I told the servers that I was very gluten intolerant and they assured me that the kitchen knew about cross contamination. I ordered a cheese toasty and chips. The toasty was excellent and I wouldn’t have known it was gluten free. The service was swift, efficient and friendly. I had no problem with eating the food there which is fantastic because if I eat gluten it takes me about a fortnight to recover. Highly recommended.

We visited as a family of 5, with our 6 dogs, seeing it was dog friendly and had a riverside garden. On enquiring, we were told that the garden wasn't really open as it was early in the season and the tables were being painted, but we were welcome to use it. We had teas, coffees and a plate of sandwiches and the staff were helpful and welcoming. The garden itself is well presented and will clearly be beautiful once they have finished sprucing it up for the summer. The food and drinks were good and some staff were keen to fuss our dogs as we left!

A long time since I've been and it's still a very pleasant experience. We were greeted as long-lost friends and the coffee was delicious. Prices for a small establishment seemed very reasonable and I'm just sorry we didn't have time to 'indulge'. Will definitely not leave it so long to visit again.

Popped in here for a quick cup of coffee and cake on a recent visit. The owner is bonkers when it comes to covid. Signs everywhere telling you not to remove your mask until your order is brought to you (which will take an extraordinarily long time even when you're the only customers) and even more in the toilet to inform you they will only be cleaning their toilets once daily so you have to clean it after use for them. Please don't expect your waitresses to be wearing their mask correctly though, these rules are clearly for customers only. When your very basic food and drinks are bought out to you by your surly waitress, expect to be given your bill and the card machine immediately and payment to be demanded. Very bizarre. This is probably because when you finally tuck into your order it will end up being wrong and if you've paid it's harder to send it back, not that you'd dare considering the vibes coming off the waitress. The place has the ambiance of funeral parlour which doesn't help either. Overall, shocking. Would not return. Ever.

Came here when visiting the area for lunch. Service was a little confusing and took long time to take our order, decided we would go with seating down the hill by the river for the view which was great. Food came quickly and was really tasty and was fresh (club sandwich superb) only downside is the waiter spilt the Pepsi on the brownie and didn’t notice, was such a walk back up the hill we ended up eating it but it wasn’t good. Overall great food staff friendly but service a little lacking.

Ok, admittedly we are in unprecedented times, but this does not excuse poor unwelcoming service. The man behind the till was getting very cross and stressed with staff for not giving customers wooden spoons to identify tables!!! Apparently, according to him, “it’s easy a fool can do it” in a very Basil Fawlty style!!!! We ordered very basic Sandwiches, shame the price wasn’t basic. Very expensive, To top it all we waited over 40 minutes for our food to arrive. The sandwich really wasn’t anything to write about, considering it cost over £6 for just a white bread sandwich!! A very very poor side salad, 1/2 a tomato and swamped in dressings. When we asked if they were taking part in the Goverment “Eat out to help out” initiative, the waitress looked totally disrespectful and almost disgusted that we had asked. To sum up, very poor service, poor food, very expensive and a long wait to get served. DONT Bother!

We booked in for a Sunday lunch - giving our choice of meat a week in advance. The interior is clean and functional, a bit austere and cafe-style not pretending to be a restaurant. It was comparatively early and a stormy day and so not surprising it was quite empty. The young ladies behind the counter greeted us in a friendly manner and confirmed our order. We wondered what our meal would be like.... It was the nearest thing to good home cooking we have had - outside the home! The only difference was the amount - too much for us to manage with eight different vegetable accompaniments and Yorkshire pudding to go with tender lamb. There was no hint of overcooked veg left steaming for hours before serving. The cauliflower cheese was a particular favourite.

Small cafe on High Street. Staff didn’t go out of their way to be welcoming. Food was expensive considering it’s a cafe. Lots of empty tables with reserved on them but nobody sitting there. Only table was tiny next to the stairs. Wasn’t offered a nicer table or view despite them being available. Toilet was downstairs next to the kitchen. Had lots of rules and signs which was off putting. They did have table outside with a great view of river but staff don’t work there unless it’s warm. Shame as it was dry and sunny in October.

From start to finish a very contradicting experience. Says on the window dog friendly but after the staff member said you better shake him off he let us in begrudgingly. We were banished to the front window with the smallest table in Wales, which then preceded to fall apart on my wife, so being the trooper she is put it back together. Ordered 3 meals and asked for a large pot of tea for all of us. He then said .. what 3 meals and 1 drink? I said yes as that will be plenty he said no it's for 1 person. I said ok 3 teas then. Tea comes, enough tea to keep the guests of the last supper for the night. So just wanted us to pay for 3 drinks not 1. Food was average, sausages and hash brown burnt. Doesn't take card. All a bit underwhelming. The guy just looked like he didnt want to be there.

