Great food as usual from Sanjay, Sunday roast today was excellent and so much of it, potatoes and Yorkshire’s were cooked perfectly and chicken and beef to die for. Glad when we can eat at the pub, but would recommend his Takeaways. Also would recommend Sanjay Curry’s, my 10 yr old daughter loves his Mild chicken curry. Well done Sanjay Terry & Family

Weve visited twice. Firstly last September when there was four of us. We had a great night out. Fantastic currys and lovely sweets. We even had live music. A much needed night out after lockdown. Second visit was lunchtime , just the two of us. Again no complaints nice food , and nice staff. When things start to return to normal we hope to go much more. A really nice local.

I have been using two other companies for take away Indian food and had no idea the Smokehouse / Pats cooked Indian food. It is wonderful food, you have got to try it, I wouldn't dream of going elsewhere now. To make things even better the owner of the pub gave away 1400 meals over the lockdown period to old and vunerable people. I encourage everyone to try it. We will be back.

Four of us went out for a meal on a Friday evening to celebrate a birthday. We picked The Chiseldon Smoke House because the menu looked very interesting and it was something different. It was a good decision because the food was amazing, really tasty, great quality and well cooked. We had the cauliflower fritters with wild mushrooms, calm prawns, beef brisket popcorn and chicken wings to start and the portions were really generous. We had scampi, ribs, meat platter, steak burger and steak for mains and it was all delicious. The food was cooked fresh and so tasty. we didn't have room for dessert but that's fine because we'll definitely be coming back. I highly recommend this restaurant.

This place has recently changed hands so ignore bad reviews from over 2 months ago. Food delicious my small negative was on my plate the smoked salmon was a bit dry everything else on the plate perfect. Hubbie had ribs and thought them great. Service great male waiter had great sense of humour. New decoration really tasteful

Firstly, I would like to inform potential diners that if they are expecting real smoked bbq food, please do not come to this establishment, you will be hugely disappointed. What you see in the Tripadvsior picture gallery, is NOT what you will receive (at least, this was the case for us (a group of 4) on 21st August 2019). It is unfortunate that I have to write this negative review, as the staff were really friendly, and this is in no way a reflection of their service. But ultimately, it all comes down to the quality of the meal and this fell far below satisfactory for all 4 of us. I booked this restaurant for my friends and I, for a birthday celebration, and we were all very much dissatisfied with our meals. Whilst one of us made a formal complaint regarding the food, three of us decided we didn’t want the evening to be a negative one for our friend who was celebrating her birthday, so we got on with our evening. The one meal which had to be sent back to the kitchen was especially poor, and we were quite insulted that it had even past the kitchen doors. My friend had ordered the ‘black truffle mac and cheese with bread crumbs and chilli oil - there was no black truffle, no chilli oil or breadcrumbs. It was essentially plain dry pasta with a few flakes of cheese served with 4 slices of sandwich bread. There was no taste to it whatsoever. My friend had even said a 50p packet of mac and cheese tasted far superior than what she was served. Now, before we get attacked by the owner/public relations manager (as done so below), I would just like to confirm that we are not pretentious people, we just expect to be served the meal that is being advertised on the menu. Once my friend complained, the lovely waiter was very apologetic and got her meal changed to a halloumi dish, but to be honest, this was no better than something you can pick up from the frozen section at a supermarket and at £8, this was very much overpriced. Thankfully, both her items were removed from the bill. My two other friends had ordered the burgers, they confirmed that these were average - the bun was crumbling and the oil/fat from the meat was dripping out of the bun, so not ideal. Nonetheless, these were edible. I had ordered the slow roasted beef brisket with shallot purée, smoked buttered mash, wilted greens and BBQ beer gravy. I ordered this based on the pictures I had come across on the company website, and from previous posts here on TA. The food in the pictures looked incredible – something that a professional chef would cook. But instead, I was served a microwaved meal. I’m not entirely sure what the meat was, but it most definitely was not slow cooked beef brisket! (see image for reference, you can clearly see the quality of the beef is not the same, I was served something very cheap!). They also failed to serve me the shallot puree and the wilted greens, instead, I was given microwaved peas. I wasn’t even informed that the ‘chef’ would be making this substitution nor was I give an explantion. The ‘smoked buttered mash’ was simply plain dry mash, no flavour whatsoever, and no signs of the smoked butter. The ‘BBQ beer gravy’ was anything but that. As we paid for our food, we remained friendly as the waiter was very pleasant, and it wasn’t his fault that the food had been poor. He did apologise and asked us to ‘try them again when they have a chef’. This left us all puzzled as this implied that they were running the restaurant without a professional chef. Now, if there wasn’t a chef on board, all customers should have been informed that the quality of the food would be reflected as a result. Had I been made aware of this, I would have cancelled the booking and picked a different restaurant. Overall, such a disappointment – Note to venue: Please do not advertise items on the menu and then go on to serving customers something completely different without an explanation. Furthermore, if you do not have a chef, please either close the restaurant, or inform your customers beforehand so that they can make an informed decision as to whether they would still like to go ahead with the booking.

