This is a beautiful pub, it is a shame the staff let it down so badly. We arrived for lunch, sat in the dog area, as we had dogs with us. Went to the bar to order the food, and we stood and waited. No one acknowledged we were there, staff just kept looking and walking past. Eventually we put in the order, luckily the till showed us the bill from our side, as there was an amount of £48 which I didn't recognize. When questioned the bar man told us he had charged us for two bottles of wine instead of two glasses. Then when we had paid, he told us there was a wait on food for 30mins. The pub wasn't that busy, but hey ho, we weren't in a rush. We ordered more drinks and puddings, and sat for a little while longer chatting. Leaving about 3.00pm, later in the evening we fancied another drink, so returned about 6.30 pm, as we had the dogs again we sat at same table, which hadn't been cleared from 3 hours earlier. Having said all this the food was good when it eventually came, but it is shambles, and the staff need a little training in customer service.

12 of us came to celebrate my granddaughter's 18th birthday. The pub wasn’t busy. Unusual for a canal side pub, on a warm Saturday evening in August, We decided to order separately, three of us using the app, to avoid having to split the bill later. I ordered our drinks, but couldn’t order our food. My husband went to the bar and was told the app had been turned off as it wouldn’t accept the 30% off voucher. Thinking it was odd, but never mind, he ordered our food but noticed the discount had not been applied. The manager said we hadn’t shown him the code, despite the conversation 1 minute earlier, so it was too late! Ny husband left it at that, to avoid upsetting the rest of our party. Two of the three drinks orders arrived. My cocktail glass was chipped in five places, but again, I decided let it go. Two of the food orders arrived and they were ok. Ten minutes later the third food order arrived. The child’s meal was on a ridiculously hot plate, so we swapped it with mine, as I had finished eating by that point. My granddaughter's chicken burger was so overcooked, she left most of it. After enquiring about the missing drinks, we were told to reorder them as they had lost the ticket. They eventually arrived, after everyone had finished eating. Puddings were ordered and delivered quite quickly. Our dinner plates however, had not been cleared and were finally removed while pudding was being eaten. The service we received, and the attitude of the manager, was unbelievably bad. None of us complained as we didn’t want to upset the birthday girl, but we won’t be rushing back anytime soon.

I have been a customer at the boatman in a number of its various guises over the years. When I had a boat I used to moor near it and eat, as well as the occasional family celebrations. I'm not sure how long the current owners/managers have been in charge but the place has certainly taken a massive turn for the better. The welcome is friendly and keep a good range of beers and ciders. There is quite a comprehensive wine menu as well. The food is like that which you would expect from a chain but so much more. If you want to deviate from the normal menu by adding or taking items away, instead of the usual rolling of eyes or heavy sighing the are happy to try and oblige. It's the usual take your table number to the bar and pay and in very short order a pleasant member of staff will bring your food to the table. On Sundays there is a carvery, the usual suspects on the meat platter and a mountain of vegetables to have a go at. Oh and if you've got room try one of their sweets, the chocolate and orange bread and butter pudding is sensational. Great food, good happy staff and a lovely location (next to the canal) can't beat it.

Visited for lunch with 5 work colleagues, arrived As soon as open and placed orders straight away as limited timeframe. The pub filled quickly and we waited , waited and waited ! Other tables seemed to be getting food all around us , our orders were simple , bearing this in mind they did have to be cooked and not just thrown in a microwave. Eventually after over 40 mins some over cooked chicken, re fried chips , cremated burger and stale buns arrived !!! I appreciate we should have complained but as I wasn't paying I chose not to , had to scurry back to work , thankfully no time for pudding!! There may be a manner of excuses but marstons is a good chain I've eaten and drank with them fairly widely and they can usually be relied on to provide quality! This was just not good enough , plus the menus were tatty and tables sticky which wasn't exactly inviting !

We decided to come here as we couldn't be bothered to cook. The menu was varied and reasonably priced. Being lunch time it wasn't crowded. The staff were polite and friendly and the weather was warm. We are glad we came and shall come back again soon

Went along Saturday evening 5.30. Busy , decided because of having our 5yr old granddaughter with us to sit outside so she could play outside in the children's playground. Found an empty table outside in one of the rotunda eating/sitting areas. It turned out someone else had eaten there previously and the table was what I can only describe as "dirty". There was also dirty ,used napkins lying on the floor again must have been seen by the staff but ignored. Went into bar to order drinks and asked staff to be kind enough to come outside and clean table as we were about to order food. My wife in the meantime had also asked 2 other staff members if they could clean the table as had sauce/drinks/beers stains on it. again ignored. On ordering food at the bar asked for a cloth to clean the table myself was given a dry piece of cloth to do this with. Food ordered waited 25mins, wife's ribs/chips/onion rings barely warm granddaughters pizza and chips the same I h a d ordered 2 eggs with my gammon and only one brought out. All in all a complete and utter shambles the only upside was our granddaughter had a great time outside playing with new friends.

