Went out for family birthday meal 7pm, the smell hit us as soon as we walked in , inside interior was very worn & dated , when my meal came out it looked terrible, ordered large battered cod ,chips & mushy peas, the fish looked like 2 large fish fingers, chips very greasy & teaspoon of mushy peas, when I cut into the batter it was hollow both ends ,no fish just a small bit in the middle , same with the second one , told the assistant and they took it all away , didn't pay for it & they said sorry , but it wasn't good enough, other family members weren't happy too , shall not go again .

We went to the Mount pleasant Repton for my birthday wow what as happened to the place it used to be so nice it looked derelict a terrible fusty smell on entry every where looked dindgey and damp flakey paint every where deserted just our selves and one table of two it used to be packed proof of the pudding as they say. Our food well iv never had a steak so greasy yak nothing good with it at all my friend had the fish!!!!!! Don't have the fish it's supposed to be a large battery cod very funny it was two small pieces of burnt bread crummy batter with a tiny piece of fish 🐟 absolutely discusting our husbands had the mixed grill again all greasy staff just no idea to put it bluntly we wont be going back at all it needs a change of hands!!!!!!

What is going on here, No draught beers, warm bottled beers, and water coming through the ceiling. The place smells damp and the place looks derelict from the outside with plastic sheeting on the roof. I could only pay cash or bankers draft, what is that all about in this day and age. Costco chocolate fudge cake and watery ice cream.Service was slow and drinks served at table but no drinks list,and knowledge of staff was poor.We have been going here for 30 yrs but never been so depressed as tonight, i hope somebody from the owners will explain the decline in this establishment, and will not return until i here that it as improved.

We went for a birthday dinner and the service was excellent and the food was excellent all 6 meals were very tasty and cooked perfectly. The staff were attentive and friendly. Unfortunately they had no draught beers and the choice of optics was very scarce also the place could do with a makeover as it looks a bit rundown. We have been going here for the best part of 35 years and hopefully they will get it back on its feet before it is too far gone,in all the years we have been going please get it back to how it used to be.

I hate to leave such a rubbish review but i was so unbelievably disappointed i just had to say something. We have been coming to the mount pleasant for years, my partner more than 25 years, and its such a shame to see it deteriorating. The place is absolutely freezing, so cold now that I couldn’t even stay to eat. I ordered a Malibu and coke and the Malibu isnt real Malibu but cheap aldi coco loco knockoff, which tastes vile. Theres buckets in the middle of the restaurant catching the leaks in the ceiling. This was by far the best steak restaurant ever but i cant see us returning now, such a shame to see such a local treasure go south

We were really looking forward to a night out at this pub having not been for a few years. However, as soon as we walked in the door, there was a strong smell of damp and fustiness in the air, and I mean really strong. We were shown to a table towards one end of the room where other people were seated, and the reason for this was to keep everyone together and to keep warm as there was no heating on! Some of the items on the menu were unavailable as were some beers. We were told that it was cash only. Please,please we love this pub but won't go again until these problems are sorted by the management. Get rid of the smelly carpets (laminate the floor) and old tables and chairs,cut down on the choice of beers and food but make sure everything is available, and put a bit of heating on - won't cost a lot and the customers will come flooding back. My clothes smelt of the atmosphere the next day, no, I'm not joking. We were going to stay for a meal, but in the end just had a drink, then went to the Swan at nearby Milton - what a difference! On the plus side, the staff especially the waitress were really friendly.

2nd visit with friends here this year and was looking forward to the evening . As we entered the premises we could feel the damp straight away , also how chilly it was . Shown to our pre booked table by a charming young lady where as we were told only 1 draught/keg beer ???? alarms bells now ringing . Compromised by having bottles of ale which to be fair were very good and a few choices ,but a lot more expensive then keg beer. Not as atmospheric as we expected and the few that were there kept there coats & woollies on the whole time....the food was faultless and very hot and well looked after by our hard working charming waitress....we do hope there are no underlying problems here as the premises could certainly do with an internal make over..........will certainly return when the weather is warmer..........

