So we were stopping here after visiting family in the area and we were on the way home. It was a very quiet afternoon. Some might not like that it's quiet but for us it was perfect. It's a bit strange inside as it's half-pub, half Travelodge but despite hesitations we found it t be perfect for what we wanted (i.e. a snack and rest after a long journey). We had the 3 plates deal (I think it was for £14-£15) and it was plentiful for the two of us. I can see why this is rated the no. 1 spot in the area.

Lived in the area nearly 40 years, used to be lovely, and you’d struggle to get a table. Now it’s changing hands every few weeks, all terrible, give them honest feedback and they block you on social media. Awful food, awful service, and I definitely won’t be back…….to get a 1 star hygiene rating this week is bad enough, but then they organise a bank holiday event, scam stall holders and the guide dog charity, and end up closed. Need to be closed down for good.

Wouldn't recommend working here to anyone never mind going for food. They don't pay their staff and their attitude is shocking. Rude to customers as well as the staff. Lied about paying me cash in hand and refused to pay me altogether which I know I'm not the only person she doesn't pay. So unless you want to work for free this isn't the place you want to work at.

From the second we arrived we felt like one of the family, the owner met us at the door and seated us. I wasn’t sure what beer to get and he let me try it. Ordered from the 2 for £15 all day breakfast, was amazed by both portion size and quality. Totally blown away. What added to our experience was the ambiance and music - top taste in music too found ourselves singing along. The owners very humble and can’t do enough for you, keep up the good work you are appreciated!

Could have been better. It’s a shame as it’s a lovely pub with great staff but unfortunately our 80th birthday meal didn’t quite meet the previous review standards. Sunday lunch 30/06/24. Party of 15. Not enough places laid - no problem- we got another table and chairs and added it to the end. Chose meals from the menu. Food started to be served. At that point anyone who had ordered anything but a roast dinner was told only roast dinners were available. They had no scampi and no hunter’s chicken. Roasts were promptly ordered. More meals were served. Then the 2 guests that asked for a vegetarian alternative were asked if they would like a quorn chicken fillet. By this point some of our party had nearly finished eating as we didn’t want their food to be cold. Roast beef dishes were served so late that 10 minutes later the waiting staff were clearing plates away making it an uncomfortable experience for members of the party who had only just started eating. I must add at this point that there were very few people in the pub other than us. We had chosen this venue as the nearest alternative wanted pre ordered choices and this menu offered so much more than it could deliver. I’m not advising to avoid this venue. Just lower your expectations.

The Bulls Head had been recommended for its food, and we are happy to advise that the rumours are true! The homemade carbonara and lasagne were delicious, reasonably priced and good portions (too much for one of our table); no one left hungry! Friendly staff and good service, albeit it was not busy whilst we were there. However, I can see that changing soon as more people experience the culinary delights!

We thought we would give this place a chance as it's under new management again. Unfortunately that was a massive mistake, we both ordered hunters chicken which took a while to arrive despite it being nearly empty, only 3 tables dining. We asked for vinegar which was given in a sauce pot no bottles on the table and the chicken was completely inedible dry as a bone. It stated it came with fries, coleslaw and onion rings, the onion rings were just greasy batter, recieved no coleslaw and the fries were chunky chips bit probably the only edible item of the meal. We were never asked how the meal was as there was only 1 member of staff running the bar, taking food orders and serving them. I didn't eat the meal as stated it was dreadful, when the food was taken I expressed my disappointment and was given an apology and told he'd let the chef know. When we got the bill we were still charged for every item despite being unable to eat it, I told the waiter I was unhappy to pay for the meal in full as it wasn't acceptable. Waiter had to message him manager and a round of drinks were removed from the bill. Would not return or recommend anyone to eat here. It was also freezing in the restaurant I had to keep my scarf on while eating.

