Unfortunately the the two functions took priority today, as we waited over an hour for basic, mediocre food. Couldn’t cut the roast beef, needed a steak knife! The bill still included service charge! Not good. No warning when we arrived that there was a delay in the kitchen. 3 different excuses given for this. What a shame!

We used to love meeting here for a light lunch. It was varied and well cooked and price was reasonable. The girls serving were very pleasant. Lovely venue over looking the sea. Yes it needs a facelift, too much black and grey and the carpet needs a clean. Now we have been told the kitchen is closed and will not re-open. No idea what is going on; a notice just says "closed until further notice". And it has always been called "The Denton Lounge" for decades. Why change the name? Disappointed.

My sister and I visited here for light brunch, we both chose sandwiches, tuna & salmon, both came with crunchy crisps and side salad, we could've shared one between us! The portions were generous.. yes, there are a lot of the older generation in there, but dont be put off, the food and service is good, I'm sure they are having a re-vamp about now in August, so will look forward to our visit !

We came into the Denton lounge for a drink in the evening and I was appalled to see your frivolous use of plastic. 'Only plastic in the auditorium' was called out prior to attendees entering. The Denton lounge needs to urgently rethink it's sizeable contribution to plastic wastage and convert to glass like most other establishments in Worthing now. I do not need to outline the absolute menace of plastic as we are all well aware, I cannot understand why this establishment has not implemented a no once-use plastic policy. Unacceptable Denton Lounge.

We visited the Pavilion Cafe Bar, by the entrance to Worthing Pier, on New Year's Day, about 2pm. It was crowded, but many left when the pantomime in the adjoining theatre was about to begin. There was enough space to drive the mobility scooter right up to the small table, after moving two of the small chairs aside. There were no paninis left so we chose a BLT sandwich (brown or white bread) with side and smoked salmon salad. The cafe had soon filled up again so there was some wait for the dishes to be prepared and served, but we had a view of the sea and sunshine, and the "snacks" were well worth waiting for. Both filled the plates, with the dish as ordered and a generous mixed salad garnished by a tasty dressing. It took some time to eat it all!

Arrived for an afternoon coffee at 4.25pm on Saturday. A very big middle age man served me, and then told me in a very stern (almost threatening) manner- that the place would be closing in 3 minutes. Being as I am a relaxed, polite 65 year old man, jestingly replied "have I got time to drink it" The guy was not amused. I then sat down -noticing that there were about 20 people still in the place, and after sitting down for about 1 minute the same man came over to me and said "We're closing in 3 minutes" he went to continue but I was startled and said "I know- if you can just give me a chance to drink my coffee I'll be gone" but before I could say anymore (I was going to say "can you give me 5 minutes?") but he rudely / aggressively interrupted me saying "let me finish" (as he was lalmost in my face) then going on to instruct me to leave via the fire exit as soon as I'd finished my coffee. When I asked who the manager was- he said he was the manager. I went in there 2 weeks ago in October with my partner about the same time of day, and the young man who served us then was very polite and the service was good, but I will never go in there again to be insulted like that.

Cafe is situated at the start of the pier and has excellent views of the seashore. The ambiance, which is good is marred by a shabby and dated serving area. The service was very slow. We ordered two tuna mayo sandwiches and it took 30 mins for them to arrive and then only when we asked what had happened to our order. When the order finally arrived we were greeted with "there you are my lovelies". I dont appreciate being patronised. On another occasion we asked if they had any ice cream and the server said yes but it was in the Theatre and there was a rehearsal going on so they could not access it. I think some fresh management could greatly enhance this cafe which has a lot of potential.

We booked a table for Easter Sunday ranch for a group of us. Table service for the group was a bonus. Breakfast menu was good for meat eaters but odd in that it catered for vegans but not vegetarians. Meaning that no eggs or veggie sausages on the vegan breakfast. Sausage and bacon baps the meat eaters had were very good though and it’s always nice to watch the sea and everyone going by there. Our veggie people opted for cheese and red onion paninis which were extremely nice.

