I’d just like to touch on the last review, We went to the Continental today and it is now table service, The food was lovely and the produce is of good quality. Although the previous owners will be missed for their years of service down Warwick Street, the food and coffee has been much improved and we will definitely be going back. On offer today was a full menu I believe. Including full English breakfast, a good range of sandwiches and toasties. Tasty burgers and an amazing selection of sweets, cakes and pastries in the cabenit to choose from. Very well done to the new owners and your friendly staff!!

The lovely previous owners have taken a well rewarded retirement. One reason why we loved going to this cafe was the waitress ordering and excellent hosts. Sadly, after visiting today it seems waitress service is no longer and, like a number of other similar establishments, it's counter ordering. However, the order is brought to the table. Very friendly new staff still finding their feet with a reduced menu on offer at the moment, which is understandable. Good luck to the new owners, there's a lot of competition, maybe they will reconsider their decision not to offer waitress ordering.

Lunch was an absolute delight we stopped here because I had a craving for “mac n cheese” and it was on their menu board. My husband decided on a burger, we asked for a jug of water we received a cold bottle and 2 glasses with ice, most welcome as it was a very warm on Tuesday 16th September. We were advised the burger would take a little while, when it arrived it was worth the short wait. It was was beautifully cooked and plated. My Mac n Cheese although not a conventional take on the dish was lovely, it was accompanied by a salad which was delicious, on my husbands plate they put coleslaw, usually I am the happy recipient, for the first time in the 48 years we have been married ate it all, it was that good. The only jiggle was that no contact details were taken, this didn’t occur to us until we were on our way home. Will definitely be returning.

This reminds me of a cafeteria, but the food is so good! It's not fancy, but it's good honest food. I went the The Continental for lunch on a Saturday. I had a grown up fish finger sandwich! This came as requested on granary bread with a generous portion of coleslaw, small salad garnish and a mug of chips. My partner had a Brie and bacon panini with chips and a salad garnish. Both dishes were well prepared and cooked. The fish fingers were very large and juicy and there was butter on the sandwich not margarine. The bacon was lean and well cooked. The service was brilliant. The servers were polite and friendly and the eating area clean and tidy.

I always prefer to support local independent businesses rather than the big chains, so thought I'd give this place a try on a Saturday lunchtime. Oh dear.....had to wait a long, long time for my panini to arrive, and when it did, it was a massive let-down. It cost £5.80 think about it, £5.80......the tuna was scraped so thinly over the bread, it was dry and tasteless. I know all about portion control and profit margins, but this was ridiculous. No excuses for such a poor effort.I also got the impression that the staff didn't really know what they were doing, as noted elsewhere, plenty of tables were left cluttered with dirty cups and plates, while waitresses wandered around, seemingly oblivious.Shame, as I say, I prefer to support independents, but they need to get their act together fast.

We came here as our usual place was closed for the day and so we thought we would try somewhere new. The outcome came into the category of really nice, but we would not come here in place of where we usually go. We each had a baguette and a coffee/hot chocolate. Baguettes were fresh, quite full of fillings and tasty. Drinks were quite good. Service was friendly and polite, and the cafe was very clean. We enjoyed our visit, there just wasn't a wow factor to make us think of returning. Pricing was reasonable and in line with other Worthing cafes.

Far from it. I was totally ignored. A the waitress made her way around the tables filling up said sugar bowls, I sat patiently as eventually she made her way around to my table. Nothing. There are loads of places to eat and drink in Worthing and as we travel to shop in the town on a fairly frequent basis we have tried a good number of them over the years. Many have come and gone but The Continental in our opinion is the original and the best. It’s been there for getting on for 30 years – as long as we have been visiting the town anyway. It's a traditional English café, like they all used to be before impersonal coffee chains took over the high streets.Set on car-free Warwick Street, it’s pleasant to sit outside in the summer but when the weather is not so kind there are two floors to choose from inside. On offer is good value, honest fare from breakfasts, light bites to lunches and afternoon tea. The proprietors Roger and Sue are hands-on; they ensure a friendly and efficient service. Roger makes the best Americano in town and always has Redbush tea available; something which many other cafés fail to offer. Sue produces a variety of lovely homemade hot dishes at lunch time. The salad garnishes are a meal in themselves and always very fresh and appealing. There are not many places you can get a good old fashioned Rum Baba but they are very popular and always sell out very quickly. Our preference:- homemade scones, tuna melt, bacon, cranberry and brie toasty, lasagne, macaroni cheese, omelettes and great meat pies.

We stopped here last week for coffee and cake. Really nice coffee, and tasty cream slice. The rum babas coming out looked good and I'd like to have said we're going to try them next time, but...We won't go there again. Their new closing hours are at 3pm, which is about the time that a tea and cake seem like a welcome break. Luckily we ordered at 2.10 but people who came along at 2.20 were disappointed. They locked the doors at 2.20! We were sitting outside and a number of people tried the door, seeing as the closing time was 3, they thought they could still go in and get something. It took everyone a while to realise they were just being ignored and the door wasn't just jammed. Them I went and knocked on the door as I needed the loo. Even though we were sitting outside in direct view of the counter, I had to explain that I had been eating there before I was allowed in. They clearly don't need or want the custom and it's a bit off having to knock and wait and explain yourself just to nip to the loo. And it was still only 2.30.

