Booked for my birthday very dissapointed, freezing cold, smells of damp toilet seats all loose smells of fusty damp ceiling taped up looks ready to fall down had to leave sorry couldn't stay and eat there menu was restricted any way. Definately won't be returning

Freezing cold inside ,it was warmer outside

Honestly the worst dining experience I’ve had in a very long time. the place smelt awful as soon as you walked in, was damp, dingy, even the salt sachets were so wet they were just a lump. The steak I have to say way the worst on I have had in living memory, tough, gristly, tasteless, thin and nowhere near a 10oz, pepper sauce like thick jelly been sitting around for days, the chips were underdone and hard. The onion rigs were underdone and if I guessed they were from a frozen bag of Asda smart price I think I would be overstating the quality of them. Only one choice of wine that could have easily been better suited to the table in the vinegar pot. When i gave a very underwhelming review of the food to the waiter it was met with apathy and didn’t investigate further. This place should be boarded up and refurbished or burnt to the ground its that bad. The whole decor is like a time warp and I don’t think a penny has been spent on it in a decade or so. i can only recommend that anyone else should go, just for sheer comedy value that its almost funny its that bad. I literally jumped in the shower as soon as i got home to wash the place off me. Thanks fully i managed to keep it all down and no food poisoning a the time of writing th.........................................

This place is such a gem, it’s tucked away at the end of the road. Inside it’s so traditional and cosy and perfect for a relaxing evening. Now to the most important part … the food !! I enjoyed every mouthful of my meal (chicken breast, chips & black pepper sauce) my fiancé had the mixed grill. The portions are so big we couldn’t possibly have fitted dessert in. It’s such good quality food at such a reasonable price. The staff are super friendly too. I’d recommend this little place to all those who’ve never visited.

What an amazing meal! I have titled this review use it or lose it, and that is true, this is an amazing pub, with fantastic food, yet apparently is not banged out to the rafters, which it should be. The steak is unbelievable, tender, cooked to perfection and tasty. I genuinely have never had a better steak outside of my own house! The staff were brilliant, clearly so enthusiastic about the place, so friendly and so knowledgeable. It was one of my most favourite eating out experiences ever. (And I eat out a lot) This place deserves to be full beyond capacity every moment it is open, the value for money is unreal, the quality is second to none and the pleasure of eating here is immense. The food is good wholesome fare, but cooked to perfection. I have run out of superlatives, for this amazing (repeat) place. please go, keep it open, my mum lives in the area, I don't, but I need this place to be here every time I visit. Thank you so much for an exceptional meal.

First visit recently , pub inside and out needs major refurbishment There were no beer pumps or optics that looked like were in use Had to have bottled beer, food was ok large portions and decent price, steaks on menu (fillet) but not available staff pleasent but had young children helping out, only two hour slot for food service Not a place for a drink only, cash only no card, overall not a place we will be visiting again sorry.

I hate to leave poor reviews but having read some of the others after our meal, we know we are not the only ones disappointed- we hope management take notice and save what was amazing restaurant, before it is gone forever. We have been going for over 20 years, every night it used to be packed, not anymore and lacks atmosphere. The pub is in serious need of repairs and decoration. There is visible damp, it has a horrid smell and it’s so cold everyone was wearing coats. The waitress and waiter are a credit to the owners as they were keen and very welcoming - not sure I would be in working in such a depressing environment. Thankfully the food was lovely and hot, however it was mainly chips. We both had mini grills but the gammon and steak were tiny, about 3inches wide, thinnest slice of tomato and cheap sausage. What is going on? There are so many pubs in the area serving great food and value for money, this certainly was not. We only had coke and lemonade, but even that smelt funny and was almost flat. Unsure what the beer on tap would be like as I can’t see it having much of a turnover. I’m saddened to have to write this about what was one of our favourites. We will not be returning unless it makes some changes. Such a Massive shame.

“STAY AWAY AT ALL COSTS” Absolute joke this place. We went for the so called 10oz sirloin 😂 only to be served up with a 4oz (at best) wafer thin beef frying steak smothered in some kind of a watery sauce,apparently peppercorn and red wine. We was the only people in the pub from the moment we got there to the moment we left and the reason for this now is clear. The place was absolutely freezing cold. We never took our coats off once even to eat our meal. We had our 20 month old baby with us and couldn’t wait to get out of there to get him into our warm car. iv been to many a pub/ restaurant,I know what’s good and what’s not and in the 52 years of me being alive iv got to say this pub is definitely the worst Iv ever been to and had the displeasure of eating in. The beer which was apparently staropravan was flat and tasted more like a bad pint of carling. This place was the biggest disappointment Iv had in a very long time. I actually felt robbed when we left. Trust me when I say. “Stay away at all costs”.