Haven’t been here for years but visited today as we were going to see Oliver. We had two small breakfasts and one jacket potato. The breakfasts also come with a tea or coffee! Bargain! So pleased with our choice of venue. The breakfasts came up piping hot. A big plus because for some reason breakfasts in big store cafeterias are often served lukewarm. The sausages and bacon were so tasty and the egg, hash brown and tomato were cooked perfectly. We agreed it was the best breakfast we had eaten for a long time. My friend said the jacket potato was very good too. We were served by a friendly young lady at the counter who took our orders. The show was fantastic and so was this.

This place has a varied menu of mainly stodgey food, similar to pub food. Things like gammon egg and chips, fish and chips, ploughman's lunch, prawn cocktail, puddings. The dining area itself is nice and big, you certainly won't feel cramped. But its not very clean. The other problem with this place is that it's full of grumpy old people, which can be a bit depressing. You'd feel out of place if you're under 50. On the plus side it's a quick, cheap place to eat.

spacious and simple. coffee tea, something stronger, cakes and light meals. sometimes lacking in atmospheren (sometimes people stare when you walk in) but it is comfortable (especially if you can get a sink-in-sofa) and food/drinks are good. You can also get a table outside on the edge of the pier in good weather. A glass of something grape overlooking the sea is very nice. I think they do tea dances and things there too sometimes. Right next door to the theatre so good for pre theatre drinks, when it's probably morel lively. Generally an older demographic in this cafe. I've often been caught out with it's opening hours, and also when it's full to capacity and there's nowhere to sit!

We stopped in here after a walk along the seafront in Feb. It is a general purpose room with a bar along one side, a dance floor and some tables laid out for people to sit at. You can see it would be good for weddings and other occasions. But as a cafe/restaurant any other day it leaves a little to be desired. The selection was quite plain and nothing appeared to be done with great skill. The tables weren't cleaned particularly efficiently and this wasn't exactly a prime time of the day.

I attended the recent dance festival at the Pavilion theatre and wanted something to eat and drink but the tea break in the festival was often after the closing time so the cafe was closed. They really are missing a trick here there are literally hundreds of people who pop in after school or have been at the theatre all day with the only option for a break comes after closing. I think every other festival I have been to (and that is a lot) cater for this hungry crowd. We don't ask for much just a sandwich quickly served and maybe a slice of cake but the service when it is there is dreadfully slow - beautiful food but not worth waiting for. This year they seemed only able to supply chips. We were given a warning not to bring our own food in to eat and to use the facilities in house but there were none. When children are dancing they need to be fed and it is not too much to ask surely for these needs to be met. A lot of profit was lost also Such a shame

My husband and I spent a lovely November afternoon in Worthing and visited The Denton for a bite of lunch. I had the chicken club with bacon and mozzarella which came with a side of gorgeous fresh cooked chips and a little tub of mayo.... fab! Everything was fresh with no horrible fat on the meat and the bun it came in was delicious. And everything was hot, which I find is often not the case even in a restaurant setting. My husband had the fish finger sandwich which he said was equally as lovely. Our cappuccino's were also hot, frothy and delicious. The outside seating area is limited so we were lucky to get a seat right by the pier railing, overlooking the sea on a beautiful November day. The service is a little slow but that really didn't matter as you can watch the world go by and the food was well worth waiting for. The staff are friendly and helpful in every way. We haven't ever sat inside the restaurant so I can't say what that's like as an indoor area, but I'm sure on a cold or wet day, it would be a nice place to eat or just have a coffee and cake! We will certainly visit again next time we go to Worthing. Well done to The Denton!

So after previous visits to the Denton and many plates of fish and chips I was expecting to get the same on this occasion; however I was informed by a young manager on arrival there was a change of menu and that they were running lighter dishes such as panini, jacket potatoes and club sandwiches. Whilst some may have been disappointed by this, me and my partner decided to give it a try and went for two of the chicken club sandwiches with a couple of pints of San Miguel - very glad we stuck around and went with it! The club sandwiches were cooked to perfection - melted mozzarella cheese, with well cooked chicken and bacon served in a sort of ciabatta roll with a hearty serving of chips and some homemade coleslaw. All tasted great and only took about 20 minutes to arrive which on a busy hot day was perfectly acceptable. All the young staff seemed to be enjoying there job and there was a real buzz in the place, tables were being cleared as people were leaving which was very important because they only seemed to have about 20 tables inside (another plus side as there is plenty of room - not like some places where you are crammed in like sardines) but the staff were doing a good job of keeping them clear for the next lot of happy customers!Great value for money - £4 a pint and £8 for the sandwich (inc. chips) which was definitely worth it with the fantastic service and amazing view! Well worth a try!

