Had to wait an hour for food even though we pre ordered, people who just turned up were put ahead of us. No one to welcome, stood for 5 minutes being ignored by barstaff who looked miserable. Food passible, though lacking in veg. Not much of an atmosphere, I wouldn't go again. Perhaps we had a bad day. Adding to my review, Robin Hood just replied stating we were late, we weren't late at all, booked in for 1.30pm I was there at 1.20pm with my daughter and grandson, we stood for 5 minutes waiting for someone to notice us, when they did come out it was to ask if we needed the toilet. I gave the party information so they knew we were there, I was told there had been a rush on, so we sat and waited an hour. Put rating down a star as I am not having them blame us.

Having been here twice before and enjoyed the vegetarian roast, I was really looking forward to our visit today. Unfortunately the food really was a let down. The vegetarian roast was sold to me as glazed aubergine, coated in pumpkin seeds and oats but I was served 2 slices of aubergine with chillies on the top. There were no roast potatoes or stuffing as advertised and the 2 miniscule pieces of parsnip and carrot were pointless. My partners roast beef dinner portion was also underwhelming. I'm not sure what has happened to the Sunday lunch but it really seems to have gone downhill. Service was good as always but I don't think we'll back for Sunday lunch.

Was there 2 and a half hours for lunch. Despite a reserved table and preordered food, it took half an hour before drinks were served and over an hour and half before food was served. Table wasn't cleared after lunch for over half an hour. Maybe they were short staffed, but we were not really offered much of an apology. Food was good though.

I ordered the steak sandwich which was lovely and tender but the sourdough had barely been shown the toaster. Anyway it was nice enough and I thought nothing more of it until later at home when I looked online at the menu again. The actual meal I ordered was a steak and onion sandwich but I realised afterwards that there were no onions in what I'd eaten but oddly there had been a slice of cheese. Not what I had seemingly ordered but a lesson to me to take more notice of what's served up. It won't stop me from revisiting though as the food is good quality otherwise.

Called in here after seeing that it serves coffee and cake. After entering the pub we noticed some very comfortable chairs next to a roaring log fire. After ordering coffee and getting comfortable we decided, as it was now lunchtime, instead of cake we would have a sandwich. We ordered a ploughman's sandwich served with fries and coleslaw. We enjoyed everything and would definitely return.

Parked in the car park next door to do a walk, thinking we would eat the Robin Hood afterwards. Arrived back at 6.20pm, went to the pub and bought a couple of drinks. “Are you eating with us?” “Yes, please.” “I’ll set up a tab and bring you over a menu.” Background conversation. “Oh, sorry, no more food.” Needless to say, drank up quickly and left No explanation about why there was no more food, even though people with booked tables arrived to eat while we there. We hadn’t booked, so if we had been told it wasn’t possible to eat straight away that would have been better. It was having our hopes raised, only to be told there was “no more food” that leads to this rating.

Four of us, & three dogs, visited on a Friday lunchtime on our way up to the Peak District. We booked in advance, which was just as well because it was very busy with walkers. The service was excellent & the range & quality of the food & drink was excellent. The warm salmon salad was delicious & servings were substantial. The only downside was the two hour parking limit which would be a problem if you wanted a decent walk before or after your lunch. Fortunately there’s a National Trust car park next door. Would recommend.

Awful experience, over an hour and 20 mins for 4 meals (2 salads, 2 kids fish & chips!). Salads arrived 1 without eggs and the other with a raw egg. Waiting staff were apologetic but should have informed us of the wait when we arrived, especially as we had 2 small children, but clearly they choose not to as they would rather off a discount and still take £50 of our money. Avoid like the plague.

