Deep Blue Fish & Chips in South Gloucestershire

The fish and chips is fine, but they are advertising gluten free when they don't actually offer it unfortunately. They advertise gluten free on Sundays, but when you actually call them up to ask they won't make it, presumably because it's too much effort to make up a fresh batch Update - I followed the instructions they replied with below and they ignored me. Issue still isn't resolved

I just want to highlight the fact the the Thornbury outlet is still not offering gluten free fish and chips, as advertised on the website. I check every Sunday and we still can't order. We have tried to reach out to Head Office via the official website and also Facebook, and still no response.

Great experience, I came down here with my brother for the first time. Great customer service and not a long wait time for fish and chips. We ordered 2 cod and chips and they came out perfect. highly recommended!!!

Visited today with my daughter for the first time as we aren't local. The manager was amazing! So friendly and welcoming, and the food was delicious 😋 Freshly cooked haddock and really tasty chips. Then as he was closing the shop he gave us some freebies instead of letting them go to waste. A lovely man. We will definitely be visiting again very soon 😊

Extremely disappointed to find that gluten free fish and chips were not available on Sunday. The only offering was chips. I was also disappointed to listen to the fryer complaining about the amount of gluten free orders he was having to make a few months ago ehen i was waiting for a collection. There's a very good reason for that, Mr Fryer.

The guy who served me was very nice, the food was lush and the man gave me an extra fish.

Value for money is terrible. I ordered a large chips £4.19. The portion size is just not worth the money. The chips themselves are ok. Please don’t kill your business trying to charge top prices for undersize portions. Very disappointing.

Service was shocking. Took 30 mins to place order, then 20 more to be served. I made a comment to the lad in the falling down trousers and this was received with a defensive attitude. No apologies at all. I won't be going again.

Ordered from here what a huge mistake that was!!! Picked up the order and it wasn’t even right got less than what I paid for. Tried calling them 28 times over and hour. They do not pick up the phone, what’s the point in having one?! Can’t even complain! No wonder the reviews are all terrible for here. Managers attitude stank! She couldn’t care less. Will never go here again! SHOCKING SO AVOID!!!!!

food delivered early by the driver, who was very pleasant, excellent service, the store staff, rang me first to ask if an earlier time was acceptable. not a problem with me. food was excellent ,hot and prepared as ordered. my experience was really brilliant. thanks to all concered.

When a fish and chip shop fails so badly at chips... A 'large' portion of chips (setting you back over £4) isn't enough chips for two people. They were also totally undercooked, still raw in the middle. I only went here because the other chippy queue was very long and I thought, only getting chips, it would be fine. Never getting food from here again

Absolute joke of a chippy, baring in mind they're not the best one on the high street they put up zero effort to try to get up to standards. They close at 8 on a Sunday, it's currently 7:52 and after calling to place and order 10 minutes ago I was advised they're not cooking anymore food and only had large chips left. I'm not writing this review of the back of tonight's negative customer experience but from EVERY time we used them as an alternative option they have always got something wrong or don't seem adequately set up with that be with staffing, resources or food. Absolute joke.

As always food was good, however 1hr 50 mins for an asap order is a farce.. plus drinks ordered with the food were forgotten so we had to go to collect them anyway… had the delivery fee refunded. As this is the second time we’ve had a very late order it’s unlikely we’ll order again.

Food has gone down hall if my usual chip shop I will go without the one down the road is much look up on thornbury parky's chip shop much better

Very bad ,called before going down asking about glutten free and yes we do till 8pm as on website ,walk in the door at 1901 and told no we stop glutton free at 1900 , called to complain and fobed off , avoid go McDonald's or cook at home

Was really looking forward to my fish and chips on my second visit to Thornbury,and you didn't disappoint. Lovely piece of fish and batter to die for. Friendly, efficient young lady even though she was working alone. Well done on all counts.

Dont get here often as I don't live in the area. But as l'v had good food and good service before, decided to go again. Glad I did!! Hot and tasty, cooked to perfection! Same cheery reception!! even though the young lady was on her own.Portions more that adequate even for the heartiest of appetites.

