The Thomas A Becket in Worthing

We were a group of around 14 on 16th October for a work lunch. We had pre ordered our food. Service was quick and friendly the food was really nice - maybe a few more chips could be served with the sandwiches didn’t really feel like there were enough. Big restaurant and a pub with a really British pub feel. Will go back

We were invited to a Golden Wedding anniversary of a close neighbour, very nicely laid out and welcoming for all the guests. Plenty of chat and time to make more friends. The staff were all very helpful kind and caring. The evening refreshments were very well laid out and good variety. All in all a very pleasant evening.

Quite cosy for coffee, although I find the coffee too strong! Food and service is good too. They have a space for private functions.

A lovely pub in an easily accessible location with a large car park. Staff were courteous and friendly. Quiet beer garden, with large covered areas which also have outdoor heating if a bit chilly. I didn't rate the food as we didn't eat, but the restaurant area looked clean and comfortable and id have no hesitation in returning here when in the area.

A group of 18 of us came to the pub for a Birthday celebration on Friday evening. We were so impressed with both the food and the service. All our meals came out together ( a big task for 18) the food was absolutely delicious - good quality and piping hot. We had a variety of different main dishes - but everyone’s were well presented and delicious. The same with our desserts - all arrived together and were lovely. I didn’t get the waiters name - but the guy that served us was a credit to the pub , friendly and welcoming and extremely patient in making sure everyone had the right meals etc. He even was able to give us all individual bills at the end. Nothing was too much trouble. We all had a fabulous evening. Did not feel rushed at all. Thank you to the pub staff ! I will definitely recommended to others and hope to be back again soon.

It's changed alot since I last visited this pub

I was here for a wake. The service was great, the food superb, and the beers well kept.

Been going past this pun since I was a kid, finally decided to go in there very nice and spacious with a decent pint

Once again a fine lunch was to be had at The Becket. As a table of eight we preordered our mains to ensure we wouldn't be disappointed as the pub can get very busy, especially on a sunny lunchtime on Sunday. Food was great as was the service considering the outside dining areas were full up as well. The staff were very quick to take our orders and we only had a short wait. We were in at 1.30 and left just after 4.00pm there were no hints to move on so we were all able to enjoy our meal and a good old catch up. The background music was perhaps a bit loud making it difficult to hear conversations but overall we all enjoyed our lunch. The staff earnt their tip that's for sure. Thank you for yet another positive experience, never had a bad meal here.

Good pub just a little on the pricey side

Had my birthday here. The price was reasonable and the staff were attentive and helpful. It's also just generally a good pub with good beer, good food and a decent atmosphere. Now to get them to drop the pointless 'A' along with the rest of the area (and the school)...

This was seriously the nastiest meal I've had for a long time, a curry simply saturated in burning hot chilli sauce. OMG you can't eat that after a taste, my partner exclaimed! Sadly I ate a third of it with the help of a small bowl of yoghurt the waitress brought over after I complained. I'm used to spicy/hot dishes but this was ridiculous! I'm still suffering 24hours on. My partners Kiev was simply a lump of dry chicken with the tiniest filling of Garlic butter. An awful experience!

The Food was lovely and delicious but the service was a bit slow, hopefully they can speed up the service in the future as it’s a nice pub.

Our last experience wasn't so good but we decided to come back for another try. Im so glad we did as the food was amazing. Absolutely delicious. Service was great too. Will definitely be going back

I went in there for a drink and some chips, the chips were delicious, the service from the barman however was somewhat hostile and rude. My mother asked for a glass of Shiraz and he poured the end of a bottle that had clearly been open for a while. She asked if she could have a fresh glass of some unopened wine and he said that under no circumstances was he able to have two bottles open at the same, so she had a lime n soda instead. She has never experienced this before and it has put me off going, especially as the whole order was less than cheap! Disappointed from Worthing

Nice pub with ample parking. Staff are pleasant. We held a function here with a buffet. We wanted to buy more food as it had all gone but were told there wasn't any more food for us to have. The tea and coffee weren't ready for guests on arrival. A little disappointed as a bit embarrassing to have hungry guests!

