This was our first visit and certainly won’t be our last! We were greeted very warmly at the bar and then shown to our table. Two of us had a pie and another fish and chips and we all thoroughly enjoyed our meals. The pie was perfect! It was full of meat in a tasty pastry. Usually I find the vegetables in a restaurant to be so hit and miss but the carrots I think were the best I’ve had.. they were so deliciously roasted and the mash great too. We also had desserts which were equally brilliant too. The service was super friendly throughout. At times, after we’d had our mains, it was a little slow but there only appeared to be two members of staff who were serving in a busy bar as well as the restaurant. We didn’t mind this either as it gave us chance to chat and also not be too full for dessert! Thank you for a fab meal!

A really nice pub with some very good food at fair prices. The menu was great; I think we would have been happy with each and every one of the dishes. In the end, we had the belly pork, halibut, and chicken, mushroom and pancetta pie, all of which were very nice. Thank you.

Absolutely delicious food! I went for an evening meal with no expectations as we were staying in the area. Between us we had Fish & Chips, Pie, Rump of Lamb & a Lamb Fricassee and it was all incredibly yummy. We would all highly recommend.

We had the most amazing meal here after visiting the area on holiday. The pub has a lovely welcoming atmosphere and the staff are so friendly and offer great hospitality and service. The food was absolutely delicious!! We eat at many pubs around the area and this was by far the best! The food was well presented and incredible taste. Hats off to the chef! Amazing!

Three of us called in for lunch yesterday, we received a nice welcome and we were fortunate enough to get a table with a view over the countryside. Being lamb lovers all three of us chose the lamb rump which was cooked to perfection. Staff were attentive and very friendly.

We came after a lovely day walking nearby to eat dinner & stay over as a pub stopover in the camper van. Spacious car park with a few other vans staying too. Great views with dinner, good menu choices & we had a burger, and a steak meal- generous portions, tasty & steak perfectly cooked to my preference. Staff fabulously accommodating & helpful when we realised we’d forgotten a crucial piece of camping kit.

We viewed the menu online before booking to ensure there was something on the menu that the entire party would enjoy. Unfortunately, as found out later, the menu online was the December menu and subsequently 8 months old (visiting in August). I thought the menu being served was quite limited in its offering compared to the one we saw online. We had to wait 50 minutes for our food after ordering it with no update on how long it would take and no apology once it arrived. Dining at 7.30 I didn’t think there would be such a long wait time and were not told of one when ordering. The pasta was bland in its favour and the sausage & mash came with ‘caramelised’ carrots which were ridiculously sweet and not enjoyable. The fish and chips were actually very good, the fish tasted very fresh which I have found to be rare in pubs so that was very nice. The bar was well stocked with good range of drinks. Both our waiter and an older guy who may have been a landlord (I’m not sure??) were actually lovely and can’t be faulted, they were hospitable, friendly and very welcoming of our dog. I just wish we had been updated on why the food took so long. (I have seen previous reviews where the owner/staff argue back with negative reviews which comes across as unprofessional and nasty so would appreciate you not doing that)

Stay 3 nights Bed & Breakfast , room lovely and bed very comfortable. Continental breakfast was provided in the room which suited us very well. All rooms are on the first floor access by stairs only. We dined in for our stay & meals were lovely well cooked & presented , beer & wine excellent. All the staff were welcoming & friendly service with a smile, nothing was too much trouble. This is a dog friendly pub , but did notice they dine with their owners in another room . Would definitely recommend the location very near Chatsworth & surrounding area

We had a really delicious meal here, and it was excellent value. We shared a starter, my husband had the halibut, I had the steak and ale pie. Both so good! The pie crust was amazing and crisp, the filling so tasty. Had Sauvignon Blanc - very good wine. The waiter service from Isaac was outstanding. Liked that families with young children were in a different section of the restaurant.

Couple's weekend away in the Peak District. Friday night dinner. What a lovely place. Has to be five stars because it simply does exactly what it promises extremely well. Great location with decent views, friendly service from the owners, and very well executed food. All in a happy atmosphere. The pies are excellent as advertised and my partner loved her pork. Short but smart wine list. Absolutely excellent and thoroughly recommended. We'll be back for sure.