4 of us went for an early dinner.. The food was very good, nice people, good service but it was very cold and there were no choices of wine or draft beers. The place needs a good overhaul. Needs new seating and decorating. Sad because you cannot fault the food.

Meal out with friends. My meal was nice, but had to wait about 40 mins. They did warn us that it was 30 minutes wait. Staff friendly. Nice pub but very cold. I had to keep my coat on. Some food and drink ran out, but alternatives available. We received a text to say card machine wasn't working, so we knew to take cash. I would go again, but in summer when it is warmer. I imagine they are struggling with rising bills.

On arrival we noticed how cold it was. Took our coats off but put them on within 10 minutes as the place was absolutely freezing. Ordered drinks but only one beer on office which was Carling and that was as flat as a pancake. Just stayed for a drink as too cold to stay for the meal. Felt radiator on the way out and it was hardly warm.

Absolutely appalling evening. It was freezing in the dining area. Radiators were on but barely heating the place up, and in the middle of December, that is not good enough. We were wearing out coats the majority of the evening! They messed up our starters, labelled food as “chicken bites” but brought us chicken wings (which they did then bring out some chicken strips after) We asked for steak, 1 medium and 1 medium rare - both were rare. We also ordered a mixed grill, all the meat was tough. We then thought we would try the “hot” puddings. This was a slice of cake warmed up in the microwave. The middle of the dessert was cold and so was the custard. We asked for Carling Shandy, they brought us a pint of Carling. The toilets were absolutely disgusting! Looks like they are never cleaned. We then went to pay and they told us “it is cash only” Being in the 21st century we don’t carry cash and expect many places to have a card machine, especially as it’s easy to get one! If we had known this, we would have brought cash. The staff claimed they emailed and text us, we did not receive an email or a text to say it was cash only. They didn’t even tell us before we ordered, so we had no chance to even run to the cash point! After complaining to the staff, they came up with a load of excuses and no apologies. One member of staff even scoffed and said “whatever” We are not ones to complain, nor do we go out of our way to write a review… but this service was appalling. AVOID

Love this little gem rural pub, never fails to deliver quality homemade food. Best steaks cooked exactly as requested. The chips are worth travelling for, staff are always so welcoming, it's a proper traditional friendly pub well worth a visit.

I was recommended to visit as they serve great steaks. I booked a table and was looking forward to a lovely meal with my family. The pub was very busy when we arrived but there was only one person behind the bar covering food orders, taking payments and serving drinks. Very slow service. Our table was squeezed in amongst a number others that were already occupied. There were many other tables that were empty at the other side of the room. I waited again to place our order for food. Our food arrived 50 mins after placing the order. It was ok. My steak was disappointing with a lot of fat. It didn’t look like a 10oz sirloin to me. Overall a huge disappointment. In summary in my opinion the place is like a social club. It’s not a place we shall visit again.

Spontaneous meal out with the kids, who both polished off every mouthful on their plates. Very children friendly with colouring books and crayons available. Lovely barmaid particularly friendly towards my children. Food delicious, especially homemade chips!

Pros, Brilliant menu, great staff, friendly place, real home made chips not oven, dine in comfort without feeling cramped, reasonably priced, it is highly recommended by patrons, only opens at certain times so please check opening time especially for Sunday Lunch, booking advised, Check the map for directions,cons, Could do with a little redecoration but this does not detract from quality food.

Been here several times. We arrived about 8pm without booking. There was 4 of us. Whilst it took time to get served at the bar for a drink the food was excellent. Homemade chips what a treat.

Not fancy but a nice atmosphere and well cooked simple pub food. Extensive menu. Home made chips. The mini mixed grill is not so mini and is a great deal. Good pedigree. Good service.

