We called in for lunch after a 3 mile walk with our dog around the Chatsworth estate. The quality is there to see from the moment you walk through the door. Attentive bar service, a perfect pint of Chatsworth Gold, excellent wine list (including dessert wine by the glass) and quality food backed up by fantastic and friendly service from Nieve, a fellow dog lover who is a credit both to herself and the organisation. Will definitely be coming back.

I recently stayed for 2 wonderful nights with my husband and our dog.. The room was beautiful complete with an extremely comfortable 4 poster bed. It was also exceptionally clean with lovely quality bath room products. We were booked in as bed and breakfast but chose to eat in their restaurants both evenings and we not disappointed. The bar is well stocked and the wine list also offered a good choice. Every member of staff were so accommodating, friendly, cheerful slightly chilled out in an endearing kind of way which made us feel totally at home and chilled out ourselves. Nothing was too much trouble for anyone. Our dog loved it too as she was made to feel welcome and fussed over a great deal! There was a great choice of breakfasts all allergies and food preferences catered for. We can recommend the Devonshire breakfast followed by a long walk. The menu for the evening dinners offers a good selection of choices and the food did not disappoint. They do not scrimp on the portion size which is why I didn't get to desserts. The small village of Pilsley is so quaint and pretty with many stunning walks. We chose a 6 mile walk, recommended by the manager, into Chatsworth which was really pretty. The hotel/restaurant is only a few hundred yards from the Chatsworth Farm shop which is well worth a visit if you are a foodie like us! I would recommend this hotel if you like the idea of a quaint, relaxing and tranquil village. I would stay here again. If you want more nightlife you might be better staying in Bakewell.

Stayed for a surprise anniversary treat booked by my husband with champagne on arrival in a lovely and quirky 4 poster bed. (Don’t book if you have mobility problems) but added to the experience for us. On arrival we received a superb friendly welcome. Good selection of gins at the bar. Had a 3 course meal with the highlight for me being the sticky toffee pudding. Especially when I received extra sauce. Breakfast was served by a young man who was super friendly and helpful-giving us advice on the local area. The granola was excellent and the crushed avocado on granary toast with a poached egg was just the job to set us off for a lovely day in Chatsworth. The only disappointment for us that given it was our anniversary we would have expected to be in the restaurant not sat at arguably the worst table in the establishment ( in the bar near the door) which became rather draughty. The helpful staff did close it when I asked if we could move to a table that had become vacant further in the bar. The ambience in the restaurant for breakfast was much more what aI had expected. Overall though a delightful stay. Looking forward to a return (as long as we can eat in the restaurant!

We just love this place for lunch. The new menu is excellent, even better than the last one, plus all the staff are so pleasant & helpful here. Our friends said the French onion soup was the best they’d ever tasted & my Hake dish was superb. The chocolate fondant was as good as in any expensive restaurant, but even the simplest of dishes such as rice pudding were elevated to new heights by the addition of stewed plums. I think they have the right balance between being a pub & a restaurant & I am looking forward to our next visit. It sounds like our friends who had never been before will also be back very soon.

Please don't go here if you're hungry, the Sunday Roast is a really small portion and ours was served luke warm. The floor around the tables in the restaurant needed a really good hoover, there were discarded bits of food everywhere. Also, please only go here if you really like dogs - the smell of dogs is really strong and quite off putting. All in all, really disappointed with our extremely poor Sunday Lunch; for £18 a head, we expected much more. Plenty of better choices in the area.

Visited for the weekend, paid for one of the farmhouse rooms as they're the only dog friendly rooms which were quite expensive, pictures on the website show quite large rooms but the bedroom was very small for the price, nice size bathroom though. The staff were lovely, very welcoming, chatty and friendly. Food was ok, presentation nice but food itself seemed a bit bland. Ate there both nights and on the 2nd night was disappointed to finish our meal only to hear the waiter running through the specials with other tables, we weren't offered any specials. Breakfast starts at 8 so if you're early risers for hiking or biking keep this in mind.

