Had a beautiful Sunday lunch this afternoon. The pork with orange and fennel sauce was a culinary delight, I tried to get the recipe but alas it's a trade secret. Will definitely return to try other dishes.

One of our favourite places to go to as we’ve always had a great evening meal but decided to try Sunday lunch and just Wow !! , I can honestly say it was one of the best Sunday roasts I’ve ever tasted , the flavours in the food were amazing and the beef was cooked beautifully. The crumble and custard were delicious too . Always a great atmosphere in this cosy pub and the service and attentiveness is always spot on .

Absolutley wonderful ......again.. This is our second visit to this exceptional restaurant and we were not dissapointed . We enjoyed an incredible Sunday lunch. I had the chicken dish and my husband and our guest chose the roast beef. They both commented that it is the best roast beef they have ever eaten ! We travelled up from Chichester, Visiting relatives and staying locally in Oakham we chose here due to my sister’s recommendation. Gratefully they had squeezed our table in last minute, and it was perfect, we sat in the window and the decor and hospitality were faultless. Due to our fault we arrived with 2 less children and one less adult and they were gracious and understanding. It was a big birthday and I was hoping that we had chose well as the friend we were meeting had travelled from Stratford-upon-Avon. And we weren’t disappointed, the roast beef and and the sticky pigs were gorgeous, The Rose Champagne was perfect (I meant to get the details) everyone left happy and impressed!. We will be back next time we are visiting.

Outstanding!!! An impromptu visit for a late Saturday lunch. We had a warm and genuine welcome and were shown to our cosy table with a large open fire roaring in the bar area. We were immediately served drinks and given a menu and shown the specials board. Our meals arrived and they were incredible as were the deserts ,wine and coffee .Home cooked ,and so delicious. This chef can cook ..!! We immediately booked again and will be enjoying further visits to this beautiful ,genuine, country pub .. we done team !!

We visited this delightful pub after hearing about it from local villagers who gave it rave reviews. We were not disappointed. From the friendly response we received when making a last minute telephone booking, to the warm, friendly welcome that greeted us upon our arrival. This was followed by exquisite food, all served within a charming, cosy atmosphere. We shall definitely be visiting this establishment again.

I called in here for a quick pint after walking around Borough Hill Iron Age Hill Fort. It was everything I wanted of a country pub. A log fire , lots of atmosphere and very friendly staff. Highly recommended and I shall be back. Food looked good too. Next time.

Almost don't want to post this to give the secret away, but Christmas here was quite simply a phenomenal experience. Food was outrageously good, atmosphere was amazing and service was top tier. I could not recommend this place high enough. Made for the best ever Christmas Day. Thank you so much.

Great food, friendly staff, solid pints

We had a table for 4 today and had a wonderful experience. The food was excellent with a great variety of options on offer. All 4 of us said it was the best roast dinner we’d had in a very long time! The manager, Sam was a brilliant host! He had a smile on his face and was so welcoming from the moment we walked in. He made our experience very relaxed and easy going. We will 100% be returning to the Fox & Hounds very soon. Definitely worth a visit!!

Just had an unbelievable roast at the Fox & Hounds - such a friendly and welcoming team and a gorgeous cosy pub atmosphere. My gluten free dietary was no problem for them to accommodate, and the roast pork belly was seriously the best I’ve ever had. We had such a lovely time with friends and we all commented on how we couldn’t wait to go back. Special mention to Sam the manager who was extremely attentive and friendly, as well as every other member of staff who served us, we’re really looking forward to a future visit. So reasonably priced too, we can’t fault it!

We are here last week. The food was appalling and so was the service. I wouldn't return, especially after finding out they host fox hunting meets there too. So out dated and uncalled for.

We had a great meal at the Fox and Hounds. The main courses were amazing and I heard other tables saying the same thing. Probably one of the best burgers I’ve had. The service from the gentlemen at bar and serving the tables too was really amazing. A cozy comfy restful place to have a fantastic lunch.

Had a fantastic Sunday lunch with friends today. Everything was perfect, fantastic food. We were all very impressed how attentive and kind the staff were. They're were some elderly customers there, after the meal the staff were helping them with their coats, hats and walking sticks, so nice to see in this day and age. We will definitely be back. Amazing.

Not only does this pub serve amazing food and drinks, the atmosphere is certainly comforting, the staff are really friendly, food is brought out very fast; and also tastes amazing.

