Myself, my husband and my two young children stayed at the Pen-y-bont hotel over the bank Holiday weekend and can't recommend it enough. The location is spectacular, it doesn't get much better. Brian and Angela the owners of the hotel are fabulous, nothing was to much for them and they made us feel very welcome. Compliments to Brian who is also the chef, his food was delicious! The owners are very knowledgeable on the area and can give you directions to places only locals know about which adds just that little bit extra to your holiday. Please don't hesitate to book this hotel. You won't regret it!

Lovely setting, lovely staff. Homemade tomato soup was very peppery - so much so that I couldn’t taste the tomatoes. Bread roll was ok. Hubby had vegan pasty which he really enjoyed. Shared a fruit scone which was not nice. There was a hint of vanilla (unnecessary) and an underlying taste which was horrible. I couldn’t finish mine.

This is a handy spot for a break on the way to Inverness. Quite basic but not too bad. Plenty car parking. Not far from the main road. Could do with a Saltire or two. Also a bit of information about the town and the local and Scottish drink and food they serve. Not sure why it is listed as a British and not a Scottish cafe.

Really fun night doing the Trust 5 course tasting menu. What really made the experience for us was our waiter Parina who went above and beyond to make sure that we were having a good night. Very lovely person and hard working. Explained all the dishes in a fun and energetic way. I had been stressed about something else before I came in and she immediately put me at ease.

This hotel is dated, dirty and damp. We stayed here for 2 nights bed and breakfast, we were not checked in politely, just given our key to No 24. There was a ‘dirty smell’ in the room and the window had been left open which is a good job because it was that dirty you couldn’t see through it. The bedding was adequate, but the TV didn’t work. There were watermarks on the wall from a leak that had not been re painted. The bathroom was dated and had visible signs of damp. There also was an electric towel rail that had black insulation tape wrapped round the electric cable connection, with a PAT test sticker on it dated 2018!!!! You only need portable appliances to be PAT tested! The bar area was not the best and the staff ate their meals at the table in the bar and one of them even regularly took his blood pressure with a portable monitor. We came down for breakfast and were met with an abundance of opened large cereal boxes and uncovered fruit and cheeses which were very tempting to the many flies in the lobby area next to the ‘dining room’. We sat at a table but the carpet was that dirty and sticky the chair stuck to it!!! ….we didn’t eat breakfast!! It was the worst hotel I have ever stayed in the owners have left it to rack and ruin and it’s a shame as it’s a historical building in a nice little town.

Unfortunately the the two functions took priority today, as we waited over an hour for basic, mediocre food. Couldn’t cut the roast beef, needed a steak knife! The bill still included service charge! Not good. No warning when we arrived that there was a delay in the kitchen. 3 different excuses given for this. What a shame!

Leaf had untapped potential, but unfortunately, it’s been let down by inconsistent management and a lack of connection with the local community. The food is average for the price, and the atmosphere leans more towards a tea-drinking crowd rather than the lively, inclusive community pub it could be. Social media engagement is minimal, which doesn’t help attract or retain patrons. Repeatedly disappointing experiences have been disheartening, especially for the staff, who are clearly trying their best under challenging circumstances. With such a prime location and a fantastic beer garden, it’s frustrating to see it failed to resonate with locals within walking distance. Hopefully, someone with a better vision and understanding of the community will step in to revive its potential, ideally in time for summer when the outdoor space can shine.

Absolutely dreadful! Advertised a la carte menu replaced with a 'bar' menu. Took the waiter 15 minutes to bring a menu and ask if we'd like drinks 40 minutes for food to arrive which was not hot. The pork belly my colleague had was wrapped in gooey fat not crackling, the pumpkin sauce was a teaspoon of orange 'something' and the seasonal veg was mashed potato and some peas. The chicken burger was deep fried and tasted of old fryer fat as did the 'tepid' skin in chips. Presentation of the burger was non existent and the two tiny leaves of lettuce were brown. This was fed back to the waiter when he finally returned to our table his response was he'd mention it to the Chef. The after dinner treat of sticky toffee pudding was solid and rubbery, not moist. The tiniest bit of ice cream and a token gesture at the sauce all was tepid. The dining room was cold and drafty. The decor tired and wall paper peeling off the ceiling and walls. Utterly awful experience with nobody interested in the overall shoddiness of the service and food. Really disappointing, especially as this is the closest hotel to work. A real missed opportunity for this Hotel and Restaurant.