Lovely food, (I had a cracking steak, lashings of peppercorn sauce and delicious hand cut chips) and great service. Room temp was a bit too low, but it was -2° outside after all! Give this lovely family-run pub a go, if you prefer good food to room decor, you won't be disappointed.

The staff was lovely, the food was excellent, and great portion size and at a very good price. Unfortunately when we visited the draught beers weren't working. The place is desperately in need of renovation but don't be put off by that. I would visit again.

Went out for family birthday meal 7pm, the smell hit us as soon as we walked in , inside interior was very worn & dated , when my meal came out it looked terrible, ordered large battered cod ,chips & mushy peas, the fish looked like 2 large fish fingers, chips very greasy & teaspoon of mushy peas, when I cut into the batter it was hollow both ends ,no fish just a small bit in the middle , same with the second one , told the assistant and they took it all away , didn't pay for it & they said sorry , but it wasn't good enough, other family members weren't happy too , shall not go again .

We went to the Mount pleasant Repton for my birthday wow what as happened to the place it used to be so nice it looked derelict a terrible fusty smell on entry every where looked dindgey and damp flakey paint every where deserted just our selves and one table of two it used to be packed proof of the pudding as they say. Our food well iv never had a steak so greasy yak nothing good with it at all my friend had the fish!!!!!! Don't have the fish it's supposed to be a large battery cod very funny it was two small pieces of burnt bread crummy batter with a tiny piece of fish 🐟 absolutely discusting our husbands had the mixed grill again all greasy staff just no idea to put it bluntly we wont be going back at all it needs a change of hands!!!!!!

Nice and quiet with great food Hidden gem I would definitely recommend the food here for the price you pay great for couples or family’s

The food and service was excellent, only thing I would suggest for improvement is the interior is very dated and there were a few cleaning issues that need attention, doors to toilets, carpets etc, I think these things would make the place so much better because the food is amazing and very reasonably priced.

Love the steak n homemade chips

What is going on here, No draught beers, warm bottled beers, and water coming through the ceiling. The place smells damp and the place looks derelict from the outside with plastic sheeting on the roof. I could only pay cash or bankers draft, what is that all about in this day and age. Costco chocolate fudge cake and watery ice cream.Service was slow and drinks served at table but no drinks list,and knowledge of staff was poor.We have been going here for 30 yrs but never been so depressed as tonight, i hope somebody from the owners will explain the decline in this establishment, and will not return until i here that it as improved.

We went for a birthday dinner and the service was excellent and the food was excellent all 6 meals were very tasty and cooked perfectly. The staff were attentive and friendly. Unfortunately they had no draught beers and the choice of optics was very scarce also the place could do with a makeover as it looks a bit rundown. We have been going here for the best part of 35 years and hopefully they will get it back on its feet before it is too far gone,in all the years we have been going please get it back to how it used to be.

What can i say the food was excellent with plenty of it, cooked to perfection. Hats off to the chef they did a sterling job. However, when i visited there wasn't a great choice of beers on draught. I was only able to pick a pint of lager because that's all they had, poor really for a public house. You had to order your drink at the table rather that at the bar , which i thought was rather strange.If they stocked a few more beers then they could tap into the late evening drinks market which is thriving in Repton but perhaps they don't want too. By 9pm the pub was like a ghost town. Everyone who had been eating had moved on to other drinking establishments or had gone home due to the poor atmosphere. The decor was also a bit tired and slightly drab.If they redecorated the interior of the inn and offered a few more draught beers, i'm sure this place would go from strength to strength. That said the food made up for the negative points i have outlined. I would have no problem recommending this establishment if you wanted to sit down and have a good meal, you won't regret it. Give it a try and see what you think? Make sure you book in advance because if you just turn up your likely to be turned away. Sadly that happened to some poor chap who strolled in and took pot luck.

