The Denby Lodge in Amber Valley

Generally a decent pub, obviously part of a big chain but felt like a decent local

This was my first visit and I wasn't disappointed. The pub is clean and comfortable with pleasing decor. The staff are efficient and friendly. There is a great menu plus a specials board. The desserts are the best value for miles. Well with a visit

We visited The Denby Lodge after a few years away (when previously the food was very good). Camembert came drenched in olive oil and was rubbery, even after sending back it came back rubbery. We asked for it to come with extra bread - which was cheap and nasty bread. The mains arrived and sadly no better, the chips were clearly frozen (hard in the middle) and the food was lukewarm, with brown lettuce to go with it. If you like Hungry Horse or cheap food, then this place is probably for you but the claims on the website of quality of food are extremely questionable. The manager took the main we didn’t eat off the bill and the Camembert /bread - but didn’t really go above and beyond to say sorry. We won’t be returning sadly and are in the process of ordering tonight’s dinner after what can only be described as a disaster.

Avoid the chilli, others had a nice meal but mine was just mush and not enjoyed at all. Garlic bread was nice though......

Had the festive menu. Edible but nothing special. Turkey was tender and moist but that was the best bit. Potatoes frozen, Yorkshire pud frozen, boiled basic veg (carrots, green beans, sprouts), mash (not usually on a Christmas dinner in my mind!), 1 tiny pig in blanket, awful stodgy stuffing and bland gravy. Crackers on the table were a nice touch but they had no gifts in. Meh.

A lovely evening ruined by an over ambitious assistant manager by the name of Will. His inexperience on how to deal with customers left a bitter taste with the entire party of 9. Pointing and showing an aggressive facial expression by gritting his teeth when addressing a customer is not acceptable on any level. We were told it was the managers night off. But still requested to see him, only to find out he was the chef of duty that night. He explained , they just can’t get the staff and to speak with the ‘company’ regarding our issues. What also left the party feeling some why nauseous, what the amount of dandruff on the chefs right shoulder. Up until that point we all said what excellent value it was for the Xmas meal. After witnessing the dandruff, our stomachs did a fair few turns. Please be mindful that the place closed at 10pm and they will literally leave you in the dark whilst they close down at 9:45 to go bang on 10pm.

The atmosphere is great here. It's very nice inside and is a great place to eat. We were a party of over 20 ladies and they managed it incredibly well. The service was excellent. The food was nice although it wasn't all homemade. We had food from the Christmas menu so I can only comment on that. I had 3 courses, and the carrot and coriander soup was the best. I would definitely go back.

Burgers are bad the 4 people out ov 20 on our table had them all left them .bun was over cooked the meat was still moooin. What a waste ov money. Also over price . Mc Donald's would have been cheaper and better

Went for a special occasion, lovely eatery, cannot fault the food, but portion size. Some were huge while others were small, felt a bit rushed for dessert but having said that everything was cooked to perfection and the dessert was scrumptious. Definitely going back again.

Visited on a Friday night, staff were friendly and food is always good. There was a wait for food but we were told this before ordering. Busy so best to book a table beforehand.

Arrived at 6.30. Order taken at 6.50 for main course. Arrived at 7.25. Chips poor, meal average. Won't be going again. Don't serve any decent beer. Just lager and cider.

Good, a bit on the expensive side, 21 pound for surf and turf, 5.35 for a pint of shandy, 6 pounds for a dessert, etc. Very quiet when we went, plenty of tables to choose from, quick service, staff good. Nice place, plenty of parking, nice food, clean, tidy, been here before, I will return in the future.

Always good quality food and at a constant standard. Basic pub grub but tasty and well presented. Currently an offer of 2 meals for £16. Good portion sizes.

Don't go there if you want to eat after 7pm. We were a party of 6 3 of us had bad stomachs 24 hours later. The frys looked like they were cooked twice and cold. The place was nearly empty by 830pm. I don't recommend this place at all.

