Lovely place for a drink although it was a cold day we sat outside because of the views it was really nice. It's a bit expensive but everything going up in price so not really their fault. So nice staff and a decent drink.

I was very interested in booking a table here after it came up on my browser as a great place to go for Sunday lunch. Most of the photos show stunning looking food, that made your mouth water. However one of the carvery photos showed cooked joints of meat, on red chopping boards.! The red boards should only be used for raw meat, specifically, to avoid cross contamination. To have a blatant disregard for health and hygiene on Show, made me decide not to bother booking.

We popped in late in the evening, just before the carvery was about to close, and relaxed in the bar with our friends and their dog. The place has a great, traditional atmosphere, and it’s a top choice whether you're looking for a drink, a meal, or both! Which we definitely recommend! The food was fantastic as always, with great quality and very reasonable prices that easily outshine any chain carvery. We couldn’t resist ordering dessert and ended up sharing an Oreo cheesecake and a sticky toffee pudding. Both were incredibly moreish and decadent, perfect for sharing and the ideal sweet finish to our meal.

Really nice place. Recently, I booked for 14 of us to go for a Sunday carvery, a decision made in no small part because most people seem to love a carvery for their Sunday dinner, however I was the outlier in our group for not being a fan. I usually can't stand them, roast potatoes that wouldn't look out of place being fired out of cannons during the civil war, sorrowful veg that looks like it had lost the will to carry on long before it was plucked from the earth and Yorkshire puddings that you can knock nails in with just isn't my thing but sometimes it's easier to just go with the flow and find something that the majority will like. Faced with the fact that I might have to pick around the bits that looked suspect and maybe, if nothing else, I'll be able to take a piece of dry meat home to file my nails with later, I braced myself and took the plunge... ...Yeah, I'm an idiot for thinking those things and I'll happily accept that. My fears were soon dispelled as this was spot on and a very welcome change from the usual cheap n' cheerful carvery fare offered elsewhere. Myself and the rest of our party thoroughly enjoyed every bit of it. Pricier? Yes. Unacceptably pricier? No. Worth it? Absolutely. The kids meals were well received. The service was great (both waiting & bar staff). The overall vibe of the place was very welcoming. My only regret? Not staying for dessert. Maybe next time? If anyone from the Cooper's Arms is reading this, you've got a good thing going. Keep it up!

Came here for my fathers birthday. We had the carvery and the steak pie of the a la carte menu. There was plenty of food and the meat was plentiful and normally I have no complaints. But this time my friend and I found that the roast potatoes were hard as nails. So we left them, we saw other diners also leave them. Once i ordered at the bar, the staff didn't bring us any cutlery and when the meal arrived I had to go and find some. We ordered desserts, but again the plates weren't taken away before the Deserts came out. So I did find this an inconvenience. I will return, but next time I will have to raise the complaints. With it being my fathers birthday I didn't want to create a fuss. Hopefully my next visit will be better.

This pub/restaurant is in a lovely setting; countryside, lakeside etc with a fabulous and interesting historic building. We visited on a Sunday and the car park, although large, was chaotic. The Sunday menu is mainly their carvery and the food was good. The waiting staff were helpful and clearly very busy. However, the person carving meat was obviously harassed perhaps by the 'busyness' of the day.

I've visited the Coopers Arms many times and it's never failed to impress. The location and surroundings are great, it's an old house dating back hundreds of years with lots of history. The beer garden is large with views over a fishing lake. Whenever I've been I've always had a carvery which in my opinion ranks as one of the best in the Derby area. I normally have the lamb shank which is a very generous size, but all the carvery options are good. There is one vegetarian carvery option. It's an old building on multiple levels and as such there will always be some steps you have to use so limited easy accessibility. The service is great and very friendly. It does get very busy, especially at weekends so there can be a wait for getting your food. It's essential to book at weekends and especially on a Sunday. Been many times and I'll definitely be visiting again soon.

Although i am not a huge fan of carveries i have had quite a few over the years and absolutely none of them can match up to the coopers arms. It's no mean achievement to get all three meats and half a dozen sides of vegetables all!! cooked to perfection but somehow Coopers Arms managed this last Sunday. We arrived (apologetically) with an extra member in our party and after a couple of minutes of table shuffling and a promise we would vacate the table by 3 were seated. Staff were all polite attentive and good humoured throughout. i opted for a salmon and avocado starter and we all had the "coopers choice" of pork Ham and beef. There was a very comprehensive array of vegetables and the obligatory yorkshire puddings. Every side dish and cut of meat was spot on.

I can not fault this establishment. We came this week for our 5 year anniversary meal, we hadn't ever been to eat here before, and I was dubious, I was very pleasantly surprised. My partner sure did choose a good place to eat (for once). I had the mushrooms to start with sourdough it was by far the nicest mushroom starter I have tasted. I then ordered the steak with homemade chunky chips, mushroom and side salad, with a side order of onion rings. The steak was a little over cooked I asked for R but it was more MR. But the whole dish outweighed that slight error. The CHIPS are by far the best chips I've ever tasted at any restaurant. And those onion rings.... Well..... I was shocked to say the least absolutely fantastic. I was so full but I couldn't stop eating. We even had desert. Thankyou for such a lovely feast. It’s just such a stunning building. The huge stone walls on view in the bar/restaurant are so impressive. It has the biggest deepest fireplace I’ve ever seen. Nice large car park, which would be big enough but this place’s popularity means it can be difficult at times. Wish someone would fill the deep and damaging potholes on the road up to the site entrance. Food is great, it’s gone up some so it’s not cheap. The carvery is a delight nothing to fault and the best creamed leeks I’ve ever eaten. Highly recommended. If you’ve never been give it a try, lunch times especially good.

Just got back after a couple of cheeky pints in the bar area. Had a nice porknpie but would have been better with a metal knife and fork, rather than a wooden fork. Definitely recommend.

They didn't ask us to pre-order. There were 14 of us, seated at 2 tables - a table of 10 and a table of 4, which wasn't ideal. We had to wait over an hour for the main course, then over half an hour for dessert. The food was lovely and well-presented when it eventually arrived. If we go again, I think we should pre-order and also ask for the table layout to be different, so that we can all sit together.

Booked a table for 5 people. Turned up could smell a damp/mildew stench. Asked for drinks, nothing on tap only bottled. Sat at table and said to the wife that I can't eat in here with that smell. It was cold in there aswell. Four others were sat at their table with big coats on. Phoned the brother-in-law from outside to tell him we'll go somewhere else. Went back in to the wife and drinks had come. I necked my pint and the wife left a watered down pint of cider. Asked barman how much I owed for the drinks. He said shall we call it a tenner, I gave him it and said we won't be stopping to eat because the smell was overwhelming. He said the roof near the kitchen had collapsed months ago which is probably the cause of the smell. Such a shame as this pub grub used to be great. The decor bought back memories as it was the same years ago. The pub needs gutting. I wouldn't use it to keep cows in, in its current state. Andy

If I lived nearer, it would be my local.