We had a lovely meal on Saturday 21st September. My daughter found it on Google after a walk on Baslow edge. Goggling dog friendly and gluten free pubs. What a find. We sat on a table which had a padded little edge our dog snuggled up, and he was given a bowl of water(next time we will be ordering him his own beef steak burger) We are a family of 4. We ordered a steak and ale pie which my daughter wolfed down, she said it was beautiful and she throughly enjoyed it. I ordered a gluten free steak burger, unfortunately the gluten free fryer was broken so I was unable to have chips, they checked with me what I wanted to do have a chips from the fryer which had batter in, or have new potatoes or mash. I choose the mash I could have eaten a plate of that alone it was yummy. The burger was lovely too. My husband and other daughter also ordered the steak burger with a portion of onion rings and both were very impressed. We checked to ensure the burger had no onion/garlic in and our dog certainly enjoyed his little offerings also. We also had puddings, I had gluten free sticky toffee pudding and asked for extra sauce and it is hands down the best I have had. My daughters shared the cheesecake which they said was amazing and my husband polished off his toffee and banana pudding. As we left we registered for a loyalty card 🙈 we will certainly be visiting this little gem of a find again.

Disappointing meals served. The menu on the website offers "Striploin of Beef" for £20.00. Last Sunday you were serving "Topside", a cheaper cut for the same selling price. one of the reasons for booking was the offer of striploin. Sadly all the main courses had a school meals look to them, very much thrown on the plate. The topside and the pork loin were tasteless and the pork over cooked and quite tough. The crackling was non existent. Our lunch was enjoyable for the company, and the staff were excellent, The food poor. The deserts were okay, the ice cream tasted very cheap. Given the reputation of the owner I would have expected far more,

A dire experience I'm afraid. Ordered walnut, beetroot and feta starter but instead of walnuts the chef had imaginatively substituted sweet honeycomb! They do look a little similar i suppose. I had ordered steak burger for main , my partner the steak and fries. Just about the worst burger I've ever tasted ( and I've eaten a lot). The steak would have been more use to a cobbler. Soggy chips and 2 day old coleslaw accompanied .We both ate a small amount and gave the rest to our delighted dogs. Walked back up Gardoms Edge hungry and feeling ripped off. Actually sent an email to the pub when we got home but they haven't bothered to reply. I can think of much better ways to waste 40 quid. We waited over an hour for that to make it worse

We have driven past this Inn many times in the past and the carpark has always been full so we haven’t stopped off, today we had been to Chatsworth and went past and the carpark was pretty much empty so we turned around and went back to try it. First impressions lovely interior, small but set out really well and cosy. We ordered food from the menu which doesn’t have a lot of choice on it then we waited ages, there was only us and one other couple in the restaurant side and we hadn’t ordered anything that would take a long time, finally the food turned up and it was absolutely shocking 😞for the price I was expecting gastro pub standard food. The kids margarita pizza was microwaved and like rubber I can see now why on week days they don’t charge for kids meals. I had a toastie which was cold and soggy the only good thing was the fries we found these quite nice. My husband had steak which was described on the menu as medium rare in a jus but it arrived well done chewy in what looked like a very watery gravy. The food was very poor and disappointing we will not be back it’s a shame as it’s a lovely looking pub in a scenic area

My partner and I have passed this place so many times and frequently said “let’s try there for lunch one day” “it’s supposed to be nice” she said. Well today was the day. It was a good day. The feel of the place was apparent immediately on entrance. Quite plain in a way, but with a certain charm which made us feel immediately comfortable. We were greeted at the bar by a warm and welcoming bar girl. That doesn’t seem a good enough title for the quality of her work. My partner is a vegan, she didn’t put that on her Tinder profile 🤷🏻‍♂️ !! Ha ha Seriously, they couldn’t have been lovelier and more accommodating with her. From ordering, we waited for quite a long time. Luckily we get along so we had a good laugh whilst waiting. I’d much rather wait than my food coming quickly, wether it’s true or not, it feels like they’re making food from scratch and not just warming things up. I love my steak and ale pies and when I found out they do one, it was my obvious choice. It’s my ’go-to’ in unknown places. Our food arrived about five minutes before I might start getting twitchy so we’re all ok. I was presented with an individual pie, probably about five inches in diameter , a nice dollop of mask and some green vegetables. Oh, and a little jug of gravy. My pie was well packed and the chunks of beef were tasty and tender. It was delicious, it was all delicious, the veg crispy and the mash mashy. My partner made such approving noises, I thought she’s as trying to re-enact ‘that’ scene from ‘When Harry Met Sally’ !! Our lovely waiter checked on us at one point and the next time he came back, our plates were clear. A very successful lunch to say the least. We’re both beautifully full with just a main meal. This isn’t your £10.99 a meal place. Expect an average of probably £16.00 for the mains. Forgive me, I can’t remember too much as I didn’t bother truly scrutinising it once I knew pie was on offer. I wasn’t expecting to write a review at this point. However, it’s worth it. We will both be coming back, the staff were just lovely and the food outstanding. I would have loved to have sat outside for a drink as it’s in a beautiful setting but sadly the manager couldn’t sort that one out for us. Well done guys, your work is top class !!