It was our first visit for Sunday lunch. We met up with family and had a lovely meal. The food was cooked to perfection and tasted wonderful! The service was great, and people were very friendly. Sorry, I was late!

So we read the review with scepticism which stated this was the best roast dinner in the UK. However after having had the roast pork we can categorically agree that this was simply the best roast dinner we have ever had. The setting was also delightful. Defintely worth a visit.

This place had such good reviews I wanted to check it out - and I agree! Really friendly, and the food was fantastic - my only regret was having no space left for dessert!

We called in to the Fox and Hounds for lunch on a Saturday afternoon. We were greeted by very friendly staff and immediately felt at home and relaxed. We went for the burger with mushroom and lentils. Made with locally sourced minced beef it was simply delicious. We were able to complement the chef, another friendly member of staff! Highly recommended.

We are fairly new to the area and found the Fox and Hounds by chance. What a wonderful pub. I cannot remember a better night out. Fantastic food and wonderful happy staff. Thank you.

Last minute lunch booking. Set in a beautiful location and great pub food to match. We had the a la carte 2 courses with lovely choice of mains and recommend the chocolate fondant dessert. Would definitely go back with my family.

We booked here for our mums 70th birthday and they opened for lunch. The food (for 14 people) was exceptional, from the freshly baked bread to the delicious main courses. wine, coffee and atmosphere, everything was faultless. They catered for our small children and dietary requirements too and were the most welcoming hosts. Thank you Fox and Hounds, you made our mums day! We will be back very soon

Great, quaint pub. Warm welcome from Sam and the team. Small and traditionally decorated with a very warm and cosy feel. Nice menu with some variety away from standard pub menus, more restaurant in feel. Food was of a very high quality and tasty. We went twice in the week, second time for Sunday roast and it was the best roast pork we have ever had in a pub in uk. All the trimmings, top yorkshire pud and cauliflower cheese. Good selection of bar drinks and extensive wine list. Wish it was our local. Make sure you book, it gets busy. Nice beer garden too.

My husband and I decided to try for a table last minute at the Fox and hounds as we hadn’t been for a while and had always previously had great food , well we were not disappointed, our food was delicious. My husband had 3 courses and I had two (although I did pinch some of his starter as it was so tasty) , the flavours in the food were amazing . The service was excellent from the polite gentleman who took my call on reservation to greeting us on arrival , all the staff were pleasant and friendly . The ambiance and lovely background music all add to the oldy worldy feel of a traditional quaint English pub . The menu had some wonderful choices which makes it hard to choose as there were so many we would have selected . But I went for the chicken and my husband the monkfish both wonderful .Will definitely return very soon .

Very pleasant and a good roast!

Lovely pub and location and very friendly. The menu was good and food beautifully prepared and served. Personally we go for a bit more garlic, herbs, olive oil and tomato with our food, but that's just our own taste. Exceptionally good coffee.

It was an ok lunch but I do think you should get veg with meal , it should not be extra for cauliflower cheese . I had one piece of broccoli ( uncooked! Two tiny florets of cauliflower and two slithers of parsnip and same of carrot , 3 roast potatoes which were very pale . Not good enough for a Sunday lunch I expect a bowl or dish of veg ? I said nothing as I was. a guest but had I been paying I would not have accepted it ,

I found this pub on google after googling the best place to eat in Rutland. We arrived early and were instantly welcomed by I presume the landlord, he shook our hands, guided us to a table by the open fire, absolutely amazing!! The food was 1st class, the whole experience was magnificent and we will definitely almost definitely be returning. PERFECT.

What a wonderful place to spend an evening. From the warm greeting as we walked through the door to the excellent food we received! We were made to feel so welcome and nothing was too much trouble. The food was excellent and the wine went down beautifully but to be honest it was the cosy beautiful warmth that radiated from the place & the people who served us that really made the evening so lovely for us. Fabulous food, lovely setting, great staff! What more can I ask for! We wish we lived nearer to visit more often.

