We stopped in Chippenham on our way south after a day trip and were tempted by the look of this Italian restaurant. We had no booking but were shown to an upper room, which was empty, but soon filled up with other diners. After ten minutes we were able to place our order. Then we waited, and waited some more. Others around us were served, and we still waited, until the waiter came and apologised that our order had been mislaid! We had to place our order again, and now it was 40 minutes since we had arrived. Another 25 minutes we finally got our meals and more apologies from the waiters. The food was average at best and combined with the long wait, we were not entirely happy when we left. They had indicated that we would get a discount, but I only saw that we had not been charged for just one £4.70 side salad. Never mind. We are not often in Cirencester and unlikely to be back.
We called in at The New Inn on the off chance we could have dinner. We were greeted by the manageress and had drinks served at a table. We asked if we needed to book for dinner and were informed they were just about to have a party of 20 in to eat, so to get our order in quick. We did, and the owner/chef, Ronnie advised us on the menu. My wife had Steak and Ale pie and I had Chicken and mushroom pie. They were very nearly the best pies we have ever had. A great portion of fresh veg too. The gravy was a tiny bit too salty for me, but then I don't like salt. Our only complaint was, we didn't have room for dessert. If ever you are in Melksham, eat here. You won't regret it
Folks please be careful and look at their prices first….three tuna sandwiches, two had cucumber…sandwiches were bland and soggy…but that’s fine, what got me was the price…£21 for three awful sandwiches…daylight robbery….never again.
This was the best steak and ale pie we have ever had. Packed with tender beef in a rich gravy. A vibrant atmosphere and staff always so welcoming and friendly.
My son lives in the village and he treated me and hubby to a meal for mother's day. Service and meal were excellent. Good sized portions all round. Lovely cosy family run pub and will definitely visit again

Fish uneadible. Looked to be very thin and maybe over cooked. It was mostly batter. They would not refund without me travelling in which would be 30mins round trip. Food is normally about average hence two stars
Excellent establishment. Local pub feel but really well maintained with excellent beers on tap and bottled. When I came in they had Deya on tap and lots of Belgian beers in the fridge.
Food was disapointing had some side dish with green things and an insipid sauce, my main complaint was several dogs at the bar ajacent to the table we booked barking all the time and the owners did not think to control them or take them outside
Great food chef never disappointed me the larvae always on point, (I personally recommend the calzone) the staff are very welcoming and friendly would recommend it to anyone wanting to take their partner or go out for a meal with family or friends
we arrived for sunday dinner, on a limited menu 3 of the dishes were sold out
which was extremely disappointing, i was looking forward to steak/black pudding or lamb
