What's not to like? Friendly and helpful. Plenty of quality, tasty food. Plenty of parking round the back of the pub. The total cost for 3 adults worked out at a measly £19 each. That's including 7 drinks. We all walked away full up and happy. What a wonderful little pub.

Filthy place. Piles of rubbish in the car park, dirty toilets, cubicles, walls, dreadful dirty smell. I didn’t stay to eat. Three stars only because they offer gluten free food on Wednesdays and because the young woman behind the bar was personable and helpful.

Stopped for lunch here today, ( planned), and what a nice suprise, superb home cooked lunch, i had gammon and all of the trimmings, wife had hunters chicken, and daughter scampi, all superb, served piping hot and brilliantly coooked. had to leave some of the chips as although very tasty just couldn't clear the plate Had hoped to mamage a desert but we were all to fuul to contemplate one Very reasonable mrice £55 and we each had 2 drinks. Will make a point of revisiting when we next pass. Also must compliment the "landlady" wo served us great service without hovering

Popped in and just had a drink. The food looked good (proper pub grub), the barstaff were incredibly friendly and welcoming, drinks were really cheap too, £4.50 for a pint of lager and £1.25 for half a coke, just great! But the staff made this pub, just so lovely, the two female members of bar staff were so genuinely lovely, well done!

Visited twice for dinner as was staying down the road on holiday. First night didn’t book as was a Monday, second we did book as was a Friday night and luckily got a table. Both evenings food was lovely! Food isn’t expensive so wasn’t sure what to expect as although pub is clean and cosy it is a traditional pub with sticky tables. Could not have been more surprised by the clearly home cook food. Really good portions too! Service was really friendly also! Plenty of choice of drinks too. Would return if holidaying here again.

Lovely Dartmoor village pub, serving good food, especially the pizza, sorry forgot to take the picture before I'd eaten it!😋 The landlady is excellent and the staff reflect her standards. Occasional live music nights, monthly quiz raising funds for community groups. Oh yes, there's also a good range of drinks to be had.🍻

A welcome lunchtime stop for a couple of beers & something to eat while on a circular walk. Although the first in the bar on a Monday around 1pm I was amazed to see how quickly the pub filled up with separate groups.......all wanting food so putting a potential strain on service but I didn't witness anything of the sort.......well done! We both enjoyed our lunch and the food & beer/cider was very reasonably priced for the area. The bar lady was friendly & chatty (until it got busy) and the pub itself is a great-looking building with character. Thumbs up!

Very good friendly staff. Limited food options on the night, but the food quality was good. Initially at 1800 hours there was 2 tables in use. As the night progressed the place came alive and was buzzing. A well support pub. Big car park to the buildings rear.

Had a fews days off looking after my wife after surgery, we decided on lunch at the Kings Arms, been many years since I last visited. Popped in Thursday lunchtime and were greeted by a friendly young lady at the bar, I chose the Chili, wife went for the fish, and a bowel of chips, food was great, desserts good too, we we're looked after very well in this lovely old pub, reasonably priced, plenty of choice with drinks as well. Dog friendly (should have brought our terrier)! It was quiet, one other couple came in for food whilst we were there, so go support these kind of places, we'll definitely be back, thanks for a lovely lunch (Background music was great too)!

Stopped for a quick drink whilst on a walk Thursday afternoon and it was practically empty. However, was warmly greeted by the lady at the bar, polite conversation and told us all about the pub. Sadly, the chef was isolating at the time so couldn't sample the food. Perhaps worth a visit when next time around and others can comment on the food/atmosphere when more people are there. Returned back 2 years later, much busier and food on! Had nice Scampi and chips and beef chilli, lovely flavours and pleasant quick service. Tables inside were a little sticky but otherwise staff were very friendly. Popular with locals is always a good sign. Food is great value compared to many places nearby. £32 for two mains a side order of chips and two and a half pints, not bad.

An absolutely wonderful pub, the heart of the South Zeal community. Come here for a friendly smile and chat, good portions and often interesting beers and ciders. Child friendly and a good beer garden. A fab place to host work events: I've brought my team (20ish people) here for Xmas dinner several times - sitting in front of the roaring fire whilst steaming dry after a walk on the moor! The quality of the homemade food is excellent and the choice is very good - personal favourite is the Chicken Katsu with coconut rice which IMO is nicer than Wagamama's. Choice of beer and drinks is also good. That's all 5*. The only negatives are the service which was not great a couple of times (slow, then no menus, then only brought one menu for whole table to share (!), no pizza menu unless you happen to know they do them and ask for one, etc), and the lighting/ambience in the function room is not great... a bit dark and dingy!

Very disappointing. We were staying in South Zeal and wanted to watch the England/Denmark game plus we needed to eat as we had been walking around Dartmoor all day. The Pub was closed on Tuesday evening but they were open on Wednesday. So we called in and asked if they had a table, which they did. But when we asked about food they said they had stopped serving. This was about 7pm. So we had no choice but to find some where else and as this is the only pub in the village choices were a bit thin on the ground. I thought businesses would be keen to encourage guests after the Covid lockdown?

When we go away we like to find the authentic pubs that the locals prefer to use. The Kings Arms is one of those pubs. It not fancy, nor does it have the latest hipster decor and menus, but it has good real ales, (according to my husband!), good home-prepared food that is excellent value for money and a genuinely warm welcome from landlady and landlord, their staff and the locals alike. They are clearly doing their utmost to keep their business going in these Covid-19 crazy times and we felt very safe and well-protected by their safety measures in place. I only knocked a star off because I’m a vodka drinker and their choice of vodkas was a bit limited ! I did see a wide selection of gins available though.

Won’t be back - coffee ok but woeful miserable staff. A smile, a bit of engagement, even eye contact makes a difference - you want to feel welcome rather than an intruder. Surely when money is tight places realise they might have to go that bit extra to encourage people to go back.

Unfortunately unable to review accomodation, food or service as we were double booked. Apparently landlords wife responsible for this so she was summoned. Landlord then completely ignored us and didnt even offer us a seat let alone an apology, this was left to his wife. She didnt seem well and was apparently in hospital at the time of our booking. She went away, 20 mins later produced £140 to cover the cost at premier inn who had ample availability and she had phoned them. Premier Inn denied any phone calls from Helen. They had one room which went whilst we were trying to book it. Plenty of certificates of awards, shame they are so old and tatty like the pub. I hate being lied to but rudeness, lies and facing a night in the car... Dont book here, disgraceful performance. Tired and niaive, should have insisted they booked it in front of us! Took the edge off Bath Christmas market tbh!
