Very disappointing. We’ve visited here many times over past 10 years. Booked for two nights as we know how good it is and how booked up it gets. Really surprised to walk in to see mostly empty tables, one member of staff on shift trying to do everything and pub generally unclean. Tables not cleared, no welcome despite our booking - just told to sit wherever. There was an issue at another table which didn’t appear to be handled well, all seemed very tense and unprofessional. Quality of food has declined and portions small to average. Such a shame, needless to say we’ve cancelled our second booking and will head to the wheatsheaf where it’s a quality experience all around

We decided to try here as it's only a stones throw from where we live. It was shocking. When I rang for a table , he said not sure if we have room but pop down. When we got there, there were loads of empty tables. We ordered a roast pork dinner and a lamb burger meal. The meals came, and I was given roast beef. I said I wanted pork, he said sorry and I'll sort it. Came 15 mins later with 3 pieces of pork in gravy in a bowl. I told him I didn't want it. What a joke!! So I've got to take the beef off the meal itself and replace it with the pork. Bearing in mind it had been stood for 15 mins. The waiter said, sorry and I'll refund you and bought £16.50 to the table. I said we haven't paid yet. He didn't know whether he was coming or going. It was shocking!! I'd never return to this pub even for a drink!!

Awful experience!!! 1 rude member of staff ruined our night! Wrong food was served but I saw the disgusting treatment of another guest so kept quiet finished our food and left !!! Lots of places in bakewell that are friendly and welcoming , no need to go here and risk a level of abuse that has no place in any line of work let alone in the hospitality industry!! “LIFE IS SH*T ISNT IT” was his opening line….No wonder pubs are closing if this is the standard of service provided! Took unprofessional to another level!

We visited as a result of the great reviews on Trip Advisor. We were not disappointed. Greeted by very friendly staff, we were shown to our table. Everyone was following Covid guidelines and we felt safe. The menu is interesting and varied. We chose the steak pie and seafood pasta, both of which were attractively served and absolutely delicious, followed by beautiful ice cream. Other adjacent tables were having the hanging kebab which looked divine as did the mushroom and asparagus risotto, cod and chips and slow cooked belly pork. Nothing left on anyone’s plates was testament to how much everyone had enjoyed their meals. The food is very well priced and of excellent quality. The pub is not over fancy inside but it is warm, comfortable, friendly, safe, imaginative as well as excellent food, well priced and beautifully served. What’s not to like?! Congratulations to front of house and kitchen. We’ll be back!

Loved the food ( hanging kebabs are delicious) friendly attentive staff , my only gripe is a table of 12 situated next to us, clearly not a table of two separate 6 or 2 separate households (current covid guideline's), spilled out over on to our table , very loud very intrusion on space and conversion. Spoiled our lunch.

Myself and my partner normally visit The Manners whenever we are in Bakewell for food and drinks. We were back in Bakewell for the bank holiday weekend and decided to visit The Manners as usual. Prior to our visit, we checked their social media to see if we could book a table for food. The Manners had posted saying that they were not taking bookings for food or drink for the first 5 weeks of opening and it was a case of just turning up.We turned up and waited. We were then asked if we had a table booked. We were very confused and said no and were then turned away because they were full with bookings. My partner then called The Manners and explained that we had turned up and been turned away because we had had no booking even though on their social media they said that no bookings were being taken. The response was ‘Oh right, well we have nothing this weekend.’ No apology, no explanation that they had changed their minds about bookings and forgotten to update their information. Nothing. When visiting previously, we have had a couple of issues with orders/table times but have enjoyed the food. Unfortunately, due to the lack of customer service on this occasion we will not be returning again.

I wanted somewhere that served a well presented and varied menu to take my parents (in their 80s) out for a Friday lunch and The Manners fitted the bill perfectly. Booked in advance to secure a table under the gazebo and the staff were delightful. Well cooked, hot on arrival at the outdoor tables and very tasty meals. Parking on site (which in Bakewell is a rarity) was great for my parents. Thank you to all who looked after us and to the Manager who recognised my Dad from his Bakewell Show days!

