The White Horse Inn has been left, if not high and dry, then somewhat isolated by the closure of the road due to the motorway to the second Severn Bridge. It is a delightful country pub that hasn't been tarted up so don't expect to get anything recherché here in the way of food or drinks. Things are, country pub fashion, pretty basic but good and I have no doubt we'll be returning.

I dropped in for a quick pint and ended up staying all night! The atmosphere was great. Staff were awesome and the landlady couldn't do enough. Food looked plentiful and everybody seemed to be enjoying it. I'll be back to try some soon.

3 of us called in for lunch(for food go into the bar on the right, which is the dining area) We were the only ones eating as it is a quiet place,a bit out of the way. It was clean! The barmaid gave us a nice welcome. 2 of us had sausage/egg/chips and 1 ham,egg and chips, very nice it was too. Well cooked and plenty of it. First time we have been for at least 6 months,we will not leave it so long next time. We would recommend. We had soft drinks so cannot comment on beer, etc.

Wipe your feet on the way out. Its like a dirty front room. Visited before for food and only ate (nervously) as no other option to feed kids at time. Food v average. Visited again on sunny day to give benefit of doubt. Nope still a hole. No draft beer.

We stopped on a cycle ride. Unfortunately since I last visited they have stopped serving draft beers as apparently they were having to throw away to much. That said the bottled Doombar was very drinkable. We ate in the garden. Service at the bar and for food was friendly and helpful.

Can't believe how long it took to be served and then for our order to come out. Seemed ridiculous, surely rather than having a chat with the locals you should serve people after a hearty pub lunch. Woman was rude when finally bothered to take our order. Toilets could do with a good scrub too!

Have been to this pub for lunch a few times now, and it always delivers. Friendly, unpretentious, and serves excellent fresh food. Doesn't try to be too fancy, but concentrates on doing traditional pub grub very well - tasty, keenly priced, and excellent portions. Highly recommended.

Called in at this pub on the off chance for a beer at around 7.00pm on a sunday evening--- lounge bar seemed closed and in darkness--- so we went into the public bar, very sparsely furnished, waited several minutes for service for two pints of beer as the staff were more interested in the cash machine, several locals present who were talking and swearing loudly, beer good, but we could not leave quickly enough, television on,jukebox on, not at all a welcoming reception, just excessive loud noise

Great old style pub with a fine Sunday lunch, well worth trying. Think wobbly tables and plenty of hardwood

Have eaten here frequently, the staff are warm and welcoming and the atmosphere is relaxed and jovial. The locals are friendly, some a little louder and friendlier than others... But there's always a smile and a hello. The food is served at lunch time and most evenings, though not Sunday's as they have a busy afternoon with Sunday roasts. The menu is simple and yet the food is so well presented that even the most basic food looks superb. There is also often a delicious selection on the specials board. The staff are always keen to help and although my step son is coeliac and therefore gluten intolerant we can always find something for him to eat.. Sometimes we do bring our own beans and Maggie the cook is happy to add them to his meal. " the best jacket potato, cheese , ham and beans ever..." Take it from a six year old .. There is a garden out through the skittle alley with lots for the younger clientele to do, swings etc.. Thoroughly enjoy every visit.

This is a traditional down to earth reasonable priced public house. If you want corporate style and fast food this is not for you. If you want down to earth and a real pub. This is for you. Personally I love it and I am a professional working in the city. Maybe this is the appeal. Can't beat down to earth traditional English pubs.

Went there on Saturday 24th October on our way to Cardiff. Instead of the usual stop at the motorway services we did a google search for pub food off the M4 and this plavce came up. Although it is in a cul de sac in the middle of nowhere it is only 2 miles off the M4. We had not trouble finding it and on arrival thought we had made a mistake however, looks can be deceiving and we had a very good meal that was excellent value and the service was superb. Would definitely recommend the White Horse Inn and will be returning next time we visit friend in Cardiff.

An attractive looking pub in a rather out of the way cul-de-sac, it’s unlikely to get anything in the way of passing trade and is consequently something of a local’s pub, although they do have a skittle alley which obviously must attract visiting teams. A small garden with a few picnic benches is out the front, along with a good sized car park. Internally it consists of a public bar to the left and a lounge to the right. We didn’t inspect the public bar, but from what I could see it had quite a rough and ready appearance. I also noticed a plasma mounted up on the wall and a darts board. The lounge was more traditional, although perhaps a little dated. The usual red patterned carpet was on the floor along with some lino around the bar counter whilst the walls were predominantly cream with some maroon details and woodwork. There were a couple of chunky wooden beams on the ceiling and exposed stone walling at the front. The room was divided in to two with some wood partitioning, with the rear half being filled with tables and chairs, and having a little less atmosphere, perhaps. The front half was a little cosier with a stone fire-place, a few small water colours on the walls and bench seating around the perimeter. The menu offered a good selection of “pub grub” dishes such as chilli con carne, lasagne, sausage and mash etc., and these were mostly priced around the £7 mark. The only item on the “specials” board was hot dog and onions at £3.50! My chicken tikka masala had some decent chunks of tender chicken in it, but it was really a rather bland, generic curry with little flavour. I certainly wouldn’t have known it was a CTM and there was far too much rice in proportion to the curry. A dish of faggots with mashed potato and gravy was again, fairly average. Nothing particularly wrong with it, but certainly nothing special and Mrs B. made the point that it tasted as though it had been nuked in the micro-wave. The solitary beer on tap was Doom Bar, although a second pump appeared unused, so there may perhaps be others on occasions. The only cider that I saw on the bar was Thatcher’s Gold, although another punter was drinking something that appeared to be a traditional cider, so perhaps I missed that.

Found the pub by accident whilst out cycling, it's on the cycle pat from Severn Beach to Thornbury Route 41 I believe, not far from the original Severn Bridge. A large area for parking at the front of the pub, across the road (a dead end so no danger from passing traffic). There is seating on both sides of the road as well as would be expected inside in the two bars. The order of the day was Sunday Roast, a choice of Lamb, Beef or Pork, lashings of vegetables as well as gravy. Can't recall seeing a larger plate full of food in recent memory, and so cheap, six of us ate for under £40. The locals were friendly and there was also plates full of cheese, biscuits and crisps on the bar which were free. I spotted two real ales and I think four real ciders, obviously as I was driving I couldn't go too mad so stuck to Black Rat which is well worth the visit if only to sample the cider.

Had the festive menu, after a very long wait, thought because the food was preordered we wouldn't have to wait so long. Wish the sprouts were cooked longer, and potatoes with the sea bass weren't cooked. Was compensated for this though. Enjoyed the puds.

Visited here for dinner on 11/09 during a walking holiday. Nice decor and welcoming staff. I had a pint of Gem, and was able to use (their only) beer jug! Wine list was good and the pinot blush was approved by my partner. Starter portions were good, the pork bites were very nice as was the Bruschetta, then I had the burger and she had the Gnocchi. Both were good sized portions and very tasty! It was so friendly we popped back for a pint the following lunchtime and were recognised as soon as we walked in!

although the building looks run down and the shop out dated, the food is quite fresh tastes ok and is reasonably priced, however besides one blonde lady the staff are rude and quite short. they are supposed to close at 4 but normally are closed by about 3:50. the donut selection is random I never know what they will or wont have id go greggs if it was closer
