Read a lot of negative reviews about this place. It has changed, but in terms of a fish and chip shop it ticks all boxes. One size fish, One size chips is obviously their way of simplifying the menu. Fish was decent with crispy batter, nice chips. Good value also.

Cost me £15 for a large cod and chips, sausage and curry sauce. Cod was small cold and chewy, chips was nice but slightly warm. Was a fast service but not worth the price

Pisces is under new managment and the food and service is fantastic. Fish and chips were perfectly cooked and the mushy pease was tasty.

Since the new owners have taken over it has massively gone down hill. The fish was soggy and overcooked and the chips were cold and overdone. Will not be back, what a shame, it used to be very good!

Friday night July 1st 2022. First time to Pisces since change of hands. Just the worst chips ever !!! chips too small and thin which meant when fried were more like scrumps ! couldnt eat them . Will not be rushing back.

I was keen to try out the chippy after it had been taken over by new management. So two cod and chips were ordered to eat at home less then tem minutes from the shop on Friday 6th. Straight away when we opened the boxes we could a problem. Chips were luke warm and needed 30 secs in the microwave. The Cod was very dry and tasted odd. Hence to say in the night suffered stomach ache and in the morning violently sick. Felt rough all day and even writing this my stomach is poorly. So I will never enter there shop again as food poisoning is deadly

Since recently been taken over by the same people who run Frydays, the fish and chips now just taste of cardboard. That unique taste you always got from when the owners who recently retired ran it will forever be remembered. Shame it’s gone forever. My visit today will be my last.

Have been going in weekly for a few weeks and have been concerned about the lack of mask wearing. Our concerns escalated yesterday when we entered the shop and 4 customers lined the counter, all without masks. Surely this is a point of law. A closer look revealed a child of around 3/4 years old BEHIND the counter playing with food boxes which were all over the floor - not a good look. To be fair, it IS difficult to confront the public about masks and it is difficult to staff a shop at short notice. I understand the difficulty but a child in a chip shop situation is a HUGE safety issue. We have made the decision not to visit again although we have enjoyed the food they produce.

I don’t mind waiting for freshly cooked food. And the food is normally great. However if you dare to visit within an hour from closing you’ll be lucky to get served. (This has happened a 90 minutes before closing to us and at least 3 different occasions.) It’s very easy to keep one fryer on to serve fresh food up until 10 minutes to closing. You only need one heater on to store food. Finishing up can take less than 15 minutes past closing if you know what your doing. However staff are two concerned with getting out the door bang on time. If the clock hits 8 we go straight to frydays because you won’t be fed at Pisces! If food wasn’t so nice it’d be a 1 star.

Probably the best cod and chips i have eaten, tasty chips and a lobely thick piece of cod covered with not to much batter. Will revisit.

Supposedly freshly-cooked food, but we have just had the worst box of chips we have ever experienced - looked like end -of -pan scrapings, and tasted of burnt oil. Fish batter was overdone, and we suspect that the fish might not have been as fresh as we'd hoped. Possibly because it was an early Monday evening? In any case, this was probably our last Pisces experience. Sad - they used to be very good, if slightly pricey.

What a great chip shop this was, it says they close at 10, no they dont! they close at 8.30 ! or if its not busy they just give up and scrub down , not the best way to attract loyal customers. I still say the fish and chips are the best , when you can get them!

Been using Pisces for many years was passing today so called in. Staff seems more interesting in talking among there selfs. One was adjusting her hair (blonde ) then went on to do the food not even washing her hands unbelievable !! They must think people do not notice bad enough without the pandemic but should be extra careful now. Won’t be using Pisces again put my right off my meal through it away !!!

Absolutely DELICIOUS, our completely fussy kids asked “CAN WE GO EVERY NIGHT PLEASE” highly RECOMMENDED and worth it!! The special are truly SPECIAL

Good portions, great value,excellent taste. Trip Advisor seems to think this is predominantly a restaurant. They're wrong. While outside seating is sometimes available, Pisces should be thoughtof as a takeaway. Orders are accepted by telephone so they can be ready for you to collect. No delivery at the moment but I doubt there's enough delivery bikes to keep up with demand if they offered it. Regular customer

Called in on a works lunch break believing the 'hype', I'd heard good reports and remember them being featured on a BBC consumer show some years ago. Ordered Chips and Curry sauce, took some time to get my order even though it was quiet, the Chips were poor, over cooked and shrivelled up with a dark brown look and the sauce was hotter than the Sun temperature wise, look, I want my food hot but 15 mins later it was still inedible! So disappointed I threw it away, sorry.