We went for a birthday Sunday lunch, it took over 50 minutes for our drinks to come to which we was told the drinks will be took off the bill due to having to order them more than once for them to arrive. The young servers are petrified of staff and constantly apologising profusely and shaking while cleaning tables, when we first arrived we even saw one that looked to be crying - not the nicest experience. They kept coming and asking if everything was okay multiple times where it became beyond a joke. While waiting for our food we got approached approx 4 times asking 'is there anything else I can get you?' bit of an awkward time to ask this while we are waiting for our dinner - we don't want anything else, we would like our dinner. Our food finally came after a long wait too except for one meal, we kept chasing up when this burger was going to come out. They told us many times 'it is just being plated up now'. We had all finished our dinners and it still had not arrived! We told the staff not to bother with the burger as the gentleman had gone off the idea of having this as the idea of eating your meal on your own is not nice. We asked for a white wine, they brought out a red. While we was eating our dinner we was approached approx 6 times asking if our food was okay - it got a bit silly. There was just never ending problems. We had to ask multiple times for sauces and when they finally brought sauces out they missed the ones we actually asked for. When we paid the bill they didn't take off our drinks as promised, but they did give us discount on the food. The table next to us had been waiting for their desserts for almost an hour. The whole experience was the strangest. If you want to be served by petrified servers that don't seem to have been trained properly this is the place for you.

I used to love bulls head, nice busy atmosphere and food always nice. Was excited to see it reopened and booked via Facebook, a lovely speedy response. On arrival we were greeted by two young members of staff, they didn't have a note of my booking but we're very apologetic about this and we were seated and offered drinks. The young lady waiting on our table seemed very worried and anxious and kept apologising which I found unusual given there was really nothing to apologise for. Our food order was taken and yet more apologies for nothing at all. There really was no issue. The Sunday roast we had was ok, all hot and tasted fine. I don't think I'd have a roast again. A young waiter then came over and asked if we wanted the bill which I accepted and asked if we went to the bar to pay or if they came to us, he shrugged and wasn't sure but didn't go to find out. No problem as we wanted to finish our drinks and enjoy a chat anyway. When we got up to the bar to pay the lady behind the bar wasn't very welcoming and seemed to also be on edge. Overall I can't say it was a pleasant experience nor did I feel relaxed. Wouldn't return in a hurry unless it was for a drink. Lots to work on with the customer experience and constantly apologising when I hadn't complained about anything was very unusual. Hopefully the youngsters can gain some coaching and have proper training so they can work on their customer service skills.

This pub should be heaving with customers but the problem is you can't get served even when it's so quiet you're the only person in there. This is the current manager's second go at running it and to be honest it's not much better than the last people . If you want folk to come and stay make sure there's someone behind the bar , don't keep them waiting until they leave and don't come back . It's not rocket science !! All the old customers had to find other places to go and all they will do ,if they can't get served is go back to where they've been drinking at previously . It's a shame but true .

Went on Saturday for lunch time, and we really enjoyed the food. Delicious steak pie, chips and mushy peas, and my mum really enjoyed the Hunters Chicken off the specials board. The home made cheesecakes and the sticky toffee pudding were really lovely too. The rosé wine I had wasn't chilled as much as I would have liked though, but I requested an icecube for it which sorted the problem. Service was friendly but slow, surprising given how empty the place was. However the lad who served us appeared to be learning the ropes (we had to ask that our dirty plates were removed when he brought our desserts, and the nearby empty table's dirty crockery remained uncleared for the duration of our visit). Minor complaint though, and certainly didn't spoil our meal. The place was clean - no sticky tables during our visit (I have read this was an issue on previous reviews). The outside could do with improving to encourage people in, it looks deserted. We were passing on a walk and decided to risk a visit, not sure we would of bothered if we were driving past. Some potted shrubs and/or hanging baskets out the front might help, as would a lick of paint and an 'Under new management' sign. The menus are good so sticking some in the windows would really help to give people confidence to pop in and visit.