Fabulous place. Just the sort of pub/eating house I love. No straight walls, quirky, lots of history. Great ambience. Service is good, very attentive. Food was lovely, my salmon was overcooked, but the rest was delicious. Going back before the new year 😁

We came across this little gem by accident. We originally wanted to eat at Gates Garden Centre but it was too busy and came across The Fox & Hound by chance and boy am I glad we did! We have had a lot of bad experiences when it comes to popping into somewhere new so was a little unsure but the guy who runs the pub (sorry I'm terrible with names) was so friendly and nothing was too much trouble. We went in for lunch and cannot fault anything! The serve was great, food was amazing (everything came out hot) and never felt rushed at any point. I had the Pork Chop and I didn't want it to end, it was that good. My children were with us at the time and they were amazing with them. They wanted pasta so they cooked them pasta! We enjoyed it so much that we have been back with friends for dinner and the service and food was just as amazing! This time I had the Duck Breast and it did not disappoint. We will definitely be gong back again!

I can only give this place top rating on all elements. Its a traditional pub and really quaint. The welcome was warm and homely. The menu was reassuringly Sunday lunch but with a couple of dishes and vege, so a good selection for those not eating meat. The beef was pink (unless you didn't want pink like the table next to mine, no probs whatever you wanted it seemed!) the yorkie massive and fluffy and EVEN enough gravy! Desserts choice wide and portion sizes that made me shed a tear to have to leave some. Service was relaxed and attentive but not rushed. Perfect all round treat! A small place so bookings essential

There wasn’t a dish on the menu that didn’t tempt me. Opted for a baked Camembert followed by a delicious short rib of beef with a fantastic glass of Rioja. Service was excellent and very quick. We had a fantastic meal at this quaint and charming pub and we will definitely return thank you.

A lovely Sunday dinner and attentive hosts

We as a family were looking forward to dine at the Fox and Hounds as we have always enjoyed our previous meals there which have been to a high standard. This time was different. I ordered chicken as did my wife which was over cooked. I called over the head of house who offered to exchange it for another choice from the menu which I accepted. The service was on the slow side. There were no specials on the menu. One of the wall lights opposite to where I was sitting was out and needed replacing. A small detail but that’s what good management should look out for. All in all I felt the experience was not up to expectations.

Not enough available parking outside the pub or elsewhere in the village contrary to what an earlier reviewer said. The pub carpark is a sandy pitch enough only for 3 cars. Apparently the beer garden at the back is quite spacious which is an ironic twist to the parking problem, so I'm amazed that the pub should do well with passing trade. Surely it would have made sense to have bought a field off a local farmer to accommodate more customers.

Booked for sunday lunch today. The cold starters that required no preparation, took 3/4 hour to arrive. Ordered PINK roast beef. It arrived cut very thick & very overcooked. Consequently I abandoned trying to finish it. The roast potatoes were cut small, so they too were overcooked & tough. My wifes fish & the sauce tasted of absolutely nothing. A customer on the next table sent back his lunch as the vegetables were cold. He said the replacements were also cold. Based on this experience we will not be returning as it would appear the cook cant supply a half decent simple roast beef dinner, tasty fish or warm veg. All in all the food, the service & the interior is shambolic.

Lovely place, clean and tidy. Fantastic food and value for money. Has a spacious outside seating area which is newly done and well put together. Staff are very attentive and the manager Rangel looked after us extremely well. Would definitely return and recommend.

We went for a first meal here, its an old fashioned pub from the outside and interior design but don't let that put you off, as the food being served and service is absolutely first class. We started with the brie and bread for two which was very very good, perfect. I had the lamp served on crushed potatoes which was very tasty and my wife the cod. Both meals were proper size food and non of this little portion stuff. We had desserts as well, my wife had the Pannal cota and I had the crumble. We thoroughly enjoyed ourselves and will be back.

Just got back from a wonderful Sunday lunch today. All of the staff were lovely and the food and drink was fantastic. All 5 of us had a variety of choices from the Sunday lunch menu and every course was of an exceptional standard. This place is a ‘hidden gem’ in the Leicestershire countryside.

Table booked for 7.30pm, food was served at 9.10 pm! Half hour wait for dessert menu as they only had 1 copy. Water and waitress cuddling at the bar. More interested in each other than the customers. Food however was good.

I can only say without any doubt that this was the very best Sunday lunch at a pub that I've ever experienced. Starter superb, roast beef with so many delicious veg and horseradish were delicious and the bread and butter pudding with raspberries and white chocolate was just to die for. Well done everyone and compliments to the chef and very efficient and polite staff. You have become my favourite pub to eat in and I will definitely be coming back. I'd recommend you to everyone and it's thoroughly deserved.
