George & Dragon in Worthing

Visited this well established village public house this Wednesday 13 March 2024 lunchtime but it was not as good as in the past. The cost of a pint of Harvey's bitter beer was an outrageous £5.20, at least 50p more than contemporaries. The pub was cold and we kept our jackets on throughout our stay. There is no food available on two days per week and served on only one evening per week. The beer was in good condition, as it should be and despite a modest 'footfall' the ambiance was pleasant. Overall a somewhat disappointing visit with a slightly generous 3 stars awarded.

We noticed this pub when visiting a restaurant nearby and thought it looked promising so later booked a Sunday lunch there. As soon as we walked in we could tell that it was a popular 'local' as it was very busy even though we had found room to park in the car park. We all had the roast beef and we very happy with our choice. In particular the roast potatoes were the best I've had out for a very long time. The pub has a good range of beers including Harvey's Sussex Bitter and, on this visit, another of my favourites, Timothy Taylor Landlord Bitter. The staff were friendly and very efficient and we had a thoroughly enjoyable visit. We even won some steaks in the meat raffle!

What a lovely pub. How I wish I lived closer, but worth the train from Hove! A really good Sunday lunch and a meat raffle too. Friendly staff and regulars, we loved the dogs.

Popped in for a quick pint. A very pleasant welcome in the pub and a decent range on tap. A proper old school pub.

Popped in for a pre Christmas drink, great atmosphere and the fairy lights looked great, have seen a couple of bands here and been nice but awkward layout for live music as it can only be seen from a small area.

Made most welcome & accommodated 3 of us with reduced mobility. Lovely steak & ale pie with vegetables & scampi & chips looked crispy. Both lovely & hot. All staff attentive but a no time felt time pressure. Did book table & the time was advised best time due to larger group coming too. Will definitely be back to George & Dragon & spend time going around Tarring that is full of history. Thank you & Happy Christmas

We booked the G&D for a 40th birthday and it was fantastic. We were a large group of 12 but everything went smoothly. The meals were all great and freshly prepared. Loved all the Xmas lights they had up too. Lyn the owner and Richard the kitchen manager were both lovely and checked in with us regularly, which I really appreciated. Huge thank you to them both and all the other staff!

Just had a great lunch at the George with loads of beautiful tasty roast beef dinner with home made Yorkshire's and vegetables , the roast potatoes were actually the best I’ve eaten in a restaurant , The staff are always lovely and friendly to all , a really happy atmosphere x a bonus , such a good price ,

This is a great friendly local pub Tarring is a weird place in a nice way step into the high street and you could be in a small village somewhere and this is just where this pub scores as a local pub with a village feel to it . Also dog friendly which is a must for my wife and I

Came here with a group of people on a walking tour of Tarring which is a fabulous village of Worthing. Cream tea was provided in this lovely pub. I understand it’s not something they usually do and it was fantastic. If this was anything to go by then I expect their food is very good. I will go for a Sunday roast next time!

I love it! Loads of character! Huge atmosphere and very busy. They have WiFi which is huge after sitting in The Vine with nothing. Lovely garden area with different seating area’s and a pond with waterfall. Looks great, feels great! There is just one major problem. No music on a Friday evening. If it had music it would be top of the range pub!

Proper pub not many left. Food and beer great. Staff well had not been there in 4 years. Fist time orederd beer. Next day did not to ask pint was put in front of me. What service. Staff great friendly welcoming so are the regulars. Food very good and if you have dietary requirements they can cater just tell them. Thank you Lyn and the team for the past 12 years.

Never been here before..friendly staff and lovely pub grub..the burger looked amazing..homemade. definitely come back and recommend .

I love going here with my son. Clean & safe garden that is child friendly & the regulars don't seem to think they're intruding & shouldn't be there. Staff are always good & talk to my son like an actual person & don't ignore him. He can choose his drink & it's nice they actually have a conversation with him.

Great local pub, good variety of beers on offer, regular bands and local drinkers are welcoming. A really nice well kept beer garden with lots of seating.

Bit of an odd one, this. I've been using the G and D for many years, but last night just wasn't the same as usual. It was about 9/9.15 on a Friday evening and the pub was almost empty (I didn't check the garden out). Half of the pub was in darkness and instead of background music playing, they had the radio on (always odd for a pub in my mind). It was just ok.

Haven't been to the George and dragon for years, only popped in for a quick pint, lovely atmosphere big garden, like coming home.

Our first visit to this pub and we were very impressed. Extremely warm welcome o arrival. Good menu choice. I had the ploughman's lunch which was delicious. We sat in the sunny garden. Good wine and will deffo visit again.

Lovely little pub. Classic pub decor feel to it and nice sunny beer garden. Had some chips were amazing. Was only there for a while and didn't get to try the menu and will be going back sometime soon

Nice pub in Tarring, good food & selection of drinks. Pond is well looked after which reflects on how the whole pub is looked after. I'll be back. :-)

Our favourite local. Landlady and staff are all wonderful and the Sunday meat raffle is brilliant. A proper traditional boozer!

Turned up midweek with a friend to talk work/life....7 to 10pm ish. No big screen tv's showing sports etc. No loud music, the only loud thing were some younger guys at the dartboard, no big deal, they were having a good time minding their own business,...remember some noise can make your conversation more private! A good mix of age ranges, most people probably locals in pairs. All were friendly. Staff, young lady behind counter, virtually no wait time for drinks. 20 to 30 people in of an evening. Small garden smoking area. Nice place to meet with someone you know!

Nice pub, nice staff, nice food

We mostly come here for the quiz on the occasional Wednesday. Dave the quizmaster is brilliant and always lots of fun. Bar staff are super friendly and is really well run. Just a really proper pub.