Have been to the Boat House today for my partners birthday, we have both worked all day and was very much looking forward to it. We both ordered steak, he rump steak and myself sirloin. The first thing I noticed was the way the food was almost chucked on the table putting the food on the plate in disorder worse than a greesy spoon cafe. The next thing was that the supposed grilled tomato was a raw salad tomato, the waiter did go back and get a tomato grilled for us. The onion rings were soggy and definitely microwaved and the chips were anaemic. Worst of all I asked for medium steak, when I cut into the steak there was blood, it was rare. I hardly touched my meal, the only good thing was the side salad and that was because it was not cooked, by the way the side salad is the tiniest amount in a little dish. My partner ate all his although he will eat anything although he was not happy at all with the meal and the portions are very small for a large man like him. We certainly did not tip, and we are usually generous with tips. Maybe there is a new chef at the Boat House as it was good when we visited a year ago. We stopped on the way hom at Ashby Fields fish and chip shop in Daventry and it was lovely. We will certainly not be visiting the Boat House for another meal anytime soon.

Visited recently after having had good steaks a number of times in the past. We were advised that there were no steaks left or Sunday roasts (early afternoon on a Sunday). We then attempted to order other items off the menu, one of which they had also run out of. After finally ordering food that was available one meal came out stone cold the other came out looking like the leftovers from last nights dinner with about 2tbsp rice and not a lot more sauce. We both had puddings as were still rather hungry after this to find that the ice cream had that defrosted and re-frozen taste/ texture complete with lumps of solid ice in it. The staff however were extremely helpful and apologetic.

After travel problems four of us arrived just before 10pm at night and were amazed that they served until 10pm and gave us a warm welcome at this time of night. It was "steak special" night and 2 of us ordered that. A choice of rump, sirloin or gammon. It came with a bottle of wine for just £20. The other two ordered from the 2-4-1 and both enjoyed the meals which were more than ample. We were too late for dessert but that didn't worry us. Coffees were provided.

Despite being 2 for 1 this is a con. Try the other Marston pubs and you will find the portions are larger and therefore better value for money overall, just compare Sunday lunch on a 2 for 1 against Middlemoore Farm. The last time we went here it was quite with one staff member on duty. She was trying to take table orders, serve food and serve at the bar. We were promised she would come and take our drink order, I gave up waiting and returned to the bar to get our drinks, we still had to wait for our food order to be taken and then again for it to be served. When we got our meal the butter was missing from both meals and despite asking a second member of staff (who suddenly appeared for about 10 minutes) it never arrived. The food was acceptable but the service was very poor. we did get a free drink but whilst nice did not compensate for the long waits.

It has been many months since i visited this pub with my wife and relatives and it has taken sometime to get over what could be the worst dining experience in my life. We chose the al la carte menu, minimum of four people, to get to the point the food was horrible, absolutely disgusting and a pathetic amateur attempt at providing a prestige service. I did take this up with the manager, after a very heated discussion when he failed to accept the blame, he went on the defensive and eventually tried to manipulate the situation to his advantage by accusing me of making threats against him. The Olde Coach House has never been a great pub and even after a refurb it still looks and feels dank, I felt sorry for my mother in law and her sister who paid the £180 bill, they were robbed, we all were.

We had a really lovely B&B stay here. The rooms are in a separate building to the pub - so nice and quiet. Super comfy beds and cosy bed linen. The breakfast was fantastic - a perfect old school English Breakfast - with butchers sausages and black pudding, eggs cooked how you like them, hash browns, tomatoes..... Yummy. The staff made us feel very welcome and we were well looked after. They were particularly kind to our children - sorting them out with Hot Chocolates and unusual breakfast requirements. They even went to the trouble of posting home some much loved cuddly toys that had been left behind. Thank you Billy and Team.

This venue is perfect for many occasions, but I met with Karli to discuss a booking for my mums funeral gathering. Karli and the other staff I met were all lovely. They could not have been more polite, helpful and genuinely accommodating. The room was partitioned to accommodate our smaller gathering but had the bar. It was completely private. They set it up perfectly and just as I had asked. We chose the hot food option as many of our family had travelled in on the day and it was superb homemade food. I had 4 vegetarians, 2 gluten free and 1 lactose intolerant and all their needs were met .Excellent value and good portions too. With tea and mini homemade cakes to follow it allowed us all to enjoy chatting and reminiscing about our mum with family & friends. Everyone who attended complemented the food, so thank you Lisa, head chef. I cannot rate this venue more highly or its staff, thank you all for making a difficult occasion go smoothly. We booked for 7.30pm for 4 including our two guests. We shared two starters which were both very good. Of our four main dishes, one was mediocre and for the other we asked for the dip to be on the side only. It wasn't and the dish was rejected. It returned quickly, which made me wonder how it could have been recooked. Neither of the two waiters checked if it was OK. There were no specials which I like to choose from and the massala fries only had a sprinkling of salt and pepper. We were given dessert menus but the waiter did not return for the order. We had to come to the bar for the bill. On leaving, we noticed the waiters were busy cleaning another room. It's unlikely we will return, particularly with guests. If you needed us to leave at a certain time, you could have advised us when we booked on the phone. Meal with 2 alcoholic and 2 soft drinks £107 plus service. NB This is the response we gave to an email requesting feedback. We had a reply saying it would be investigated and we will receive a response but nothing.

I thought I would try this pub one more time seeing as it's the only one in the village yet again the nasty individual thatworks/runs this sespit was at it again. This time it was a lone man. Absolute disgusting behaviour. Why is the brewery employing someone who knows nothing about hospitality or village live. Time to boycott till the brewery steps in.
