Writing a negative review is a rare thing in my family but we had a really unpleasant experience here today. We were really looking forward to a meal here after hearing recommendations from other folk staying at our campsite. We phoned to check for availability and to check if it was dog-friendly. A friendly voice at the other end of the phone confirmed both and asked for our details, inviting us to head over. We made the 20 minute drive from where we were at the time and found the pub in a beautiful setting. However, upon entering, we weren’t acknowledged in any way but made our way to where we thought the restaurant part was. We waited there close to the bar. There were a couple of staff behind the bar busy serving customers but nobody to speak to or to show us to a table. We waited for 5 minutes, feeling a bit like spare parts, until I joined the queue at the bar to ask a female member of staff if we could have a table for 3. She asked if she could get us drinks which we ordered but were left hovering at the bar waiting with no indication of where to sit. Once we were given drinks, I asked a passing male member of staff in an apron whether we could sit at a nearby table. He said rather dismissively, “Er, yeah, as long as you sit this side” indicating the hard floor area, glancing at the dog. There was no “Certainly, I’ll fetch you some menus” niceties or anything like that. We sat with our drinks and some menus were ‘plonked’ on the table after a while. We were left to look at them for a long time without anyone coming to check if we were ready to order. A female member of staff sat at a nearby desk with her back to us. There didn’t appear to be anyone in charge of waiting tables. We decided to finish our drinks and leave. Even then, my husband had to wait a good while at the bar to pay for them, leaving my Mum and I standing waiting. No one asked why we were leaving or appeared to notice or care. We noticed as we left that there appeared to be a function underway in a separate building. Perhaps this left a lack of staff seeing to the ordinary customer. I feel that if this was the case, we shouldn’t have been ‘invited’ when phoning ahead! A thoroughly disappointing experience and a waste of time. It was meant to be a lovely ending to our holiday. We didn’t actually eat anything at the pub but we were all left with a bitter taste in our mouths.

Samosa Wallah here. Brought up in Bombay or must I call it Mumbai? Butter chicken or chicken mukhan walla (was a regular order on Sunday at a quality restauarant called Kwality.. Honestly , had the butter chicken last night.. Wow.. not tasted a butter chicken as good as this for years. Bar a trip to Dharamahala. if you want an authentioc quality Punjabo style curry ... go to the Carrington Arms.. If its a Saturday or Sundau watch a few overs of a village cricket game. At last a pub restauarant that serves a truly authentic good Indian choice..

There are so many gastro pubs in the area serving great food, but unfortunately the Carington Arms is not one of them. If you are looking for a basic burger and chips or fish and chips then it’s adequate but nothing to write home about.

I was with a walking group and we pre-order our meal before commencing our walk The menu was extremely limited, especially for vegetarians. I asked if sandwiches were available or soup & was told no by a member of staff behind the bar. On the menu, there ere however burgers for £10.95. It stated that a vegan option was available so I order this. On arrival at lunchtime ordered my drink, a small line & soda, & paid for my meal at the same time. I was charged £16.95, which I thought was expensive but as the lady was very busy I thought I’d query it before I left. The burger itself was just vegetables coated in breadcrumbs, nothing special and I had my doubts that it was vegan: I thought it had probably got egg in it. As I’m vegetarian that didn’t concern me When I got home I remembered that I had queried the price so I rang the pub, having first checked the menu online: my burger was prices at £10.95, meaning half a line & soda was £6!!!!! The lady who answered the phone said that the burger came up as £14.95 on the till. I told her that both the menu in the pub and online stated £10.95. She said she’d get the owner to ring me. He/she didn’t. I phone the next day & left a message asking for a callback. They didn’t. The next day I rang & left another message. They didn’t call back I know it’s only £4 that I was overcharged, but as a percentage of £11 that it quite a lot I would not use this pub again, non existent customer service

