The best restaurants serving British food in East Midlands

The staff at the Sugar Mills are always so friendly and helpful. Prior to us arriving, they went above and beyond to squeeze an extra guest in on a very busy night without having to change the time. We were welcomed with a smile and shown to our seats. The waitress was very quick in getting our drink orders and were very impressed with her memory as she didn’t need to write anything down and we had 7 meals plus alterations. Meals were delicious and reasonably priced. The atmosphere was great and nothings too much trouble. It was very busy but the staff didn’t seem stressed at all. My daughter had a lovely birthday meal and we will definitely be coming back.

Great dog friendly pub with really great food You must try the steak pie with chips and Mushy peas it was marvelous Great range of drinks as well and mi dog felt right at home

The service has declined since we last dined here. Little touches have disappeared. The wine is now plonked on the table and initial glass no longer poured. I had the lamb wellington, and was somewhat disappointed to receive 2 small cubes of meat. It was very nice though as was the rest of our meal.

Pleasant welcome and greeting from staff Food ok but ROAST POTATOES hard and stale so inedible Meat small and badly carved!

Service wasn’t great. Made a reservation and got told to find a table anywhere! Waited 15 minutes for drinks, ridiculous! Hash browns were cold. No bacon and no eggs. Yorkshires were stale, would not recommend.

Excellent food and service for dinner and breakfasts, the staff deserve a special mention especially Olivia and the other lady serving on Friday night, very personable and first class customer service skills. Best steak I’ve eaten for a long time, if we are ever back this way will definitely drop in again.

Our final visit to the Bonnie Prince before it closes and becomes a Hickory Smokehouse. Great service from the staff as always, especially April. So helpful and makes sure everything is 100% right and everyone is happy. Great to hear we will see her again at the Merlin in the future

Lovley food excellent service friendly

Sometimes you have to give a venue a second chance, as a mystery shopper, the first time me and my wife felt the food wasn’t very good and I quietly spoke to the manager who explained it was the usual chefs day off. We left it 6 months before returning and the staff looked very different, hard working but friendly and professional. The food we ordered was very good and I asked to speak to the manager and it was a lady who came to our table and I did say to her that our experience was a 5 star one and we will be back again in the future

I want to be honest and say everything was perfect, in which the food was more than perfect…. but unfortunately there is lack of communication with managers, staff & customer care. The food was absolutely amazing, well done to the chefs and kitchen staff. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ The restaurant was of high standard and very spacious and overall relaxing. Tables are spread out perfectly. 👍 The only down side was that the assistant manager took our order, then disappeared didn’t ask about any allergies so I had to ask a waitress to check with the kitchen for nuts. Before ordering any food we ordered Oysters and the wine whilst we looked over the menu. After looking over the menu (10-15mins later) we then decided to ordered the starters and mains… within 5 mins the oysters and starters all came out together 😬 mentioned to the young waiter that we wanted the oysters first he just grunted and put all the plates down on the table. So that was that 😬 so the warm scallop starter went cold whilst we ate the oysters. It seemed that there’s no organisation or consistency of who is doing what, we didn’t have the same waitress/waiter it was a free for all. No- one asked if the meals were ok, which to be honest you would expect one of the restaurant managers that are hanging around to approach the customers and ask if everything was okay. I have mention the above to the restaurant manager afterwards - so hopefully they get organised and up their customer care because the food was absolutely amazing. Overall we would come back as the food was superb ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

River was the best server ever so polite and lovely to me and my boyfriend. they served us very quickly and was polite and very nice and chatty whilst doing so.

Excellent service by all staff who gave us all (party of 11), a very warm welcome. The food was pre ordered and came promptly (some quests were late but this was not a problem and the staff showed great understanding) . Food was excellent, tasty and hot. The Manager, Milo, was attentive and checked in on us regularly. Would definitely recommend this establishment to friends and family.

Manager always keeps it spotless and she and her staff are always friendly. No matter how busy it is the staff are always attentive. We love the pub

5 star service, 3 star food. Brilliant service at the White Post yesterday. They found us a table by the window without steps and with plenty of space for my elderly mum and her walker. The service could not have been better. The food was average - a dry crust on the pie, poor onion rings, uninspired burger, passable lasagne. But overall a pleasant experience because of the outstanding personable service. Thank you.