We visit once or twice a year and the food is always good value and quality. We usually visited on a Friday when the meal deal is not available but this time it was a Thursday and we have two mains, from a good selection of the full menu and a bottle of wine for £21.95 !! I think our mini mixed grill and 8oz gammon would have been £17 from the full menu. The home cooked chips are the best you can get, the food is nicely cooked and the hot plates were a pleasant surprise. My best tip would be to say how you like your meat cooked if ordering a mixed grill. I usually say but forgot this time although it was a good medium, I prefer rare.

This place is worth the Extra miles to travel for Good Home cooked Excellent Delivered Food Steaks and Mixed grill to die for , sorry not got past them lol working on rest of big choice menu . Lovely friendly staff and owner .

Didn't realise we had to go to the bar to order food from the boards, The food arrived quickly and was hot and tasty and well presented, the restaurant was quiet with a little light music, the staff were great.

This is now our favourite eatery for Sunday Lunch. The carvery is lovely specially the Roast Beef cooked to perfection all served piping hot. The staff are so nice and helpful. We no go every Sunday but you must book as it fills very quickly

My wife and i visited here for an evening meal on a Thursday night. We have been about six times. It was quite busy but we had booked. My wife had a mini mixed grill & i had a large mixed grill. First the good bits. My wife’s meal was nice & the homemade chips are superb for both of us.Now the not so good on this occasion. My lamb chop was burnt & the gammon was hard ( very well done) both not to my liking but for others it might be fine just being honest. Whether it was because it was busy i don’t know but i am not one to complain. For dessert my wife had treacle sponge & custard, not great but ok. I had apple & berry crumble with custard, which i thought was nice. Overall the meal was ok and it is good value for your money, but on this occasion it wasn’t up to its usual standard.We will go back again

Went on a Friday evening , phoned and booked a table but when we got there someone had sat on it ! We had steaks which were cooked nicely however I thought the place could do with a good clean lots of cobwebs on the lamps and ceiling and sticky tables, don't sit under the menu board as everyone stands behind you reading it and watching you eat , we said we hadn't been before but they didn't seem very bothered in explaining how to order food etc , it was OK but I would only go if we were back in that area , I wouldn't go for a special occasion.

We had not been for a couple of years but I had fond memories of good steaks . Surprised that so few tables were taken ,it used to be packed . No problem with the steak which was good but it has lost atmosphere and felt a bit "cold " which is not a criticism of staff who were nice . Biggest surprise came at about 9.20pm when the lady asked us to drink up as they were closing ,we did as we were told and left ! will we return ,possibly not

A thoroughly enjoyable experience of the sunday carvery. Its always quite a stressful experience eating out with our young grandaughter as she is peanut and treenut anaphalactic, we usually have to take our own food when we book anywhere. When I phoned to book our family meal the staff were so very helpful and reassuring, even contacted us prior to the meal to discuss our concerns...for the first time we actually felt relaxed, we could not fault the meal or the staff. Well done, we will definitely be reccomending to friends and family. Found a new local. We really could do with more places like this. Thank you to Michelle and staff for making our visit enjoyable.

My sister and brother in law live round the corner so we came out last Friday with their 11 month old for an early supper. They have been a few times but it was my first time visiting. We often pass the pub on walks we do in the area but it's always shut in the day time, only really opening for 3 hours in the evening which just seems a shame as we would have popped in numerous times for drinks and lunch. I'd never before heard of a pub closing at 8.30pm during the week and 9pm on a Friday and Saturday?! Most restaurants don't close that early either.

Four of us went for a meal at 6:00 pm. It got busy, three of us had good steaks and one had the mixed grill. We had two drinks each, including tip it came to £80 which is excellent value. Twenty years since I went there, I will definitely go back.

Hubby drove past here the other day and had a flashback of going as a kid so thought we’d give it a whirl. We were pleasantly surprised. It’s certainly very homemade/cooked. Staff were friendly even though it was busy. Hubby especially loved the chips.

