Call me a leprechaun and get me a pot because ive found gold. What a pub! Every village pub has its uniquity but this one has knocked them out the park. Inside a stunning building is one of the friendliest places ive been to. The staff (Chloe in particular) were so welcoming they made mother Teresa look like Pol Pot. I have no doubt this pub has been around for 2 millenia, because if jesus was to have a ‘last supper’ it mustve been here. The chefs worked a miracle in that kitchen. If my girlfriend wasnt there to tell me off for bad manners i wouldve licked the plate clean. Every local to Waltham on the Wolds should feel privileged to have this at your doorstep. Bloody brilliant

4 of us had a great Sunday lunch today, 2 pork, 1 turkey, 1 beef, excellent we all thoroughly enjoyed... Deserts were apple crumble pie, baileys cheesecake and brownie with salted caramel sauce. We shall return very soon, impressed by the price too... 1 course just under £13, 2 course just under £16 I think... Good value for around here

Been here many times for pie night, over the last 4-5 yrs and it's always been great! Today they catered for my gluten free vegetarian friend and it was delicious, so thank you 😊. Highly recommend, nice to have a pub serving good home cooked food for a change. Atmosphere is always so welcoming and so many regulars is a real tell sign of a good pub and there are plenty of regulars. Super dog friendly too! Thabk you again for catering for our needs. Great pub in a very pretty village. I pre-booked but was no need as quite empty. Warm welcome. I chose gammon, egg and chips. Everything was beautifully cooked but the gammon was all fat and hardly any edible meat. The chips were the best I’ve had in many years. I had the warm chocolate fudge cake for dessert. Good portion but not warm and very thin cream. I have given this 4 stars simply for the welcome and the lovely Sophie who was lovely company, professional and attentive. I would go back but would choose something else

Absolutely amazing experience! We stopped off on the way back from a day out and so glad we did. The lady who served us couldn't do enough, had everything we needed and asked us if there was anything else plenty of times. It was early afternoon so was very quiet in the lounge area and gave off very cute village vibes, the atmosphere on a summers day was gorgeous. The food was amaaazing (defo recommend the burgers and chips) and was like proper pub cooked food. Massive pots of tea, good portion of food. Genuinely a lovely place - if it was closer to where we lived we'd be coming back more often but unfortunately all I can do is tell you that you should go.

A bit of a gem really set in beautiful countryside.

This is a decent pub which is good for a pint. The service is friendly enough and you feel welcomed. I haven't eaten here for a while so I haven't reviewed but it looks unfussy with decent portions.

Old pretty pub - Well worth a visit! We visited for the first time and enjoyed a glass of real ale sat by the lovely fire 😊

I was staying locally with my 10yr old daughter. We were really looking forward to a lovely meal having driven 3 hrs, the table had been booked a few days earlier. We turned up to find that we could barely get through the door because the pub appeared to be hosting some sort of party. It was packed with people who clearly had been drinking for hours. Tables were over flowing with empty glasses with absolutely no where for us to sit. My daughter was terrified being sardined in what resembled a drinking venue at 11pm rather than a country pub/restaurant at 7pm and begged me to leave. Very disappointed that we could have been contacted as I had left my number and we could then have made other arrangements (which ended up being a trip to Tesco 😞)

We found this place on an internet search for a place to meet friends. The Royal Horseshoes turned out to be a great find. We were impressed with the friendly host who catered for all our needs and requests. The food was excellent and arrived beautifully presented and very timely considering that the place got very busy. A really good sign for a weekday lunchtime.

First visit here with friends and food was good. Service was good and friendly staff

Extremely disappointed. We went in between Christmas and New year, there was a sign on the wall mentioning 'Christmas menu'. We didn't see it and ended up with 3 burgers and a Scampi. The staff didn't seem interested and we had to ask for things rather than be offered. We were crowded trying to eat with people right behind us stood at the bar. Paid £130.00 on 4 average at best meals and drinks. I wouldn't recommend and definitely wouldn't want to return

What a lovely friendly historical coaching Inn. Place had a really lovely ambience, spotlessly clean, no sticky tables or floors here. Had a really delicious great value lunch. Menu had something for everyone. Owner & staff were all really friendly and very patient with my rather rambunctious over friendly labrador. Will definitely be back.

The service and the food was excellent. The only problem we had was a couple with a small baby decide ot was okay to change the babies nappy in the restaurant when people were eating 😡

As usual for lunch, did not expect anything would be different from the usual pub fayre. However, despite there being only one other occupied table in the lounge area we were provided wiith a reasonable menu choice and everything was explained to us. I had something simple being ham, eggs chips and peas and my colleague had the salmon fillet dish. These were both delivered with fresh ingredients, superbly cooked and presented, the cutlery was stylish and of decent quality. We will definitely visit again when attending business in Melton Mowbray.

