Came here for a wake. The staff were great, friendly and professional in the circumstances, striking the right balance for the occasion, helping to lighten the mood. They put on a very good spread of food as a buffet. The range of drinks on the bar was good and all well kept. There is a lovely outside area with picnic tables just across the road - no play area as such but children were able to play here. The pub was well kept too - clean and tidy. I'm sure I will be back there.

Amazing country pub. As a leader of a walking group, it's so hard to find a pub, that truly welcomes walker's. It's been lovely working with the land lady Eleanor and we all look forward to our lunch break in a few weeks time. Also, when we did the recci for the 2alk, the whole pub was decorated for Halloween, even the outdoor seating area across the road was not forgotten about. Marvelous.

Ever-so-slightly disappointed. We checked out the menu before booking this restaurant, sadly, the hand typed menu offered to us was in no way a reflection of what was offered on the web site. The food that we ordered was ok - I would even go as far as to say the sea bream was lovely. The steak however was a cheap cut and very chewy. Unfortunately, sirloin was the best that was on offer on the revised menu and I’m a fillet fan. The wine choices were cut back to the extreme from what was offered on the wine menu, although the Argentinian Melbec was delicious. This place seems to have cut back considerably on previous menus, it is such a lovely quaint pub with good beers, let’s hope it manages to rise back up to where it seems to have been pre Covid.

What a great find this was and one of the best Sunday roasts we’ve tasted in a long time! We chose from a set menu with a good choice for the 3 courses. The tempura prawns were delicious and so were the garlic mushrooms. The Topside beef was so tasty and tender and plenty of it too. The accompanying vegetables were cooked to perfection , the roast potatoes possibly the best ever and there was yummy Yorkshire pudding. We chose the treacle and almond tart and the Bailey’s cheesecake for dessert, both delicious and especially the tart! It must be the best value for money Sunday lunch in the area and the service was first rate. It was well patronised and no wonder, looking forward to returning soon.

Lovely friendly country pub with cosy and chilled atmosphere. Went here on the eat out to help out scheme and it was fantastic. Brilliant menu with ample choice despite the pandemic. We had two starters, two mains and one dessert. Pate and pork belly, tasty and fresh good portion sizes. I then had rack of lamb and was a bit dubious about the honey and mint sauce combination but it was delicious, lamb cooked perfectly pink how I like, and portion size again very generous, all mains served with 4 types of potato and fresh veg. My mum had the cod and said it was amazing and cooked perfectly with lovely flavours, looked like a very meaty cod fillet! She then had the Panna cotta for dessert and said this was light and tasty. Lovely service also throughout, definitely will return. Thoroughly enjoyable night!

Cosy village pub. Very small with a 'real ale' feel, that is to say mercifully immune to current bistro style trends. I dare say not to everybody's liking but it is charasmatic and charming. I understand from a close friend that the landlord is of fine character, and certainly everybody appeared to be friends with him and vice versa. There was an easy going mutuality which felt very appropriate for a public house. Furthermore I am told that he keeps the beer very well indeed. We went on a Friday evening when the drinks were flowing and the vibe was lively without being rowdy. There was a core range and a selection of guest beer. In summary very enjoyable and the formula is that mysterious 'just right' village pub. Well done Richard.

Every now and then you come across an eating hostelry where you can guarantee that you are going to enjoy your meal no matter what you choose.. They serve really good food in a pleasant way and with a nice attitude. They are never going to set the place alight with fine dining but serve quality meals at reasonable prices across the menu especially the fish and chicken dishes which are well priced and are served with a good selection of vegetables together with three types of potatoes. (roast, chipped & one other.) A dessert for £3.50 is also good value these days and a nice selection is offered. Always a place that's safe to return to.