Access in is right on the pavement so easy to get into if you have a wheelchair or pushchair. Loos downstairs too. I had a chicken salad which was delicious and my sister an omelette. The paninis came with salad, which consisted of two thin slices of cucumber, one thin slice of tomatoe and some iceburg lettuce which was brown on the edges and chips which were cold and overcooked. My ham and cheese panini just tasted of cheese and my wife's chiken and pesto just tasted of pesto. Both were dry and the contents far from generous. Add to this warm coke and knives and forks that bent as you tried to use them. The final straw was that they closed at about 2.15 (on a bank holiday monday?) leaving all the tables outside full of dirty plates and you can see why we are ashamed that a place such as this is inflicted on our visitors and tourists.

I visit this cafe at least once a week. The staff are always very friendly. The choice of food is huge and they don't mind if you deviate from the set choices on the menu. They will also do half portions of any of the dishes for a child. Their macaroni cheese is the best I have ever tasted. You always get a pot of water with the pot of tea which is great.

A bit like stepping into a time warp and not in a good way. I agree with a previous reviewer that the coffee is poor and comes tepid. Also ordered an apple juice which had already been poured and had dust on the surface! A bit dubious about my son's cod and (soggy) chips. Didn't look like cod....not white enough......pollock I wonder? Toasted egg and bacon sandwich on white not worth eating. Bacon fatty and flabby and toast hard. Tuna sandwiches seemed OK. Wouldn't go back. Can't understand so many good reviews!

a proper, traditional cafe, with hot, home made, traditional food served at lunch. Had the most delicious home made Steak Pie, which was heavenly, loads of big chunks of melt in mouth steak, gorgeous gravy and light crispy pastry. Partner equally impressed with big portion of homemade Macaroni Cheese, with generous cheese. Amazingly good value. Great service and a real homely and friendly feel in the place. Really like it here. It's how good cafes used to be before trendy coffee shops took over.

For several years this has been our favorite lunch place in this town. Their toasted ham and cheese sandwiches are delicous and filling although not part of a slimming diet!Prices has gone up over the last couple of years, but that seems to be general for the area and lunch places as such. The atmosphere is vibrant and in the summer it is excellent to sit out on the street and enjoy looking at the people walking by. They come in all sorts of ages and sizes. They only have bottled beer, but good brands.

My third try for a decent Full English Breakfast in Worthing and this place hit the spot in every way. Large range of breakfast options (and lunches I noticed). Excellent food & very good fresh ground coffee. Nice friendly staff. Great value. Good atmosphere in there too. Couldn't fault anything- Brilliant! I'll be back.

I have used this cafe most Saturays for lunch for about the last year or so. It is without doubt the best Cafe I have been to in Worthing or elsewhere. The owner who serves the drinks is always polite and happy and the food served is delicious, hot, and good value for money. The waiting staff are also polite and helpful. I wouldnt go anywhere else for lunch or breakfast in Worthing.

Thought we'd update with a new review, as this is now our NUMBER ONE Worthing Cafe for Breakfasts... We come here most weeks, and have always met with really genuinely friendly and helpful service (you can tell they care about their customers!) and good quality, tasty, homemade produce. Well spaced seating, , great selection of breakfasts, impressively huge and tasty omelettes, some of the best quality coffee in Sussex, plus great Wholemeal scones... no loud muzak or radio blaring out, an accessible loo ... and all for less £'s than you pay in most other cafes. We love it!

Had the pleasure of choosing this establishment for lunch last Saturday. Although it is a self-service operation the menu is wide, the food is excellent, extremely good value for money, the service prompt and the staff friendly and helpful.Has a very good lunch for two including two large cappuccinos for under £15!

We went there for breakfast, they were willing to do what ever combination we required, as my husband wanted a bacon and cheese omelette with a couple of sausages, and I wanted scrambled egg with smoked salmon, and she gave me the choice of it on top or cooked with the egg. Nothing was too much trouble,

We go here quite regularly for breakfasts, which are reasonably priced, offer good portions, and are of good quality. Service is quick and the staff are really genuinely friendly and helpful, and always smile (a rarity these days!). Plus, they will happily make any small changes you request to the standard offerings. The cafe is clean and spacious, so you can relax without feeling crammed in (like in some places!).They also have a ground floor loo, which is great for the disabled or walking stick users (something many other cafes and restaurants in Worthing really need to improve on - far too many have loos located up or down full flights of stairs!).Our only tiny criticism is they could do with investing in some new, sturdier cutlery.

It's okay, but there is a completely gay employee who unfairly discriminates against some of the children there because he is an Otto. (theres also an older empoyee which is a really howelsome and nice guy)

First time trying this Chinese takeaway, not many chinese offer ho fun on the menu which is one of my favourites and this did not disappoint. Staff were incredibly helpful on the phone and were happy to adapt to dietary requirements. Would definitely order from again. Takeaway delivery was included (cash only) and driver rung when he got lost and takeaway lovely and hot and fresh. 5 stars.