I visited this shabby old place to treat my family and friends to some grilled/bbq food on Sunday, only to discover on arrival that it was roast lunches with about 4 other choices which looked nothing like the on line menu/descriptions. We nearly changed our minds about staying but instead decided to give this place a chance to surprise us. Surprise us they did!!! But not in a good way at all... I have bullet pointed our description of the experience below. One person serving who clearly could not cope. Extremely limited choice unless you wanted Roast lunch?? Had to wait 45 mins plus before any food arrived My Burger relived cold and with no onion rings as did my sons I asked to change to the Roast pork which arrived with soggy burnt Yorkshire pudding and wet non crispy potatoes. I did not get the chance to eat with my friends as my food took so long. It was clear my food had been finished in the microwave to make it hot and of course limp but the plate was still cold. The gravy was acetic and very strange?? We were seated under lights that didn’t work next to an open door. Very gloomy and no ambience at all. The man serving brought BBQ sauce and mayonnaise and dumped it at the end where we were all eating the bland roast food. Surely he could have made the effort to put it next to the people that requested it?? He kept apologising and yet when I went to pay the extortionate bill (£103) he took me to the other bar where drinkers were eating big piled up plates of potatoes and roast pork which I was made to pay for. Talk about rubbing ones nose in it eh!!!! NB: Nothing was taken off my bill in the way of an apology so obviously he was not sorry at all. We were all absolutely disgusted and of course very disappointed by the whole experience and unless the management contacts me I intend to let everyone I possibly can know to stay well away from this so called Smokehouse restaurant.

We visited on a Friday early evening because we had young children with us. Being quite a fan of smoked ribs/brisket we were looking foward to trying the food. However, on ordering ribs and brisket we were informed that only 2 briskets were available but no ribs until 9pm because they were still in the smoker? So anyone who wanted to eat between 6 and 9 on a Friday night were out of luck! Not really acceptable in a 'smokehouse' eatery. Our waiter was very apologetic and did then get the children's food out quite quickly. Their portions and quality of food was good. I was 'lucky' enough to have the brisket mash and greens. Some of the brisket was very chewy, brisket (if slow cooked) should be tender and fall apart! The greens were so salty they were inedible. I asked for chips instead of mash and they were OK (what can go wrong with chips?) The others in our group had meat from the kiln. The brisket popcorn was chewy, the taste was ok just not much on the plate for the price. I have to say that the service was good, and the young man that served us was excellent. Would we go here again... probably not unless we read some really good reviews.

When my wife visited on a previous occasion with family members she had a lovely meal and a thoroughly enjoyable experience. Our visit was somewhat different. A door was blocked because a band was setting up - that's fine. What wasn't fine was that two hours before they were due to be on we were subjected to several (poor it has to be said) drum solos and to many instances of the set-up team demonstrating their inability to count beyond two. Eventually we were 'treated' to a burst of what was to come later in the evening. Suffice it to say I would not have wanted to be dining after nine. The food, to be honest, was a little bit meh. One had a full rack of ribs - just ridiculously large - though very tasty Two had the 17 hour smoked brisket to include salted mash, greens and a shallot puree. The beef was beautiful and the greens fine - simple green beans. However, the mash was very lumpy and there was no sign of a shallot puree. When I asked it was, apparently, in with the mash. I have to say I couldn't taste any shallt at all. On the plus side, our waiter was very affable and helpful - as well as being apologetic for the noise. So, all in all, not great but not awful. But certainly didn't live up to what I was expecting what I had heard about the place.