I hate to leave such a rubbish review but i was so unbelievably disappointed i just had to say something. We have been coming to the mount pleasant for years, my partner more than 25 years, and its such a shame to see it deteriorating. The place is absolutely freezing, so cold now that I couldn’t even stay to eat. I ordered a Malibu and coke and the Malibu isnt real Malibu but cheap aldi coco loco knockoff, which tastes vile. Theres buckets in the middle of the restaurant catching the leaks in the ceiling. This was by far the best steak restaurant ever but i cant see us returning now, such a shame to see such a local treasure go south

We were really looking forward to a night out at this pub having not been for a few years. However, as soon as we walked in the door, there was a strong smell of damp and fustiness in the air, and I mean really strong. We were shown to a table towards one end of the room where other people were seated, and the reason for this was to keep everyone together and to keep warm as there was no heating on! Some of the items on the menu were unavailable as were some beers. We were told that it was cash only. Please,please we love this pub but won't go again until these problems are sorted by the management. Get rid of the smelly carpets (laminate the floor) and old tables and chairs,cut down on the choice of beers and food but make sure everything is available, and put a bit of heating on - won't cost a lot and the customers will come flooding back. My clothes smelt of the atmosphere the next day, no, I'm not joking. We were going to stay for a meal, but in the end just had a drink, then went to the Swan at nearby Milton - what a difference! On the plus side, the staff especially the waitress were really friendly.

2nd visit with friends here this year and was looking forward to the evening . As we entered the premises we could feel the damp straight away , also how chilly it was . Shown to our pre booked table by a charming young lady where as we were told only 1 draught/keg beer ???? alarms bells now ringing . Compromised by having bottles of ale which to be fair were very good and a few choices ,but a lot more expensive then keg beer. Not as atmospheric as we expected and the few that were there kept there coats & woollies on the whole time....the food was faultless and very hot and well looked after by our hard working charming waitress....we do hope there are no underlying problems here as the premises could certainly do with an internal make over..........will certainly return when the weather is warmer..........

4 of us went for an early dinner.. The food was very good, nice people, good service but it was very cold and there were no choices of wine or draft beers. The place needs a good overhaul. Needs new seating and decorating. Sad because you cannot fault the food.

Meal out with friends. My meal was nice, but had to wait about 40 mins. They did warn us that it was 30 minutes wait. Staff friendly. Nice pub but very cold. I had to keep my coat on. Some food and drink ran out, but alternatives available. We received a text to say card machine wasn't working, so we knew to take cash. I would go again, but in summer when it is warmer. I imagine they are struggling with rising bills.

We then went to pay and they told us “it is cash only” Being in the 21st century we don’t carry cash and expect many places to have a card machine, especially as it’s easy to get one! If we had known this, we would have brought cash. The staff claimed they emailed and text us, we did not receive an email or a text to say it was cash only. They didn’t even tell us before we ordered, so we had no chance to even run to the cash point! After complaining to the staff, they came up with a load of excuses and no apologies. One member of staff even scoffed and said “whatever” We are not ones to complain, nor do we go out of our way to write a review… but this service was appalling. AVOID

Do you want to make any money? Walked 10 mins to this pub from another Repton pub, having not been to this pub before. Upon arriving we were quickly told by the barmaid that there were no tables available for food. No problem, we just wanted a drink. Asked if we can sit at the bar. No. Since Covid, we’ve removed bar stools. Okay, so not possible to have a drink? No. What a joke. Avoid at all costs. Why would you go here when there’s The Boot and The Bulls Head In Repton , which are far superior. AVOID.

Very disappointing. I've not been here for a number of years as I'd moved out the area. The place is desperate for a face-lift. It's very tatty. The food was nothing about of disappointing too. All 4 meals left us feeling we wished we'd cooked at home. My double cheeseburger was horrible. I left it. The chips which used to be fab, were just greasy and limp. Very sad how its declined, but we won't be back again I'm afraid 😞... plus only calling on draught. Very odd for a pub.

Beautiful hidden Gem, good traditional pub with beautiful home cooked food as for the chips absolutely amazing. Friendly staff nothing too much trouble. Love the fact it’s homely and traditional.

A lovely family meal staff very understanding of my autistic son placed us where it was quiet. Wow a pub that does homemade chips is rare! We will be back next month for another meal we travelled to see some friends and called in lovely hidden gem! Excellent value for money!

Love this little gem rural pub, never fails to deliver quality homemade food. Best steaks cooked exactly as requested. The chips are worth travelling for, staff are always so welcoming, it's a proper traditional friendly pub well worth a visit.