Swung by for a quick drink, queued for ever, bar staff sulking as feeling over worked, tables (plenty to choose from) littered with empties, manager asked if we needed ours wiping, but nobody attended to it and £5.00 a pint ! Lovely venue but in the wrong hands - Avoid

First visit and will be back when we revisit the area. We enjoyed an afternoon tea between us, ham and tomato sandwich, scone, butter, jam and cream and a large slice of coffee and walnut cake. Very nice and presented on 3 tier plates. Place was busy and some tables needed clearing but staff were busy and got to them when they could.

We were told that hot chocolate and cappachinos were not on sale last Saturday evening when we went to the "Thatl be the day show"....nobody explained why. We ended up with a plastic cup of hot water with a tea bag floating in it, a wet and very weak watery coffee....well i believe that is what is was supposed to be and a beer and G and T. Not impressed at all, then off to the ladies toilets....yuk! this was at the beginning of the evening before the show started, 1 of the 3 toilets were blocked and the other 2 had dirty soaking wet floors and paper all over the floors. The queues were right back to the entrance of the restaurant, this needs seriously looking into, thankfully the downstairs ladies toilets in the theatre were ok but no good if you are disabled and cannot manage all the steps.

We dropped in for some lunch probably on the same day as a reviewer just below and it was busy and they were clearly short of staff. That said, the two guys who were serving were doing a superb job considering what stress they were under as it appeared a lot of customers had come through the doors all at once and they were still catching up.I think at times like this a little leeway should be given to the staff who are going like crazy just to keep up and in this case the guys were doing splendidly. We did eat but must agree with other reviewers that the choice on the menu was very limited and this must be addressed as there is plenty of competition close by.Our food was excellent, well served by the overworked staff, and we will certainly visit again. In the past we have given this place a bad review but we have nothing but praise this time round for the food, prices, ambiance, and above all the staff. A great job under difficult conditions but please, expand your menu ASAP.

Popped in for coffee / light lunch. Most tables had left over lunches on/ dirty plates etc so difficult to find a clean table to sit at. Service was slow and in the end we gave up as many items had been crossed off the menu on the counter. Would not bother again which is a shame given its location

We have reviewed Denton a couple of times before as we have been visiting for a while now and felt they needed to get their act together. Thank goodness they now seem to be going in the right direction at last. We went, four of us, and had breakfast and although the menu was somewhat reduced, everything we were served was spot on. We must mention the staff who were all outstanding, such an important factor when you go out to eat. They were very busy, yet the young man in charge (we heard someone call him Ollie) was leading his team from the front, and his standard of service was first class. Even though they were so busy he still took time to make sure we all had seats, arranged the tables for us, cleaned, tidied, and even served our food to us so we really could not have asked for more. All the team of staff seemed to be in such good spirits and this is so much better than we have experienced during the last year. With this team in place, and the food being of such good quality, the Denton is going to have a very good year no doubt.Thank goodness the bosses have made the changes as they were certainly needed and are most welcome. Its a treat to visit such a quality venue, with quality service, and quality products too. Long may it continue just as it is, apart from a few more choices on the menu please, don't change anything else!

The restaurant is in a great location being at the entrance to Worthing Pier. It has great views of the sea and westerly sea front and benefits from outside seating. The inside is spacious large and airy with the tables being well spaced apart. Food is very well prepared and sensibly priced. Afternoon teas are most enjoyable and typically English.

