Visited for Sunday lunch with friends, grandaughter and dog. Food was good. Served piping hot which is good. Nice homely atmosphere. Young man who served us was a delight. Charming, attentive and courteous. Very good value and will definitely visit again when in area. Only criticism is no cranberry sauce to accompany roast turkey! Easily remedied I think !

The food and the hospitality were great, the steak was to die for and I would have given it 5 stars, however having been shopping at Tesco and found out the bottle of wine we had was on sale at £8.50, to have been charged £38.00! was just too much over the top. It’s a shame as it has soured the experience.

Booked on line but weren't expecting us when we got there. No orders taken at table but had to join a long queue to order food and drinks, then waited 40 mins for food. Food very disappointing, undercooked veg and roasts, gravy very thin and waterey, yorkshire puds uneatable. Will not be returning.

Food was good however the customer service let the evening down a lot. The food order was taken wrong, understandable. We were charged for the more expensive one, unsure of the difference, I asked about this that was met with the manager being rude and giving us the 50p difference. Not a singular apology, especially with one of our meals arriving when the others were about finished. Ordering deserts was met with more rudeness from her and the whole interactions tainted our evening. After a few times of visiting here we won’t be back as would feel uncomfortable with her service again.

Love this place, we usually visit weekends, afternoon/early evening. Friendly atmosphere. Traditional old English boozer in the historic area of the town, with real fires in the winter. Sports on the telly but not "in your face", there's plenty of nooks and crannies for chatting with mates. Usually about 3 real ales to choose from, plus the expected lagers etc.