What has happened to Pisces! Tonight went in to collect an order just after 5pm, the girl serving shouting and calling the young man behind the ranges a d.....head. Not only was it totally unprofessional the pair of them didn't seem to have any idea of what their 'show' to put it politely looked like to customers. The chips tasted like they were cooked lunchtime, the fish was dry and I would be amazed if it was cooked fresh, all in all an awful experience. Have been a customer for many years but this is the last time I will go in there. Poor product and poor customer service.

I have been to Pisces many times over the last 5 years and the standard is always high, fish fresh and well cooked, excellent chips.The reviews that I have read which suggest otherwise - claiming poor quality or small portions must either have been written by 3 Michelin star chefs, whose standards have no relevance to a traditional chippy, or total gluttons who probably need double portions of everything at every meal.Or perhaps there is some rival proprietor who seeks to destroy a long standing reliable local business.Try it for yourself is my advice.

Called in tonight toget a takeaway and wished I'd drove passed .Shop was rammed with people waiting ,3 young people working but noone actually getting any food .While waiting to be served heard other customers asking how long before receiving their orders ..it ranged from 40 mins to a hour .I left as could cook it quicker at home .Tonight was my final vist as been unhappy for a while with the price hike ,shrinking portions and at times tasted like over cooked chips ,also either not enough staff to cope or staff who seemed not sure what todo. Only bright side is I'll save money and itll help my diet

I have had top quality fish and chips every time I have visited. The batter is crisp, the fish is fresh and the chips are always freshly cooked proper chips.

Small portions hardly any chips in a box and didnt taste fresh at all not good taste and was such a long wait

I called in as my usual fish shop Fridays was closed. Bad move...the tiny bit of fish was slopped on top of the very few chips in a tiny box (beware the photo!) Really bad show and not worth visit and money. Definitely would it NOT recommend!!!

I have used this fish and chip shop a couple of times now and thought I would write a review. Both times I have had a good experience and the food has been cooked fresh and has been delicious. The staff seemed very friendly and took the order promptly. Both times I have had to wait 10-20 minutes for the food once I had ordered. However, the first time I was one of only two people and was just waiting for the fish and chips to be cooked. The second time the place was rammed and I waited about 5 mins to order then about 15 mins until food was cooked. I have no problems with this. I would rather wait for fresh food than soggy warm food. I was surprised at the cost too.... very goo value for money. Portion sizes are good but not ridiculous so there isn't much wasted but plenty to fill you up.Good selection of classic fish and chip meals as well as some other specials that I spied on the board.NOTE: do check/ask if you have dietary requirements. They are helpful.

Popped in after a very busy Tuesday for a very rare treat & couldn't have been more disapointed. Ordered 2x large cod, 1x medium chips & a battered sausage...portions were tiny & not even sure it was Cod due to it being very thin fillets. Both were very dry, over cooked & barely coated in batter, chips were awful & battered sausage was missing it's batter..total waste of £15..We shall not be returning or recommend.

Love this place. Chips were amazing and so was curry sauce.. but there was no batter on the battered sausage? That's usually the best bit..didn't have time to take back as only have a very short time to eat..but disappointed today

The chips are the best here, I'm not really into Chips but I do Like Pisces. Try the fishcake if they have any, freshly made so Once they've gone, that's it.

Wow. The only chip shop I've ever come across that doesn't sell chicken! Was near £7 for what was clearly half a piece of cod,and barely any chips. Would not recommend

We waited 45 minutes for 3 portions of small chips. I noticed they were bagging up only one order at a time, I work as a chef in a very busy cafe in town and we plate up multiple orders at once to stop thede horrendous waits. I understand that it was busy but 45minutes for chips?!?!

Not sure if they have had a change of owner but it's no where near as good as it was. Chips tasted old and the fish was average at best. This place used to be stellar so not sure what's happened. Won't be back in afraid (and must have been her 20x in the past!)

We’ve had fish and chips from here on numerous occasions in the past and even thought it’s pricey and sometimes there’s a long wait, the food has been tasty.

