We had been here for a while because we thought the service and food had deteriorated. Decided to give it a whirl again today and it’s very good. Reasonable prices with great quality food and the staff are lovely. I had the eggs Benedict and my better half had the pancakes, both were excellent. All the food coming out of the kitchen looked very good.

me and my mother came here to celebrate her birthday. We ordered two drinks and two cakes. The food took almost an hour to come even after we reminded them of our order 4 times and had to promt them to hurry. The scones were very dry even with the exorbitant amount of butter we lattered in it. They also got my order wrong forgetting to put cream a flake and mashmellows in my item depite being reminded 4 times of our order. The staff were friendly enough . Unfortunately we won't return.

We sat waiting for an hour before asking staff when the basic order of drinks and cheese scones would come, then had to remind staff of order a couple of times then the dryest scone of my life appeared as well. We had waited so long I expected something nice my daughter's milkshake arrived without the flake or cream I paid for - will not go back!

Hi , just a quick one , i came with my family , the place looked nice but so so disappointing , we ordered 2 jacket spuds one prawn and one cheese-beans , and the little one got chicken nuggets , turns out the prawns were bland , both spuds cold , i ordered a burger and the inside was raw , and the chicken nuggets gave her food poisoning , this place should be shut down .

Looked like a nice calm place , but wow this didn’t prove . we had ordered 2 jacket potatoes ( one prawn and one cheese bean ) , for me the signature burger , and for the little one chicken nuggets . My burger was presented amazing , but it tasted bland and was raw in the middle , the potatoes were cold and bland prawns , and the little ones chicken nuggets gave her food poisoning for a day or two . Visiting the area for the first time and spotted a lovely building lite up on Friday evening, they were running a special event - Regional Italian dishes. Walked in with no bookings, but were quickly accommodated and made to feel welcome. The Carbonara was the most authentic I've had for a long while and the beef pappardelle was perfectly cooked pasta with a rich pulled beef sauce...seriously good! Service was relaxing and loads of great Italian cocktails and wine on offer. GUTTED we wont be around for the next event! Came back the next day for Brunch! One generous Full English later and poached eggs and avo and we we're well set for exploring the town. Back for a cheeky coffee on Sunday....may or may not have had smoked salmon and buttery scrambled eggs ( BTW all the bread is baked onsite by their baker!) My only grip was the chairs are a little uncomfortable but the cushions help!

Atmos: seems like sitting in church, tables for 3 are on a small side. Food: average, nothing special. We went for an Italian night and we felt quite underwhelmed, especially for the £££. Price: very steep for what you get. Recommendation: don't go unless you like less-than-average food for lots of money

I visited Jack Rabbits today (for the last time unfortunately) with a group of friends and our young children, all aged between 2-4. Upon arrival, we were shown to a large table and we placed an order for brunch items, coffees, items from the children's menu etc. We collected high chairs for our children in this supposedly "family-friendly cafe". Around half an hour after arriving, a waitress pulled one member of the group to one side to inform her that other customers had complained about our children's behaviour, the noise they were making and the fact that they weren't sitting in their chairs for the duration of the visit. At this point, I would like to highlight that the behaviour of our children was that of what you'd expect from a toddler. They were chatting and socialising with one another and naturally wanted to have a wander around to explore their environment. At no point did we let them encroach on other occupied tables or cause any noise levels beyond that reasonable of a group of small children in a public environment. Therefore it was very disappointing that the waitress (Jane) had felt the need to victimise us as a group of young mothers and instead defend a couple who had walked into the cafe after us and still proceeded to take a table knowing full well they would be eating in close proximity to a group of small children. Jane made direct judgements towards my friend's child (staring at him, tutting under her breath) and when we questioned if there was a further problem we were told that we should've come more prepared with things to entertain our children so they didn't move from the table and that her children/grandchildren would never behave in such a way. Well I'm sorry to say that we no longer live in an age of 'children should be seen and not heard' so Jack Rabbits would do well to give a particular member of staff some training on this draconian attitude. Do not be fooled by the children's menu, high chairs, changing facilities. This is not an establishment where young children or indeed their parents are made to feel welcome. Take your custom to one of the other family friendly cafes in Ashbourne instead as we shall be doing in future.