A friend took us out to the Mount Pleasant on Saturday night for a meal here. I didn’t think we’d get seated at short notice but we were lucky that we did. We all ordered steaks or mixed grill, there was a decent selection on the menu boards though, and there’s a really lovely atmosphere to the place. The food arrived and I have to say that for the price, my expectations weren’t really that high, but I was amazed. The food is tremendous. We shall be returning, in fact I’d go every night it’s that good. Don’t go to the fancy overpriced pretentious other dining ‘experience’ places that Repton has to offer, well not until you’ve tried this place first.

Me and my wife visited last night and what an amazing meal it was. My wife has visited many times before but this was finally my first visit and can I say I will definitely be going again. I went for the mixed grill and I am struggling to remember a better mixed grill and believe me I’ve had many in the past, every part of it was fantastic steak, sausage, gammon, egg and the home made chips were to die for also the peppercorn sauce was one of the best I have tasted in a long time full compliments to the chef. I will definitely be visiting again and have promised to take my 11 year old son as he’s a steak lover like me. Many thanks for a great meal, great beer and great staff top marks

We received a warm welcome from the staff on a return visit here. The blackboard menu was comprehensive and there was plenty of choice for all tastes, including vegetarian options.

We first visited The Mount Pleasant 18 years ago and it still looks the same - even down to the pink tiles on the walls in the ladies' loos! The decor is stuck very much in the 1970s but you don't usually go to a restaurant to look at the decor - or the colour of the tiles on the walls of the ladies' loos! I had a steak which I'd asked for medium. It arrived rare and bleeding. I pointed it out to the young waiter, and he agreed with me it was on the rare side and immediately took it back to the kitchen. No fuss. When he brought it back it was cooked to perfection. I can honestly say it was one of the best steaks I've had for a long time. The chips were gorgeous, but personal preference would have been for them to be slightly crispier, but it wasn't the end of the world that they weren't. The only downside to the evening were the people on a nearby table who were vaping - the smell wasn't very pleasant but thankfully we were leaving at the time. Perhaps the management could consider asking people not to vape inside?

We recently visited in March for a mothers day meal we all ordered steak and chips with pepper sauce it all arrived at the table we all tried it and wow it made your mouth water it was so nice every one was so happy with there meal we came back the next Saturday and had the same very very nice will be coming back very soon

Went for a family meal. I live in the northeast and was here visiting family. I would come here just for the chips alone. Really lovely food.

This is the 2nd time we've been turned away . The first time we arrived at 8.35 told they have turned off the grill and stopped serving food at 8.30 even though they advertise serving to 9.00. So we made it to the Mount pleasant at 8.20pm and again we were turned away again they aren't serving food anymore. Not only it's a waste of our time and money there's seems to be a air of We've made enough money today so let's shut up shop. We won't be visiting again there are plenty of places these days to eat with better quality food and meets the needs of customers demands especially at the weekend. They would be better running a cafe if you only want to open at limited times.The homemade chips are nothing to shout about only veg peas . Same menu week in week out. And no menus so you have to stand looking at the blackboard where customers are sitting making some very uncomfortable.

We visited following recommendations and saw that the venue didn’t open until 6pm. I booked in advance for a table for 4 for 6pm . Be prepared though - do not arrive early be there for 6pm or you will have to stand outside and wait! Would suggest that the venue inform people that meals start from 6.15 so that you can arrive 15 mins early and get settled.

Visited mid week for steak and chips. Food amazing as always but evening cut short due to the room being freezing cold. We had to sit in our coats and left as soon as we’d eaten. Such a shame - please light the fire!

Went for sunday lunch with family ,second visit we also went last month for sunday lunch ,food was very nice but could have been hotter ,the lady that served on the carvery is quite abrubt ,she was last time we visited & i thought maybe she was just having an off day ! Seems that was not the case

We arrived around 8pm and got a table, as you can only book a table til 7pm. They ran out of the sirloin steak so I had the 12oz rump steak and it was cooked to perfection and the chips were lovely. My husband had the mixed grill and he said he really enjoyed it. Very good prices too. The only downfall was the fact that there were no menus and we had to stand in front of a large blackboard to read the only menu which was a little uncomfortable as people were eating all around us and we had to keep moving out of the gangway for people to pass. But we will definitely be going again, however it's an evening only pub that shuts at 10pm and we love to dine out in the day.