We’ve not been here for years, and it’s changed hands a couple of times since. It used to be bustling, but we pulled up today on a Sunday lunchtime and the car park was empty, which was concerning. As expected, it was pretty dead inside, only a few tables occupied. The whole thing is very amateurish, it felt like none of the staff had worked a pub/restaurant before. The older lady, who one of the staff called Mum, was barking at the younger staff, and shouting across the restaurant at them. We assumed it was a family of Mum, son and daughter. None of them seemed to have a clue, and the younger ones looked miserable. The chairs are grubby, the tables sticky and they’re not laid. You have to not only fetch your own cutlery, but also your salt and pepper. The carvery had been standing too long and was cold. The veg was all soggy and inedible and stood in an inch of water. The stuffing was dried up cheap packet stuff. The gammon was very fatty, the beef similar and very tough. The turkey was ok, as was the mash, the yorkie, and the parsnips. The wine wasn’t chilled, not even remotely. There were several large flies buzzing around. When we sat down we were given no instructions as to how to order. We sat for a while expecting to be approached by a waiter, but were ignored, so we eventually went and asked at the bar, and were told you order at the bar. It would have been nice to have been told that on arrival. I know this team have only just taken over, but they’re embarrassingly bad. I sincerely hope they get their act together and improve the establishment and customer service, but I’m afraid I can’t see them making it work. Much as independent pubs can be lovely if run properly, I think the only hope for this one is be taken over by a chain. We won’t be back.

Greeted by an almost empty pub and a slightly fusty smell. There was a sign on the bar saying cash only, thankfully we had some cash. We went for the soup and a sandwich deal. The soup was ok, could have been hotter. It came with bread and butter, plus a separate plate with a sandwich, salad and chips. It was like 2 separate meals rather than a usual soup and a sandwich meal which was a little odd. On the bright side the chips were good! The sandwich was nice enough despite the fact they had no brown bread. My half of lager was flat, completely. Not a single bubble to be seen. We decided to have a coffee after but we’re told that the coffee machine was broken, but we could have an instant Nescafé, but they didn’t have cream. We didn’t bother. It struck me that the place had opened before they were ready. It didn’t smell or look very clean and the equipment wasn’t working. The staff were pleasant but seemed a little confused by what they were doing. I won’t go back.

It wouldn’t have been so bad but it was a birthday celebration some birthday Who ever is in charge needs to learn to keep the customers informed of what is going on not just blanking them, it will be a long time before we go back if ever, mind you they must have made their money on the drinks so food was irrelevant. We weren’t the only ones who complained,

So glad to see the bulls head back open! How we missed you! We went tonight for their first night serving food under the new management and it was absolutely beautiful! You think First night ooo risky as everyone's getting their bearings but not one complaint! The food was proper home cooked and fresh! The burgers was lovely and juicy all 3 of us enjoyed every bite! The management and staff were all pleasant. We will certainly be back! Perhaps for a carvery next! Thank you!!

We booked the Bulls head Christmas fayre for our works Christmas meal. The cost was £24.99 for 3 courses we had to pre-order in advance and pay a £10 deposit. The meal was booked for 7.30pm and we all arrived on time. By 8.15pm nobody had asked if we were ready to eat. Come 8.20pm the starters finally arrived. Most had the vegetable soup and warm bread. The soup was nice but not very hot. A couple had the garlic mushrooms. This was nothing like the menu had described (ive added a photo of the menu) and was in fact more of a mushroom soup served with garlic bread???? Again we had to then wait for the main course to arrive. Most had the turkey and trimmings. There was possibly 2 small slices of turkey, loads of new potatoes, a couple of roasts, a stuffing ball and 2 pigs in blankets then the vegetables.....soggy broccoli, cauliflower, carrots, Brussels and peas sat in water on the plate. A couple had steak and chips I have never seen anything like it. Instead of the listed steak, home cooked chips and a grilled tomato. What arrived was a plate of soggy broccoli, cauliflower, carrots and peas along with new potatoes. The steak was at the side and oven chips not home cooked ones on the top the plate was full of water from the soggy veg. We then had a wait for pudding which we all agreed with was the nicest part of all the meal. When it came to paying we were told we couldn't pay separately if paying on card? We know this is totally untrue. Over the next few days the person who booked the table asked people how they felt and most were disappointed with their meal. The Bulls head was messaged to express everyone's issues and there was an apology and they explained a chef was off that night due to sickness. We would have rather been told this at the time. Also, they did apologise about the payment issues. If you're looking for somewhere to have a Christmas fayre go elsewhere.

