Feel pretty upset and let down with our experience here after weeks of looking forward to it for my birthday and travelling an hour to get here. We booked the afternoon tea - I’m a vegetarian and my partner isn’t so I didn’t book the vegetarian option on the basis that I thought there’d be a selection of sandwiches to cover both meat and non-meat options. Unfortunately, of the 6 sandwiches provided, only 1 was vegetarian so I was only able to eat 1 small sandwich. I think the menu also needs to be amended as it isn’t at all clear that the afternoon tea is £36 per person. I can take responsibility for not double checking this before booking however I assumed this price would cover the 2 of us as £72 for afternoon tea for 2 people is absolutely insane to me. It was a nasty shock when we went to pay at the end, particularly as I didn’t really feel at all satisfied or full up with what I’d eaten. We found a couple of the staff a little rude and abrupt also. On a positive note, the restaurant is beautiful and has a lovely cosy feel. Sorry to leave a negative review, I don’t like to do that I just feel really upset and like it ruined my birthday a little.

Lovely place for a drink. Great service with friendly staff. Would highly recommend for drinks. Didn't try the food.

We'd walked up to Black Rocks from Cromford and we were looking forward to a coffee at Badger barister - the black rocks cafe in the car park. It wasn't to be. The Cafe was closed. A large message on the door said that they were closed for the winter and would be open again in 2024. Apparently not. As it was a Sunday, we carried on along the trail to the Steeple Grange Light Railway just a few minutes walk. There we had hot drinks and some dolightful biscuits.

We arrived after a long journey and wanted to find a pub with good food, a friendly atmosphere and dog friendly. We hadn’t booked, but the red lion found us a table and were very welcoming & friendly. The pub was busy, being a bank holiday and the atmosphere was warm. Music was soft in the background playing led zeppelin & Simon & Garfunkel. There were guitars by the fireplace and games dotted about to enjoy and a dog curled up in the bar- we instantly felt at home. The menu contained all the classics but everything from the shortcrust pastry of the pie to the curry of the day to the chutney accompanying the cheese were home made. The food was outstanding and plentiful- no wonder it was so busy. The pub is family run and you can tell that this is their labour of love. I would urge anyone in the area to visit- but book a table- you wouldn’t want to miss out!

Absolutely lovely food, we had 2 burgers with bbq pulled pork and some halloumi as a starter instead of a small plate. My husband had the sticky toffee pudding which he said was delicious less than £50 for all that food excluding drinks which were actually resonably priced for Bakewell area. Me and my husband were very impressed. The atmosphere was laid back but professional. We felt very comfortable here.

We called in for lunch after a 3 mile walk with our dog around the Chatsworth estate. The quality is there to see from the moment you walk through the door. Attentive bar service, a perfect pint of Chatsworth Gold, excellent wine list (including dessert wine by the glass) and quality food backed up by fantastic and friendly service from Nieve, a fellow dog lover who is a credit both to herself and the organisation. Will definitely be coming back.