Lovely pub, good atmosphere, tasty food, friendly staff and good service, dog friendly, very accommodating, took my Xl bully here, provided with fresh water and dog treats. All in all made yo feel very welcome. Would definitely recommend this pub

Hired the bar area for a function. Stacey was very good from booking to the evening. Food we had was lovely, a little pricey and would have been nice to have 1 less sandwich platter and more sausage rolls which were amazing. Thank you

Had family day out in Worthing today. We booked Thomas A Becket for lunch. Roast beef was lovely and good portion sizes even grandkids enjoyed their meals. After we sat in lovely garden where grandkids enjoyed the playground which kept them entertained. Would definitely recommend food was excellent and staff very friendly. Will be back as a family next time we are visiting Worthing.

Popped in for a couple of drinks with some friends. Exemplary service with a smile. The place was clean and the drinks were great.

A rare day off work today I decided to treat myself for dinner. The Thomas A Becket pub is literally 5 minutes from my home, I smell the good food as I get off the bus after work, but I’ve never been inside. First the bar looked nice, friendly staff, and two of my favourite beers on tap - Fosters (my #1 unbeatable favourite from Australia) and Asahi (top top top Japanese beer) The restarant area was nice although it needs better lighting, it was so dark which might be ok in a bar but not for a restaurant - i’d like to see what I’m eating) Luckily I was sat at a window, no light from outside as it was past sunset and getting dark, but there was a lamp on the windowsill I turned to face me. It was very small food menu, I think the only things I would want to have from the list were the fish and chips, burger or sausage and mash. But still three good options. I had the beer battered fish and chips. Well the menu said fish, but I think it was a whale! A huge fish and a good load of chips and peas. So tasty! The batter on the fish was fairly thick, and was nice and crisp all around (I hate thin soggy batter) it was a bit salty so I was glad of the bottle to table water. I did cut some away and just ate the fish within - white and flaky and delicious! I’m not a fan of tartar sauce but gave it a try - it tasted very fresh, still not a fan but it wasn’t bad. I asked for tomato sauce but stull ate some tartar with the fish too. For desert I had to have my all time favourite, sticky toffee pudding. What can I say, it was great. Quite a nice meal and very conveniently near my home, so I did not have far to stagger back 😄 I would probably go back to give the sausages and mash a try, and definitely go for drinks in the future (Fosters AND Asahi! Heaven)

A nice enough pub. I thought the drinks were on the pricy side but then that isn't these days. Didn't order food so couldn't say what that's like. There isn't loads of parking. There is a carpark just over the road but I think you have to pay for it. If you don't mind a short walk there are a few roads around you could park in.

Had a BLT toastie with triple cooked chips, all very tasty and good value for money. Staff all very friendly, nice ambience. Also have a separate restaurant here too.

Just went for drinks and to see a band it was very busy and the drinks are very expensive for an out of town pub but it's got a good atmosphere

Visited on a quiet Monday evening, great choice of beers but food menu rather limited, especially for vegetarians. Food was pricey and small portions. Fish pie seemd rather small. Bar snacks were tasty though. Nice clean pub though with ample seating and no musac, giving a pleasant atmosphere. Nice gardens for outdoor seating. Good condition of pub interior.

Rating stays the same as last year - it is an excellent venue and the staff are very attentive. BUT we did all have niggles this year whereas it was impeccable last couple of years.

A lovely looking pub inside and out, especially at Christmas time. They had a disappointing range of food choices, with high prices that didn't reflect the same quality. We ordered a trout dish, which we were sure was salmon instead. The steak sauce was so peppery, with whole pepper balls in it. We hardly finished anything that we ordered. Even the pudding, an apple crumble was like mush in a bowl. The drink choices were great, expensive but that's normal these days.

My dad and I had a delicious meal yesterday. My dad had sausages and mash and I had trout with caper butter and new potatoes. Both dishes were excellent and just the right amount. The service was welcoming and friendly to us and also our large German Shepherd. Highly recommend The Becket for a lovely meal and comfortable, cosy surroundings.