We were brought to the Mount Pleasant by some friends for a meal for the first time recently. We found the place homely, the staff friendly and the food excellent.

El horario de apertura de este pub es muy limitada, sin embargo, es un popular lugar para comer en el pueblo que sirve comida tradicional de pub. No hay 'lujos' aquí y en muchos aspectos se siente como si ha retrocedido en el tiempo.

Enjoyed a very nice meal. Simple steak and chips ( best for ages! ) Had the Meal Deal. £20 for two with a bottle of wine.Not the best of wine but acceptable for the price. Staff hard working and pleasant.Would go again.

We visited on Wednesday May 10th. There was one girl serving behind the bar and taking food orders. She did the best she could but sadly she had little help. The menu is on a blackboard on the wall, so dont expect one on your table or one to be bought to you. The knife and folks are at the bar and not on the tables too. None of this was explained to us. I feel if these were on the tables it will elevate the experience some what, and not make it feel a bit like a canteen. The food was bought out quickly. I do have to say all of our food was excellent which made the visit worth while. We will visit again and the visit may seem different now we know what to expect.

We visited the Mount Pleasant last night as we both fancied a nice steak and chips for tea. We have been here many times over the years and always loved the food, the steak and homemade chips especially.However, last night and on our previous visit the steak was disappointing. It has no beefy taste in fact it was quite chewy. We both had it medium rare so it shouldn't have been like that. The chips were lovely as were the mushrooms and onion rings. I think maybe they have either changed suppliers of the steak or opted for cheaper steak. The steak we buy from Lidl has more taste. I know there are other things on the menu but when you want a particular thing it's big disappointment.

Not as good as some of the reviews. Sunday roast was not very good. But for the money it was ok! Only 2 meats to choose from, carrots very wet and cold, cabbage cooked to my liking but stalks left on, so very very hard. Carcery area very crammed. Don't bother asking for cappuccino, was like sludge water.

Not been here for at least 30 years and was told the steaks were fab. Went with a group of friends. Decor old fashioned but clean. Very comprehensive menu all homemade and cooked to perfection. Half of the group had steaks and they were not disappointed, absolutely fabulous food. All homemade cut and cooked chips with all dishes. Food service was great. Although the restaurant was busy there seemed a calm all around and. Toning was too much trouble. You have to go to the bar to order food and drinks but that is not an issue. Really good value.

Good honest home cooked food which is reasonably priced. Steak and chips Superb, they could do with a larger selection of Drinks on offer,! Dated decor is a real talking point but it is clean. Possibly in need of refurbishment or at least updating but pub companies are greedy and don't like spending money. Worth a visit.

Good value and piping hot. Service bit slow and not too busy. It was worth waiting for,like blotting paper. Just wish the vegetables were bit more varied.

Always good home cooked food here and not expensive either. It's no gastro pub, just good honest food.....chips are excellent also. Drinks range a bit sparse, could do with more wine and beer choice. This place is like being in a time warp - but in a totally brilliant way. Food is unbelievable value and the portions are massive. Perfect if you are a total meat lover - my husband had the mixed grill and it was literally a platter of food! Would definitely go back!

Have been customers for the past 30 years and have found the service and food quality to be of an excellent standard at all times. The bar staff/waiters are always pleasant and helpful. I usually choose a steak meal and my wife enjoys many of the options on offer from the blackboard menu. We have always enjoyed our meal and would highly recommend this pub to anyone else. The pub is very popular and it is a good idea to ring ahead and reserve a table.

