 2 for £17. Really, really, really good. Recommend.

I'm so sorry that i have to give a 1 star review, last time I ordered the chips were great, this time I only got a few and they were cold underneath, not good really, I now know why the Waldo's is busier it's because they cook their food properly.

Excellent value for money. Can recommend the cod & chips . If your in the area you must try them. Go to them first and save your time looking elsewhere.

I was very impressed with the chicken burger and chips when I visited here ladt Thursday afternoon, Chicken burger came with a lot of salad and mayonaise sachet, what more could I ask for, fantastic service, the young girl behind the counter was pleasant, polite, I didn't get her name but would like to give 5+ star feedback for the service she provided, I will visit again within the next week as I am staying at my parents as they live in Sutton on sea. Thank you

I realise that prices have had to go up but I spent over £50 but apart from the youngest person on the team, what a miserable bunch. A thank you would have been nice. They were far from busy so it wasn't because they were rushed.

Really enjoyed our fish and chips, and kids loved their kids meals. Will definitely go back. No complaints whatsoever.

I took my parents here who both had haddock and chips, which they really enjoyed. I had a quorn fishless fillet and chips and I saw SO MANY more vegan options including nuggets, sausage, pie, and kids options which I love to see, because veggie/vegan options often get forgotten for kids meals. We also went back for ice cream, which included vegan magnum, as well as 4 vegan flavours for traditional scoops - I had salted caramel and vanilla, and there was also mint choc and strawberry. The woman who served us was really enthusiastic every time I asked for my vegan options, which was lovely. I didn't bother to ask whether anything was cooked in the same fryer as the fish/cooked in beef fat etc., because, honestly, it wouldn't have changed my choice - I'm just happy to see somewhere making such a strong effort for vegan/plantbased food and I want to support it. The vegan ice creams are nowhere near the fryers anyway. This really helped me have a great day with my family where I could join in on the fish and chips and ice cream, and their haddock and chips were really good too. Excited to take some friends there next time. My ONLY complaint, which is a nothing complaint really, is that I was given my meal in a different, smaller box than my parents' fish and chip boxes, which were traditional looking fish and chip boxes. My smaller box was a little overcrowded (my 'fish' is buried under the chips in the photo and I used the other side for my pot of mushy peas) and it would have been nice to have had a similar box for a better fish and chips experience, but honestly, this is nothing. That's it, that's the only complaint, so obviously, it was pretty good.

Only one star as didn't give me the option for 0 stars, the worst fish and chips I've ever tasted, the fish was oily, grey and chewy. My Partner had pie and even this was all soggy and cold in the middle. Gave this a chance as my friend was it was a good chippy however i wont be going back here food was awful AVOID AT ALL COSTS!! Try Waldo's fish and chips much better

We had the lunchtime deal cod& chips twice £16. Really nice crispy light batter, thick fresh cod. If its just lunch who wants a massive portion? They sized it just right! Great place and best to take out there's no seating.

Freshly cooked cod and chips, under £14 for 2. They were beautiful. And finally a chippy that when when you ask for plenty of salt and vinegar they give you plenty not just a quick splash. Can honestly say these are the best we’ve tasted in a long time.

We are here for new year and just warmed ourselves up with lovely hot fish and chips. It was delicious- the fish was moist and tasty, the batter was crispy and light and the chips were really really good. Proper chips. All cooked fresh. Thanks so much we really enjoyed it, and would definitely recommend.

We came for fish and chips during our holiday and it's hands down the best fish me and my partner have ever had. The batter is so light and crispy. Not oily at all. Also really good deal on the 2x fish and chips! 1000% recommend.

Lovely fish n chips! The place (plaice 😁) itself doesn't do the food any favours and the surroundings are not very welcoming, but all the food we ordered was one of the best around and we have chipshop take away at least once a week, so we could all tell the difference. A large menu with lots of options and extras, and this is our 3rd order from them.

Worst chips I've had in ages , pretty sure they were warmed up from the day before , I couldn't eat them so ended up in bin , fish wasn't much better , very thin fillet , more batter than meat and the underside was sloppy ,they'll probably say it's because I didn't eat straight away but when I go to another chippy that's further away from home this doesn't seem to be a problem , I wouldve complained but I was too tired to bother going all the way back after a hard day at work

22/09 Went to the dolphin for a take away, sat on the sea front to eat it. I can honestly say it is the worst cod and chips I have ever had. The fish was a grey colour and very thin, the batter was soggy with no crispy bits at all, the chips were thin and dry and inedible. Bring it back for a replacement in the middle of our day out? Get it right first time every time! Very disappointed, very bad food, very bad responses to your patrons complaints, very bad show dolphin take away!

We live in Sutton-on-Sea, and regularly get fish and chips from Dolphin, but after the terrible excuse for haddock and chips we have just received, we won't be going again. The fish seemed like it had been left for a couple of days, and one of them was tiny. I thought they'd accidentally put a fishcake in. Unfortunately I have had to retract my positive review, from last year and leave a negative. It's a real shame, because we went every week to get them, and it was nice to have a regular place close by. Edit: I will await passive aggressive comments :) Edit: Ahh, yes here he is! Exactly the response I was expecting, except I think you may have the wrong person. I didn't come back in to the shop, and I'm far from being retired. More unhappy customers then??? Oh dear. Angry little man.

I am a retired profesional Cook and have always used this fish and chip establishment since living in Sutton-On-Sea. On the way back from Grimsby called there for 2 haddock and chips and 2 bread cakes. When we got home the fish we got was in my opinión not haddock. It was dry and obviously pre cooked and held, it was dry and no steam. Chips were not fresh and also dry.

Had fish and chips from there, among other things. Food in general is poor, but the fish and chips were terrible. Wrote a review on Google, and going on previous reviews awaited the manager's aggressive reply. It came soon enough. They clearly got me confused with ANOTHER unhappy customer. Goes to show... Definitely won't be going there again. I would suggest steering clear of this place. Hopefully it will be under new management quite soon.

Chips & sausage tasted okay but portion sizes are small & I wasn't even asked what portion size we wanted which benefits both customer & business. Bit disappointing really as I was still quite hungry afterwards.

Sadly my order was lost due to a computer error, after waiting 40 minutes knew something wasn't quite right, but sorted straight away with extras, food was lovely and fresh!

We have always used the Dolphin and recommended it to lots of our family and friends, we have always been regular visitors at least once a week through the summer but after the horrible and abusive way I have been spoken to tonight I will no longer use them, young girl politely took my order repeated it back correctly, then another member of staff got my food order together asked if I wanted salt and vinegar to which I said no he was working so quickly and on autopilot he then put salt and vinegar on I pointed out the mistake and he redid my order then he handed the order minus the chips I’d ordered I was then spoken to by the oldish blonde lady who bowled over and was so rude and wouldn’t let me check my order I didn’t want to be over charged as I’d already had my order read back to me and it was correct. I took my food back to my car and then I went back in the shop to say I was unhappy about the way I was spoken to she was again rude and aggressive swearing at me, a gentleman that was in the shop and came up to me after I left said she was out of order absolution no need for her utter rudeness and behaviour they are always applying for staff now I know why.

Ordered food tonight, not happy. It was about 8.30pm. Ordered steak pie, chips and gravy, large sausage chips and a barm, kids burger meal. Got back the caravan. Only to received chips and sausage, chips, and steak pie. Phoned the chippy at 8.50pm to tell...