The dog-friendly option to sit in the garden and take in the stunning view was perfect. We were also very pleased with the quality and price of the food and drink on offer. There are great veggie and vegan friendly options on offer. The food was really tasty. Staff were friendly enough but were very slow and a bit unenthusiastic about customer service. One of our orders was missing part of the meal, we told the waiter and he went to retrieve the missing item; though there seemed little enthusiasm in doing so. The only thing that really needs sorting out is the lack of card payment. It is not right in this day and age to not accept chip and pin. I've worked for a small business and I understand the dynamics. The excuse is not good enough. I would be happy to pay a little bit extra to account for card payment facilities - it's totally worth it. Other than that, it was a reallly pleasant experience and a great place to stop for lunch or afternoon tea.

Title sums it up really, 1/2 way though my panini I found a short thick hair (I’m praying it was from a beard) under my panini. I told the very friendly and polite waiter who apologised and offered to bring me anything else (I assume free of charge but it wasn’t specified). Felt quite sick at this point so I refused. No apology from manager etc or offer of a refund which I thought was bad. I went to the counter before leaving and asked for a partial refund for my meal. Incredibly grumpy man serving just said ‘why?’ So I said it was because there was a hair in my food. He replied somewhat sarcastically ‘well where is it?!’ I replied that I had given the meal to the other waiter who took it away which he confirmed. Cue insincere muttered two word apology, a refund - followed by a slammed till. The tray that brought cutlery and drinks down was filthy and the broken parasols in the garden are bordering on hazardous. Could be so much better.

Having just visited Newcastle Emlyn for the first time, we thought we would stop at Harrison's for a snack. On entering the staff member advised that there would be no salad on offer with our meal and everything else was available. I placed our order of vegan vegetable curry, tuna melt panini, cheese and onion toastie and chicken bacon club sandwich. I also asked for a tea, iced coffee, appletiser and a coke. This order came to £35.60 and if the items we had ordered had been enjoyable I wouldn't have begrudged a penny. The staff member advised that there would be no lettuce included in the club sandwich and would tomatoes be sufficient to which we agreed. The curry was edible, the tuna panini sloppy, the club sandwich was very dry and the cheese toastie was very thin and consisted of mostly onion. As if this wasn't enough, whilst eating our food two staff members sat down to eat salad which obviously included lettuce! Not one member of staff asked if we enjoyed our meal but the chef came out and asked the staff if they were enjoying theirs!! On departure I pointed this out and due to the staff being dishonest and serving up totally unacceptable dishes at ridiculous prices. I won't be returning.

We were staying with family locally a week or so ago and they took us for a wander around Newcastle Emlyn. We all decided to have breakfast and they gave us a choice of two places where they had eaten before. We chose Harrisons. The choice of breakfasts was good and the all day big one included a tea. However, I wanted coffee, that was extra and my sister-in-law wanted mint tea and that was extra too! This made ordering at the counter awkward. The cooked breakfasts arrived before any drinks had appeared. It seemed that they had been forgotten so we asked after them and got tutted at! We also had to ask for cutlery as it wasn't made clear at the time of ordering that we had to get our own. Again we were tutted at! I have to say the food was very good, not cheap by any means, but we would not return again due to the poor service.

It was the back garden that drew us in, really lovely view over the River you could see the baby lambs with their parents and the resting ducks, very quaint and a gem of a premises, but very expensive like city prices and I come from London. £3.95 for a slice of meringue although it looked nice! Staff were ok, nothing special, not putting them selves out to help or go the extra mile, asked for condiments and told "its over there" expecting me to leave my food to go and get it. Good was spilt as the waitress struggled on the uneven steps and ground. It's not good access but it is pretty. The sleeper steps are broken and you could trip I newly did! But again it's a stunning view, I know this is a mixed review and the food was ok, no issues! But for those prices expected more than a "small" jacket potato had to hunt for the beans! Would I go back ?!? Yes funny enough but to sit out side and enjoy the view not for the food. I'd by the cheapest thing in the menu and sit outside. Just don't think there was any need to be so expensive spent over £30 on a regular lunch! There were local pubs and cafes that had more reasonable prices so still visit the town and maybe have a wander down the side to see the views. My husband has issues with walking and struggled down there saw a lady struggle with her buggy and child! But again stunning see my pictures of the views

Had the pleasure of coming to Harrison's today for lunch. The staff are amazing, fantastic food with a menu for everyone's taste. For coffee lovers, the best coffee in town!! The owner is fantastic for front of house, very gracious when complements are given. If your looking for a welcoming, friendly cafe with superb food and the best coffee don't hesitate to in. Love this place!!