It was ok so small inside roast was ok not worth money they charge for it !! Especially chicken roast dinner mini chicken piece 3 roast potatoes small amount of veg better off going Iceland get one of there frozen ready meals plus pub was packed so we sat on small table surrounded by drinkers and shouting ! If u want nice roast go somewhere else

We had my Grandads wake here . Was so lovely. Beautiful little old pub with some wonderful memories. The food they put on for us was beautiful. Lots of sandwiches ect very generous. And the cakes were fabulous. Thank you so much to all the staff at the George and Dragon. They went above and beyond to make sure everything was perfect 🥰 .

Visited George and Dragon last week with family and baby at lunch time. We were helped around the back with pram to the garden. Baby loved artificial grass to crawl over. Food was excellent and reasonably priced. The staff were more than friendly and helpful. Well worth a visit.

The management of this 15th Century village pub have used the pandemic to turn this dated local pub into a 21st century quality venue. The staff are extremely friendly and treat even new customers as part of the pub ‘family’. Outstanding food. Great garden with good exposure to sunshine as long as it’s there in the evening. Prices are still reasonable. Totally children and dog friendly.

It was lunchtime..and quiet..lovely friendly people and an easy menu. Food was awesome. Lots of activities advertised and it was good to be back 🏡 before Covid.

Really want to say a huge thanks to the lovely lady who made it possible for my hubby to get through to the garden in his wheelchair. He rarely comes out due to his condition but today he was able to enjoy a lovely meal in the sun. Thank you so much for your kindness

My local pub, a few minutes walk away.

I ordered the Classic burger but with no salad. But the chef served up salad anyway because he thought the plate looked too plain without it. What a terrible waste of food that I didn't want! So the paying customer doesn't get a say in what they ordered ... The burger was highly spiced and gave me indigestion and phoned the pub to find out what was in it - Cajon flavouring that was not mentioned on the menu. if you're going to mess with a 'classic' burger, please tell people what they are paying £12 for

Long wait, but we were told as soon as we sat down. The food was worth the wait.

Ate today at the G & D ,and tried out the new menu ,great ham chips and salad served with fried eggs or pineapple, or one of each ! Yum and for me the minty lamb and Rosemary pie and veg , great dish , and lovely relaxed atmosphere x

Had an excellent roast lunch. Beautifully presented the vegetables brought in separate dishes to help ourselves. Will definately go there for another Sunday lunch

Family friendly pub which is always worth a visit when in Tarring. Spacious garden with a wide variety of drinks to choose from. Most recent dining layout is also a nice addition.

Gave food at the George & Dragon last night a go since its restaurant was taken over by "Dine". Great friendly service, food was certainly way above average for pub food. This cheeky burger was nicely done, even my mates Thai curry you could tell was cooked from scratch. Will certainly take more mates down there and wife and kids too will also be on the cards.

Decided to eat here last night not knowing the restaurant was under new management, have to say I was pleasantly surprised. Food was impeccable and up to a very high standard as far as pub grub goes. And we had a very polite and friendly waitress, will recommend to others and re-visit soon.

I went to Dine for my birthday, the food was lovely, generous portions sizes and they have options for vegetarians and vegans. The staff were excellent and friendly. As it was my birthday the staff had organised a muffin with a candle and sang happy birthday. It was unexpected to our party and a very thoughtful and kind touch. A lovely atmosphere; I'd definitely visit again.

Traditional pub with a wonderful atmosphere, excellent starters and knowledgeable staff, everything from full meals to sandwiches and nibbles. I can't wait to work my way through the menu. They are planning to hold wedding receptions and family parties in the marquee in the gardens (significant birthday coming) and we wish Gina and the team all success in the future.

Booked table 3 weeks ago for Sunday lunch . Turned up with friends . Options only Sunday roast but no chicken left ! Orders 2 beef 1 gammon and one just veg ☹️ Dinner turned up immediately (microwave)? However both beef dinners cold . Very disappointed ! Won’t go back. Plus got charged the same for just veg meal as roast meat meal ! Literally a plate of veg ?

The George and Dragon is a lovely pub. However I think the food has been out sourced and is now a separate entity. A real shame. Now not so much choice and overpriced which is really sad.

George & Dragon has delightful courtyard garden which is perfect setting for a most enjoyable mid-day snack and cold refreshing drinks. The ambience is excellent and so is the service. We shall definitely visit again.

Popped in for lunch today and the staff could not have been more accommodating. Incredibly friendly, excellent service. The food was great and the desserts were absolutely to die for. Very dog friendly also. Our pup got so many cuddles. Highly recommend.

I went to the George and Dragon today and had a lamb shank roast it was very tasty and the service was amazing. We will definitely be coming back.

Not been here for ages for various reasons due to the way it was being run. However the bullet was bitten and I ventured in. The menu was smaller than what I remember, but this maybe down to the current Covid situation. However in this case less is more. The food we had was tasty and everyone in our party enjoyed what they had. The atmosphere was relaxed and we were not rushed and had a great afternoon. Going back to an earlier comment, the place is still run by the same person/people but they have seemed to have improved on many levels and it was a pleasure going back and it was like meeting an old friend.

Fantastic pub. First time in there, taking advantage of the last day of the eat out savings and was so impressed. Excellent service with attentive staff who catered for everything you need. Food was good quality and ample portions. Will definitely be back!

Great food but missing several things from the festive menu.

Was welcomed with good service, even though we didn’t realise that the kitchen was officially closed, they still came over to me and my partner and asked if we’d still like to order food as they still had all the ovens/fryers on, they didn’t have to ask but it was appreciated.
