Fantastic roast dinner, all fresh, hot, and extremely tasty, beef was beautifully cooked and melted in the mouth with huge home-made yorkies.. new range of still ciders (bee-sting) was a great 👍

Provided the perfect stop after visiting Calke Abbey. It was a birthday event day and we enjoyed super service from Clare, Elle and Tracey. The meals were excellent and good value for money, in a warm pub atmosphere. Nothing was too much trouble, despite it being a busy lunchtime.

We stayed for one night at the Crewe and Harpur - arrived too key for dinner but breakfast the next day. The room was superb -(No 2) lots of character and very reasonably priced. Breakfast excellent and very good value for money. Location was perfect for us. But above all the staff were excellent - got things done, very friendly, and were just ‘on it’. Would highly recommend and will def stay here again

Booked for our granddaughter's 6th birthday. Food was very good, the staff efficient and friendly and they allowed us to take a birthday cake in to celebrate. It was delivered to the table, candles lit and a member of staff sang 'Happy Birthday'. Thanks to everyone!

Lovely meals today with the Pan Fried Chicken and the Cheese and Leek Pie. Cosy ambiance and lovely warm atmosphere today on a cold autumn day. Gin & Tonic was perfectly poured and the San Miguel just the right temperature. Claire’s compliments about my fluff were lovely surprise. Tracey’s cheerful welcome is always a treat on Fridays.

I met a friend here for a catch-up and some food. It's been a few years since I was last here and, based solely on this visit, I wouldn't rush back. The pub itself is really nice with a relaxed atmosphere. The setting by the canal is lovely and the pub boasts a large beer garden and ample car parking. We had pre-booked and were shown to our table. The drinks order was taken and we were left to peruse the menu. It is a fair-sized menu with a good variety to suit most appetites, including good vegan and vegetarian options. There is a separate gluten-free menu, as well as a good kids menu and lunchtime menu. The prices are pretty much what you'd expect for a pub like this, with the mains around £13-£20 and desserts £6.50-£8. We ordered fish and chips, the plant-based burger, arancini balls and a side of halloumi fries. The food came out in decent time, unlike the drinks, which took forever to arrive on both occasions. We were served by 6 different members of staff and it all seemed a bit chaotic and disorganised. Things were getting lost in translation. One person asked if we wanted sauces and then disappeared. I got my mayo about ten mins later from yet a different member of staff. My friend enjoyed the burger and arancini balls. My fish, however, was overcooked. You could tell this from looking at it and they still served it. The batter was rock hard and I didn't finish it. The amount of peas was a joke. I moan about this in most pubs. If you serve it with peas, actually put a decent amount on the plate or just don't bother. The chips were the best part of the meal. They were really nice. The halloumi fries, though, were also below par. I had my eye on the chocolate dome for pudding, hoping I would be hungry enough, which after the fish, I was. Again, this didn't live up to expectation. It was a very poor brownie and also a smaller portion than I was anticipating for 1100 calories. None of what I ordered I would have again and I left feeling slightly disappointed on this occasion. My friend has the blue light discount card which got us 20% off the bill, which was a positive. I would give it a try in the future, but there was nothing to shout about on this occasion.

One of the best Sunday lunches I eaten in ages. Great service by Eden, who was very attentive and friendly. Found the pub after a long walk and nothing was too much trouble for them.

Fantastic full works breakfast... Can really fill your boots and set yourself up for the day at a very reasonable price too with the continental included... Will definitely be returning soon.

Lovely country/village pub, plenty of parking, and located right next to the river. Holidaying in the area so we hadn't booked, but despite that, the friendly staff still found us a table on a busy Saturday night after only a short wait. Extensive menu choice, both food and drink, and all reasonably priced. Delicious food with generous servings. Highly recommended.

Service was very quick and polite. Lady who took our order was very accommodating with changes we requested. Portions were smaller than expected but absolutely no cause for complaints about the food- very tasty.

Very tasty roast beef dinner, just not as advertised on the menu. When the menu says Carrots and Parsnips,I naturally expect at least 2 of each, but we were only served a single carrot each. 2 small roast potatoes is a little on the stingy side too. The gravy was delicious. Drinks very expensive too.

Tried this place again to give it another chance. Very poor. Food, service below standard. Meals missing, items missing off every plate, some things uncooked. No wonder they are offering 30% off main courses. Won’t be back.

The service from Luke was very good, he approached everyone in a friendly manner and made everyone feel welcome. Very happy with service.

I booked a table for 12 for drinks & they cancelled it due to “no availability” however there was still availability on their website when I checked again. I emailed to question why it was cancelled as we really wanted to be in this location & never heard back. Poor customer service & their missed opportunity to make a lot of money as it was a Birthday celebration.

I have stayed here a few times now and the staff are fantastic! I travel alone for business and they really look after me. I love coming back here. The hotel rooms are of a good standard and the food is excellent.

A group of six of us stayed here overnight for a local event early the following morning. Great place to stay, with great friendly staff and 8 of us had an evening meal which we all said how good it was. Many thanks to Tracy and her team, all of you were fantastic and looked after us faultlessly.

We called in on the way back from shopping in Derby ... a pleasant lady who I believe was the manager greeted us at the door and took us a to a table when the menu was explained and a drinks order taken.....we ordered the Pie and the Fish and Chips which were both presented excellently and in a timely manner...We enjoyed both meals and when combined with the prompt service decided we will definitely return soon...

Really long wait. Very average food and over priced food. The staff didn't seem to care either. Wven when we ordered drinks or asked fir the desert menu it was 30 minutes or more before they got back to us so we gave up and didn't bother ordering.

Having not been here for a number of years, I decided to go one Sunday evening. Pub was relatively busy, with families & children Seated quickly, order taken, and food arrived shortly afterwards. I had fish and chips, and my partner, one of the specials, which was Pork Belly. Both meals were hot but were pretty average. Toral bill with drinks was £45 roughly, which I thought was expensive for very basic food. Might be ok for a drink in the beer garden in the summer, but food is very underwhelming.

Luke and Laura were amazing. Popped in for a family lunch to celebrate a birthday. Lovely atmosphere, great selection of foods for even the picky little eaters ;) great service and the caramel tart was to die for! We will be back

We ordered Hunter's chicken and the pan fried chicken from the specials menu. The Hunter's chicken was served with chunky chips and a 'green salad' - a few lettuce leaves. The chicken was overcooked and stringy. The pan fried chicken was served with sautéed potatoes, red peppers, chorizo and spinach. No complaints about the accompaniments but again, the chicken was tough and overcooked. The waitress and manager were fair and deducted the cost of the Hunter's chicken. Drinks overpriced at £9 for a glass of wine and £6.10 for an Ould Moult cider. I'm sorry but this isn't good enough.

Took my parents for an evening meal whilst I was visiting, despite being extremely quiet it took a long time to get our food which was very underwhelming when it arrived. Hunters chicken was dry with barely any BBQ sauce and cheese was just left to wilt on top rather than being melted. Salad consisted of lettuce and nothing else. Won’t be returning