Yet another misguided attempt to emulate American style cuisine. Smokehouse BBQ is suppose to be cheap, filling, of large portions and made of the cheap local ingredients. We ordered Prawn flatbread and Meat from the Kiln. The Prawn Flatbread came with focaccia style bread certainly not flatbread, we ordered the “calm” versions in preference to the “voodoo” because I’m not a chilli lover, in fact I hate chilli with a passion. Three bits of bread and nine prawns, I’m not a total sado but I can but a pot of king prawns from Asda for about £3 nine prawns and three pieces of the wrong bread was £9 not only this but the so called “calm” version was placed on a bed of chilli sauce that, for me, was by no means calm. Needless to say it was left for my better half to eat. The meat from thdowne kiln wasn’t as bad but as per the prawns just wasn’t worth the £14 price tag. The fashion of chips in a mini fryer basket takes away the opportunity for the proprietors to beef up their portions with cheap chips. Anybody who has an interest in food will have seen southern “down home” style American food served in truck stops and barns and eaten off if plastic trays with disposable cutlery. Cheap, cooked the way momma used to, plentiful and did I say it yes Cheap !! It shouldn’t be frou-frou precious and lets be honest f##$%~g expensive. All in all too small, too pricey, and anything with chilli should in my opinion have a similar warning to nuts. Not for me at all won’t be back and wouldn’t recommend it to anyone.

The food offered on a Sunday lunchtime is very limited, and even then several options were unavailable. The food looked nothing like as nice as it does in the photos. Service was v v slow, particularly considering only 2 other tables were taken while we were there. When it came, it was mediocre, at best. Whilst not awful, I wouldn’t recommend this restaurant for Sunday lunch. It may be ok on a weekday evening, but I won’t be going back to find out.

So, myself and some friends went for a drink on the 11th may. My friend went to the bar to order some drinks including spirits. The person behind the bar told him that he cannot serve him spirits for some reason. So I went up to the bar and asked the person serving if he would like our ID because I thought that may be the reason he said he couldn’t serve us spirits. He replies with ‘I don’t know’. So I ask him how old he is and he told me he was 16!! He also said that he was allowed to serve drinks while be supervised, however, there was no other members of staff around. Later on in the evening, the 16 year old lad finished his shift and sat in the pub with a bottle of cider!!

We placed drinks good selection of bottles ales were available. I ordered the burnt end beans for starters and the Moink (cross between moo and oink) the starters came out quickly and was very delightful with good smokey flavors and a nice warmth to them. The mains were equally as good, cooked well good portion size. The staff were very very good and for 4 adults with starters and 2 drinks each came to a very reasonable £115. Really good to see a failing British pub re inventing itself to stay alive.

Wow, Sunday lunch with a difference. Celebrating my daughter turning a teenager and the team couldn’t do enough for us. The pub has recently changed to a smokehouse and the smoked brisket roast was to die for (thanks for offering extra gravy). The food was beautifully presented, portion size generous and £16.50 for two courses is a bargain. They also very kindly gave my daughter a complimentary dessert for her birthday which made the event even more special. Again, the dessert was as beautifully presented as the mains. I’ve heard the mon>sat menu is equally as good, we’ll definitely be back. If you book online in march19 they will take 20% off the food menu which we didn’t know about and was a lovely surprise.

The food was simply divine and was some of the best food I have tasted anywhere in the world. The king prawn and squid starter was like a work of art and as soon as it arrived on the table I knew this was going to be a great food experience. The squid was truly unlike any I had eaten before, it was thick, juicy and nothing like the usual rubber rings you get in most restaurants and the accompanying picked carrots in the side salad were simply to die for.

Visited tonight for the first time tonight after seeing that their meat is from T J Burroughs, a fabulous butcher in Swindon. We were not disappointed. The food was delicious. We had frickles (pickled gerkhins in tempura batter to start. Last time we had these was in a Roadhouse in Florida, these were even better! Followed by 14 hour beef brisket and the 9oz flat iron steak. Both were absolutely delicious and presented beautifully. Connor, front of house, was really friendly, attentive and helpful. We passed on our thanks to chef (Lewis) and he made a point of coming over to speak to us. He was very passionate about his smoking methods, all done on the premises (no microwave or bought in processed food here), he explained the whole process to us. From what we learned they are currently busier at the weekends, so you should book if going then, but quieter mid week which suited us as a couple. They have a good range of craft bottled beers and a decent gin collection. We liked the decor in the restaurant, candles are always a nice touch. We will definitely be back, there is nowhere in Swindon doing this type of food. Wishing all the luck with your new venture! Connor and Lewis we both a credit to you.