Well. On arrival I was welcomed by a nice dark haired lady and took a seat. Unfortunately after this things went downhill. Imagine my dismay at the large blond lady waitress who twice tried bringing over the wrong food, when I told her that was not what we orderd she sighed and said "well no one else is waiting for food" quite condescending and abrupt. She also barged into the table unawares she had done so spilling our drinks. I tried bringing this to her attention but she wonderd off with no word of an apology. After a short wait I saw this large blond waitress wobble over to my table with my toast. One slice falling to the floor. She came and slapped my lunch infront of me. I tried telling her something had fallen but again she wobbled of disinterested. I then saw her bejd down and pick.up the fallen toast trying to hide it from me, the skill she used to try and cover this up demonstrated this was not her first experience of being an incompetent waitress. She then checked over her shoulder to see if I had seen. Obviously I was glaring at her in shock and dismay of her dishonestly hiding her mistake. She then sarcastically said "alright lovely" grinning to herself and wobbling of without a care, putting my toast in the bin. I was fuming and tried getting her attention. She was to busy being incompetent serving other customers to notice. If she has apologised and offerd more toast thats fair enough as we all make mistakes, but to try and hide it so dishonestly and make no effort to apologise or acknowldge what she had done is another.Never again will I visit when she is employed here and neither will I advise my friends to. Its a shame as the other two ladies were friendly and attentive.

Called in here today for a late lunch. I've been before when I have visited Newcastle Emlyn. It's clean, good food and a friendly welcome. One slight criticism today was that the cawl had not been reheated as much as it should have been. However, it was tasty, the portion was generous and it came with the largest hunk of cheese I have ever had with a dish of cawl. The prices are reasonable, the loo is clean, the service is fast, basically everything you need for lunch out.

We called in on a Saturday lunchtime for a quick cuppa before a walk. The menu was lovely and in a busy restaurant, all the food that came past looked fantastic. Had apple pie/crumble warm with cream, tea and brownie for our daughter. Fabulous. I could have eaten the whole pie. Lovely friendly staff. Xxx

A nice little café/bistro. Seating for about 30 which means it's very crowded when full as tables are close together. A good touch is that tables for four are reserved for parties of three or four customers which prevents pairs using them. Tables are marble like which makes them very cold, especially in November. It has a drinks licence and a surprisingly wide and varied menu. The club sandwich was good and full, the fishcake a little overcooked, but the fries were lukewarm. Staff were good and the place was busy; and that for Newcastle Emlyn in November must be a good sign. Try and not sit close to the serving area as the coffee machine is a bit noisy...

Nice quality food but some of it is overpriced. Friendly staff. Good pit stop but not as special as some of the reviews make out.

We were staying in the area and popped in for lunch. I had fishcakes. They were devoid of any discernible herbs or spices; dried or fresh. I haven't had fishcakes like that for ages. Yes they clearly had fish and potato in them - so they did what they said on the tin - but that was it. My husband found his main course the same; plain. Judging by the number of positive reviews for their Sunday lunch I think maybe they are aiming for the 'traditional food' market. Certainly my dad would've loved it. 'Horses for courses', as he might have said.

Whenever we visit Newcastle Emlyn to see family we always make sure we have time for at least one visit to Harrisons. You are guaranteed a warm welcome from Hazel, the food is always well made and presented, the cakes delicious, and they make the best cup of tea in Carmarthenshire! A typical visit this week - hot chocolates for my wife and son, and a lovely pot of Welsh tea for me, some rocky road and millionaire shortbread and you're set up for the day. Well worth a visit anytime you're in this neck of the woods. Very nice on a warm summer day to sit outside on the riverside terrace. Can't wait to get back there again. Diolch yn fawr!

Called in to Harrison's for breakfast with our dog in tow; I had expected to be seated in the garden but was pleasantly surprised to be invited in to use the comfy couch and chairs at the front of the shop. Breakfast was excellent, big and hearty and the lady who served us was friendly and helpful. Several locals came in for takeaway coffees or for a sit down breakfast while we were there and all seemed as happy as we were. Recommended.

We have been going to Harrison's on and off ever since it opened. It is very popular which says something about it. It is not that big so tables are quite close together but when the weather is good take advantage of the outside tables which overlook the river - many people do not know about them - and you can eat and watch the wildlife.