A rare find, and as a touring motorcyclist it’s always great to find a great venues to stop off at and this one ticked all the boxes for me. They were quite busy when I arrived and my expectations were ‘run of the mill’ dried food that had been under the hot plate for hours. I couldn’t have been more wrong, placed my order which was cooked fresh and end product was absolutely bang on. Considering this was my first visit and the staff didn’t know me from Adam they treated me like a valued returning regular. Great service, great food, I will be back

1st time using this fish and chip shop and we were not disappointed, the quality of the food was excellent and the delivery man was apologetic that the delivery was towards the end of the estimated time but had been busy with deliveries. Highly recommend

I didn't get the sprite with my meal

Really good fish and chips. We both had a large cod. They both were decent chunky pieces of fish with tasty batter. Not greasy like some I've had in other establishments. The staff were all very young but friendly and efficient. The establishment was very clean and welcoming. I would happily return when I'm next in the area.

Fish was light and fluffy with fab batter and piping hot.

Possibly the worst fish and chips ive ever eaten. Wet batter, watery fish that was like mush with Zero flavor, chips were mushy and really odd.

After trying this place, won’t be going anywhere else. Fish was lovely and the batter was perfect. The shop was really busy, but the young girl who served us was really nice and dealt with our order quickly. Definitely recommended and can’t wait to return

food was fine but small servings. a medium serving of chips is enough to 1/2 fill me. Bags of frozen chips are cheap to buy, its the other elements of running a business which is the expensive part. so not sure why they skimp on servings if the rest of their overheads would be the same.

I placed an online order for myself and my family and paid £2.99 for delivery. When I opened the bag and started to plate up the food, I noticed a portion of chips was missing from my order. I immediately called the shop but there was no reply. I tried another four times but again got no reply. The only option was to drive to the shop to get the missing chips. The shop was busy, which I expected in a Friday evening. The staff were apologetic and immediately gave me the portion they had missed. Although they were apologetic, I feel I should have been offered a refund on delivery or the chips I had to collect. I didn’t request one as half my meal was at home. When I got home, the top of the pie that I had ordered was rock hard and inedible. Very disappointed, every time I have ordered from Deep Blue there has been something missing or a problem. I haven’t ordered from them for a couple of years choosing a lower priced, more consistent and reliable competitor. I won’t be ordering from them again.

Was lovely to be greeted by a young man who was extremely polite and acknowledged me as soon as I walked in. Food was cooked fresh, it was piping hot and delicious.. Good value for money

Lovely fish and chips supper, sat at tables outside. The thick white cod was tasty, the batter nicely light, and the chips cooked perfectly. I wish they could provide better wooden forks though, the tiny ones are difficult for eating fish.

We regularly visit deep blue thornbury. Sharon and her staff are helpful and really professional. The delivery guy was friendly and came fast and food was not spoilt. All our food was piping hot and crispy. The fish is to die for as well as the onion rings and burgers. The chips are proper and not soggy like most other places. Highly recommend and will be returning.

Great food from deep blue.. ordered a chicken burger and my partner had battered sausage with chips.. cooked very well and very tasteful.. also for anyone who likes curry sauce i wouod highly recommend it from deep blue on the high street.. will definiatly go back

Overpriced for such small and tasteless food. Food was warm. Gone down hill was a good chip shop. Delivery charge way too much for 2 minutes down the road.

Deep Blue was a very pleasant experience. The food was great and the service was second to none. Sharon was a great member of staff and she was cheerful and pleasant, a credit to the business.

Collected 17 lots of fish and chips on Friday 27January for the over 60s tea room lunch. Although Sharon was not expecting such a large order and considering she was working alone she kept calm and served us with delicious fish and chips which were really enjoyed by all our customers. Would recommend.

Food was nice but disappointed with the service, when we got home we realised part of our order was missing we attempted to ring to inform them but unable to get through. When returning to the shop to resolve the it was felt though that we were not believe! The issue was resolve it made unpleasant experience and left the rest going cold at home.

Wow, I can't actually believe I just paid £6 for literally 6 tiny mouthfuls of salt & pepper squid! That is not a decent portion size.