Table for 6 / asked for our drinks …the waitress delivered the wrong drinks??? Ordered 5 Sunday roasts and one scampi. Eventually food came..??? 5 out of six meals were cold ???we pointed this out and the waitress must of forgot and waked off ?? so again we suggested our food is cold can you reheat !!!??? Plates were removed and then side dishes were delivered? Twice after 15 mins we asked were is our food which was taken for reheating ?? Guess what delivered cold again!???! Asked if they could reheat side dish as that was now after 15 mins was cold ??….after 10 mins asked where it was ….??? Burnt to a crisp so left that??? Asked for another round of drinks…twice ??15 mins later asked again…??? eventually delivered….wrong order again…???by this stage we can no longer stand it so we stopped eating Five meals were left half eaten wrong drinks were left Shocking customer experience but gets better We were asked was everything ok??? Really??? Apparently we were told chef just arrived and one front of house down That makes this chaotic shambolic service ok then !! We were asked if we wanted sweets on the house we all declined The establishment didn’t charge for the starter or one round of drinks Obviously in their mind they delivered top service?? If you want some freebies then this is the place to go as it is chaotic If you want a lovely calm Sunday lunch with friends that you enjoy and have a great experience then give this circus a miss The owner /manager should consider training the staff to deliver simple value for money food and maybe stop looking to blame other people. Never again …? if this establishment can’t deliver consistency then eventually it will be another casualty and close .

The bar meals were very poor value for the money and came in random cardboard boxes - most likely to hide the lack of food within the box and gave the barman time to leave before receiving complaints. I did check the floor to see if some food were dropped on the way from the kitchen. Although there was only about five choices off the bar menu, the barman forgot who ordered what food and asked people who didn’t order food - what they ordered! Wouldn’t recommend if you’re peckish (not even hungry) but should be fine if you have hungry children under 5yrs old.

I have used the Carington Arms for large group bookings for my business on several occasions and also to treat my mum to afternoon tea. The group bookings have been organised with a planned pre-order menu. At every occasion they have been friendly and communicative during the planning stages. On the day the food has been of exceptional standard and taste. Delivered hot and fresh and everyone’s order has been correct. I don’t know how they do it! Simply the best. The cream tea was super delicious and the venue is just stunning. To the whole team, I know you’ve had a tough few years, keep doing what you’re doing because I can’t imagine you doing anything else you’re quite simply, the best at what you do. I will continue to keep coming back. Kind regards Candice Mason

Myself and four others arrived for an evening meal on Saturday 11th September and were looking forward to an enjoyable meal as we had many years before at this pub. We were very dissapointed with the quality of the food that we had. The seasoning of all the dishes were all heavily salted, not overly hot, and poorly cooked. We went on to have a dessert which also was not of a decent standard, and at nearly £6 each, was overpriced. With that, and waiting nearly an hour between courses, when the restaurant wasn't that busy, was extremely poor. The manager did apologise when we complained, and deducted some money off our bill, not enough in our opinion for the overall quality of the meal we had. We will not be returning.

After being recommended to us, we booked for Sunday lunch with friends whilst staying locally at a nearby caravan site. First we were ushered quickly to our table and told that someone would take our drinks order when were seated, this would you be bad but none of knew what beers and ciders they actually sold. Once seated we waited 10 mins for a young inexperienced waitress to take our drink order. Unfortunately she didn't know what they sold either so we opted for the normal boring lager to make life easy (even the real ale drinkers did this). Each drink was delivered individually with quite some time between them then one drink didn't arrive so a trip to the bar was needed to ask where it was ! Once perusing the nice looking menu was over, our oder was taken. We never waited long for our starters and we all agreed that they were lovely and very tasty. This in mind, we were all looking forward to our roast dinners. This is where it all changed....we were not informed that the beef was served rare and had I have been a vet I suspect I could have got the breathing again!! I could have managed rare as a one off if it were succulent and not like chewing on an old leather boot. Others in the group had turkey which was fine however the sausage wrapped in bacon was putrid and tasted off. We were served vegetables in a deep bowl wih various veg in. Unfortunately we didn't know what was in there until we dug to the bottom. As it happened the veg on top we didn't like so we asked for the bowl to be taken back and presented in a more appropriate way. It came back in a flat server still mixed up ! One small boat of gravy was presented between 6 of us (all gravy lovers) so much of our time was spent asking for more or asking for better presented veg. I felt sorry for the waitress but I suspect it was a lack of training from management which made the poor girl look Inadequate at her job. The landlady attempted to be polite but was clearly disgruntled by us sending the veg back and requesting more gravy. We will not be returning and wish we had stayed on site for Sunday lunch in the clubhouse!

