Decent pub good beer. Proper pub.

I stayed here overnight in my camper. The food and beer was really good and the Landlady was lovely.

Driving past popped in for a chicken curry and kids sausage n chips meal. curry was watery and luke warm and the kids sausages were like metal rods.

Extraordinarily welcoming people. Loved the 'taverna' area 😉

Great friendly pub landlady made us very welcome.

I've not been here for many years, and it didn't disappoint

The experience of Shakyfeste was great, friendly , lovely big field at the back of the pub , good carpark. With over flow across the road. Beer tent outside but unfortunately they had ran out the day before because of numbers of people the day before due to the exceptionally good weather , but by later that afternoon then the beers were replenished. There were hotdogs and burgers on sale but was cash only , which many of us today since covid don't seem to carry on us . But the pub came to the rescue by offering cash back , So problem solved . All in all well organised event with great music from the band's.

Me and my partner absolutely loved our time here, very friendly staff and the food was fantastic.

Hidden Gem! Wow what a find. We booked a table here for an early Mother's day meal. We were the first people there for lunch, but others started arriving soon after. They had a good selection of homemade food on the menu. The lady who served us was very nice and explained various aspects of the menu items perfectly. The food was delicious and extremely good value. The chicken kiev was made to order and the selection of different burger patties was impressive. Plenty of old favourites like fish & chips, Shepard's pie, chicken curry to name a few. They have a kids menu and a sharing platters menu if you want something lighter. Part of me wants to keep this place as my little secret, but they have definitely earned this review and I look forward to trying other items on their menu.

Ordered the chicken madras curry, tasted like tomato and onion no curry taste what so ever could have fed it to my 2yr old. Rice was a cloggy lump needed rinsing to remove the starch. Nann bread was smaller than the top of a small cob pitta bread 5 times bigger and to top that burnt black on one side. No one asked if the meal was ok. Too say was pissed off would be a under statement. Wouldn't recommend the food to anyone

My wife and I popped in for a lunch and the pub was quite it was very clean and tidy and the food was well presented hot and delicious and very good value for money.

Had the sunday roast, really good value for money and was delicious and plenty on your plate and a lovely treacle sponge and custard for pudding, would highly recommend 😋

A luverly local pub with very happy staff + very clean. Toilets had everything you needed. Didn't eat here as the website was not updated and didn't have the fish platter we were looking forward to.

This was my first visit with friends who live locally and as far as good pubs go the Shakespeare is right up there as one of the best. It has a warm, comfortable, homely feel like all the best traditional pubs should have and has a real family feel to the way it is being run. The staff are friendly, as were the clientele, it has sports on corner tv's that are not overly imposing, a well stocked and kept bar (the beer was excellent) and a huge garden area at the rear. We only had pub snacks which there were plenty of but apparently the food here is also very good so I Will adjust my review when I revisit and I will 100% be revisiting...what a little gem.

Met friends at The Shakespeare Inn for sunday lunch. Firstly enjoyed sitting outside in the sun in their large beer garden. Then went inside to eat. Enjoyed an excellent roast dinner...went for the beef and pork combo....served with vegetables, stufffing, yorkshire puddings and plenty of gravy. Everything cooked really well. The staff were friendly and helpful. Excellent food, great price and a good selection ales. What more could you want...... Definitely recommend and would go back again.

A camping trip to remember! The owners allowed us to use a part of their garden to pitch our tent. We drank and ate there and from the very start all the staff were amazing, friendly and accommodating. The land lord even provided us with a fire pit and wood. I can’t begin to tell you how lovely they are. We hope to do it again.

Called in to meet family for lunch having never been before. I will definitely be going again! The food was reasonably priced, my belly pork was £11 and it was done to perfection, nicely presented and hot. There was a good selection of meals and drinks. The pub was spacious, and clean and the service was good. I didn't take my dogs because I wasn't sure if they'd be allowed in but I did see a well behaved little dog there so assume it's dog friendly too.

Have visited here for the Triumph Owners Motorcycle Club meet on a couple of occasions. Diane was friendly at the bar and Dad and I ordered one pint of cider for Dad and another half a pint of cider for me. Clean inside and a good variety of drinks.

A visit is now a joyless, miserable occasion. A sad change, as it was a welcoming place. During COVID with outside service, the landlady used to be engaging and conversational with customers. It's the same licensees but a personality change means barely disguised resentment towards someone ordering a drink or meal.

Popped in for Sunday Lunch they had ran out so main menu chicken in cider and steak pie my chicken was boiled dry and as hard as the table i refused to eat my lady had the beef pie there was no taste looked like cat food was really looking forward to this HiHo will not be back sorry Simon & Samantha

First time going in there and it’s quaint. Nice and clean. Friendly staff and accommodating for children. They serve food (good to know I’ll be back) as well as coffee - 😋 cappuccino was delicious! Can only give 4* as I was only in there for one drink (catching up with family briefly) and it was dark. I’ll update once I’ve been there a good while. Can’t comment on the atmosphere— there were only 5 people to count including staff. Over all. Not a bad place to go for a Swift one.