Visited this delightful village pub once again with friends and once again we were not disappointed.A warm friendly greeting awaited us and we were immediately shown to our table, and handed menues for both food and drinks. The choice on both menues is extensive and we believe reasonably priced. On the night, after delicious starters, we chose from a selection of lamb, chicken and pork dishes, each beautifully cooked and served, with an ample array of fresh country vegetables and a selection of potatoes. Puddings too were most tempting and delicious. This country pub stands out from many others, because of three simple rules. 1.. Be friendly to all guests 2...ensure they are served delicious food and 3 ensure they are happy with their meal.THANKYOU to all at the Cock Inn. We will return

Visited this place to eat with friends. Excellent choice of food on menu. My friend and I ordered the chicken tikka starter, it was at best Luke warm. The two members of staff were nowhere to be found. After we had finished our starter the young waitress appeared and asked if our starter was ok. We replied it was cold. She just starred at us blankly and proceeded to clear the plates and walk off. No acknowledgement to our statement. We let it go. Then the mains arrived; 2 surf and turf steaks, a mixed grill, pork dish, accompanying vegetables including new potatoes, roast potatoes, chips & dauphinois potatoes. It all appeared very apetising but both steaks were tepid, the dauphinois potatoes were cold as were the new potatoes. We were paying good money and the least you'd expect is that the food would be hot. Again we were approached by another lady who asked if our food was ok. I said actually it wasn't, the steak is cold as was the starter which we did point out to your waitress. The face this woman pulled, a face of contempt and disbelief! I said if you don't believe me then try some which she refused. She clearly wasn't accepting that the food was cold and reluctantly took my partners steak away and said they would put it back on the grill but it would probably end up overcooked. She took the medley of potato dishes away then came back for my steak. I was that disgusted with her attitude, I said just leave it. THE WORST WAS YET TO COME. I saw a member of kitchen staff, i presume the chef, come to the serving area and look over at our table then he disappeard back into the kitchen. I wonder if this establishment realises that what is discussed in the kitchen area can be clearly heard from the gents toilets? WE DO NOT GO AROUND TRYING TO GET DISCOUNTS OR FREE FOOD BY COMPLAINING, AND DO NOT DO THIS ALL THE TIME! HOW DARE YOU! Dispite our very unfortunate choice of places to eat, and a very disillusioned staff or owner who clearly cannot accept any criticism and feel they are above everyone else and how dismal we were treated, we remained courteous, polite and paid our bill in FULL. AT NO POINT DID WE ASK FOR A REFUND OR EXPECTED ONE. SO NO, OUR INTENTION WAS NOT A FREE MEAL TICKET. OUR INTENTION WAS TO HAVE A NICE 'HOT' MEAL! Absolutely disgusted and will never return. Remember your customer is king. If a customer says something isn't quite right, dont pull a face, dont argue, dont make the situation awkward, just try to put it right AND DONT GOSSIP ABOUT YOUR CUSTOMERS IN THE KITCHEN

I visited Stapleford Park with a family group - my wife, son and girlfriend and my father-in law and his wife. We wanted to celebrate my son’s girlfriend’s birthday with a special occasion visit because, being Australian, she relished the idea of doing something typically English. The venue itself is undoubtedly impressive, but the afternoon tea experience was very disappointing. On arrival there was no proper welcome from any member of staff engaged in afternoon tea service. We were shown to our table and given a briefing from a senior staff member. After this, the level of service was virtually non-existent. Nobody asked whether everything was OK, whether more or any different teas were required. Amazingly, for this type of event, only one type of tea per person was offered. The sandwiches were unappetising, and cakes decidedly unimpressive. My father-in-law who is 98 went to the bar to settle the bill, and it was only a few days later that he showed us he’d been charged 6 x £41, plus a service charge of £30. He wasn’t told about the service charge when paying. We were outraged at the underhand way this charge had been levied, and also the fact that there was no relationship between the charge and the poor service we had received. The service charge was later refunded following a phone call by my wife. There are obvious signs of weak management and poor staff training here. Avoid if you’re looking for a more rewarding experience.

Call me a leprechaun and get me a pot because ive found gold. What a pub! Every village pub has its uniquity but this one has knocked them out the park. Inside a stunning building is one of the friendliest places ive been to. The staff (Chloe in particular) were so welcoming they made mother Teresa look like Pol Pot. I have no doubt this pub has been around for 2 millenia, because if jesus was to have a ‘last supper’ it mustve been here. The chefs worked a miracle in that kitchen. If my girlfriend wasnt there to tell me off for bad manners i wouldve licked the plate clean. Every local to Waltham on the Wolds should feel privileged to have this at your doorstep. Bloody brilliant