Me and my friends travel 1 hour to go here for the best steak and home-made chips never had a bad meal here I would recommend and the staff are always very friendly and welcoming we like to visit once a month

Standards have really slipped. Food wasn’t great, chips were soggy and greasy, meat over cooked. Only carling on fraught. The place is falling apart, toilets disgusting and service was non existent. Shame as it used to be decent a few years ago…

A great place to go if you like your steak and chips.... Food is delicious and reasonably priced. However... We've been visiting the Mt Pleasant for over 30 years, but our last visit left us all disappointed. The pub is starting to look very tired and shabby inside and out. They obviously have serious problems with the roof leaking and you can smell dampness inside and in places the ceiling is water damaged and looks about to fall in. The decor is old and looks very dated and not been touched in decades. They had their fire door open for some ventilation, but this left the interior feeling draughty and also full of flies and mosquitos. Not ideal for diners and not what you want in a food preparation area. We'd requested to sit in a quieter area away from the main table area which was quite noisy with lots of families and kids. I don't normally have a problem with this, but as it was half term, it was fairly busy. This was obviously a problem for them, but eventually they relented and we were allowed to sit at the other end of the pub, which was actually unoccupied anyway. From that moment on, they really took umbrage and we were treated like dirt for the rest of the visit, the staff were curt and generally unpleasant. An hour after we ordered our food still had not arrived. I was on the verge of walking out, and had it not been for our friends would have done. I appreciate it was busy, but it was obvious they were doing it on purpose. We then chased up our order, and told it 'was being plated'. A short while later it arrived, but without any cutlery. But to be fair, as usual, the food was delicious. But once we'd finished we couldn't wait to leave. A disappointing evening, and one we won't want a repeat of in a hurry, so we won't be returning for a long time. You never know, they might revamp the place in the meantime, before it falls down. A final point. At one time you used to be able to arrive (without booking) and decide where to sit if it wasn't too busy, then order at the bar from the big menu on the wall, with a round of drinks, pay for your food there and then. Why do we now have to be placed, and order off an individual menu ? This just wastes time and makes extra work for the waiters. Why make life difficult ?

Very disappointing, not been for a while so we decided to go, they had ran out of some starters and the soup was not home made but Heinz vegetable soup. Chips are usually lovely and crispy but they were greasy and limp. Not sure what has changed here, but won`t be visiting again.

Mixed emotions really writing this review. When we arrived you could tell immediately how cold the pub was, the radiators were on as well as extra electric heaters but nowhere near enough to actually heat the place effectively. There was hardly anything available on draft, so had no option really but to have Carling which I'm not really a fan of. The food however was exceptional hence the 2 star rating, based on food alone you could only give 5 stars, but the rest of the experience cannot be over looked.

Great place for a nice meal.. Great homemade chip.. Just like your nan would make... Good menu choice.. Excellent for the price a little retro.. But all adds to the experience, well worth a trip out.... Pudding are fabulous!!!

We had a nice time there for my birthday. The food wasn't amazing but it was nice, would return. Only thing is if the staff wish to talk to customers it would be better to go nearer and talk rather than shouting all across the bar and halfway across the pub. Apart from that it was good.

The Mount Pleasant pub is a family run business. It is a lovely traditional country pub selling home cooked food, hand made fresh double (actually, they might be triple!)fried chips a speciality! The Sunday carvery is legendary in the local area! At the moment, they are doing take away, we have just had steak and lasagne, with obligatory chips of course! Delicious! Do give them a try it’s important to support small businesses especially in current times!

Went with friends who are regulars, food very good, value for money, had the meal deal, gammon delicious. Wine surprisingly good, English and only 10% alcohol. Would certainly go again.

All 4 of us had a 16oz gammon with the trimmings. Maybe should have gone for the 8oz!! and not added mushrooms and onion ringsVery busy evening but service was as good as you expected.Always a great food here a favourite of our group.

I was recommended to visit as they serve great steaks. I booked a table and was looking forward to a lovely meal with my family. The pub was very busy when we arrived but there was only one person behind the bar covering food orders, taking payments and serving drinks. Very slow service. Our table was squeezed in amongst a number others that were already occupied. There were many other tables that were empty at the other side of the room. I waited again to place our order for food. Our food arrived 50 mins after placing the order. It was ok. My steak was disappointing with a lot of fat. It didn’t look like a 10oz sirloin to me. Overall a huge disappointment. In summary in my opinion the place is like a social club. It’s not a place we shall visit again.