Met some friends at Shakespeare Inn and we hadn’t been before. The food was delicious, I had fish, (Haddock it was absolutely amazing) home made chips, mushy peas and salad. The landlady was so friendly and accommodating. We will definitely be going there again.

Never again will I return to this place! Turned up after a hard day at work, after my first pint with friends, tried to order 2nd pint at 22:10, to be told “closing soon, when dominos finished” oh ok? What time? “Not sure…” so.. we had one more.. told to drink up by 22:30.. left with the other room still with domino players, Obviously a local pub with no welcome for new people, Also… to be told to leave and go to the next pub, (navigation) is very unprofessional

Had a ride up on our bike stopped in for a lovely meal, was a nice surprise real home made chips (not frozen) could only have 1 pint but went down a treat. Lovely back garden. See you again soon xx

Just popped in for a drink, really efficient bar staff. The Bass was really good as is the Pedigree. Subtleties of serving the beer in branded glasses is a great touch

A wonderful night of entertainment at the monthly open mic session with some very good quality electric Band's. If you like music this entertainment costs nothing. Excellent pint too 👍 thankyou all at the Shakespeare

Place and food were amazing are amazing, yes it's changed hands it's had a revamp to bring it up to standards in the area, very nice job I enjoy drinking here nice atmosphere good vibes, disabled access, toilets to a high standard, very large beer garden to rear had many a doo hear myself.....

Fantastic place and the trad beer is great pedigree bass and doombar when i went real coal fires burning logs very clean too

There was a lovely fire n the lounge and it was cosy and warm, but unfortunately there weren't any seats in there so we had to sit in the bar which was cold.

Visited Shardlow yesterday, and most of the pubs were busy outside including this one. Decided to sit inside next to window, and it was relatively quiet and relaxing! As it was busy, we did have to wait for service but found the staff (mainly young), to be polite and courteous. Would definitely return again!

Great place and friendly atmosphere

Went here for a stag celebration on 17th July 2021. Ample car parking, vast outdoor area for family party's. Would love to have sat inside but due to restrictions didn't. My experience on that day was very relaxed surrounded by friends, music & sunshine. The service by the staff there was brilliant & mostly prompt considering our party of 20+ was being taken care of as well as other patrons, food looked great even though I didn't have any & I didn't hear of any complaints either regarding the food. Very well run pub that day as far as I'm concerned as I'm sure it usually is. Thanks to the people who run the Shakespeare which are Diane & Mick with the help of Keeley, Holly, Reece & I believe another young lad who's name escapes me sorry. Just a great pub in any season in a nice location. Hope to return soon & not just for an occasion but just to sit inside & soak in the atmosphere or outside just to relax with my own thoughts in the garden. Brilliant..! Robert Breslin

Went to the Shakespeare Sunday afternoon. After 15 minutes of not being served I requested drinks to be told they had orders to fulfill before they got to me. Nobody came back. I asked a man I guessed is the landlord and he told me someone would be over. Didnt happen. The landlady came out and was incredibly rude to my sons friends. We left without getting a drink. The place is woefully understaffed and the landlady us rude. Won't be returning.

Beth was very rude and disrespectful when I asked when my drinks would arrive that I had been waiting for for 45 minutes. Reece and Ashley were exceptional when we asked them the same question.

First time we have visited the Shakespeare Inn and it was very well organised and will certainly return again.

Huge garden and plenty of social distancing. Plenty of sheltered drinking spaces.

Visited the Shakespeare on a few occasions since the new managers have taken over the pub to see what it's like. However on my visits I've found the pub to have gone down hill with a rude land lady who only seems to chat to a select people that she knows. Ignorant bar staff who seem to follow her every command of only talk & serve regulars first & ignore people who aren't regular. Visited on a few occasions to find the attitude has changed not only with the bar staff, but with regulars who have made this once nice enjoyable pub very Clichy' & off putting. Believe Me ! If the land lady doesn't like you' You'll know about it. Santo

Visited this pub restaurant for Sunday lunch after a recommendation and found it to be very good. They have a nice restaurant and a nice bar area were you can sit. They also have an outside area.There was choice of roast beef, roast pork or chicken breast with freshly cooked vegetables. There was also a starter and sweet available at a small extra cost. There was also their main menu available with a good assortment of dishes. The Sunday lunch started at £8.95 which was good value. They serve a good selection of drinks at the going price for the area. We found the bar staff and kitchen staff to be friendly and obliging. There is also a large car park with plenty of spaces. I fully recommend the Shakespeare Inn and we will definitely be returning.