I took my sister and niece out to lunch and was hoping to spoil them. The restaurant was nicely laid out and had lovely views over the river. However, my sister chose a meal specifically because it had mashed potato as an accompaniment. When it arrived, the pie crust was pale, insipid and under cooked and there were roast potatoes with the meal rather than mashed potatoes. She was very disappointed and ended up leaving half of her meal. I had already paid up-front when I placed our order (never a good thing) and a sign on the counter said, 'No credit or debit cards, cash only'. The alarm bells should have rung then. When I politely but firmly told a staff member about our disappointing meal, she just said she would tell the chef, then she disappeared for so long, we ended up leaving. I didn't expect a refund, but was rather hoping that we would have been offered complimentary cake and coffee or at least, something. But no, nothing. Needless to say, none of us will be going back to Harrisons and we will tell all of our friends and family not to bother either. Having paid £22 for 3 meals (no drinks) I was very disappointed.

Me and my husband were staying nearby and popped in to treat ourselves to lunch. We both ordered the Lamb. The young lady who served us was very pleasant and helpful. When our lunch arrived we were amazed at the variety of sides presented. The lamb came with a roasted potato, parsnips and a Yorkshire pudding. The waitress then presented dishes with mashed potato, swede, cauliflower and broccoli cheese, carrots and cabbage, plus a pot of mint sauce and a gravy boat. To say we were stuffed to the brim is an understatement! More gravy would have been better as the gravy boat was small. Another customer had one to herself, we could have done with one each. But that is the only gripe. My husband then managed to fit in a sweet of blackberry mousse. I could not manage another bite! He also had a coffee! There were quite a few people in the restaurant and the service was pretty swift. I agree with another reviewer regarding the man behind the counter, he did seem to be a bit gruff, which could be off-putting to some, he just needs to lighten up! Will visit again when in the area.

Visited for a late breakfast. The staff were friendly and the cafe was clean. We both had the Olympic breakfast. The bacon and eggs seemed to be good quality, I wasn't too keen on the sausages and the beans weren't quite hot enough. I think that Harrison's could put in a little extra effort to ensure great value for money. For example, the toast that came with breakfast was either toasted from frozen or just very poor quality. Fresh bread for toast would have made the breakfast so much better, and worth the price. I was impressed at the range of Gluten Free options.

Really amazing collection of cakes and savoury choices a big menu. What looks like a small shop has a surprising spacious indoor area and a very pleasant outdoor area with a number of outdoor picnic tables and parasolls. The garden borders the river but is well fenced. The walk down from the pavement to the garden is a little uneven for those unsteady on their pins at the far end. When busy there's a delay for orders but not excessive. Staff are all really helpful and brought our dog a bowl of fresh water and a little bowl of shapes biscuits before we'd even ordered our food. Great value for money. Nice clean toilet in cellar. Thanks very much.

Excellent meal and outstanding value for money.Lady who took my order and served me was great.Having read the past few reviews, can't say anything about the gentleman as only ladies were seen. However must disagree strongly about value. Prices are between £6-£7.50 for a meal (sandwiches and paninis less). i travel alot and prices are much higher in other places, around £8-£10. For the prices Harrisons charge, most restaurants will charge you the same price for a starter!Excellent meal and value with great views!

First appearances great, menu great, then came the service from the gentleman behind the counter. You have to go to the counter to order which is fine, however, the greeting from the man behind the counter is shocking, he's downright miserable and rude. He couldn't raise a smile for either my friend or myself and we're both very smiley people?I found the food to be expensive for what it was. I ordered fish cakes and chips with a side order of parsley sauce, I didn't receive fish cakes but a fish cake, I didn't receive chips instead was given french fries, which I really don't like. The parsley sauce came in a small jug which was £1.95 and fell out onto the plate in one lump instead of being a smooth sauce which you could pour. The fish cake however, was very tasty indeed, I really was disappointed with the food and the attitude of the man taking my money. On the up side, the waitress was a lovely, very happy person.I didn't find this restaurant/coffee shop very good value for money at all, I paid nearly £9 for this meal with a soft drink. With all of the eating places that there are in Newcastle Emlyn, I certainly won't be returning here.

Some of the other reviews are very good so I think we must have visited on a bad day. Certainly, early January and late afternoon doesn't seem to be the best combination for sleepy Welsh towns and villages but we were glad to find Harrison's open and welcoming. The ladies working there were both charming and the cafe itself is nice enough. The problem was with the fact that they seemed to have run out of everything! No hot food, Welsh cakes, bara brith or clotted cream and only two scones left. The tea was excellent so I just had that, popped two doors down the road and bought Welsh cakes for £2/packet which I had later at home. If the cafe owner had done that she could have charged me £4, made a profit and had a happy customer! We probably won't come back here because there are other places to try and our experience wasn't the best. Having said that, I suspect Harrison's might be capable of better things on a good day.