This was a refreshing find. Warm and welcoming with a very nice atmosphere. Landlord very interesting to talk too, waitress attentive and very helpful. The menu had a good range of choices. It arrived quite quickly and both meals were well presented but perfectly cooked. It was a very enjoyable evening 🙂

Awful food, awful service, no one came over to ask how’s things was waited half an hour to ask if we would like another drink that then took another 30 mins to arrive, quickest thing on the night was asking for the bill that came straightaway

Stopped off by chance for lunch and was amazed by how lovely this place is, staff, service and food just totally lush.. Will be going back maybe even a stay over

What a lovely welcoming pub with a great team! Food was absolutely amazing. We had a weekend away and ended up eating here for breakfast, lunch and dinner for the whole weekend. First time visit. Food was amazing

Ate here on a Saturday night as we were glamping nearby. Received a warm, friendly welcome and our food order was taken quickly. We waited about 35 mins for it to arrive but you can't rush quality and boy....was it good. My chicken, bacon and avocado salad and my husband's gammon and chips were both huge, beautifully cooked and presented and the house wine was excellent. At a total of just under £50 it was superb value and we would thoroughly recommend this lovely old inn

Ordered a salad but was served only lettuce peppers and tomatoes. No other salad ingredients. Cost £11.50.such poor value for money. No atmosphere at all Beautiful building.

The service was painfully slow. Maybe they were short of staff as there was only one young man on front of house. He didn't seem to be in a rush to get anywhere fast either!! The food was OK. Fair price.

We have just been to the Royal Horseshoes for Sunday lunch. I couldn't fault it but I think the gravy and roast potatoes deserve a special mention. The roast potatoes were nice and crispy on the outside and light and fluffy in the middle and the gravy was just full of flavour. I would recommend this place.

A lovely old pub, full of character with a good range of cask and zero alcohol beers. The staff very friendly and helpful, and the food was simply amazing. We had a lovely evening, thank you.

Called in for lunch on our way to Yorkshire. Warm welcome, not too busy. Bought drinks and ordered food. Service quick and friendly. Pie (turkey, cranberry & stuffing), chips, vegetables & gravy was absolutely delicious, cooked to perfection. Cannot fault any aspect of our visit & would thoroughly recommend stopping here for lunch.

Our first visit here and really enjoyed it. Lovely old building so lots of atmosphere.Service was quick, friendly and very helpful. The food was also of a very good standard.Looked very inviting and tasted just as good. Although I travelled twenty miles to meet a friend here...I will definitely visit again.

Fab village pub. Lovely staff!

After a party in the village hall we had booked all four rooms. The rooms were well appointed and spotless. We had the continental breakfast which was absolutely amazing and the staff could not have been better. The lunchtime meal was of an equal standard. This is a little gem of a pub which we shall certainly visit again.

Really amazing little gem to find for Father's Day! Had the three course set menu, so much to choose from and everything was presented beautifully. All three courses were cooked to perfection and a proper amount on the plate. Waiter/waitresses were quick and pleasant. Coming back for sure.

Gorgeous pub, landlord & staff amazing. We try and go as often as possible. All food is fresh, loads of choice and excellent.

Great food however be happy to relax in this lovely pub for an hour before your main arrives, which actually was no hardship.

This was our first visit and I can honestly say we’ll definitely return. Freshly made food, we both had variously filled chibatas & an excellent choice of beers. The service was warm and friendly and the price very reasonable. This is a proper old English pub and does exactly what it says on the tin

An old fashioned pub with soul is hard to find these days and this place has it in buckets. Warm, friendly, impeccable service and INCREDIBLE food. Very high quality. We stayed at a local campsite but will return just to sample the steak and chips or Sunday roast again, for sure

My friends stayed in the pub for one night and were charged £90 to sleep in a unclean room, with no heating, no hot water, a power cut and a dirty toilet!!!! Terrible customer service from bar staff when told about the problems with the room, offered no apology or compensation of any kind. Do not stay at this pub!

We had a family Sunday lunch. The food was delicious and hot. The service is first class and we also had our 2 x four legged dogs with us.

Enjoyed a fabulous meal here. I think it is quite a hub in the area as it got really busy. massive long bar with tables in both rooms. I thoroughly enjoyed it as you don't see many pubs like this now.