Food was fine but we were made very unwelcome by the staff who reluctantly served us and were very eager to get rid of our party of 10 people by turning lights off around the premises by 10.30pm. I will NOT be returning as this place has gone down hill rapidly.

Love it here. Good food at low prices That was then. This is now Recently changed ownership. The prices have now risen. I had Gammon with chips and mushy peas. I got charged an extra 1£ for an egg (or Pineapple) I think the value is now not so good I would suggest a rethink on prices or lose your customers

The place was filthy and the staff have zero customer service skills. After seeing the state of the bar, we decided not to eat and left after a really weird tasting pint of Guinness.

Overpriced. The two for £16 is about right. Worth it for this. If you are an odd number or want the full priced menu, there are much better places. The food is pub food at restaurant prices and the quality does not match up. Some staff are excellent and some just ok. I go out a lot in this area and if paying £15 plus for a main I would choose a better place.

Booked 80th party for 21 guests for Sunday Dinner.Staff very polite efficient and attentive.Meal served to all guests very quickly. Everything cooked to perfection,nice and hot.I pre ordered as I thought it would help.Everyone very impressed with how it all went.Can highly recommend a visit if you haven't been there. We live local and have only recently visited here. Been a couple of times in the past month and both have been really positive experiences. Great value for money, good portion sizes, nice outdoor seating area and the Sunday roast yorkshires are amazing!

Nice pub. Decent parking. Good two for £15 meal deal. Very impressed with the value of the vegetarian lasagne. I had fish and chips which was fine. Seemed to be lots of people going in on a Friday afternoon but the place is pretty big and it didn't seem busy at all once inside. Didn't have to book and got a table no problem.

Went for Sunday Roast only to find it finished at 3.00 doesn't say that on there website very misleading

Not as good as it was on previous visits. Burger was greasy chips were not good. Greasy snd soggy. I had the wrap Yorkshire pudding beef wrap the bits that came.off the carving off the beef joint????. Always had a good experience here until today

We love our local pubs and you can't get more top quality pub gub in our area than the Denby Lodge. Always consistently good quality food at affordable prices.

We went to the Denby Lodge for an 18th birthday party for our daughter. It was for a party of 16. We sat on a large table all together with plenty of room. The food and drink was superb and at reasonable prices too. The service was exceptional with all food served promptly to the whole table. The staff were very friendly and helpful. We will definitely go back. Thanks for a great evening!

Been a few times now whilst in Aberdeen. Last visit was poor. Toilets a mess, hadn't been check for nearly 5 hours (ex spoons employee, I checked the sheet). Came back to fi d dri k gone but plates not cleared and weren't for ages either.

Our first visit to Denby Lodge and we'll definitely be returning. Food was lovely, service was very attentive and Christmas decor was very pretty.

Food was hot (Fish & Chips) although the Lamb was a bit 'tough'.

Decent pub grub - nothing fancy but cooked well. Service and staff were excellent. Was a bit quiet for a Saturday tea time.

I visit here regularly as it's a nice 45-minute walk to get there after a day stuck looking at a computer screen. Very nice place, a lovely calm atmosphere. I'd visit anytime.

What a thoroughly lovely place. The decor is modern and very appealing. Everywhere was clean and tidy. The staff was really friendly and pleasant, and the Manager (?) welcomed us and chatted with us about our baby. The choice of food was good, and we chose from the " 2 meals for £15 " deal. When it arrived, it was really piping hot, well-cooked, and presented nicely. Desserts were gorgeous, too. We'll definitely go again soon.

Awful. Really bad. Surly staff is one thing, but the food was also dire. Mine was genuinely inedible! It has been a very long time since I have left food. The steak is cut straight from a shoe, the rest just seemed to be badly reheated frozen stuff. It's what used to be called 'meal in a basket' bar food decades ago. Very limited choice of beer. Will definitely not recommend or return.

Rude staff tried clearing away meals that we re still being eaten, food was not hot and very bland. When ordering sweets we were made to feel we we re putting them out no manners from older lady serving and taking our order felt we were putting her out
