We have been to the Chequers for the last 2 weekends, Today we had the Sunday lunch and it was incredible, we have been made to feel extremely welcome on both occasions and this will now be our local pub to eat. So accommodating for kids also with a great play area. Thank you so much - Jess & Tom x

We’ve been to The Chequers a few times now for Sunday lunch and we have not been disappointed at all. There’s a choice of three roasts and a vegetarian option and the food is absolutely delicious and really good value. In addition, the staff are very welcoming and the pub is dog friendly ( a good idea to book if you’re taking a dog).

This is our new local pub although we came here quite a few times before moving to the village. It makes a big difference to an area when there is a really nice local pub. The food is really good and the staff are always friendly and welcoming. You can sit in the pub or in the big garden. There is a big playground for kids to play in and most importantly, the pub is dog friendly. Highly recommended to visit if you’re ever in the area.

We visited this evening for our wedding anniversary. We have not been able to come since lockdown but we’re very much looking forward to celebrating this evening. It appears that the Pub has been taking over since our last visit and the menu has been changed. No starters and the menu can only really be described as pub grub. Unfortunately they now do not stand out against any other chain restaurant. My main course was lukewarm and when I confirm that my dessert would be served hot, I was assured it would be, it came cold. We did point out that the main course was not hot and were advised to let them know in future. However from experience when one does this the other person is left to finish their meal on their own. This restaurant has always been our go to place for family celebrations and we even bought some American friends there to show them what English pubs are really like. As I said before there is nothing that makes them stand out and unfortunately we will not be back

It felt like ownership had just changed. We went in for a pub lunch on a Sunday, so roasts were the only option, but there was basically no option for vegetarians. When challenged, they offered some frozen falafel with the veg from the other roasts (and the same meat gravy...) which was just sub par for 2022. The other roasts were disappointing with fairly meagre portions and average meat. The waitress other hand was brilliant and was working super hard and was very friendly. Overall it needs a bit of a refresh...

We visited between Christmas & New Year 2019, and had a very good meal of fish and chips - the batter was especially good, light and crisp and not the usual stodge found in so many places. Because of the time of the year was a very limited menu. What was served was excellent, hot and tasty and a good portion size, the fish flaked beautifully . Staff were friendly and sociable in a very pleasant natural way, and not the forced patronising interest that you find in so many pubs. It is not a grand place, the décor could do with an update, but being a rural village pub, it probably does not get much in the way of townies expecting a chintzy place with bouncy castles, nor kids running around everywhere - if that's what you are looking for, this is not for you! Just good honest homely pub food

Typical village pub that’s not been ‘’gastroised’ yet! Lots of old fashioned charm, friendly service and a few draught beers to suit most real ale enthusiasts! We didn’t eat but the menu looked typical pub grub and reasonably priced, so might well try on a future visit. Convenient car park (adjacent to the main road) and a few spaces outside of the pub itself - but we were conscious that the pub is located in a relatively peaceful residential area, so if arriving by car I am sure both the landlord and the neighbours would prefer the main car park is used.

We had a lovely Sunday lunch in this characterful village pub with great service and hearty portions of food. It's not very appealing from the outside and the interior decor is a flash back to the eighties but don't let that put you off as the owners and staff were friendly and it's clearly popular with the locals. The 3 course lunch with drinks for the two of us came to £40 which is great value and we will be sure to return again in the future.

Our food was over an hour late, lots of other tables who ordered after ours got theirs, when asked how much longer we had to wait, her response was well u hadnt booked so not her fault, asked for complementary drinks, she refused this completely & walked off without any apology or some kind off gesture. When the food did arrive my dads food was wrong, he only asked for ham egg & chips, but got gammon, again we complained & her response was well thats how we do it here and again she walked off !!!!!

We visited the pub on recommendation and everything was lovely until I complained about my steak having too much Grissel through it ! The owner Gordon was the Chef that night and challenged me in a disbelieving manner ! He stormed off with my plate. I asked the waitress to tell him that I did not want another one, he came out of the kitchen shouting " Well what do you want then ? " . My partner was very upset telling him he was very rude. He ruined what started off as a very pleasant evening. He has since deleted my review on his website hence the reason I've posted one on here. Not impressed the first time, but thought I would give it another go.The staff were fairly pleasant, but the lady behind the bar....VERY rude.I had a glass of wine, then asked for a glass of tap water, only to be told "they don't do tap water" then she told me I could have a bottle of water, which I accepted. She plonked a small bottle of water in front me, then a glass, no offer if ice or lemon! The bottle was warm. She then charged me £1.25p!!I then asked if we could gave a jug of water on the table? She did not like that. Again told me they don't do tap water!! Unbelievable! I was not a happy customer, and will certainly not go back there.
