Spencer Arms in Daventry

So cold no fire lit. Food terrible. Used this place for years. It is so sad to see it now. Needs a refurbishment and new ownership. Feel very sad a village pub is falling apart.

We've been going to this pub on and off for over 40 years! Like any pub it has passed through good and bad phases. We haven't been for a while so we're pleased to discover it is an up phase with a whole new line up of staff. We were welcomed warmly by Hassan and all the staff were friendly. Our drinks came quickly and our food order was taken as soon as we were ready. The food came promptly and we both enjoyed an excellent roast - turkey for me and my husband had a massive rib of beef! I would have liked less gravy so next time I'll ask to have it in a jug. The desserts were tasty but we needed a long walk afterwards. We had our dog with us so had a table in the bar area which is just as nice.

Ten of us went to celebrate my Dad's very special 90th birthday!The staff were very attentive and kind and the meals were absolutely superb!!Everyone cleared their plates and really enjoyed their meals!!

We had a meal here on a Wednesday afternoon. My friend is vegetarian and allergic to onions and they staff could not have been more helpful with advice about the dishes. We were served by Chloe and Colette who were lovely

Excellent evening, served by Colette and Hassan. They were very attentive if we needed anything yet left us to enjoy our evening. The food was delicious and my tricky to please children had empty plates. Thank you for creating a lovely atmosphere - we had a fabulous meal and all for a very reasonable price. Definitely recommend

Food has improved very much recently

I have visited this venue a number of times and always been very happy with the food. However a couple of weeks ago I took a friend for the first time and we both ordered the sirloin steak which was a huge disappointment. We complained at the time & was told sorry. I rang the manager the next day and was told a voucher would be sent to me in recompence. I am still waiting despite ringing again. Not happy as I have always been a loyal customer..

A lovely quiet country pub, with a beautiful restaurant. Welcome was amazing, food was delicious and the chef even came to say hello to us!! Hassan, Chloe, Aaliyah and the chef; Szymon were amazing. Chloe did amazingly at letting us know she was new and by giving us a heads up, made us feel at ease. All gave us attentive service, made my mum feel really special for her birthday. All food was absolutely perfect, we had turkey, 2 rib of beef and a pork roast. Everything cooked perfectly and came out quickly enough while leaving us enough of a break to feel paced. Really impressed and definitely will be back!! Next time we will have to try the deserts as they looked amazing but we were way too full!!!!

Very quiet little place in a nice setting. The staff were very nice and friendly. The food was a bit average, didn't really seem that fresh. I wouldn't go back to be honest

Lovely decor and a good range of drinks on a quiet Friday afternoon

As a local pub to us we thought we’d give it a go. The food was fine but felt very much like chain pub food. I had a steak but I wouldn’t have it again. The team were friendly and the service was quick.

The staff were amazing and the food was good. Really good atmosphere accomodating of families and pets. The baby changing/disabled washroom had a strong smell but overall clean. The nappy bin probably needed to be emptied.

Lovely food reasonable priced too!! Good choices of drinks too and plenty parking!!

Pleasant country pub with pleasant food and great drink selection outdoor seating in the garden. Clean toilets large dinning area with lots of choices for every occasion.

Had a great anniversary meal with my husband. Everything was wonderful it was just a shame that there were very few diners on the night we visited. Aaliyah and Hassan were great hosts. We will definitely be visiting again

Idyllic Spot for a Lovely Meal with Friends and Family. We has a wonderful meal here. Specials were huge lamb chops with bubble and squeak. Plus lots of lovely veg. So much choice for all courses. Hard to decide. Service was with a chat and a friendly warm welcome by Hassam and Lean. Made a change to have a conversation with people who actually love their job and want to interact with their customers. It was so lovely. We are going back to try their other delicious choices. Oh nearly forgot. The bakewell warm tart is out of this world. A must have next time. Thank you guys for making our normally quiet lunch so warm and friendly. Well done. x

Absolutely nice place to eat and chill

Delicious food, nice decor throughout. Spotlessly clean toilets. Used some Tesco clubcard vouchers to get near £40 off the bill.

Decided to have a late Lunch, we decided here as we have been a few times before. The place is very good, staff were excellent, food and drinks very good.

Met with friends I had Great meal of lamb followed by apple tart.

Cute little spot staff friendly and helpful had lamb rump and the Shepard pie was LUSH. Would highly recommend. Will be back again soon

I had not visited this pub for many years so expected some changes, however I was very disappointed. We ordered the sharing cheese platter - this was put on the table with no side plates - had to ask for them. For the main course we both ordered the sea bream with new potatoes and vegetables. Our plates had obviously been sitting under a warming lamp as the food was dried, the fish was over cooked and we could only eat half of it. The staff were friendly, but seemed to prefer talking to each other at the bar than ensuring all was well with their customers - of who there were only a few on the evening we went. I won't be visiting again

We had a really lovely meal and the staff were excellent. The food was fresh and cared about. The kid's food was brilliant quality and excellent value. Very very pleased with our evening there.