He calmly gave me help and advice whilst dipping in and out of my unfolding drama with the RAC. He didn't hesitate to get me onto the Wifi and then over the next 5 hours took every care to make sure I was getting good advice. He made phone calls to rescue and recovery services and helped me discover all the help that was available in such a rural area. I was increasingly scared and 150 miles from home, but Dave was a real strength in his calm way and made sure I was OK. He made no drama, or fuss, but never let me feel alone. FIVE hours of attention, and he would take no money for his kindness nor let me pay for drinks. No wonder everyone likes this pub!!

Four of us booked the Robin Hood, expecting it to be busy being a bank holiday Monday. Before going, we saw online that the menu is currently transitioning and please call us to discuss the current one. Anyway, when we got there, it was surprisingly quiet. We got seated, and menus were brought over, and our drinks orders were taken. I’d been told the steak burger was incredibly nice, so I was going to have that. The waiter came over with the drinks and asked if we were ready to order. One of us wanted a pie but were told that the oven is playing up and can’t have a pie, another of us asked for the steak burger but were told they were out of beef. Not sure why this wasn’t mentioned when we got the menus or even when we called to make the booking. Anyway, three of us had the fish and chips, and I had the lamb. It was alright, but I kind of regretted my choice after being told there was no beef. I did order some chunky chips with bacon bits and gravy on the side, these were really nice. For dessert, most of us had something different, although everything had nuts in it. So if you do have a nut allergy, you’re a bit screwed! I had some dark chocolate cake with ice cream, and my wife had a trifle. The dessert was pretty good. Sadly, for my first visit here, it was a bit of a letdown, although I would visit it again as I feel we didn’t get the best experience.

Perfect for hikers as there's several routes and climbs nearby, stop off for cyclists, motorbike & drivers touring. (We found a circular on All Trails up to Nelsons Monument). Lots of space inside and two patios. Recommendation pie 🥧 and lots of pints! Pie with chips or mash, veg and separate gravy £17 ish. Good size meal! This isn't a tourist trap place. A quick but satisfying meal after a local walk over the hills, rocks and through the woods. The restaurant has 2 free tables when we arrived and ordering was quick. We had a chance to enjoy some chat time before the food arrived and it was brilliant. We ordered two burgers, which were big and very well cooked, great chips and the pleasant surprise was how tasty the homemade coleslaw was. Will definitely visit again. The only thing I’ll mention as a negative is that the menu says 2 courses for £20 on selected dishes but when we ordered I found this was only for a starter and main, it didn’t cover our 2 burgers as these were both main courses. The menu didn’t say this clearly… or I missed it.

Whole experience was just .. meh .. not great or even good, just.. meh.. atmosphere was mundane, with no actual happy customer service, manager behind bar taking orders gave no feeling of being grateful for your custom. Ordered 3 Crispy Chicken Sandwiches .. and that's how I asked for the order.. what turned up was 3 x Fish Fingers Sandwiches. No idea HOW it happened. The waiter that brought them out to the table I think genuinely hated his own life.. not an ounce of care. When he came back out with the third plate we let him know we had been given the wrong food. Very quietly he replied table 70? And that 3 sandwiches. Yes correct but we did order chicken. So he said he'd talk to the manager. No one came, no one corrected the order. 40 minutes! Wait for the food, isn't acceptable and to be wrong AND to feel not welcome. We got told cold to care as we were outside, so we ate what we were given and went. Far too long for the service of a small pub to take the time they did. And to have no explanation or the manager approach showed the attitude of the pub. Don't think we'll return again.