I went to Thomas A Beckett for the Wake of my Uncle. The Staff were polite and Helpful. Good facilities. Plenty of parking available. Outside at the back is a children's play area (parent supervision required). Food was excellent, and organised by the Family. Had no cash but was able to buy a drink on card. But would have loved to have seen a cash point machine inside. I have only rated 3stars for atmosphere purely for the reason I was at the Pub. It's not near to me so not likely to visit again soon.

I’ve been here many times. The staff are great and the beers are good. Today however the Truffle Mac and cheese dish was appalling. There was virtually no cheese sauce, the macaroni was hard and tasteless, the topping was as if it had been scraped out of a dustpan and it was sooo salty I couldn’t finish it. Last time it was excellent. Please sort out your kitchen. Very disappointing. I wish I had returned the dish and chosen something else.

I have been to this pub a number of times and have never had any issues. Drinks are good, especially the raspberry mojito I’ve had before. Wanted to do this review however today because I ordered a glass of white wine, which I asked for ice in. The young gentleman behind the bar first added ice to the glass for a short while to make this cold before then getting rid of this and adding further ice to make the wine nice and cold. A little detail that was really appreciated and makes me want to come back again

We went to the Thomas Becket for a family roast today and it was excellent! Staff were brilliant, food was amazing! 2 of us are vegetarian and the nut roast was by far one of the best we've had. Lots of choices for everyone and highly recommend it.

I was celebrant at a (non-legal) wedding ceremony here in mid September and was very impressed with both the facilities and the staff at the pub. They have a perfect area for small private functions like this, which can be curtained off from the rest of the bar area; the staff couldn't have done more to accommodate the couple, who were able to provide and set up their own decorations for the event and the buffet food was absolutely superb (best sausage rolls ever!). Would highly recommend to others planning a small event in the area.

I visited with my family for Sunday lunch and we were all very impressed with the standard of food, which was absolutely delicious. I had the chicken, which was cooked to perfection. We also had the nut roast which was very tasty. In fact I was told the best ever by father in law! Everyone chose different meats and the feedback was very positive all round. The roast potatoes were super crisp whilst the Yorkshire pudding was big, light and fluffy. The cauliflower cheese was the best I’ve ever tasted. All in all we couldn’t fault the meal and can’t recommended this restaurant enough for a delicious Sunday roast.

Four of us had lunch there last Monday. It was fairly quiet but still retained a good atmosphere. The service was excellent and the food was good and reasonably priced. Definitely a good place for lunch.

Had lunch with my dad here today, food was absolutely incredible, service was amazing! Really great pub! Best chips I have ever had, and I eat a lot of chips!

A lovely pub with well-planned spaces. More than ample seating whether you are a large group, a family or a couple. Children are certainly welcome here, but the outside playground keeps children happily occupied and adults who prefer to be undisturbed by children at play, will be content. As a couple, we pop in weekly, although we have not had a meal at The Thomas A. Beckett. The chips are really good though, chunky and cooked just right. The meal portions are ample and well-presented and certainly look tasty.

I've been to the Thomas Becket twice this week for food and drinks, I'm so impressed with your staff, both occasions it was really busy, I could see how hard the staff worked to keep up with serving everyone while staying polite and friendly, very professional. Lovely atmosphere, would definitely recommend giving the Thomas Becket a visit. Please give your staff a big thank you for working so hard to make sure everyone had a lovely meal and evening. 5 stars from me!!

Great roast well cooked and presented.

Great pub with handy play park for the grandkids. Fuller's beers also are a main attraction, and also you can get possibly the best fish and chips meal for many miles around here.

Anyone who may have read my previous posts will know that as a vegetarian my dining out experiences are usually pretty naff, yet when I find somewhere that feeds me well I will always write in praise. At this pub I had two veggie options and chose the linguine. It was superb. I could have eaten it twice!