I book in advance, and I can collect on time! The food is excellent, great cooking, great taste, great service!! What else can I say? First class.

What what supposed to be a quick easy tea was the opposite. We went to pieces and deliberately picked food which we could see was ready in the hot counter. Although we could see the food was ready in the counter we were still forced to wait our turn in a que for food that we could see was cooked. My wife walked to the local Tesco and back and I was only just coming out of the shop. Once we arrived home we were less then impressed with the food. The chips were greezy and sparse. The Pastry on the beef pasty was to hard to eat. It was one of the more expensive fish and chip take away we have had and was really on the whole very poor. We usually use the chip shop in cranleigh court road and we will be going back there from now on and would highly recommend that to anyone. Our whole experience with Pieces was poor from the food and the waiting times and will never go back again.

I’ve been eating at this chip shop for decades and the food is great. BUT it is always slow service. So it’s saturday, 5pm, not busy, and I’m waiting for two fish n chips for 20 minutes now and there’s no sign yet. Come on guys. Step it up a gear.

Traditional fish and chip shop. Great quality. You may have to wait a bit longer but its cooked for you, not kept warm for you/anyone else.

This is a quality chip shop & you get what you pay for. The fish is cooked to order, as are the chips which means you may have a slight wait but its so worth it. Staff are smiley & polite.

On the mad dash around trying to get various jobs done I needed a bite to eat and Pisces presented itself. Ordered a large portion of chips and a battered sausage, sadly it is not possible to buy a large portion of chips so had to settle for regular chips and a battered sausage (I'm sure that there use to be a rumor that the customer is always right, must have dreamed that) broadly ok, nothing to right home about but they filled a hole

Good food, lots of choice. Cooked in but oil which is a bit concerning. Sometimes depends what day you visit but sometimes can be a little greasy.

Which was about in 1970 something, I used to live on Westerleigh Road in Yate, it was a Friday night treat.

Really good fish, chips could be a little crispier. If anything goes wrong with your order they correct it and give it to you free. Very popular so at peak times there will be long queues.

The fish and chips used to be excellent quality and good value for money. Over the last year the quality has become inconsistent and more recently the food is more often than not, quite poor. This evening the food was inedible, the chips were greasy and luke warm, at best they had been sat around for a while or at worst were lunch times chips warmed up. The fish batter was greasy and the fish didn’t,t taste particularly fresh. It’s a great pity as this used to be the best fish & chip takeaway in the area..

The chips are good, but I have to second another review in that the waiting time is madness. It would be helped if the staff gave you an indication of the time to wait, like most fish and chips places do, and I accept sometimes you have to wait for a new batch of chips, but it was 35 mins just to get two portions and we were joined by a large number of people waiting who were also bewildered by the wait time and no communication. Like most people I can accept good things take time, but it needs someone to tell you what’s happening to accept a delay like this and still come out feeling like a valued customer.

Very poor, I waited nearly half an hour for sausage & chips & there were sausages cooked but it was just bad service, the portions are so small & chips & sausage were cold also the chips were hard crispy & dry! Quite expensive too! I wont be returning

Trust me on this. If you like great fish and chips you just have to go tot his place. The batter is crispy and light and the chips are cooked in special oil that make them taste just amazing!!!

The food here is very good, the shop is clean and well presented and there’s loads of parking BUT, the system of ordering and waiting is nonsense. You order your food and pay and then wait your turn, which is fine for big, multi orderes but if you order one portion of chips you might have to wait 20 mins for the other orders to be cooked and served and even when I asked to just get my one portion of chips, which I could see there was enough chips to serve me they wouldn’t serve them to me instead I had to wait for about 3 other customers orders to go out first.

This is my go to chippy. The fish and chips are wonderful and my son loves the pies. The fish and chips are never greasy. The portion sizes can be large but we always get one lot of chips for two but if you have a large appetite then you will be ok. Parking can be difficult just park over the road in B&Q.; The staff are friendly and although it can get very busy they have a ticket system so you know exactly where you are in the queue.

Fantastic food. Great service. Highly recommend Haddock, Chips and Curry Sauce. Really the best! Would not go anywhere else

This is a best fish and chip shop in town. A little on the expensive side when compare with others but they are the only ones who does a steamed fish in town, if battered ones are a bit heavy for you ( just like me ) .