We booked a family table for 7.30 pm. On arrival we were shown to a table that we literally had to squeeze into as the other tables had been pushed together to get more in. My husband ordered a drink at the bar then proceed to the food order desk. He was told that there was a one hour wait for food orders! We had already spent 20 minutes waiting for a drink so food in total would be 1 hour and 20 mins. Totally unacceptable and was offered a slight apology from a young polite waitress. We decided to leave and not order any food. Never again will we go here. We are told the food is good but when you book a table, you are expected, Right? The place was over booked, crowded and disorganised. Totally ruined our Friday Family meal out. We went for a curry in Repton on a walk in basis and enjoyed delicious food and a warm welcome.

Came here for a meal on a Friday night in April, I've never been before but have heard from others that it i had to try the steaks here, and I wasn't disappointed! I had a m/r fillet steak and it was cooked to perfection with lovely hand cut homemade chips, the rest of my family had sirloin steak, veggie lasagne and scampi. Everyone was delighted with their food we couldn't stop raving about how great value for money it was. I can't wait to come again, the service couldn't be faulted and the food in general lived up (if not more) to its expectation! Great job :)

We went here for a birthday meal over the weekend. We were a table of 16. Upon arrival we asked if we could set up separate tabs as we wasn't paying together. This wasn't a problem & so that's how we ordered food & drink. Simple enough, however while some of our party were still ordering their starters & mains, other members of the party were already receiving their food. At one point some of us had finished both the meals & 2 people were still waiting on their starters. This made it very awkward as we were all eating at different times. The food was ok although my tuna was very dry & over cooked & the steaks that had been ordered hadn't been cooked as requested, they too were all over cooked. Thankfully when we had our desserts we were all served around the same time but instead of being able to enjoy our first meal together that evening, we were interrupted by one of the waitresses who wanted to know who had had what as the tabs hadn't been filled out correctly. We found this extremely rude. There was no reason why she couldn't of waited until we'd finished eating. This isn't somewhere I'll be rushing back to.

It's been a few years since visiting and I'm pleased to say this place remains as god as ever.Situated on the outer limits of Repton this village pub ticks all the boxes externally and internally and the deceptively small bar opens out to a much larger eating area.However the 'Real Fire' and huge chalk menu board add to the overall ambience.A good selection of real ales and single malts sort my drinking & the food is well cooked, generously portioned and good value - we had the big rump steak and mixed grill both of which were fantastic. The chips are to die for!!! There's always a good selection of sweets on offer as well.So pull this one in when you're in South Derbyshire - 10 minutes drive off the A38 Willington junction.

We have been to the Mount Pleasant for years and the standard of the meals never really change, we go for special occasions birthdays and anniversary's with the family and never had a bad meal. The home made chips and the black pepper sauce are the best ever. I always have a steak when we go out I know it`s boring but this is why I go out for a meal and this is one of the best steak places we have ever been to, there is also a wide choice of other meals available. Looking forward to our next visit as I am writing this.

This place has been doing great steak and chips for many years. They do a very good mixed grill too. Beers are plentiful and staff are friendly. Opening times reduced sometimes so worth reserving a table to avoid disappointment.

The last time I visited the mount pleasant was around 6 years ago and we use to come once every 3 months. We came last week on a Sunday and got there 10 minutes after it opened and just managed to get a table for 3 adults and 2 children (4 & 1 year olds). A table next to us were saying they thought it was bad that you could only have a carvery on a Sunday and not normal food. We checked and this was the case but as the children were very hungry we decided to stay and eat here. Firstly they didn't have a child seat for our 1 year old so he had to sit in our knee and eat his dinner. We were in the cue for 15 minutes to get our food and as we got close to being served it looked like they hardly had any food. They had ran out of lamb and only had beef as an alternative meat so we'll all took the later option. As for the veg they had carrots, cabbage, boiled potatoes and peas. Basically No turkey or ham, no parsnips, no cabbage, no broccoli, no mash, no stuffing, no swede, no sweetcorn, no Brussels,No new potatoes. Very ,very basic.

Country pub that serves a good selection of local home cooked food.....home made chips..Mmmmmm... and the mixed grill is great !!! So if you want a good homemade meal using local produce in a family run country pub at a reasonable price.... try the Mount pleasant.!!!!
