Firstly can I say the staff were very attentive and friendly. But we were very disappointed in the accommodation. We were in the Flat. This area looked like old staff accommodation, the mattress was small, the shower was in need of a refurbishment. Dirty grouting etc.. The external staircase up to the room was very dirty and look dangerous, part of the hand rail looked like it was rotting. Meal in the evening was good , and as I said staff very nice.

After spending time with my sister in law and my niece and nephew we headed back on the motorway to find a route to our hotel but we saw the pub and drove into it and we were greeted and the staff was friendly and gave me and my parents the WiFi and we jokingly did a dance to celebrate and as I went into the toilet the lights were not on but the kind friendly barman turned them on lovely pub will definitely come here again

Whilst driving past we saw this quaint little village pub. We was welcomed as we entered by the friendly staff. We only stopped for drinks as we had spent the day with our 2 little grandkids so had already eaten, but I saw the lovely food that was being served so we will book for food next time we are down. I fully recommend a visit to this fine pub which is also in the Camra Good Beer Guide 2024

TV didn't work, lock to door was wonky, bathroom fan whining.... Old and tired decor but good value for the room price. Food was adequate, (but overpriced) and chips tasted like they came out of a frozen packet. Grumpy landlord but he was short staffed so that's probably why 😁

Looking at the photographs of T.J.H. Online, I was quite looking forward to staying. But the reality, was quite different. My room/flat was Old, tired and in desperate need of tlc. The very old wooden outside stairs to my room, did not feel safe. Most of the lighting in my room/flat, didn’t work. A new shower is desperately needed, as the shower head was broken and I had to hold it to shower. I had a kitchen area, with a kettle, a plastic box with paper cups and condiments inside. The whole place was very dark and gloomy. On a plus, the bedding was very clean and the staff in the bar/restaurant were very friendly and breakfast was good. The Jolly Huntsman is in a very pretty village, just a shame the inside of the rooms were not the same.

Had a lovely stay here over the weekend. The room was very clean and spacious. Parking on site for guests' location stunning. Full English breakfast was delicious. There was a power cut when we stayed but it didn't detract from the stay and was beyond the owners control. Lovely little pub Friendly and welcoming owners. Would recommend this as a place to stay. Great value for the price. Rooms had kettles and hot drink accessories. Fresh beading and clean towels. WiFi and a TV in rooms. Not having power made the stay a little better because we all got a real good sleep power came on sometime in the night. If I could say that if the power going out is a location thing maybe a small battery operated light for the rooms in case of emergency would be a plus . Or a note to guest upon booking to bring something. But that's only if powercuts are a thing for the area. Thanks so much for the stay and how welcome you made us feel. 😁😁

The room was ok however it was freezing cold even with the heating on, the radiators switched off about 2100 and I had to wear my clothes in bed it was so cold, the evening meal was "a beef curry with basmati rice" which was actually some beef stew with tough as boots gristle and a low grade gravy, breakfast was ok, I like to be fair so heat the room a bit better and teach the cook that a curry is not a grissle beef stew and this will improve the rating, the lady behind the bar was really pleasant and helpful so I do feel bad having to give such a low rating but unfortunately I pride myself in giving fair and honest reviews

Staying in the Chippenham Premier inn we didn’t want to eat in the Brewers Fayre next door. I stay in a lot of Premier Inns on business trips around the country, it’s rare to find one of the attached Brewers Fayre restaurants to be up to much. We found The Jolly Huntsman on Google maps last night before setting off. Glad we did, it’s a great looking old pub and the landlady behind the bar was lovely. My lad has a fair few allergies and she was more than happy to check ingredients with the chef for us. Food was ace, I had the crispy turkey burger, my wife had the lasagne and they made up a kids meal for our son just as he wanted. Several happy regulars, including another young family, were also in, always the sign of a good village pub.

. Servizio molto cordiale e gentile. Stanza semplice con bagno privato e molto pulita. Ottima cucina. Absolutely fantastic experience at this B and B! We contacted them beforehand to ask if they had any vegan options for breakfast and they said that they would get some bits in for us. When we arrived we were greeted with a very warm welcome and we were told the options for breakfast (vegan sausages, bacon, etc) which is amazing! We were then given the keys to our room which was through a gate to the back of the property meaning it was lovely and quiet away from the pub which is great if it is busy on a weekend night. The room itself was cute and country style. We were only provided with one towel but we asked for another and it was immediately brought to the room. The staff were so attentive throughout our whole stay! My only negative comment would be that the room could have done with an extra dust before we got there (e.g on the lampshade) but honestly we didn’t care due to how looked after we felt! The shower was great too with great temperature and water pressure. It would be great if they could add a vegan option or two onto the main menu as a regular option for other guests to choose from such as a sweet potato curry or falafel wrap! We would definitely recommend this B and B to others but definitely ring ahead if you need any special diets catering for! Thank you to the wonderful team for looking after us :)

