The best restaurants serving British food in England

Booked a table here as we were going to a Valentines Concert at Lighthouse - we have always tended to do this as there is nowhere else within easy walking distance and it means we can be sure of a parking space if we arrive a couple of hours before the show begins in the theatre. The day beforehand we were sent an e-mail to say the menu was a special valentines one, and although the food on offer wasn't our favourite food we decided to stick with it. I might also add that with the booking comes an instruction to say that we can only have our table for an hour and a half. We arrived ten minutes early and saw that there were already two other couples seated, so we went in and were shown to our table. We chose our starter and main, but decided not to order a third course until we'd finished our mains, in case we were too full. The first course arrived very promptly, and was good - and this, combined with the fact that they had obviously made an effort to make the restaurant look cosy, lulled us into a sadly short-lived sense of security. I repeat that we had been told our table would only be available to us for an hour and a half, so after waiting another twenty minutes for our main courses, during which time we were fairly certain that we saw it being delivered to another table, I alerted a member of staff and said I thought we might have been forgotten. Off she went to the kitchen, and within a couple of minutes it arrived. So far so good, sort of. Our waitress was apparently new, and only on her second ever shift, according to what we heard her telling other people. This does not excuse the fact that an hour and a half after we had arrived, by which time we should have been leaving, she had managed to completely ignore us even when she went to adjacent tables, so we were left for almost half an hour staring at our uncollected plates and with no opportunity to order a sweet or coffee. Eventually we were able to attract the attention of another member of staff and explain that we had been ignored and that it was now too late for us to have a sweet or coffee as the concert was starting within a short time. She was extremely apologetic and spoke to the person I believe was in charge, coming back to tell us that we were being given a 10% discount for the appalling service. That was kind of them, but it was also the last time we will ever eat there. It has had various incarnations over the years but there have always been problems of one sort or another, and frankly we have had enough. This place could be a little gold mine if it was run properly, but...

Yo estaba comercial en la ciudad y pasamos un poco de tiempo para matar así que decidimos BHS cafe una prueba para el almuerzo. Solamente he comido aquí una vez antes en esa ocasión elegir una papa de la chaqueta. No fue la mejor, pero me pareció que cosas podrían haber mejorado después de todo este tiempo, así que pensé que me gustaría darle otra oportunidad. Gran error! Pedí una patata, brécol y queso torta del menú comidas calientes a un costo de £5.50 . Me dijeron que me podría haber dos lados con esto y me ofrecieron 'chips' o 'puré' (realmente! El plato ya o patata). Me decidí por guisantes y verduras variadas y pedimos una taza de té Earl Grey, por un costo total de 7,15 libras que es mucho para un almuerzo de calidad sub-estándar. La mayoría de las personas que pedimos comida, etc. estaban pagando en media de £7+. Me senté y comenzaron a comer mi comida pero descubrí que la comida estaba fría, y parecía haber sido colocados en un plato frío. Volví al mostrador para decir que la comida estaba fría, ni siquiera cálido, y ya que estaba en las comidas calientes menú, descripciones comerciales vienen a la mente! El miembro del personal que se ocupó de la reclamación se disculpó y me dijeron que lo 'calor que para mí". Supongo que meter en unos minutos, pero porque el papa, brécol y tarta de queso era en un plato individual, realmente no recogida mucho calor. ¡Qué calor había en las verduras no duró mucho. El miembro del personal que trajo mi re-climatizada comida a mi mesa otra vez se disculpó, pero la expresión de su rostro no estaba en el menos auténtico, sino más bien un aspecto de 'indiferencia'. Me sugirió que tal vez sus fogones no funcionaban adecuadamente. Tengo que decir que este café es una farsa de la industria del servicio de comida. No puedo decidir si es pobres los niveles de personal, la falta de formación/compromiso por parte del personal o complacencia de el personal pero sea lo que sea, es lo que sirven es de los más pobres calidad que he experimentado. Puede ser que sólo así comprar un sándwich frío de los panaderos cercanas y pagar mucho menos. Venga en BHS, dinero, esto podría ser una pequeña mina de oro pero estás dejándoos mucho. I am contactar Compass Group Reino Unido cuyo nombre aparece en el recibo, ya que puede que les interesaría saber cómo mal están siendo representados en esta excusa para un café en Maidstone. NUNCA me dan a esta cafetería mi negocio nuevo.

The fillings are ridiculous, i'm sure they counted the individual sweetcorn on my sandwich. I've eaten subways around the world and Halifax subway is by far the worst

Deliciosa cena de pescado servido a nosotros por el personal encantador. Los precios parecen razonables para la zona y son porciones de tamaño decente.

Them cake rolls in the glass cabinet are years old, was soooo post off to get served with rushty smelling old products 😡😡😡😡😡😡😡

Looking at past reviews I wasn’t expecting anything too fancy but the buffet breakfast was actually not bad at all! Good selection of the usual hot food and a good ‘cold’ selection if cereals etc. The only bad thing I can say is there was no black pudding! Still good though.

Ordered fish and chips and a chicken shish kebab. Chips were cold, salad did not come as requested and the chicken was dry, did not eat. When I called to discuss with restaurant very rude lady at the end of the phone. Would not ever eat here again, absolutely disgusting service and food.

Inconsistent and incorrectly made food

Don’t bother! Bought a box of cookies as we really craved some Bens Cookies, but we don’t have a store in Norwich, so settled for Millie’s. Really overpriced, cookies were tiny, they all broke in the box. The taste is non existent. Save your money!

Después de 8 horas de caminata paramos aquí para tomar una pinta antes de volver al auto. La camarera tenía las habilidades de comunicación pública de alguien que no debería estar en el oficio. Sí, estamos bajo las reglas de COVID, pero no es necesario que nos ordenes, todos conocemos las reglas, solo muestra un poco de paciencia. Conduzca por la carretera y deténgase en otro lugar.

Not great ordered a bacon and egg toasted sandwich decided to eat in and already regretted it as soon as I sat down at the dirty table with dirty chairs the walls also needed a wipe the food came I wasn't sure what was blacker my bacon ,my toast or the bright pink door infront of me. Then I started on the sandwich which took 3 attempts to break through the toast let alone the bacon my egg was more dried up then the decor can of pop saved my insides won't be coming back should of gone to greggs

The quality has changed at last! the food is fresher and tastes even better! and is defiantly worth paying extra for. The portion sizes are great, ideal for sharing between two!

We had our wedding at the hotel, and everyone commented on how amazing the food was. Lots of choice and excellent service. The staff couldn't have done any more for us. We also stayed for breakfast which was a buffet. Everything was warm and fresh, and there was lots of choice. Would definitely recommend

Overpriced, soggy batter, not that clean, eddy to park outside, office licence next door. Sadly world not come back.