Great carvery, we were able to easily book for the Sunday meal. Large car park with disabled bays, easy flat access to the bar and restaurant for any disabled or infirm people. The restaurant does have a masoneen level with by the looks of it is only accessible by the stairs. The place was clean and we were met by the pleasant barmaid and bought our drinks and paid for our carvery. Sadly there was no vegetarian option (the wife doesn't eat meat) but I still had to pay the £12.95 as per the normal carvery. We came to an arrangement that I would have my wife's share of the meat. Choices were varied although I would have prefered a mix of ham and turkey but the turkey didn't arrive till I was at the sauces bar. The ham that I had was OK but as it was carved thickly it did become a little chewy in parts but on the whole great taste and both the wife and I enjoyed our meals.

Carvery was £12.95 for a choice of 2 meats. You get one slice of each. I chose lamb and pork. The very small slice of lamb I was given was pretty bland and dry, the pork was chewy and not good. I ended up leaving most of it which was disappointing. The Yorkshire pudding had burnt bits on it which ruined the taste so again I had to leave it. I was dining with family and theirs was the same. Guessing the same pans are used to bake them without cleaning in between, not sure how they'd end up with burnt bits stuck to them otherwise. The cauliflower cheese had no cheese crust at all, and looked like it had been smashed with a potato masher but I thought I'd give it a go anyway as I love it but really shouldn't have bothered. Lots of choice of veg but unfortunately it was all sat in water and did not look appealing at all, usually I would have a small amount of all the veg but instead I just opted for peas and carrots, which were bland. The stuffing balls crumbled into bits when cut on half. The roasties looked so good, but from tasting it was evident they had been deep fried. The mash was bland. The only thing about this carvery that was any good was the gravy. It was very tasty. Shame the rest of the dinner was a big let down. I went with my partner and sister. We all agreed it was not worth the money at all, not even close. They don't have decent wine either. Cheap stuff. If you like decent wine with your meal, you won't find it here!

Visited on two occasions recently once for a carvery which was absolutely delicious between the four of us we tried all the different meat the carvery had to offer and it was all lovely. The other time there was a group of 9 of us coming for lunch, we phoned up the day before to book a table and pre-order our food, the pies are all proper home made pies which looked lovely, chips were home made and there was no complaints from any of us! There's always a good range of desserts on offer too. We will definitely be back

New management and team in place since September time (2022) and it’s made a huge improvement! The Food is amazing, well presented and delicious and you can tell the team really care, all very helpful and welcoming. Dogs are welcome in the bar area and the staff were really kind and accommodating, everyone we encountered went above and beyond to make our visit incredible! Will definitely be returning and would certainly recommend! I live the fact they have themed nights and events too, makes it a real great value evening out!

Food was awful, the fish tasted like charcoal but was gooey inside it really wasn’t good. Kids meals were burnt, staff were really rude especially the 2 blonde members of staff. Stood complaining about the fact we complained right infront of us. I’ve never visited anywhere where the staff have been so rude I definitely would avoid. Steaks were ok if you don’t mind a bit of jaw ache after visiting, coleslaw smelt off and tasted even worse. Safe to say we didn’t stay for puddings. Staff took no responsibility for the awful food!

Nice beers on tap. Been coming to this pub for 20 odd years and the beers now are some of the best it's had.