We were looking for somewhere to have a drink and snack after a family get together at Chatsworth. Driving past ‘The Manners’, we thought we’d give it a go and were not disappointed. The staff were super friendly and took us to a table with a heater that we could switch on when we wanted to keep us nice and toasty. We ordered food for the kids and nibbles for the adults and it was delicious and quick to arrive which is always a bonus with hungry kids. A real mixture of thoughts on this one. The pub itself is really in need of some TLC; it’s nice and clean, but the decor and furniture is pretty shabby, and it lacks any atmosphere (at least it did when we visited). The staff are reasonably friendly, but the guy on duty (beard and glasses) was not exactly “mine host” material. The food is definitely decent, and they cater really well for allergies and intolerances. So it absolutely fine, but not one I would rush back to. ♂️

Booked for two nights bed and breakfast for a quick getaway, first impressions were of a traditional pub/hotel but with a modern twist in terms of decor. Safe, secure parking on site and a good size beer garden. A very short walk from bakewell town centre. We were welcomed by Libby who hosted us to an extremely high standard throughout our stay, in fact I’d say she is the best host I’ve ever come across with nothing too much trouble and so friendly !! Thank you Libby !!The rooms are spacious and clean with a comfortable bed and good bathroom. Everything you may need is there On the first night we had dinner in the pub, an excellent fish & chips which we both agreed was fantastic and to a very high standard yet extremely reasonably priced. The biggest treat for me was the continental breakfast (full English also available). It was out of this world - a personalised plate delivered to the table consisting of a fresh fruit salad, Greek yoghurt with honey, a croissant and a pain au chocolat also with toast, jam, real butter, tea or coffee and a jug of ice cold fresh juice. We had to have it again on the second day!!!Highly recommend- we will be back !!!

Although there were signs to tell folks that a one way system was in place many folks did not adhere to it but that is not really the fault of the pub. Having spent the last few weeks constantly sanitising hands on entry into a pub or restaurant and following one way routes around the premises, after being asked to provide track and trace details, we were shocked to find that this pub had none of those procedures in place. We stayed one night in this pub which is approx a 1 minute walk from the town centre. We were allocated a lovely room, very spacious and spotless. The room was above the covered bar area outside so we expected the noise however this did not bother us at all. We found all the staff to be very pleasant and helpful, especially the Scottish lady at breakfast, I have never seen anyone so happy so early :). We ate our evening meal at the pub after the landlady kindly squeezed us in, I would recommend booking tables wherever you choose to eat early as Bakewell is extremely popular and busy. The food was excellent and my fiance commented that his steak was one of the best he had every had! I had the chicken skewer and it was also delicious. Despite forgetting to pre order our breakfast, it appeared to be no problem and the food was hot and plentiful, no problem with coffee refills either for all the other coffee-holics out there. Overall we had a great stay, found the social distancing policy to be in place and working, it was obvious tables had been removed to make more space. We would stay there again definitely.

On Monday 10 August, popped in for a drink and some lunch on our way to Buxton. Spoke to a member of staff, who advised us it was table service, so we took a seat in the beer garden and waited & waited! It quickly became clear that there were a number of other tables, also waiting. The beer garden is quite a distance from the pub, staff were disorganised, running back and forward, with no idea who was next to be served. When an order was taken and delivered they moved onto the next table, no multi tasking here. We finally were served and when we asked for the food menu, we were advised to go inside the pub for a menu or alternatively check their menu on their website - note to pub, The menu on your website doesn't work, customers on the next table confirmed the same! We were then advised no lunch menu e.g. sandwiches or light meals, but we could have a starter or mains meal of their dinner menu - no thanks, so just had a drink. A male member of staff cleared a table of glasses next to us, inserting his fingers into the dirty glasses, while holding a tray of drinks for the table he was serving, he then put the dirty glasses down on the seat next to the customers and using the same hand he took the fresh glasses of the tray and served the drinks to the customers!

After reading the reviews we were pleased to be able to book our family of 5 in for Sunday lunch, we checked on the phone to make sure they did veggie roasts which they did. Arrived for our 3pm reservation, tables sticky and close to other diners (less than a metre back to back), no veggie roasts left the only reason we were there, so v disappointing particularly as we’d mentioned it in our booking. We were offered veggie sausages with all the roast trimmings, felt cheated but can’t deny it was all tasty and well cooked. Some of us had the beef roasts and really enjoyed them, our 6yr old ate the lot! Some staff attentive and friendly others gave little eye contact and appeared sullen. Not a great veggie choice on the menu, left soon after eating mostly because it felt unclean. We had high expectations based on the reviews we read beforehand, I’d recommend the roast here but maybe book earlier to ensure they have some left.

My partner and I stayed in Bakewell for two nights at the neighbouring guest house ‘The Avenue’ and The Manners provided the breakfast to our B&B stay both mornings which was a delight. The scrambled egg knocked all other eggs out of the park and the Derbyshire oatcake (a first for us) was wonderful. I’d also like to know how they made the toast the most incredible toast I’ve ever had! We also booked into The Manners for dinner on the Friday night. The waitress was knowledgeable about the dishes and able to recommend to us. The hanging kebab was really tasty and my partner couldn’t stop talking about the chips all weekend! The staff are all really nice and helpful. All meals we ate here were perfect, generous portions and fairly priced. Would definitely recommend.