This classes itself as a pub with rooms - which it is, however be aware that some of the rooms are housed in in the house next door to the pub - but most exquisite are these - absolutely gorgeous and worthy of the rent for a nights or mores stay. We met and enjoyed the hospitality of the ‘keepers of the Inn’ who made us feel welcome and that nothing was too much trouble. In my opinion (and only mine!) - the menu was somewhat not what was expected nor the food up to expectation of the Devonshire Estate to which the pub is affiliated however, in fairness they dealt with all issues promptly and as we left they were in the middle of changing the menus. This place has much character and charisma and we will definitely return to enjoy again.

I can’t rate the beer battered fish and chips more highly! The best I’ve tasted in a long time, the service was very good and the staff were amazingly cheerful and helpful. The beer was pretty good as well. All in all it was the best meal we had during our weeks stay in Derbyshire.

I had missed the bus after a trip to the Chatsworth farm shop and was hungry so wandered down the hill to see what was on offer. It was quiet and a lovely place to sit and rest my feet! In fact so much so that I (intentionally) missed my next bus. The food was great, my only criticism was that one of the staff seemed to think I was a teenager and kept calling me ‘young lady’ and said ‘are you off on a big grown up adventure today?’

We ate breakfast and dinner for 2 nights running and all our meals were delicious and very well cooked. Service is not exactly quick but it's well worth waiting for!

We had a lovely meal at The Devonshire Arms, Pilsley. So much choice on the menu and all local produce which was nice.

Booked via pets in pyjamas. Welcoming from the initial encounter. Room great fun with 4 poster high bed including steps to reach the bed. Evening meal - very busy and although we had to wait 1/2 hr (kitchen obviously under pressure) waiters were attentive and apologetic. Food of excellent quality - ham and eggs/ plaice fillet.

Just 30 seconds from Holly cottage and certainly worth viting. Very attentive waiting staff and the food was most acceptable.

This is excellent quality pub food and beers all served with a smile and at a reasonable price. The menu, whilst not extensive covers anything you might wish for and a good selection of wines.

This is a great place to have lunch at. The service was with a great smile and cheerfulness. The beer battered fish and chips was delicious and the burger was huge and tasty. If you have an electric car there is a charging station in the pub's car park. The meal was good value.

We had lovely food in very comfortable surroundings. The staff were delightful. We were just a wee bit disappointed that the interior was more of a restaurant than a village pub with great grub.

Having had a pretty awful experience at the Whitworth terrace cafe I came here with my parents for lunch. We had toasted sandwiches which were well made, tasty and well presented with a lovely crunchy salad. The staff were friendly and attentive. I would recommend this cafe to anyone.

Lovely place. People pleasant enough. Ordered some food. Should have taken 20 mins tops. Over an hour later still not had food. It was just a steak sandwich, which it said came with onion chutney. Crispy piece of steak with a few fried onions. Cold chips and onion rings that were sitting in oil. A couple that came in about 45 mins after us received there food first, and that was 2 curry dishes. Was told the steak took longer than the curry????

First of all it is an extremely clean pub / hotel and I agree dogs shouldn't be allowed every where. We have witnessed dogs sitting at tables in other pubs ..not in Bakewell. But we called in early doors last evening for a quick drink whilst waiting for the bus. Crikey talk about a frosty. . reception ...not from the young lady greeter but from the bar staff...we were told to sit in the back of the pub if we were only drinking..it was soulless . Not somewhere I would consider eating. Came back to Baslow for a lovely greeting.

Ive reviewed this place before as its our go to. We have been many times. We just got back from one night stay in the annex where we usually stay. We have never had any issues before but last night was a bit disappointing. The bathroom needs cleaning properly. The tiles and the drip bar under the shower door was terrible. The bath panel had been broken and not repaired and the bottom of the bathroom door was broken so we couldn't close it. There was dust on the headboard too. Late last night as we were tucked up in bed, the fire alarms went off so we shuffled outside in pjs and coats. No staff around. We went to Reception and ended up in the bar. No explanation really so that was a bit unnerving. This is our go to and i really want them to get standards back up. I dont want to start trying to find alternative places to stay but if it doesn't improve then we may have to next time.
