The fish and chips is fine, but they are advertising gluten free when they don't actually offer it unfortunately.
They advertise gluten free on Sundays, but when you actually call them up to ask they won't make it, presumably because it's too much effort to make up a fresh batch
Update - I followed the instructions they replied with below and they ignored me. Issue still isn't resolved
I went here for a refreshing dinner with my family of 5 one of us is in a wheelchair and can’t walk. So we had to carry him in. All I could hear the whole time is someone upstairs shouting. The food was soggy and horrible. WOULD NOT RECOMMEND!!!!!!
We went to celebrate a relatives birthday and eight of us were seated on a long table. The staff were very friendly and efficient and willing to tweak the food to personal preference like heat of dish or different ingredients, my wife wanted prawn Kashmir instead of chicken and this was no problem. The food arrived at the same time so no one was waiting and we all enjoyed our meal which was very good and all dishes were hot. A very enjoyable evening and we will be going again.
Don’t waste your money! Chips Lukewarm, chicken very dry! Coleslaw like shop brought in! Staff seem more interested in themselves while massaging each other. Rather than actually interaction with the customers. They wanna take tips off the Weston-Super- Mare one cause they are definitely doing something right! I won’t be going back to the Abbey wood Nando’s that’s for sure!
Always have chicken shish kebab. Had it delivered this evening. Plenty of chicken. Asked for sauce in a pot for the small person. It came in a pot as asked. No complaints
Read a lot of negative reviews about this place. It has changed, but in terms of a fish and chip shop it ticks all boxes.
One size fish, One size chips is obviously their way of simplifying the menu.
Fish was decent with crispy batter, nice chips.
Good value also.
I live locally-ish. Tortworth has options for different occasions and I love that. I really should go more often.
Last night was dinner with an ex colleague. We’re foodies and want to enjoy what we are eating whilst we gossip.
We arrived early, straight from work and first to be seated. We had a perfect window seat looking over the garden and those enjoying their summer drinks in the sun.
Joseph/Joe was our server, who was young, helpful and very sweet. Attentive but not overbearing. Great recommendations and insights on what other guests thought of options.
Pink Prosecco to celebrate a new job with some olives and artisan bread. Yum! I think my friend had pan fried cod on risotto but I can’t be too sure because I was lost in my grilled halloumi on giant couscous! Really hearty and light at the same time. We had a classic tiramisu but it was dressed with little biscotti, tiny pieces of meringue and fruit, that made it just a little bit different. Nice touch.
We finished off in the bar next door with Paloma and a Mojito.
Perfect evening, thanks Tortworth!
Ps my condolences for Lady Grey she will be missed.
We ordered a take away and gave clear instructions to our address - the driver called shouting in an aggressive manner as he could not find the property - he was sat almost outside, he just needed to turn into the road we had specified on the delivery notes. After much aggressive shouting from him in the telephone where he would not allow us to speak I walked to the end of the courtyard to retrieve the delivery. I was greeted with more aggression when I asked how I could have made the delivery instructions easier for him - he then sped off.
We called the restaurant to report this and the person who answered the phone claimed to be the ‘new person’ and also the ‘only person working on the premises’ - we asked for the managers name and the person hung up on us.
To really add to this experience, when we opened up the food, the order was incorrect.
… this isn’t the first time this has happened with this same driver (in a white car).. but it will be the last as we won’t be ordering from this restaurant again.

2020 - Great staff. Great food
2025 - This store has severely gone down hill. the staff here needs retraining. according to the staff member here "double cheese" here means one extra slice of cheese 4+1=8? 4x2=5?
We absolutely love visiting Tortworth Court and enjoyed another delicious afternoon tea served in the beautiful main dining room. There was a good selection of tea and coffee. The sandwiches were varied, the chicken and pesto wrap was our favourite as it was full of flavour with plenty of filling. The egg and truffle and the smoked salmon sandwiches were delicious. Our least favourite were the pastrami and gherkin rolls only because they were very dry. We really enjoyed the sweet treats too. The chefs are always flexible with dietary requirements and they very kindly made a delicious Eton mess for my elderly mother instead of the cakes which she would have struggled to eat. I have to mention the staff who are delightful especially Scott who was making sure everyone was well looked after, topping up our drinks and checking everything was in order. He has such a lovely friendly disposition and really makes the dining experience so enjoyable.
Me and my mum came here yesterday . The lady that served us .was very welcoming and very helpful.. we sat outside . The drinks and the food were excellent and so was the service she gave us .. we will come back again ...
The White Horse Inn has been left, if not high and dry, then somewhat isolated by the closure of the road due to the motorway to the second Severn Bridge. It is a delightful country pub that hasn't been tarted up so don't expect to get anything recherché here in the way of food or drinks. Things are, country pub fashion, pretty basic but good and I have no doubt we'll be returning.
