The Green Dragon in Wiltshire

Debbie, very short notice (sorry) but thank for my best takeaway dinner in years. Thankyou so much.

Previously a 5* review but has slipped significantly over the last three years. It is an excellent location but dogged by less than accommodating kitchens. On several occasions over the last year I have gone to the Green Dragon and been disappointed. There have now been too many times that I have tried to buy food whilst the kitchen is open, only to be given excuses by embarrassed bar staff that the kitchen is either too busy, despite only a spattering of tables occupied; or being told that I can only have a light bite or starter if I am willing to buy a whole three course dinner. The staff seem to be fearful of the land lady as they report of being "told off" for allowing a fellow customer to have a selection of starters (bread and olives, whitebait) without ordering full meals. It leaves me feeling that this is driven by greed. Other patrons reported previously being told that "The kitchen has made enough money for today, so we are closing". I live in Wiltshire and can confirm that there are many fantastic village pubs with the warmest of welcomes in neighbouring villages (The Oak in Easterton, the Lamb in Urchfont, the Bell in Cheverell). There is absolutely no need to settle for second best.

Dog tried attacking my little puppy tried to alert owners and they got aggressive would not recommend

Large spacious room, great value breakfast, and lively bar in the evenings. Well-placed for Stonehenge and other attractions.

Neat and spacious rooms. The pub was very welcoming with great options for food and service is outstanding. We ordered pizza, Indian curry and rice for dinner; both were very tasty. The pizza was thin crust, crispy with the right amount of cheese. Overall, highly recommend!

I would like to thank everyone at the Green Dragon 🐉 for a lovely stay at a very hard time. Nothing was to much trouble. Lovely room, lovely atmosphere,amazing food. The whole team at the Green Dragon including Arnie the Great Dane were fantastic.

A roaring log fire and thoroughly decent beers. A bowling alley and function room. On site accommodation to a renewed standard. Quality meals at reasonable prices. Staff that are helpful and cheerful, all led by a landlord who understands how to run a properly decent village pub.

Delicious food. Food was very good. Very friendly staff. The dog was allowed inside.

We’ve been ignored for 20 minutes before them telling us the kitchen is closed. Rudest service I’ve seen a long time

Beautiful gardens with great selection of cider

Stayed in a beautiful room , my room was a disabled person room , it is so comfortable and the bathroom is massive with the best shower ever !! . The food is fantastic and the staff are lovely . The land lady is just amazing !!! Can’t recommend highly enough . Loved the area , will definitely stay here again and tell all my friends .

Fantastic family friendly pub which our kids love. This is our go to pub when we spend the day at Longleat. The family room is massive and easily has enough room for the 5 of us plus all the luggage we bring.The staff are all amazing and the breakfast is brilliant!! looking forward to our next visit.

Fabulous pub, friendly atmosphere, great Wadsworth beers and surrounded by lovely walks. Can't fault it!