Simon in particular was great, clearly a busy man but did everything he could to make the visit an enjoyable and relaxing one. Would highly recommend as the food is great.

We were her a couple of years ago and remembered it was 'okay'. Now have eaten two nights in a row whilst staying in the next door B&B. Not much in the way of stars for the external appearance or the atmosphere inside (very quiet). However, the food was excellent. Massive main courses. None of the 4 we tried were disappointing. As food goes, we have no quibles. Arrived with lowish expectations and they were far surpassed.

Birthday lunch for my daughter after a walk around Chatsworth. I’d had to ring to say we were running late due to a 4 miler turning into nearly 7 (we always get lost), they were very polite and accommodating. Lovely roast lunch with veggies cooked to perfection and the puddings were just awesome- Bakewell and Sticky Toffee. We had also taken a cake without the intention of eating it but they brought us plates and a knife to cut it and this was before we ordered dessert. A cozy pub, friendly staff, lovely food. What more do you want.

This is a nice pub, in a great location for walks and other outdoor activity. It serves good basic pub food and the beers are kept well. Unfortunately, whats missing is a warm welcome from the staff. Whatever happened to greeting customers when they walk into your pub and a freindly What can I get for you?? On our lunchtime visit there were 2 staff visible, both of which were disinterested and unfriendly throughout and the service reflected the attitude of Im doing you a favour and I dont really want to be here. Here is some constructive advice, if you're going to work in hospitality then be hospitable.. otherwise get a job elsewhere where you dont need to be pleasant to people and to the management, work on your staff recruitment and training. Its not hard and customers should be able to expect more in 2024.

Visited this place recently on my birthday. It was a Monday evening so the place was very quiet. We made a reservation for 8PM but bad to go early as we got a call saying the last order for food will be closed by 7PM. The service was good with friendly server. I am a vegetarian, so had limited options to choose. Overall had a pleasant experience.

Great place. We stayed in Robin hood cottage which gave us 10% discount on our food in Robin hood Inn. We ordered risotto and burger vegetarian only along with some local beer and wine. Risotto was good in taste. Burger was okay. Ambience is amazingly warm and gives the actual country side feel. Would love to visit again.

Loved it, all our food was excellent. Steak was so succulent, and vegan curry was amazing 'according to the wife'. Chicken nuggets were goated (so my son says) :)

Chips were hot held for too long prior to serving resulting in mushy chips, fish had soggy batter and was not pleasant. Pie was overdone and microwaved resulting in inedible pie. Service from one member of staff was great however the other staff were eating food whilst serving and talking about personal matters. Needs work and improvement, constructive criticism. I am a chef and was disappointed.

Very disappointing. We’ve visited here many times over past 10 years. Booked for two nights as we know how good it is and how booked up it gets. Really surprised to walk in to see mostly empty tables, one member of staff on shift trying to do everything and pub generally unclean. Tables not cleared, no welcome despite our booking - just told to sit wherever. There was an issue at another table which didn’t appear to be handled well, all seemed very tense and unprofessional. Quality of food has declined and portions small to average. Such a shame, needless to say we’ve cancelled our second booking and will head to the wheatsheaf where it’s a quality experience all around

Always a real pleasure to be back in Winster and partake of the hospitality of Old Bowling Green. Charming, relaxing and traditional with welcoming staff and very dog friendly. We enjoyed tasty basket meals (served Friday/Saturday), drinks and chit-chat. A lovely pub in a lovely village.

We had enjoyed meals here previously but the quality has plummeted. Two of us ordered the fishcakes which were deep fried with no evidence that they contained any fish at all. Cheap, overcooked fishcakes and undercooked, limp frozen skinny chips. One of the worst meals I have ever been served. We were also seated in the 'function room' which was cold & scruffy.