Great service. All staff are really friendly and attentive. Steak & Ale pie was a bit fatty, but the pudding made up for it.

Food is reasonably priced and good quality would recommend and they do children's menu

Had Sunday roast, it was nice and staff were lovely however service was quite slow, took a while to take food orders. Food was plentiful but a little bland, definitely needed a lot of gravy but I guess that's a personal preference. I would visit again and recommend though as it was a nice place and clean. 🤗

1st time we'd been to the Spencer Arms and we'll definitely be going again. Staff were friendly, attentive and informative without going overboard. Food was well presented and tasted lovely.

Great food and friendly service

Went for lunch, just "2 old ladies". It was quiet midweek, shame about the road closure coming from Northampton. Beth, waitress, was excellent. She waited while we made our choices. Lots on the menu and we finally chose a cheese toastie and a chicken n bacon panini. Both served with a good salad and fries. Also have a good choice of non-alcoholic drinks.

Visited with a friend early evening. We were looked after by Zach who was friendly, attentive and went out of his way to make sure we enjoyed our visit. The food was excellent, so all round a positive experience.

If you like overcooked microwaved veg and well done meats then this is the place for you. Plus clueless staff.

Awful Sunday roast. Ate at around 17.45-18.00. Can only assume we got the “left overs”! The slow cooked rib of beef was fine, as was the Yorkshire pudding. As for the the veg. Carrots well over cooked. Cabbage okay. I like crunchy veg. But the broccoli was virtually raw. Knife couldn’t cut through the stem! How they had the nerve to serve what they claim to be roast potatoes is beyond belief. Looked like they had been reheated more than once and tasted liked cold chips. Inedible. I didn’t complain as we were being “treated” as a thank you and did not want to embarrass them. So disappointed and that’s another venue not to go to again

School dinner food on a Tuesday, we should have complained, still in awe of the shape of the gammon and then discovering that it was a piece of pineapple thought it was a lump of cheese, service was very poor

We were staying in the area for a couple of days and decided to book an evening meal out. We had the Sunday Roast and we’re not disappointed. We we’re well looked after by a lovely young lady - Alice.

Lovely meal with excellent service. Very welcoming staff and reasonably priced food. Thank to our charming waitress Alice.

Had the smothered chicken. Which was supposed to have cheese on and come with onion rings. Alas it arrived with neither. I had to point out the obvious to the waiter who had not realised !! Very disappointing and the chicken was like rubber. We had waited such a long time to eat so it was pointless to send it back at this stage. Based on our experience this evening regarding of taking off all the meals, a group of 4 as a gesture of good will I will not return. More staff is needed along with attention to detail.

Enjoyed a lovely meal at the Spencer Arms on Friday night although our first two choices of starters were unavailable. We had the gammon and fish and chips for mains, both of which were tasty and perfectly cooked. A special thanks to our waitress, Leah, who was very friendly and efficient.

I met up with a special friend for lunch today at the Spencer Arms. The pub was very welcoming, clean and bright and nicely decorated We had a nice roast dinner each along with a sweet and sticky dessert ( it had to be done)! Our waitress Colette was warm and lovely and was a pleasure to deal with, nothing was too much trouble for her, she is a credit to the pub. I would not hesitate to recommend this lovely country pub.

Went for mothering Sunday. Service was excellent and food was piping hot and really tasty .plenty of gravy too. Wasn't rushed either as I was expecting on mother's day to be moved along quick.lovely atmosphere

Pleasant atmosphere, excellent service. Food generally improved since last visit, as has service. Food good - just two quibbles. Smothered chicken portion size very small. Also, bit of a cheek to charge me a pound for the tiny scoop of ice cream I asked for...

Just home from a lovely Mother’s Day lunch with mum and had to say it was lovely! Greeted so early on arrival and seated and served straight away. Our server was Colette and she was fabulous! Thank you for making the meal so enjoyable.

Went there for Sunday lunch whilst I was visiting friends in Northampton and I was blown away by the quality of the food and atmosphere. Loved it.

the food was amazing and at my table quickly. the atmosphere was amazing and the staff were perfect. couldn’t have asked for a nicer night out.

Poor service, lipstick stain on glass, when asked for another drink it took 20 mins, plates left in front of us for a long time and not asked if food was okay, food was brought at the wrong time.

Glass has lipstick on, poor service, order was messed up and in the wrong order, plates were not collected for ages, had to remind for a drink that was asked for and didn’t come till 30 minutes later, was discriminated against because of our age (put in the side table), eventually asked about our food when nearly finished our dinner, waitresses were rude and did not communicate with each other, waited ages to be seen to see what we wanted to order.

Sammy & Lia took care of us today. Food was amazing and served in a timely fashion despite being busy. Super efficient service as per usual. We ate here last weekend Sammy was working super hard - every employers dream staff member, going above & beyond with a smile on her face. Will return as this is local to our own business & such an all round pleasant experience!