After an horrible experience at a pub not to far from here, ( no names but it has a fox in it), we come across this gem of a pub, fantastic staff, lovely atmosphere, the food was amazing, we all had fish and chips, was probably the best we've had. Can't praise the whole meal enough, unfortunately we're home tomorrow otherwise would have come again, but no doubt we will be back at some point, thank you all at derwentwater for an enjoyable evening which was much appreciated by my partner as its her 50th tomorrow, as for the puddings wow, and you must try the sons ice cream

Stayed here for two nights for a weekend away after hubby had to be in the area on business on a Friday. Stayed in ‘Baslow Edge’ which was warm and cosy with a comfortable bed and a modern en suite shower room. Breakfast was continental placed in the bedroom with juice, yoghurt, fruit and croissant with butter and jam. Plenty of beverage supplies with a refresh station on the landing. And bottled water too. Ate in the restaurant both nights. First night I had one of Tom’s pies - beef and horseradish and hubby had the fried. chicken - we shared a Bakewell pudding for desert. Food was amazing. Saturday evening we shared a starter of mushroom and macaroni bites with the most tasty blue cheese sauce. Hubby had the toad in the hole with venison sausage and I had the small haddock and chips. Again - a most excellent meal. On the recommendation of the staff we took a walk on Baslow Edge and thoroughly enjoyed the view of Chatsworth in the distance. Also visited Eyam, Derwent Water and Buxton. We are considering a move to the area and will definitely stay here again on any house hunting trips. Thank you.

We came here due to the good reviews and we not let down, staying in Baslow so only 5 mins drive. We were shown to our table by our very pleasant young girl, we shared camembert between the 3 of us which was really nice. Our mains consisted of a haggis and chicken pie and my wife had steak pie which came with creamy mash and fantastic root vegetables, these were "proper pies" a pie comes with a crust on the bottom not meat in a dish with a slice of pastry on the top. Our daughter had a turkey Sunday roast with all the trimmings, even though she is a fussy eater she demolished the lot, great meal and the 2 young girls who served us were a breathe of fresh air. We will return.

This hotel let itself down by its appalling customer service by the introduced owner "Tom". We arrived to a freezing cold room with the radiators off. It took a good hour to get to warm up. We made a coffee and to our surprise (and horror) the coffee was that old it had congealed and crystallised into what looked more reminiscent of a chemistry set ingredient (see pictures). This was the same on the self-serve counter in the hall. The shower didn't work properly and was impossible to use. It cycled red hot to freezing cold every 20-seconds. This was all fixable and would have avoided this negative review but here's what happened next: In the morning I politely, (and it WAS politely), reported the issues to "Tom". His immediate response was this: "You booked through Booking.com so you need to take it up with them and if you post a negative review we will contest it." In fairness, the coffee was later refreshed and the checkout lady the following day was delightful and for this reason you are getting a second star but I certainly won't be returning, you failed to deliver the advertised supply and your customer service is diabolical.

Planned to stay a couple of nights to coincide with a visit to Chatsworth House. Our room was first class, very warm and had the usual extras like tea and coffee. We booked the restaurant for evening meals and the food was excellent. On our 1st night I ordered the chefs steak and ale pie and it was to die for - just great after a long days slog round Chatsworth. Breakfast was a good hearty English feed which was just one of several breakfast choices. The staff were friendly and attentive and made the service special. Overall we would highly recommend this Inn to any visitor to the area..

Staying not so far away, we were looking for somewhere to lunch, so we called in to see what was on offer. There seemed to be plenty of options on the menu, and we were looking for a lite lunch, so we opted for the sandwiches. I went for the 6 qoujon sandwich with salad, and my wife went for the pork and apple sandwich with salad. Both were very good and tasty. We enjoyed it that much and with the good menu we came back in the evening. This time, I decided to try one of the pies on offer, which came with mashed potatoes (chips could be ordered) and vegetables. My wife went for the fish and chips. Again, both were excellent. The young staff were very friendly and efficient. Its position is off the main road, but in plain site

Visited in September 2023 our room was Cubar Edge which is the largest of 3 on offer. Cosy, comfortable and lovely views but we spent little time there as due to the fantastic location there are so many places to visit snd so many walks to undertake that you just want to head out into and appreciate the beauty of the Peak District. Kat and Tom were perfect hosts and their Staff a credit to them. The selection and quality of food(and drinks) on offer was absolutely wonderful and you know you’ve made the right decision when you see so many local residents using and returning to the restaurant and bars on a regular basis. Overall we had a wonderful stay at the Derwentwater Arms and would recommend it without hesitation. Advice re Rooms. Whilst Access to all three rooms is gained via a stairway at the rear of the venue If you are thinking of booking the Curbar Edge Room - as lovely as it is - it is located at the highest point of the property and access is gained via a further very steep set of stairs so for guests having any mobility issues my advice would be opt for one of the other rooms which I’m sure will be equally well appointed but would prove much more accessible.