We had such a lovely visit here! Nipped in earlier in the day for a drink and the landlord (sorry I didn’t get your name!) was so welcoming and friendly. We wanted to watch the football later in the evening and he reserved us a table right next to the TV. Came back that evening for food and it was divine! Felt so welcome as visitors from outside the area. Great value for money. Would definitely like to come back again!

Beautiful old village pub which is clearly well maintained. Very friendly staff who made us feel very welcome. The menu was small but had good variety and a few good veggie options for us. The veggie burger was delicious and a really good portion size. Great value for money too. I would highly recommend here if you’re in the area.

Stayed in bnb. Place was small but lovely, adequate for what we needed. Hospitality by staff and land lord was really nice. We learnt a lot of history about the building. Definitely would stay there again. Rates were very reasonable. I asked for vegetarian breakfast which was something they would accommodate. Very happy with the service. Gave 4/5 as there is always something to aim for.

Called in on the off chance while out for a drive. Wonderful food, lovely staff, nice clean beautiful old pub. Can't wait for a return visit. Well worth a detour.

Went to this pub for meals whilst staying at FairFarm Hideaways. The staff were extremely friendly and helpful especially Frankie. The food was lovely, hot and wholesome. Dog friendly as well. Would definitely recommend going there.

We visited the pub for my mum's birthday today (4 adults, 2 children) and really enjoyed it. All if the staff were lovely and they let me take a birthday cake in earlier in the day. The food was fantastic. 3 out of 6 of us are vegetarian and we had the veggie burger with chips, and a children's pizza with chips. The others had fish and chips, and the salmon. Every one of us really enjoyed the food. We'll definitely eat there again.

Called without booking yesterday for Sunday lunch. Both pork and beef was had by our party of 4 and were nice and tender. Plenty of fresh veg and a large Yorkshire pudding. Both hot and cold desserts were had and 4 clean plates as they were so good. Would definitely recommend

Dropped in on our way from Loughborough to Grantham for Sunday lunch and we were both very impressed. 3 courses all of which were excellent, particularly the veggie options of which there were plenty. Not on our usual circuit but we will keep in mind in future as a top alternative when we fancy a change

Really lovely homely pub, friendly staff. We are staying locally for a few days and there are not a lot of places open on a Monday, but we called here and they had availability. It was Pie day. Lovely choices to choose from. Piping hot, my partner had the steak and ale pie and I had Mediterranean veg with goats cheese. Both really nice and huge portions.

Called here on our cycle ride to Stoke Rochford. This is a lovely spacious pub, well kept, nice atmosphere and with very friendly and helpful staff. Although the chip cob we wanted wasn't on the menu they were happy to make one up for us, and it had a mountain of chips which were cooked to perfection and very tasty. Definitely recommend a stop off if you are in the area.

Just nipped into this cosy little pub on the way through the village! Such friendly staff they are very welcoming. Compliments to the chef, we had the homemade soup and halloumi sandwich. The halloumi melted in your mouth. Our daughter had cheesy chips and I have never seen so much cheese on the chips before, they were really tasty. Recommend the lovely food. Will be back!

Very accommodating, great service and good service and good food at a reasonable price

Where do I start!!! What a fantastic, friendly and cosy pub. The staff always had a smile on their faces and some wore masks, couldn't fault them. The food, oh my god, we had steak and it just melted in your mouth. Everything was home made. We had a lemon tart for pud, that was mouth watering an cleansed your pallet. We booked our table in advance which is highly recommended. We told them that one of our guests had an intolerance to wheat and they made him a wheat free sticky toffee pudding, that was beautiful and you couldn't tell, infact it was far more superior than any I have tasted. FANTASTIC!!!!!

We went to Gin & tapas night, wow the food is amazing. Gin's complement the food so well with fantastic flavours. An absolutely excellent night out with a fantastic atmosphere!!

On Friday lunchtime 10th December a large number of Melton Ramblers had their Christmas lunch here. There was a wide range of meals, starters and pudds; All were served efficiently by very professional staff who couldn't do enough for us. Oh yes the food was really nice too. Thank you The Royal Horseshoes Inn.

Pie night always delicious along with a good range of beers. Some interesting themed cuisine nights on Wednesdays as well which we must try.

This was the third time we had eaten at this pub after we recently moving to the area. The first was a Wednesday lunch time and we waited 1 hour and 10 minutes for our food to arrive. There were only two tables occupied so...

Menu is good with options to suit most tastes, priced reasonably and tastes great. Had lunch here with the family on a Saturday, did not leave hungry and everyone enjoyed the food. Will definitely return soon👍
