Incredible place!
Pick a category, food, service, atmosphere, rooms, all simply outstanding. We planned to stay for one night and ended up extending our stay. We were made to feel so welcome, from the moment we opened the front door to to the moment we left. Nothing was too much bother and the atmosphere was; and I appreciate this sounds odd, but ‘joyous’ (happy staff who seemed to genuinely enjoy their jobs and get a buzz from connecting with customers). The place is dog friendly with a nice selection of beers (and also non-alcoholic beer options).
Accomodation was also superb - clean, quiet and super comfortable. Recommend booking with the breakfast included as it is something special.
A few months ago we had some disappointing experiences at the Windmill with some of the food being unavailable and waiting a long time for meals to be served, but the pub has really made an effort and everything has improved immensely. All the food on the menu is available and meals have been served so quickly. I really enjoy going there and the staff are lovely. Well done Windmill!
Stopped to have a coffee while waiting for a bus to go to football, roaring fire and good coffee. Asked if there is any nearby public parking and said I could park in the pub car park. Very friendly. Thank you
A good find.
Accommodating service. Good food, nice rib eyes steaks, good burgers, good draft cider and lagers. Small menu to maintain quality.
The only thing we feel would lift the steaks, and I caveat this as I know it can be seen as being picky, would be a little portion of seasonal veg i.e. sauteed Savoy and sprouts halves tossed in butter served with the steak, something that I'd be willing to pay a little extra for too. Granted a side salad was available and it was served with tomato and mushroom too, but given the season, warm sauteed veg would be nicer. Only a suggestion.
My mum is VERY picky, and so am I as we have both been in the industry as chefs and cooks so going out to eat is always an increased risk as she is hard to please, that being said, she and I would be very happy to come back.
Also good value.
Recommend. Get down here.
What an amazing find this was. We was booked to go else where but was told not to go there, so quickly rang round and these had availability so we went here. A warm country pub with a lovely atmosphere. Was welcomed into the restaurant by the owner, drink orders were taken, we all chose what food we were having, such a lovely choice, considering there was 8 adults and 4 small children. Starters were presented lovely, mains were outstanding, the flavours were amazing, we all had different but I had the pork which was presented lovely and the flavours was lovely, husband had liver and said was the best he had tasted, everyone enjoyed their mains, we then had a few puddings, not that we could eat as so full but was so lovely and again a good choice, I went for lemon roulade which was a perfect pud to finish with.
The owner was very attentive a very warm and spotlessly clean country pub, which I would highly recommend. If we are ever in the area again I will definitely be going back there.
Very welcoming when walking in, staff are polite and attracts a lovely crowd
First time coming into the town and happy that I ate here, ordered a mega breakfast that came with orange juice and a caramel iced latte. Breakfast was cooked to quality and came within ordering.
Felt very relaxed reading my book here and was asked throughout if I needed anything else
Manager has a brilliant moustache, need I say more?
Will definitely be back :)
20 minute for a table. 30 min wait for food. Kids meals didn't turn up so shared our food with 2 hungry toddlers and 2 babies. They forgot to flavour my padthai so sent back and waited another 15 mins. Received my 'flavoured' padthai which was still the blandest padthai I've ever had and was half the size of my original padthai that I sent back. I eat small portions but this still wasn't an adequate amount of food to call a main. Then half way into it fire alarm went off and had to clear out. To be honest the fire alarm sound was better than the music they were playing which sounded like steel bin lids being repeatedly bashed together. Potentially the worst restaurant experience I've ever had. Congratulations.