My son's and I had cod and chips tonight and thought we would try some chicken nuggets...the fish and chips were to their usual high standard and the chicken nuggets were without question the best I have ever had from anywhere. Highly recommend this place, it's such a gem..

I have been here three times when passing through the horror that is called Yate. This chip shop is actually pretty good and one of the high lights of the dreary suburban town it resides in. Easy to park. Fresh non greasy chips and fish. Staff are really nice. There is not much to recommend about Yate apart from this chip shop.

Bad weather for a few days so little in fridge so had to get a take away. Turned out to be a good choice,very busy when we arrived,but got served quickly and the queue moved quite fast.We had two regular cod and one regular chips this was plenty for us. The fish was amazing, crispy batter and light fluffy fish, the chip were also very good great colour and taste. Would definitely try again.

Had an evening meal in Bristol cancelled, so called into Pisces for convenience on my way home. I have to say this is my favourite fish and chip shop in the area, so it was no surprise that my fish and chips were up the usual very high standard. Fish freshly cooked with the batter being lovely and crisp, and the large piece provided excellent value for money! Will definitely be back!

Lovely fish and chip shop offering excellent quality and quantity of food. I love the fact that you even know which potatoes they are using fir their chips. Everything is prepared fresh so be prepared to wait if they are busy but well worth it

The clue is in the title. Pisces offer the best fish and chips in Yate with nice crisp chips to crisp batter. Reasonable prices and a good trade.

Asked for chips ad was surprised at the small portion enough for a chip roll I thought even for a child's portion that would be too small....ridiculous would not come back here again

The fish & the chips are excellent you cannot get them any better anywhere else but unfortunately this time the oil had got inside the batter & stayed there,which was a shame.My wife,s was the same. All cooked fresh & plenty of parking available there..

I got a cod chips and curry sauce , wasn't a very good size and fish was average. It used to be much better here, overpriced

I'll recommend the fish and chips, either haddock or cod, both cooked really nice in a light batter. Can't say much else really. Parking available .

It might be a short wait for your food but it’s worth it. Freshly cooked fish in batter that stays crisp is hard to beat. It has become our favourite chippy.

My takeaway of choice in Yate. Easy to park and nice shop front. There are seats our use although on a busy road.

Can't fault perfect fish and chips, quite a long wait but you could always take a seat, not anymore though. I was told that they stopped seating as customers made marks on the windows.

I have travelled to Yate many times in my life and always noticed the Pisces Chip Shop, but I had never had the opportunity to treat my self to a meal in there ( after being told how lovely the food was ) until today. IMAGINE my surprise when I got home to find the smallest portion of chips I have ever been served. They were more like scraps, no exaggeration if I wanted to go on a diet I would eat there every day and watch the weight drop off.

Went in there for fish and chips. There was a notice on the wall stating 'Todays chips are made from maris piper potatoes from Cornwall. We would like your feed back'. They were barely luke warm, soggy and awful. I ate the fish and binned the chips.

I love this chip shop! Every time I purchase my chips from here they are always delicious! The only thing that lets the place down:-portion size is always different -staff are lovely but depends who you get served by, some of them can be rude, and not all of them ask if you would like salt and vinegar on your chips???-they always run out of things, the last Tim they ran out of fish cakes, mushy peas, chicken burgers and curry sauce! So I had to have chips and battered sausage instead, and I don't like battered sausages:( -it's always busy!!-very expensive!But apart from that it's a beautiful place to get your chippies! The food is always fresh! This I would recommend:-chips-cheesey chips-Fish cake-chicken burger -curry sauce!

Had a lovely fish and chip supper at this takeaway. Fish was soft and tasty with a lovely crisp batter. The chips were awesome, cooked with beef dripping the old fashioned way!! All food is cooked to order so expect to wait a while but it's well worth it.

How can someone below write big portions they are the smallest portions I have ever seen even if you order large. We ordered chips as they were not cooking anything else and the pies left looked like they had been sitting there all day! Very disappointed, should be able to order right up to last minute of closing not left with the scraps! We have now decided to use Frydays down the road offer much bigger portions for half the price! And taste much better!