My only slight criticism was that the bread had been toasted just a little too much but still very nice. Chips were good too, and I suspect homemade rather than pre packaged oven variety. Service all very pleasant too. Again one little niggle in that there was a cat wandering around the bar and it jumped up onto our table. Not ideal when you are eating. The pate and creamy mushrooms were both abundant in size and very tasty. The mains of curry - which was excellent with one of the largest Nan breads ever and the pie were both excellent. Really helpful staff and welcoming and friendly. We needed to move the timing of the booking slightly and it was no trouble at all, they were very accommodating. The food was presented nicely and tasted great! We went as a family as my brother in law are moving into the area, we will definitely be back (regularly!)Really lovely country pub and food

My daughter and I went to eat on Tuesday evening with Max the dog. The staff were wonderful and the young lady on the bar said we could eat inside, but we decided to sit in the wonderful beer garden overlooking the cricket pitch. We ordered amazing starters of Whitebait and a Prawn Salmon Salad followed by a lovely homemade Cheeseburger & Chips. The service was impeccable, I wish them well for the future and know that if anyone is looking for a traditional country pub in a beautiful setting will not be disappointed. the bill was less than £28.00 including 4 drinks.

We called in at the Carington Arms after many years absence and were pleasantly surprised at the quality and presentation of the food. The menu is wide ranging including a number of vegetarian options ( I had the Falafel). The food was delicious. Ashby Folville is worth a visit for its stunning country location and the pub just sets it off.

Had lunch as part of a group of eleven. Great food every one of us commenting positively on the quality. Ihad the Chestnut Mushrooms others had the Prawn Cocktail with Smoked Salmon, beautifully presented great taste and generous portion size. The mains were equally superb, the Pies are actually that, a proper pie (not just a top)with really good pastry well filled and a great taste, also between us we had the Chicken, Salmon, Gammon and Falafels all beautiful in their presentation, excellent size greatly enjoyed with brilliant service. Although I couldn't manage a pudding these too looked lovely on the plate greatly enjoyed and loads of favourable comments. All were reasonably priced. Great experience we will come again.

We sadly lost out local a few weeks back and we have been searching for new pub , we had heard that the Carington arms was near by and I can just about remember it from years ago , so one lunch time we on the spur of the moment we decided we needed lunch , we pulled up and it looked nice and smart from the outside and the car park was half full , the bar area was nice and welcoming and the staff where nice and friendly, there seemed to be a few muppets who can sit now where but at the bar and we found it a bit awkward to see what beers where on offer , the food menu looked good and lunch was ordered , the food was simple but simply perfect the ham was home cooked and the cheese was local all in all very very good , will be back you bet we will and we will be taking friends with us pubs like this need using or they will disappear like others in the area

We called in on a Saturday lunchtime. We received a very warm welcome. The atmosphere was good and the menu was varied with light meals and full lunch selection. The food was well cooked and presented in a very timely manner. The prices are reasonable. The service was good too.

After a shaky start with the beer (possible off barrel) but a nice pint of Doom Bar in the end. Staying nearby camping decided upon here after reading reviews and was not disappointed. Had Sunday lunch, can not fault the quality and would happily have paid more for this very reasonably priced meal. Definetly would recommend if you are in the area.

I can honestly say that the mushroom and Stilton soup I had here was the best I've ever had. It was complemented by a hunk of beautifully cooked bread. I know I only had the soup as I was in a rush but I've had to let the trip advisor community know about it as it was stunning.

We went here as a Valentine's date with my wife. Trust me, when we rarely manage to offload the kids with someone, which is generally once every couple of months, we like to do something different and funThis place just dragged the life out of usNormally we have loads to talk about, love each other's company and have a good laugh. But somehow as we walked in we felt uncomfortable straight away. The food was bog standard and boring. You hit the countryside to try the local stuff, home grown veg and even a cow limping around the field wondering why she's only got three legs, but no, this place rates very high on the suckometerThe bar staff were uptight, unfriendly and generally heads up their own trumpetThe only two things I enjoyed was the cream cheese broccoli and cauliflower mix and the end of the night in leaving.Normally we can go out and spend a good few hours eating, drinking, chatting. But we was out of there in an hourNever, ever again

Four of us have now visited the Carrington Arms twice now and on each occasion the food has been excellent !Mine Host was most accommodating and nothing was too much trouble, we were on a Groupon deal for Steak and wine on this visit, but one of our party asked if they could have an alternative and this was agreed without any problems. The wine selection was exactly what we wanted to compliment the meal, so we had a fab night, which really was sort of expected, as our first visit was equally as good.I cannot rate the manager and establishment high enough. We will definitely return again and again,

Four of us went for a meal at the Carrington Arms. There was a mix up with our Groupon deal but the bar manager was fantastic in helping us and making sure that we had a great night. The steak was huge, thick and cooked to perfection! Plenty of sides too. The wine was a great choice too. We don't normally do desert but were tempted by the chocolate cheesecake - thank goodness we did: it was devine!! Really pleased we went there and will defiantly go back again.