I’d overlooked writing this review which is why I can’t remember exactly what I had to eat, other than some kind of salad, on my last visit here. However, what I can remember is this… my salad was rubbish and my friend’s hot roast pork sandwich was just ‘alright’ and didn’t have a massive amount of pork in the sandwich. To clarify why my salad was ‘rubbish’, there was a ridiculously massive pile of mixed salad leaves that drowned everything else (I recall joking to my friend at the time that I must have been given a kilo of leaves!) and, because the food was presented in a dish, it was difficult to find other salad ingredients, of which there was a paucity. I did mention the large amount of leaves, most of which were uneaten, to the serving staff but didn’t really get any response. This visit followed on from a previous visit that hadn’t been the best either. On that occasion, the pair of us had ordered sausage and we both commented on the taste, which I can only describe as different, as well as the texture which was unusual and very crumbly. When this was mentioned to the staff member who served us, we were told that the sausages are made to a special recipe for Derwentwater Arms. My friend and I have been visiting Derwentwater Arms for quite a long time now because Calver roughly lies at a halfway point for us. However, we’ve not been back since ‘the leaves’ visit and I’m not sure if we will go back in the foreseeable future.

Good dinner on a Friday night. Very popular with all tables booked, but the staff coped very well. We had a couple of the individual Steak and Ale Pies with chips and lashings of white wine. Pizzas seemed a popular option too and there was...

We booked for a lunch earlier this month. It was our second visit. It was great. We sat inside by the window on one of the hottest days this year. The doors were slightly open so there was a nice breeze. Staff were friendly and...

Friendly staff and good food discovered in this super pub - my son definitely enjoyed his homemade pizza! Lovely to see all of the restaurant tables were taken with other diners which made for a great atmosphere.

We have visited a few times and always lovely, love this area of the peaks with many favourite food stops including Foolow & Hurdlow. Todays lunch was fabulous, the menu sums the food up in a fairly simple manor, then the food arrives and speaks...

This is not Michelin or five-star pub/restaurant/accommodation, it is an excellent traditional British pub/B&B with good food, superb selection of beers, and clean comfortable accommodation. Run by Kat and Tom - Kat is an absolute machine – amazingly efficient, so friendly. Never stops, but manages...

Moved to the area almost 2 years ago but hadn’t really visited the Derwent water arms apart from the odd pint outside. Recently however we have visited in the evening to eat a couple of times. Love it! Nicely decorated inside and polite friendly staff!...

We stayed here for 2 nights. The room was very clean and comfortable. The only thing I can find fault with was it was very cramped to sit on the toilet in the ensuite and the water pressure was a little low. Neither of these...

Booked in advance which was wise. Food was home cooked, not particularly refined in terms of presentation, stodgy and plenty of it but lacked a bit of flavour. Fair prices given todays cost of good, although the starters were over priced. Staff friendly, comfy seats...

Always a real pleasure to be back in Winster and partake of the hospitality of Old Bowling Green. Charming, relaxing and traditional with welcoming staff and very dog friendly. We enjoyed tasty basket meals (served Friday/Saturday), drinks and chit-chat. A lovely pub in a lovely village.

Very disappointing. We’ve visited here many times over past 10 years. Booked for two nights as we know how good it is and how booked up it gets. Really surprised to walk in to see mostly empty tables, one member of staff on shift trying to do everything and pub generally unclean. Tables not cleared, no welcome despite our booking - just told to sit wherever. There was an issue at another table which didn’t appear to be handled well, all seemed very tense and unprofessional. Quality of food has declined and portions small to average. Such a shame, needless to say we’ve cancelled our second booking and will head to the wheatsheaf where it’s a quality experience all around

We had enjoyed meals here previously but the quality has plummeted. Two of us ordered the fishcakes which were deep fried with no evidence that they contained any fish at all. Cheap, overcooked fishcakes and undercooked, limp frozen skinny chips. One of the worst meals I have ever been served. We were also seated in the 'function room' which was cold & scruffy.

Chips were hot held for too long prior to serving resulting in mushy chips, fish had soggy batter and was not pleasant. Pie was overdone and microwaved resulting in inedible pie. Service from one member of staff was great however the other staff were eating food whilst serving and talking about personal matters. Needs work and improvement, constructive criticism. I am a chef and was disappointed.