Horendous ! Made to feel very uncomfortable because we had children! IWe visited Jack Rabbits today as a group of 4 mums with our 5 children - 4, 2 year olds and 1 , 4 year old. The children were being extremely well behaved, of course chatting away to each other however there was no screaming or shouting from any of them. The waitress ,Jane , felt the need to say to one us that our children needed to be kept quiet and that other customers couldn't hear themselves talk. We were shocked by this but ofcoruse wanting everyone to enjoy their lunch we made sure the children stayed in their seats and begrudgingly let them watch our phones as we now felt they must be silent - extremely sad as they were all enjoying socialising with the other children and this made us feel really uncomfortable. Unfortunately with the children now silent and settled it didn't stop here. Jane again felt the need to quickly clear our table, taking drinks that we were not finished with and a full pot of tea - this was returned when asked for. One of the children then got out of his seat and walked over to an empty table and stood behind a chair, Jane again felt the need to stand, stare at him, tutted and muttered under her breath. At this point we asked Jane if their was another probem, she stated again that customers couldn't hear themselves talk , we repeated that our children were now not even talking to each other and were actually silent, making the customers in the cafe more noisy than them. She said she couldn't understand why we had taken offense - which is a concern in itself and said we should have bought something to entertain the children with and went on to inform us that her children and her grandchildren would certainly never behave like this. The conversation continued and we were made to feel that uncomfortable we left! Extremely disappointing from what we thought would be a family friendly and child friendly Cafe. Unfortunately other customers felt the need to ask if we were OK and were obviously shocked by the waitresses actions. We will certainly never be returning and would highly recommend other people with young children do not go here. I would like to add that the young waitress on shift was apologetic and very polite! She was a pleasure and a lovely staff member.

Once a culinary delight sadly taken over by people not knowledgeable about food. They still do the basics well, who couldn't, for ghe full English & sarnie lovers but the flare has gone out of the food, basic food, basic presentation. If you ask for bacon & pancakes, that's what you get on a plate no extras, garnish or that 'je ne sais quoi' you get from real foodies, presentation also basic - it's those lovely details that makes an experience in the added extras, decor & service that make it a wholly enjoyable experience. The new owner's & most staff seem to have no idea of this & just plonk food on a plate on a table. Hence why it's empty a lot of the time. I've found lovely alternatives in Ashbourne who understand these details &, basically, the hospitality industry hence you have to book at some of them they're so busy.

I returned here after I learned it was recently under new ownership having historically always loved he cafe. Sad to say that I second a recent reviewer on the fish sandwich. My bread was completely stale and cold as though it had just finished defrosting. The fish fingers were tasteless, the lettuce bruised and at a shocking price of 8.50. I was able to get a refund and the staff were polite and friendly compared to how they have been in the last year, so it seems the waiting service has improved somewhat. Overall though, I'm very disappointed and dont feel able to return again. This is the 3rd time I've now had stale bread so have given this place lots of chances. Take note folks this is not the place it used to be. Having visited Jack Rabbits in Ashbourne over the years we have always been very satisfied with the service, cleanliness and quality of food. Today's experience has changed that! First warning was a significantly reduced menu- minus favourites. Food ordered ,and after over 30mins no drinks or food . Ok it happens , but we had to remind them and had we'd clearly been forgotten. Then the food arrived .... what a disappointment. Fish finger sandwich ordered for £8.50. What arrived was a dried out roll with couple sprigs of lettuce. 3 bite sized bits inside of different shapes- not convinced that all were fish as one looked like a chicken nugget! No cucumber and no tartare as advertised. The hot beef roll was equally unappetising- beef cold and roll toasted( probably to hide fact it was stale). Beef gristly and veiny. Needless to say both meals not eaten and refund requested. Lady who served was polite and apologised, but still a poor show overall. Sad to say we will have to find a new eatery. Experience not helped by copy of far right paper 'the light" in rack- likely to cause offence to many!!!

Then they never brought the drinks over, then they brought too many drinks over. My daughters milkshake was awful and warm, so we sent back (I never do this, but was really bad!). Glass of water they gave us was warm, food nowhere near to the standard it used to be. We left almost laughing at how ridiculous it all was. Now although this might be a bit harsh, I cannot, in good faith, rate the food. They state there is a gluten free option (gfo on menu), however as I'm very careful with my coeliac condition I always ask as well. Order taken, then a couple of minutes later a staff member approached & explained that although they will clean the toaster down, it's the same one used for normal bread. Therefore I decided to cxl the order. The reasoning was two fold. 1 - I didn't want to risk it 2 - I didn't want to put them to all the hassle of cleaning everything down just for a toastie (I used to work in catering lol). That was, to me where the staff were extremely helpful & polite. My friends I was with loved they're food 🤷🏼♂️🤦🏼♂️😂.

It was underwhelming. Should be better for the price you're paying. Visited on a Sunday afternoon, and it was not too busy. It was easy to find a table. The service was very slow (15 minutes for coffee + orange juice, 30 minutes for the food). I ordered a curry/ Dahl dish which came out cold. I had to take it back and ask for them to warm it up. The dish was pretty bland. We also ordered the vegan breakfast which was pretty simplistic - couple of vegan sausages, 1 mushroom, half a tomato, hash brown, beans and two slices of very dry toast - would it be so hard to add some vegan spread and maybe some spinach? Try a bit harder! For around £10 per dish, I was expecting better. Its just a shame - they have such a nice location but the food is below average. Edible food but don't expect to be blown away.

