This is fairly local to us and we decided to have an early evening birthday dinner. Even at 6 on a Monday it was pleasantly busy creating a nice atmosphere. Service was prompt and friendly and there was a good range of real ales on offer including 3 kegs of guest beers. Food choice was exceptional to the point of making it hard to decide which of several options to choose. When it arrived the food was extremely good and well presented. All in all a very good experience.

Such a wonderful pub experience. The real standout were the staff. Every staff person we interacted with on multiple visits were so kind and genuine. Thank you so much! The spaniel we were looking after also had a great time with the ample water bowls and laid back atmosphere.

Great country pub. Lovely lively atmosphere and the food was great. A good venue for an impromptu dinner. The wine selection was also more than you would expect in a rural pub. So, been back more than a few times and still a great spot. Burger is spot on and sweet potato fries great. If in the area you should pop in. Still great and looking forward to spending some winter evenings in front of there fire!

Lovely pub, off the beaten track, in a quiet location. Dined here on a Sunday evening limited menu but still plenty to choose from. Had the goats cheese pizza 10 inch with chips. Wife had Scampi basket meal. Cooked fresh and served up hot. Very tasty. Apple crumble with custard for dessert. Delightful. Nice freshing Cornish lager. Certainly would dine here again.

Had a very splendid meal here on Monday evening, expecting it to be quiet but the place was heaving. We stayed overnight in the car park in our motorhome (Britstops) it was very quiet. Certainly a place to travel to for a good meal. If you're going to the Beam engines check there actually open! The windmill up the road is with a look too.

On a very wet evening with a crowded bar, we were welcomed in, found a table (the only one not already reserved) and served absolutely top end pub food. I love a good pie and The Swan's pies are at the very high end of the market. The vegetarian food is also really good, lots of choice, and the beer is well kept. Shout out for the lovely staff who didn't seem to mind our boots and soaking clothes despite all the other customers.

These days you have to be a bit special to survive as a village pub off the beaten track. The Swan fits the bill. Staff went above and beyond to welcome my walkers' group (muddy boots, wet dogs and all). Service is friendly and attentive, and lunchtime food is well above average. The bonus is an interesting selection of real ales. Set in a quiet and levely village, this place is worth a detour - or build it into a Wessex Downs/Kennet and Avon canal walk as we did.

There is an art to getting a pub 'right' and this is one that really does. We go infrequently living some miles away but it is always a joy to go to. It strikes that fine balance of being cosy and not artifically polished like so many pubs feel the need to do. Beer in barrels on the back shelf and an excellent menu. It's a gem with lovely staff.

I've had three meals here in last few weeks. First Excellent, second bad, third - OK but not good enough to bring me back. I think there is a practice of serving precooked food, reheated, as my last two were both overcooked and dry, which would not have been possible in the time we waited. One good thing with the food was the accompanying vegetables, but the liver and bacon were both cooked to a crisp, and one tiny slice of overcooked bacon is not enough. It was a great pity as the staff and ambience there are first class.

Went for a Sunday roast after a long walk and was a very nice meal. However, the service was not good. We had to wait over 15 minutes before asking if we could order our drinks. The waiters and waitresses could clearly see that we were waiting. Once finished I asked the waiter for the bill and this did not come, so after again around 15 minutes I had to go to the bar to pay. They need to improve their table service, which is a shame, as the food was very nice.

Came here for lunch as we were staying a few miles down the road. Last time we stayed nearby back in April we came here for a sun roast and it was spectacular then. Turned up on Tuesday just to see if they had room for us, surprisingly it was busy on a random tues in oct!!! However staff were lovely and managed to get us a seat on a table in the bar area. Both had lasagna which was the nicest lasagna I’ve ever had out in a pub. The selection of beers they had on was really good and I noticed the barrels had aspirators on as well, so not only did they have a great selection of cask beer it was also in top condition. Both experiences here were great. The staff are really attentive and friendly. Basically it’s what every village pub should strive to be like. 11/10.

What a find! The Swan - a pub with oodles of character, amazing food, but best of all, gorgeous staff! Bill and his young and enthusiastic Team made us feel so welcome - when the boss makes time to chat with you each time you visit (every day during our stay!), and when you order a take away and the young chef brings it to your door with a lovely smile, you know you've found somewhere special! The Sunday roast was absolutely out of this world, as was all the food, but when your family rates the roast at the local pub better than the one they get at home (and you know you cook a mean roast yourself!) that's telling! Thank you for making us feel so welcome and for feeding us so well - we will most definitely be back, if only for the best sticky toffee pudding we've ever had! The Crazy Crew from Jersey! x

Stumbled across The Swan by accident when out for a bike ride and had forgotten our drink bottles. Hadn't been planning on eating out but as a Coeliac I'm always looking at menus to see if they have gluten free options. The Swan has a brilliant variety of GF dishes and as soon as I spoke to some staff members it was clear they understood allergies. So we had lunch there. Very reasonable, very tasty and lovely staff. Sunday Lunch After a mix up with our booking where the young lady admitted she had cancelled it accidentally we were finally accommodated. We all had starters, whitebait and two of us had the potato skins which were rather too well done and had a slight bitter taste as a result. More style and price, than substance. Lovely setting, beautiful rambling walled garden with posh servers. But the restaurant food can be really bad! Bean dip (but called something much more lyrical, which I forget) was tasteless/ bland. Even I can just liquidise a tin of beans, and burn a carrot, but I season them properly and do expect much more for the prices. Much is made of local suppliers, and the meat dishes always seem to get better comments from my friends. The veggie food and deserts are expensive and not tasty, original or quality. If you are happy paying highly for meaty food, in a unique setting, then feel free. But I would avoid veggie and vegan (and probably the deserts).

This place probably doesn’t need anymore good reviews but it certainly earned one. Ate here for a long lunch with friends who I hadn’t seen for years so there was a lot of talking and catching up. The place lends itself to that. It is comfortable, friendly, relaxed but the food and the service are absolutely excellent. The owner who was on duty yesterday ( forgive me for not catching your name) couldn’t have been more helpful and accommodating. He paced his service around pauses in our conversation and made us feel very welcome. He also caught on to the fact we were ex military and upon showing proof gave us a generous discount, which was very much appreciated. We stayed through the afternoon chatting away, and he kindly left us in peace . An absolutely lovely place, thanks for looking after us.

We popped down to Quidhampton for the village fireworks hosted by the White Horse. Absolutely AMAZING evening; Fireworks were fabulous (probably 25 minutes of impressive show), DJ Dion kept the kids entertained at a great family friendly disco event in a marquee, there were sparklers for the kids and the bar and grill were a great addition. Queues were significant at times, but not surprising given the popularity of the event. Having been out of the country for a few years, this was our kids' first proper firework night and its going to take some beating. Thank you Quidhampton and the White Horse, we'll be back!