Ate here a few times and noticed that the prices have skyrocketed faster than Elon Musk sending a Tesla into space. Anyone that thinks paying £15.48 for a Scampi and Small Chips is acceptable needs their head checking. Bang average food at ridiculous prices. They don’t even deliver anymore, so you might as well go to the far superior chippy 100m down the high street (Parky’s). How they’re still in business is beyond me, I genuinely hope they close and make way for a cheaper alternative i.e. a diamond dealer or a Lamborghini showroom. Would give minus stars if possible

Ordered and came 10 mins early. My Cod was delicious. Sometimes in transit batter can get soggy but no. Batter was beautifully light and crispy and lovely piece of cod too. Chips were also good and my sons meal was good too . Best fish and chips I've had in ages!

I have already called the shop to tell them, because I was so pleased with the order, but I thought I’d leave a review as well…. We don’t order takeaways a lot, because they are too expensive. I understand why this is and it’s not the establishment’s fault - things are just so costly these days. However, I did order the food this evening as a special treat. We were not disappointed. The large cod was cooked to perfection and was enough for 2 people, the large chips was huge (we had a few leftovers) and the battered sausage, curry sauce and mushy peas were lovely too. We devoured our treat and enjoyed every mouthful! This truly was a lovely meal and I would highly recommend this chip shop! Everything was perfect and our delivery arrived on time by a friendly and polite delivery man. 10/10!

Ordered 47 fish and chips for an event. Sharon and her team provided superb service in delivering on time and just what we ordered, and all 47 agreed the meal was just what fish and chips should be. Delicious.

When I came here I enjoyed my experience because not only was the food great I felt comfortable holding a conversation to the staff. The customer service was brilliant and I would recommend.

Literally a hit or a miss on nice food, mainly just terrible chips. Terrrrrible chips. And then tiny chip sizes for {BIG PRICE}. If you want re heated and re cooked and ones that's been sat there all day then this is place to come. In thornbury its just terrible for any takeaways standered.

Below average chip shop. Food boxes were dripping with fat. Chips were hard, dry and just not good. Charging £3+ for a sausage that looks like it was aneamic and questionably even made of sausage and just looked like poor quality meat. For that price is just not good enough. Very expensive for the quality. I would be happy to pay the price if the food was nice. But it wasn't.

Honestly the most expensive chessey chips for a small portion I ever purchased. Not great value, especially given collection also.

Every time we order from deep blue Thornbury something is wrong with our order. Usually it’s missing an item. The shop say we will give you extra next time if you let us know. That’s not acceptable when someone had to go without. This time I orders a chicken burger and beef burger and ended up with 2 chicken burgers. Couldn’t get through to the branch and the app wouldn’t accept my issue. I give up. I’m Not ordering from deep blue Thornbury again

Not clear at all that chips do not come as part of the ridiculously expensive cod order! £15 for two pieces of bland fish in a box, while offering a regular or large portion and salt and vinegar options, under the impression these come with them because of this and the price, not made clear anywhere that that isn’t the case. Was also missing a curry sauce, also overpriced, and everything was pretty bland and tasteless, not to mention the tiny portions. Large chips was exactly the same as regular, and both were tiny for the price. Absolutely no customer service too, at no point could I get a hold of anyone on the phone.

Do not order from this place for delivery, especially from Just Eat. It is not made clear whatsoever that ordering a regular cod (ridiculously priced at £7.39 EACH for a small piece of fish) does not involve coming with chips, despite the option for a regular or large and salt and vinegar options. I ordered two of these and for over £15 I received two sub-par pieces of fish in a box. They also failed to add one of the curry sauces I ordered (which are also a stupid price for the measly size). Large chips are no different than the regular, both are tiny. Absolutely no customer service, although I do understand that it’s a busy Friday night. Also the delivery guy was very kind. Despite that, I doubt I’ll ever order from here again. Completely taking advantage of being the only place in thornbury to easily deliver fish and chips.

I was surprised at the portion size of chips. For the price, I was expecting more. Others I was with also commented, so it wasn't just me being greedy :) Also fish was quite salty and the food wasn't very warm when it arrived.
