Mixed feelings here...... Staff very good, food good but why charge £1.50 for a mediocre yorkshire pudding? It is flour and milk????? Also be aware that the Sunday lunch is £25 for 2 courses not £22 as per their website. If you decide to go around Christmas when they do have a Christmas menu available, you cannot order from the A la Carte menu and the Christmas menu. Apparently this is for the ease of the kitchen and not for the customer. My question is if our 4some had sat at 2 tables of 2, would that have been OK ???

This is the third time that we have met at The Millstream as a family, midway between Surrey and Bristol, and what a pleasure each occasion has been. The pub is a beautiful old English one in the little hamlet of Marsden near Devizes and is everything that you could want. The pub is great, the atmosphere is great and the staff are extremely friendly and accommodating. Everything about the food felt homemade and the cauliflower cheese was the best I have had. The goats cheese starter, was exceptional and most of us had the roasts but one of us had the Chicken leek and ham pie which apparently was superb. Desserts were delicious, large and obviously homemade. The bill, bearing in mind the quality was very fair - we will certainly be returning. 5 Star in every way.

I visited to celebrate my mother’s birthday. She booked the table, first tip to ensure you secure a table and avoid disappointment. The Sunday menu has roasts, beef, pork and chicken available alongside other standard pub favourites. Tip two, the roasts are plentiful, do probably decide if you want s as starter or s pudding, three courses would not be for the faint hearted. To had roast beef and it arrived with all the trimmings, loads of vegetables and all cooked like “your mum used to”. It really was delicious…best I’ve had in years… The desserts were equally delicious and our party had a chocolate brownie, Ginger Posset and a fantastic vanilla cheesecake… The overall bill was very fairly priced, great service and friendly staff. I would definitely recommend and return again.

I went for a birthday celebration dinner at the Millstream with my mother and grandparents at a table booked for 1900hrs in celebration of my grandmother's 77th birthday To begin, the positives: The service staff were absolutely faultless throughout our meal, and huge kudos to them. I personally would rate my meal a 5/5: Starting with the salt & pepper squid, followed by the fillet of brill, and a scoop of raspberry sorbet to finish, all washed down with two nice pints of Wadworth 6X (dangerously drinkable). The food arrived in a timely manner, and the service stuff were highly professional and attentive. However. As we were wrapping up the desert stage of our dinner, a curtain rail dislodged from the wall and fell out with no warning straight to the floor. The rail was considerably heavy, and passed within 0.5 metres of the heads of my mother and elderly grandmother who were sat under it and had both been unable to react to the potential disaster that almost unfolded until they heard it crash on the floor. There is no doubt in my mind that our dinner very nearly ended in potentially traumatic or even fatal injuries and ambulances. But, no harm was done and our waiter/resses came over and were immediately apologetic and were quick to make sure no one was hurt and to clear away the mess. After this shock we were quite keen to vacate quickly, as my grandfathers heart was skyrocketing having just seen his wife and daughter almost injured by the curtain rail and needed to get home to take some heart meds. Then Kate (the owner) came out of the kitchen we assumed to apologise - if that was her intention I can confirm she made a right hash of that. Having read some of the other less than favourable reviews it appears she doesn't deal well with confrontation. Initially, everything seemed semi-normal. She explained that the rail had become loose two weeks prior, and that they had had someone in to repair it - fair enough, that should have been the end of that. However, Kate then informed us that she was aware that the WHOLE WALL was fragile and that the wadding had potentially rotted. If this was the case then there was an abysmal failure of their duty of care to ensure that the wall was structurally sound enough to hold these heavy rails. This sent alarm bells ringing. By this point, we had not actually heard an apology. As the owner of the pub, I would have expected her to be embarrassed and profusely apologetic. Instead, when my grandfather asked for an apology she continued to deflect blame and repeat that "how could she have known it was just going to fall out". Firstly, as aforementioned she was clearly aware of an issue with this wall which was obviously not adequately investigated. Secondly, irrespective of who is truly to blame for the incident, as the owner of the pub she should have accepted some responsibility and at least offer her apologies. To put it simply, Kate "came out fighting" and I found her confrontational attitude to be highly inappropriate, untactful, and entirely undiplomatic. A back-and-forth ensued, and my grandfather's heart which was already racing continued to climb, my mother became increasingly distraught, and my grandmother, who has Alzheimer's, was becoming confused, so we would have liked a swift resolution. This did not happen and Kate continued to be combative to the point I had to stand from my seat and tell her to leave. We swiftly left to apologetic and embarrassed looks from the other service staff who had witnessed Kate's shamble of a apology. That evening proved to be a huge shame. We have enjoyed a number of meals there before, living in the local area ourselves, so much so that the last time my grandparents dined their my grandfather actually offered his compliments to Kate and her team for exemplary service and engaged her in happy conversation. It's such a shame that we now will likely be unable to eat there again for fear of feeling unwelcome and as a matter of principle when the Millstream has such an amazing reputation which we have been supporters of every other time we have dined there. I hope the pub conducts a thorough investigation to prevent such near-misses happening in the future.