Salt of the earth good old fashioned pub. Slightly on the expensive side but always a good atmosphere with friendly locals. Allows dogs Meals are good but on the expensive side ( £15 for a small piece f liver and mashed potatoes in gravy)

After reviews which seemed very positive I’d been quite insistent on trying here. In fairness the food was good but the general environment was just not very pleasant somehow. One staff member was a little curt and surroundings quite basic. The aspect I found most strange was you had to order drinks from the bar and food from your table...to then not be allowed to order subsequent drinks from the table so we had to leave your meal to go queue for further drinks at the bar. I don’t think I’ve ever experienced that rather odd rule/set up (usually either table service or not) and it just felt very disjointed. Wouldn’t return for any form of ‘event’ type meal but fine for grabbing a bite in the day where expectations may be lower

We were in Bakewell for a couple of days and had been recommended The Manners by our son. We were not disappointed, we booked a table for 7:30pm and I was really glad we did, the place was packed and once we had tasted the food I could see why. The pub was a good mix of locals and out of towners and very friendly. The family on the next table had travelled from Castleton a good 30 minutes drive because they loved the place so much.Excellent food great choice of largers and ales and all at a very good price. Mondays is quiz night and they do excellent pie specials menu

Visited The Manners on a Saturday lunchtime with friends. It is a very popular pub and I was glad we booked a table otherwise we may have been disappointed. The food and service was excellent, especially the garlic mushrooms and the bangers and mash. It could do with a bit of a refurb to be honest and it seems to be stuck between being “the local pub” and a good food establishment.

Although The Manners definitely needs the refurb it seems to be in the middle of you shouldn’t be put off by it being a bit scruffy. The staff are really warm and friendly - and then there’s the food. Some of the best pub food any of us had ever tasted. Fresh ingredients, high quality, and a depth of flavour to every dish. Highly recommended.

I'm sure someone from the pub will reply to this review to try and save face As a ceoliac, I researched this as a place to eat in Bakewell for those with gluten intolerance. I informed them of my allergy, ordered a starter marked as gluten free on the menu, informed them of my condition and that it had to be gluten free, and they gave me a dish inccluding salami. As it often contains gluten, I asked to see the salami packaging to ensure it definitely had none in. They refused, saying it was impossible to show me the packaging (I mean *really*...it's impossible is it!? Transaltion: ****! WE DIDN'T CHECK, HE'S RUMBLED US AND WE WANT TO SAVE FACE, DESPERATELY) and I had a terrible reaction to the gluten which it obviously contained which ruined the rest of my day, and my health for the ensuing days. Genuinely dangerous ineptitiude, obviously not bothered about my health and wellbeing. Scary.

We easily booked a table. The menu was just what we needed for a good hot meal on a cold evening. The staff were helpful. Not expensive.

Although it was very busy with a big party booked in we managed to find a space. The menu was a bit more inspired than the usual pub food. The service was fine and the food was good. Overall, good value for money.

Looking for somewhere in Bakewell to have lunch we looked on Trip Advisor and decided on The Manners. We received a warm welcome on entering and we’re shown to a table and handed a menu. The choice of food was good and was very well presented. We really enjoyed the food and felt we had good customer care, so we will call again when next in Bakewell.

Delicious food and great selection on the menu, very impressed! Definitely high end pub food rather than your chain pub type of food. Staff were very friendly but weren’t that attentive, maybe because we were sat in the corner slightly out of view.

We spent two nights in Bakewell at the start of this month and dined both evenings here. The food was delicious, service very friendly (including for the dog) and we would have returned if we had another night! The wine was also very good, which can be disappointing at other pubs with limited options. It was the busiest place in Bakewell so I would also advise to book ahead. The staff at The Manners are doing it all right - great work and thank you to all involved!

Always a real pleasure to be back in Winster and partake of the hospitality of Old Bowling Green. Charming, relaxing and traditional with welcoming staff and very dog friendly. We enjoyed tasty basket meals (served Friday/Saturday), drinks and chit-chat. A lovely pub in a lovely village.

A lovely old fashioned chippy that was a real find for a hungry family. Service with a smile although they were rushed off their feet, very quick service and delicious food made for a great pit-stop. Highly recommended and one we'll revisit.