Staff were very good but, portions were so small for the price. £17.95 for a main course beef Sunday roast is okay if there is enough on the plate. The quality was very good and all six of us left clean plates, which didn’t,take long due to the meagre portions.

Ok. It’s Xmas week and you are out on Friday night for a drink and there are no spaces at the pub. Do you gamble with a table? Here you can be a shred of a good meal. Sit back and enjoy but make sure you tip! Great food and great down to earth service. If they get something wrong the sort it there and then! A beautiful honest pub!

Thought we'd have Friday lunch spontaneous decision on the way past. The pub was freezing (one log on the fire) everyone sitting in their coats. No music playing. The coffee was cold, the granary sandwiches were dry. The service slow. It was dismal. One guy on his own in a wheelchair with his hat and coat on, looking lonely and another guy who stunk of piss nursing his pint in the corner. It was void of Christmas cheer. Not going back there in a hurry. Wish we had gone somewhere nicer.

Four of us went to do the pub quiz. Room was badly lit and we were almost in the dark. Question master unable to read long words. Spent most of his time messing about with his little friends instead of getting on with it. Giving the answers took almost as long as the quiz itself as he was still messing about. We came third and the prize should have been some chocolates. They didn't have any chocolates. We will not be back.

Sunday lunch was good however I could not belive how small the serving of apple sauce was to go with my pork..!!!! AND the £8 cheese board was Definitely not worth the money....too small even for a mouse!

Fabulous family Sunday lunch enjoyed by three generations today. Fast efficient service, friendly staff & superb food & drinks, the clever table magician made a lovely occasion even more special. All nine of us had a brilliant time! !

It was very cold in the room, the food was sub standard - for example the gnocchi didn’t actually have a sauce - the only meal that tasted good was my son’s burger. It wasn’t busy at all when we were there and yet still the food didn’t all come at the same time. The service was lacking and we felt that the staff really could not have cared less about us. We had been before pre-pandemic and it used to be really nice but they’ve changed their menu for the worse and the service too isn’t as good. Won’t be going again.

We had the most amazing day at Thomas a Beckett pub and restaurant in Worthing, food was excellent, staff and atmosphere was fabulous would recommend it to anyone thank you for a lovely day to all the staff and especially the chef will definitely be returning ♥️

Big pub with a restaurant section. We are in the restaurant. Service was good. A basic pub menu with some chef specials. Fish Stew was off this menu!! Pity as we were looking forward to it!! Anyway Haddock and Chips and the Chicken we ordered were fine and just about the right portion size. Puddings were good; we really liked the brownie. Good selection of beer, however, beware some of the more exotic brands are expensive!! Anyway we enjoyed ourselves and will come back to sample the outside area which looks in.

I am not sure if the pub was understaffed but it took an inordinately long time to place our orders and for the food to arrive. Once it had arrived, the people having the roasts had almost finished before the veg that came with it...

A disappointing experience unfortunately certain members of staff are not up to being promoted to young & inexperienced . Unfortunately I will not be visiting this public house again.

Also not allowed at the bar despite no bar list. They proudly annouced they had 33 different spirits; I was tempted to ask them to list the lot but we would have been there all night. Very confusing one way system which meant going outside for the loo! I have been in much better managed pubs since corona. This just made me uncomfortable and angry

I don't normally leave reviews, but I've just had a fantastic, faultless, family lunch at Thomas a Becket, Worthing. ALL of the staff were extremely welcoming, friendly, and attentive. I'd also like to thank the chefs who cooked up some lovely food including a perfectly cooked battered fish-yummy! :) There's also a lovely garden and kids play area too, so perfect for those with kids!

I called on the off chance we could get a table, it was Sunday and around 1.30 already. I spoke to a really friendly lady who said yes, they could find a table for us no problem. The pub & restaurant are super organised for keeping us safe, a really clear one way system and good spaces between tables. Everyone who served us were super friendly and the food was delicious. We all chose the roast dinner, good sized portions and lovely fresh veg with crunch, perfect. We will be back.