The food was excellent, one of our party had a roast one had scampi and two had the quiche which was three cheeses and really tasty. We had to wait a while before we were acknowledged and seated and there was a long gap between starters and mains which meant for the two of us who didn't have starters we had to wait 45 minutes after ordering before we had our food. The staff were friendly and hard working and the restaurant is lovely. The food cannot be faulted, good portions and very tasty.

We stumbled on this pub via the Brown signpost on the way back from Devizes as we were looking for some food in the afternoon and some other pubs were fully booked. This was busy but accommodated us outside with our dog. We had the beef roast and wild boar burger, both were excellent and plenty to eat especially the roast as you can see from the photo. Great food and friendly service, will return if in the area.

All we can say is wow just wow! I am a disabled vegetarian so was just expecting the usual plate of vegetables roast particularly on a Sunday. Its also Fathers Day so expecting them to have run out of alot. We were pleasantly surprised. To start with I was able to get my wheelchair inside and we headed to the loo. A member of staff came and directed us to a disabled toilet. We were then shown to our table. To start we all had breaded camenbert which was beautifully presented and fresh. For my main I had the Mediterranean Tart and salad. This was lush and homemade. My husband and daughter had the roast and normally its not up to scratch but they said it was lovely and we had clean plates. For pudding we chose the lemon and ginger cheesecake and oh my god. My daughter doesn't like cheesecake but tucked into this happily. It was heaven on a plate and we may have taken a slice home!! The staff were lovely, really friendly and nothing was too much trouble. We will definitely be going back! My only negative was the fact we couldn't add a tip to the card machine and we didn't have any cash. A tip was thoroughly deserved! A real gem of a place and worth a visit x

The girls had the Hake and mussels with linguine and us boys had the steak and ale pie. Proper pie as well none of the stew with a flakey pastry lid in this place. Both girls loved their Hake dish.

At very short notice we booked in here for a meal and we were very pleasantly surprised at the the welcome we received and the high quality of the food. We were a party of 4 and all of us were so impressed by the home cooked delicious lunch that we were served. A very enjoyable occasion.

Every time we have been to The Millstream we have felt very welcome. The food is always good, the cheese soufflé is amazing, the quality of the cheese is evident. We asked for rare roast beef and that is exactly what we got. Kate and her staff are efficient, friendly and polite. Nothing is too much trouble. The wine selection is great and always order the Irish coffee! Looking forward to our next visit.

Very good retaurant menu with different choices then a traditional pub sometimes has. Food was presented very nicely & was piping hot. The servers were very polite & friendly. Nice garden area running alongside a small stream.

Years ago this offered great food but closed down and the landlords (Wadworth's) wanted to turn it into a house and sell it on feeling it had no future as a pub. Tried today it because locally people keep on about how busy it gets. Not about how good the food is, I know realise.