I booked a surprise retirement tea for a work colleague in the Denton Lounge. From the word go the staff were without exception friendly, welcoming and extremely helpful and on the ball. From the day of booking to the actual afternoon itself, they couldn't have been more accommodating. Even providing a full afternoon tea for the 2 ladies requiring gluten free. .I think it was Courtney? who greeted us and Co ordinated on the day. She was magnificent. A really lovely lady and a credit to the restaurant. Nothing was too much trouble. And if I asked for something she had always thought of it first and sorted it swiftly. We had a selection of fresh sandwich platters on each table and then platefuls of huge scones and delicious cakes. Tea was topped up without being asked for. Staff were consistently present but unobtrusive and managed to keep the other customers served whilst tending to our large party of over 30 people. Our little party over ran and the staff stayed behind without any grumbles and were not pushy in the least about getting us to leave, although everyone had had such a marvellous time, people wanted to linger and chat. I've had afternoon tea here several times before and I think it's amazing value for money and a really delightful olde world charm tearoom. I really cannot praise the Manager and his staff highly enough, and would like to thank them for making jenny's afternoon so special.

This is one of my favourite haunts. I only have tea here so I can't comment on the food. Service can be slow, but the stunning views overlooking the sea more than makes up for it!

A good location on the pier with great sea views. Nice room tastefully decorated and comfortable atmosphere. Service was good and the breakfast selection and quality were very good. The only let down was the coffee which was very poor, weak and tasteless.

The musical entertainment was very good and started exactly on time. Something for everyone. The staff were very good, in spite of the crowded restaurant. Excellent atmosphere and very good wines on offer. Only one criticism, the salmon could have been hotter. Will definitely book for next time.

Singer and musicians very good, but venue very crowded. Organisation of evening somewhat chaotic! Not enough staff for amount of tables. Food quite mediocre, at best warm, at worst just cold, returned the mussels served some more, they were warm this time.Staff were doing well, though considering lack of!The toilets in the Denton, are a disgrace!!! All in all the venue needs updating and thoroughly cleaning, it just looks rab and dreary!!Such a pity as we had been looking forward to the evening!

We came here last July and had hot drinks and cakes in mid afternoon.Had been here many times before when living closer to Worthing and often attending events at the Pavilion Theatre, to which this restaurant at the landward end of Worthing Pier is attached. It's very spacious and old-fashioned and may appeal more to older visitors as there is a quiet, genteel atmosphere.Although you have to order at a counter you do have everything delivered to your table and we found the service friendly and acceptable.A nice place to take rest and refreshment after walking around this pleasant town and strolling on the pier.

I was attending the Dance festival in the adjoining theatre and ordered an Egg sandwich for lunch It was top notch delicious although bit slow service. I had been sharing a table but the others left before me and somebody came along and cleared their plates while I was eating -No problem with that. But shortly after a youngish lad without asking sprayed cleaner on the table while my part eaten sandwich was on the table and wiped a small section of the table. I had to hurriedly move my lunch out of the way to avoid the spray. My table wasn't mucky and the table next to mine was overloaded with crockery he should have cleared that instead, It is in a beautiful setting but seems to run completely separately from the theatre. Although families are attending the festival until 9 ish in the evening the food shuts at 4pm. Seems like they are missing a trick.

Visited the Denton Lounge for morning coffee as the weather was too bad to get to the Southern Pavilion Cafe . Found a poor selection of cakes; service was VERY slow; cappuccino was quite strong whilst the latte was quite weak – wish we had braved the weather and paid the higher prices at the Southern Pavilion Café where we had a very good and enjoyable morning coffee earlier in the year.

Popped in to The Denton this afternoon and were very disappointed with our food. We ordered the Beef and Root Vegetable Stew and were given a spoon by the counter staff. So we thought it would be more like a chunky soup. But no, it was a chunky stew. Then the trouble began! Couldn't break into the dumpling and one ended up flying to the floor. So I went and got a knife and fork, but still couldn't make a dent in the dumpling, the fork didn't make a mark. Be sure to take a pick axe or pneumatic drill if you fancy the stew!

This venue is superb - the caterers are fantastic, the gardens lovely and public transport links excellent. Everything is there for a wonderful event. It definitely rates 5 star. However, I do agree with other reviews. There does need to be better signage when you arrive and even finding Reception is a task… even more so, if no one is there……..