We visited on saturday evening June 7th on a voucher for a 3 course meal. The staff were very attentive and friendly and no rush for us to be seated as soon as we arrived. We sat outside in the sunshine enjoying our drinks which were included and they changed my husbands wine for a beer. Our starters included fresh Cromer crab that was delivered that morning and smoked Haddock in a brandy & cream sauce, just heaven ! Mains were Beef & ale pie and sea bass with plenty of varied veg. We chose Lemon roulade & chocolate cheesecake for desert and we were well and truly stuffed.. The food was outstanding and we are looking forward to a return visit in the near future. Well done to all the staff on what was a really busy evening but our thanks go to Dave the chef for a wonderful gourmet meal..Richard & Julie J.

We went for a 3 course meal to this pub/restaurant on a voucher deal. Before we went we had a look at reviews of the place. One was not a good review at all... so pleased we didn't take any notice of that one, as we were greeted by very friendly, helpful staff and we had one of the best pub meals we have ever had.The food is cooked to order and tastes wonderful. The portions are very generous, we both had to leave some of our main course so we would be able to eat our dessert!! My partner is vegetarian and they made a meal up for her as she didn't like the vegetarian option on the menu. The voucher included a glass of wine each but as I was driving they changed mine for a soft drink with no bother. We would highly recommend this place, it has nice friendly service, excellent food and is in nice surroundings. All in all it was a great meal and we would go again, even without the voucher deal the prices are not too expensive. Please don't take any notice of negative reviews, we found it to be very good, especially the food which was excellent.

My friend and I went here for lunch last week. When we walked in straight the way you could tell it was a very clicky place, they all stared at us, it was quite uncomfortable. The staff behind the bar just carried on staring at us until i asked if they were serving food..not a good first impression. We just had a couple of the cobs which were delicious and a couple of drinks in the restaurant area which was nice. I wouldn't return to this pub simply because we felt very uncomfortable as though we weren't welcome.

Went here with a Group On voucher. Sometimes this can mean a luke warm reception, but not here. The waitress was friendly and helpful and prepared to alter the terms to suit us (e.g. beer and soft drink instead of wine). This is essentially a one bar village pub with an eating area off leading to a partly closed off dining room. The decor is traditional with some interesting history of the village and its patrons on the walls. We sat at a table in the 'eating area', which was fine on a mid week evening, but if we were to go back at a weekend I would try and book into the dining room as I suspect it could get noisy if the bar filled up. The food was excellent, well cooked and served hot on warm plates (always a good sign I think). I had soup, rack of lamb and apple crumble. My wife had pate, grilled chicken and apple crumble. All excellent. The menu is not extensive, but with enough variety and we were told the fish is delivered fresh daily. If you're not local you might need a Sat Nav to find Ashby Folville, but if you're passing it's well worth the effort.

We went to the Carington arms after buying a groupon voucher for a 3 course meal. The waitress could not have been more helpful and pleasant. The 4 members of our party all enjoyed the food we ordered, the smoked haddock starter was a real treat! Slightly disappointed that there was not much of a choice on the deserts, 3 to choose from, (crumble, roulade and a cheesecake) but they were a very nice finish to the meal. Great pub lunch, with very attentive service.

We have now eaten at The Carington Arms in Ashby Folville a couple of times for both lunch and dinner, I have to say on both occasions the quality of food was brilliant; everything is home made. It is a lovely unpretentious country pub in a beautiful village. The staff/proprietors were warm and welcoming and the service was excellent. We like pubs that offer restaurant quality food and that’s exactly what we have experienced to date at the Carington. It has a good choice of beers and decent well-priced wine. The food is very good; it is of good quality, excellent value and nicely presented by a pleasant team. Let’s be clear, The Carington Arms is not “The Grill at The Dorchester” or “The Fat Duck” nor does it pretend to be; but for a Leicestershire pub offering a varied menu, excellent value for money and good quality The Carington Arms is well worth a visit. We will certainly be going back.

We were actually here for a Wake. I have been here several times and found it to be a very friendly little pub. The staff had put together a reasonably versatile buffet for the Wake, too much white bread, but that's personal choice. The lemon drizzle cake was outstanding. I was pleased that the barmaid suggested that the surplus food should be taken to the bar to be shared rather than wasted.