A quiet Monday lunch-time, driving across country from Southampton to Swansea and not in too much of a hurry, we saw a sign for the Millstream and decided we would take a short detour to see if we could get a light lunch there. Not many people about on a Monday and plenty of space, pleasant young lady to take our lunch order and a nice garden table to sit at. We had never heard of the place nor, indeed, passed within ten miles of the area previously, but we found the setting very pleasant and relaxing, away from the traffic noise. As we were meeting family for dinner in the evening we had both ordered ciabatta with different fillings, a light lunch we thought. The servings were large with a lovely dressed salad accompaniment, absolutely excellent, as good a pub lunch of the type as could be imagined. When I went to pay the young lady behind the bar asked if our lunch had been OK. I replied that it had been not at all OK, it had been truly excellent. I wish I could visit more frequently to sample the several beautiful dishes we saw being served to others but, sadly, it is not really practical to drive 400 miles each way for lunch. On our next trip to the far south, perhaps.

Came here after a recommendation and certainly weren’t disappointed. Most delicious cheese soufflé starter and my husband loved the pork medallions in a creamy mustard sauce. I had curried smoked haddock fishcakes with salad which I really enjoyed.

Booked to take an old friend to lunch one wednesday lunchtime. Been here once before and this time was even better. The three of us had starters - whitebait, pheasant salad and avocado. mains Bream, Boar burger & rack of lamb and dessert - creme brulee. All cooked to perfection! Service was prompt and friendly. Pub nicely done with tables not on top of each other making the experience very relaxed. Would recommend and will definitely return.

We enjoyed a relaxed if noisy lunch in a bustling pub which is clearly a local favourite as parking was difficult; but service was friendly and prompt despite the numbers there. The menu had something for everyone, well cooked, and a cut above pub grub. The beer was fresh and the wine not too expensive and a good selection. It may be even more popular in the Summer as it appears to have a good garden area, and it is tucked away off busy roads. A good 'find' in the locality between Devises, Upavon and Marlborough

Our family of eleven had lunch at the Millstream today, and we were all thoroughly impressed. We were greeted in the beautiful bar with friendly staff. Our large party had a great space in the restaurant, so we were very relaxed. Two of my family have allergies and we had no problems with the menu, there was a good choice for us all. The food was well presented, hot, tasty and plentiful. Many thanks for making our celebration so enjoyable. We look forward to returning soon!

My sisters and I wanted to take mum out for a very special 80th birthday lunch. The reviews looked promising and we were not disappointed. Clearly everyone else has heard how great the pub lunch is as it got quite busy. We ordered 3 x pie and chips, 1 scampi and chips and 1 x rib eye steak and chips. The food was excellent. Mum commented that her steak was the best she had ever had. Cooked exactly how she wanted it. The portions were generous and there were no complaints. Compliments to the chef were given. Pudding were ordered by 2 of us. One huge portion of cheesecake that tasted as good as it looked and a boozy baileys pudding that I’m told was delicious (I was driving so opted not to try). The staff were great and really couldn’t do too much to help. This included keeping mums flowers in water and hiding and presenting mums birthday cake and singing! The bill was very reasonable and the food well worth it. This was fitting birthday lunch for a special mum. Whole heartedly recommended by all.

We visit a few times a year, usually for dinner and are rarely disappointed. The menu's good and along with the specials board mean there is always quite a choice. Very good fish dishes of course. Along with friendly, attentive staff and a good beer and wine selection plus an excellent setting it is very easy to recommend a visit!

Won’t be back - coffee ok but woeful miserable staff. A smile, a bit of engagement, even eye contact makes a difference - you want to feel welcome rather than an intruder. Surely when money is tight places realise they might have to go that bit extra to encourage people to go back.

Website showed great promise. Kerbside appeal good, car parking good, service very good ( very helpful and friendly). Strange layout inside as its old building, dining room has no bar. Garden not used to its full potential, only very old tired play equipment for children. Food reasonable, 2 out of 3 meals okay. Third meal of chicken disappointing, either poor quality meat or overcooked or possibly both !!!!! Empty on a nice sunny lunchtime !!! Sorry but would not rush back.