We have visited Jack Rabbits in Ashbourne fairly regularly over the years, mainly for a brunch when in town shopping. I have previously scored Jack Rabbits a 5 but following recent visits I need to change that too a 3 stars. Quality of ingredients and standards of service have dropped, we both had Full English breakfasts and the bacon was fatty, sausages tasteless and the eggs snotty. With an increasing amount of new places opening in Ashbourne Jack Rabbits need to raise its game to where it was about 2 years ago.

I dislike giving poor reviews, but I am being generous with the two stars to be honest. We were advised that it would be a 20-25 minute wait, but it was close to 1pm when we arrived and although not full, it was busy so we accepted that. After over 50 minutes & the table behind us being served first, despite being seated after us, I had to ask how long it would be & it was around another 10 minutes before the food came. The chips were nice & hot, the toasted cheese sandwich luke warm & the muffin with eggs benedict was very chewy, one poached egg was solid & barely warm & the other very under-cooked. It wasn't cheap - but what is these days? On the positive side, the staff were lovely, very apologetic & busy & we were given another drink while we waited. The venue is nice, clean & welcoming to dogs & kids. I can only presume they were under-staffed in the kitchen as there seemed to be plenty of front of house staff. A real pity but on our experience today I wouldn't recommend. Local regulars may have different views.

Main issue was the 45+ minute wait for food. Service was fine but you could tell they struggled with the Sunday brunch customers. They gave us free cake and coffee to apologise for the wait. The portions were quite small so seemed quite expensive for what we got (even for midlands prices!) and the pancakes came out brown and bacon like cardboard. Was alright for a spontaneous Sunday brunch but nothing spectacular.

I was expecting more from this place given some of the great reviews. -Staff are lovely but their service could be sharper. -It took at least half an hour for our table to be cleared when we had clearly finished eating. And the place wasn’t even busy (four tables maybe). It was only when I moved the empty plates to an unoccupied table that they were moved some 5-10 minutes later. - The ‘poached’ egg was virtually hard boiled. - The slice of cake that I took away was dry and flavourless and was binned after one bite. - The chocolate brownie was however very nice. -The coffee was nice too. All a shame really as it is a great location with easy access and a separate disabled toilet. Happy to give it another try in a few months time, but standards currently hit and miss with room for improvement.

We visited Jack Rabbits as a family, my 8 year old son is autistic and has an eating disorder due to his sensory needs, the staff were very accommodating for him and made him is usual “ safe meal”. Any business who caters for hidden disabilities is worth its weight in gold and Jack Rabbits proved this. The bread for my tuna melt Toastie and my husbands fish finger sandwich was to die for! It had to be home made. I would highly recommend Jack Rabbits, it’s clean, welcoming and the staff are friendly and it caters for hidden disabilities.

Apparently Jack Rabbits had new owners in May ….the new team that run the Greenman? My scrambled eggs and smoked salmon was very good in fact all the food coming out looked great. The menu is really interesting with a point of difference and good value. Not eaten here for a while but will comeback.

Very very disappointed!! One of our group had toast and prawns- cold! Two of our group had breakfast rolls- both cold and poorly cooked!! One of our group had poached eggs (3 times, 1st eggs overcooked, 2nd eggs very undercooked and 3rd ok) This place should seriously question the cooks ability!!

Really poor service today. Food was not bought out for an hour, no apology then no potato cakes and chutney with Dahl had to ask, staff seemed clueless and not interested in helping. Reluctantly said she would go to the Green man to find out!! They arrived and it was all pretty tastless

Previously found eating here excellent. However will not be returning after today. Ordered two items from brunch menu, both served on toast. Food not hot. Toast unbelievably rock hard and not edible. Staff apologised and agreed it was not good. However, an explaination of 'we...

Came in on bank holiday Monday, awful place, avoid at al costs. We both had avo and egg on toast with halloumi, it was a dry piece of toast with chopped avocado, overcooked poached egg and oily fried halloumi, no flavour or effort in the slightest. I wouldn’t mind if it was priced as a basic meal, but at £11 each portion it’s a joke. The place was chaotic, no one seemingly in charge, just people doing stuff. It’s a shame as the place looks great, such wasted potential

I visited Jack Rabbits a few times over a year or so. Food has been consistently good but the service has been consistently bad to mediocre. On this occasion 50 percent of the staff were wonderful and upbeat but the other was glum enough to help me make the decision not to return.

Nice coffee and food cheerfully served. They had ran out of wraps but did a deconstructed chicken "wrap" which the teenager we had with us loved, thank you!

The food was dreadful and expensive. Can’t say it any plainer. Schnitzel was burnt and poorly presented. Pasted was soggy. The very worst was the waffles which had been microwaved and were solid! Just the two us for a birthday meal with one drink each and it cost £91!

Superb Al fresco breakfast in a lovely courtyard right in the heart of this ancient historic village. Quality of ingredients was superb, the tea was delicious and the environment was delightful. I would heartily recommend