Nicely situated pub in quiet village, service was good, food was good and room was a good size, only negative was the state of the grouting in the shower which was covered in mould and mildew as was the flexible hose to the shower. We were staying in the nearby Travelodge and asked the lady on reception for recommendations of somewhere for dinner. She suggested The Jolly Huntsman (and from other reviews, I can see this seems to happen a lot). The pub was relatively busy when we arrived so there was a little delay on placing our order at the bar (barman was clearly busy and got to us when he could. A jug of tap water was requested and the barman said he'd bring it when he got a chance, and within about 5 mins, the water arrived (maybe a minor point, but several other places have forgotten the tap water with the "I'll bring it soon") The menu is varied with additional specials so plenty of choice. The scotch egg starter was delicious. Between starter and main, there was a wait, but a member of staff came over and reassured us that the kitchen was busy and it wouldn't be much longer. Again, just a nice touch that communication was provided (we weren't in any hurry but appreciated the update). Main courses were lovely as well - the mushroom risotto was fresh and creamy. I'd opted for the teriyaki hake which was lovely. Quite a different thing to see on a menu. Desserts were what I would call "classic desserts with a twist" - rather than a plain creme brulee, it was blueberry (which was delicious - the shortbread was perfect). There was a gooseberry tart (I think!) which was beautiful - very unusual to have gooseberries. The only downside is the car park is rather small, but I suspect on street parking would be do-able if necessary. Definitely a place to remember as it's close to the M4

On the way back to Devon after visits to York, Lincoln, Norfolk, and Buckinghamshire, we were looking for a suitable B&B close to the M4, and found this pub with accommodation in our search. It's just a few miles off the motorway, in a small village between Chippenham and Malmesbury. We found it easily; the welcome was warm, and we soon were settling into our room, which was accessed around the back of the pub in what appeared to be a converted former ancillary building. The room was on the smallish side - but with perfectly adequate facilities, and we relaxed after our journey, watching "Pointless". After a while, we decided to eat in the pub, rather than driving elsewhere. There was a range of options - in my case accompanied by a local pint - and both meals were satisfying and enjoyable. The evening concluded with a little more TV watching back in the room, before a good night's sleep. The following morning we had an excellent breakfast; after enquiring about the bacon, we were informed that it came from a nearby farm shop and was also stocked by the village shop just a few metres down the street. A pack was bought to take home, as well as some delicious gooseberry jam!

Staying at the motorway services hotel nearby we asked reception if there was a decent real pub nearby. The member of staff gave excellent instructions of how to get from the westbound Chippenham Delaware site to the venue which only took about 3 or 4 minutes drive south down tiny empty roads. The pub turned out to be a hotel too but we only used the restaurant facility. The pub was warm friendly and atmospheric with a log fire burning. The smell of food was delightful my wife and I both ordered pan fried bass. The meal was cooked to perfection. Every mouthful was a delight, the homemade sauce and veg used were amazing. We didn’t talk much for about fifteen minutes. I tasted the two camra style real ales, they were devine. The red wine was approved by my tasting partner. What a gem this place is to be found just tucked away from the from the beaten track that is the M4.

The dish was vegetarian friendly (although I'm not) and I even got my son (not a veggie fan, at all!) to try some and he thought it was gorgeous. Thanks to Greg and Clive for helping to keep us all fed and watered! Lovely atmosphere and very reasonably priced.

Visited this pub with friends on a country walk, lovely village lovely pub. Very traditional inside although as it was sunny and warm we sat outside, unfortunately the outside seating could do with some TLC, but it was pleasant enough. Friends had burgers which were excellent and a cod chips for me, delicious battered cod and good chips but maybe a few more chips needed, quite a sparse portion really. Would like to revisit, maybe on a cooler day to enjoy the indoors and warm ourselves.

So the menu is awesome and has something for everyone. I ordered Pidgeon breast with black pudding, bacon and salad leaves in a black pepper sauce. It was sooooo tasty! This was a starter. For my main I had duck breast cooked pink with veg...

Stopped here for a midweek dinner treat tonight. Service was excellent from the outset, food was beautifully cooked and utterly delicious, huge portions. Best pub grub for a long time in a beautiful location. Highly recommend, we will return 👍👍

Website showed great promise. Kerbside appeal good, car parking good, service very good ( very helpful and friendly). Strange layout inside as its old building, dining room has no bar. Garden not used to its full potential, only very old tired play equipment for children. Food reasonable, 2 out of 3 meals okay. Third meal of chicken disappointing, either poor quality meat or overcooked or possibly both !!!!! Empty on a nice sunny lunchtime !!! Sorry but would not rush back.

Won’t be back - coffee ok but woeful miserable staff. A smile, a bit of engagement, even eye contact makes a difference - you want to feel welcome rather than an intruder. Surely when money is tight places realise they might have to go that bit extra to encourage people to go back.

After a busy morning trawling through Trowbridge, I came upon this little place 🐟quite by accident but I'm glad I did as I was famished. It wasn't hard to decide what to have: plaice and chips, and it was delicious! The staff were all absolutely lovely, so friendly, helpful and polite. My experience with service went swimmingly. I recommend getting a bite here. (All fishing/fish puns in this review were fully intended! 😁)