I have always lived close to Pisces and believe it or not it used to be one the places I would go and eat with friends when we thought we weren't cool enough to hang out in McDonald's! (This is long before the renovation, when there was seating upstairs and downstairs!) I've always thought that it has been great value for money. Anyway, I was hunting through Trip Adviser for somewhere good for cheap fish and chips and I was reading a lot of reviews before I made my decision. I previously popped in a few weeks back whilst returning home from work (only had chips!) and it was lovely. I decided to go for a pig out meal so I ordered a large cod and chips, I had to wait a little while but clearly this was down to the fact I had to wait for freshly cooked chips and fish which I didn't at all mind! I was served by a girl who I believe is called Poppy? I might be making that up. But she was cute and provided great customer service! The food was amazing and the portion size was rather big (in contrast to what a lot of people have been saying on here!) to the point I couldn't actually finish the meal, but alas myself and my dog really enjoyed it!I will be popping in again!

Just stopped here when passing on a Sunday evening and and wow! Chunky white fresh fish, thin tasty batter, fresh chips. Even the children said it was the best they've ever had! Would definitely come back, delicious!

Called in at this fish and chips place on the spur of the moment and I was pleasantly surprised - people complaining about the portions being small - normally it is the other way round and increases wastage of food!!There was a small portion and larger portions available - it was busy on a Saturday lunchtime (3rd December) which is always a good sign meaning a good turnover of food - the chips I had were piping hot and nicely served in a cardboard box which made transport easier and keeps them warmer - the small portion was just right for me and thus left me full without being stuffed and I do have a good appetiteFew tables and chairs on the outside so was able to sit down and eat before I got the train home - as shown on the pictureA car park next to the shop is also great and keeps cars off the busy road whilst waiting for the food

I've spent less time waiting for a flight than I have waiting for them to serve up some fish and chips. I think I might by a fishing rod instead and save some time... quite nice when they finally arrive though

We were on holiday and popped in for cod and chips, battered sausage and a fishcake.Although the cod looked small, it was very thick and filled me up, the sausage and chips were lovely, but the fishcake was out of this world, with lots of parsley. Had several fish & chips tonight. Tend to use several local takeaways in the area and don't seem to be lucky here as there is usually something not right. Tonight the chips we good but the fish was tough as old boots for both of us - disappointing. Ok

Extortionate prices....minuscule portions. Every time I go to this place it reminds me why I don't go there. Tiny portions ( I mean how much do potatoes cost really, keep skimping on your portions you will lose more and more custom) poor!!!

Premium fish and chips. If you want it, expect to pay more and wait longer for it. I think it's worth it imho...

It's more expensive, but you get what you pay for. They'll tell you where the spuds have come from (somewhere local), serve you with a smile, let you sit down and watch TV whilst you wait and provide a clean and friendly atmosphere. Very snazzy place too, giving an upmarket feel.

As above..home made fishcakes are lovely with the little pots of fresh sauce.Very efficient and friendly staff.

The fish & chips were cooked excellent.My dog had some of the fish & if he eats it that is a good guide to what it is like.Served by the lovely owners daughter who is very polite & has a lovely smile.Will be back for more soon,will probably have the hake next time for a change.We went to the famous black & white cafe in whitby last year.My dog would,nt touch the fish & we left ours,piscis should be up for an award as the best fish & chip shop in the area.

Fish & Chips ok. Nice chips as fresh not frozen chips. Quite a long wait for food. Nice chicken nuggets as proper chicken pieces. Would like a little more batter on the sausages.

Called in after work to pick up some tea, now I know the food is very good and cooked well, the fish cake in particular but I do not get the waiting game subjected to all.I asked what pies were available ready cooked and I was told that there were chicken and mushroom, great I will have that with chips so I don't have to wait for anything to be cooked, I paid and was given a ticket. The server went off into the back and about five mins later returned and took the pie out of the warmer and put in some chips, they then called my order number out.The pie was already cooked, no new chips were cooked, I was the only one in the place so why the wait. This happens every single time I go in.The food is great and the staff pleasant but the wait is crazy

Pisces is a regular fish and chip shop. I sometimes drop in when I fancy some cod and chips.. or a pie. The service can take a little time especially in the evening after work.. which is how I can vouch for their sausages... since I was starving hungry one evening and heard "cod and small chips" instead of "sausage and chips". So I took it and unwrapped it when I got home. Instead of the usual juicy cod I had a brace of sausages and chips. Near enough! :v

There is little to say here other than to confirm that the fish and chips are simply excellent. Good sized portions and all served fresh. Best fish and chip shop I have ever been to.

Ordered two small cod and chips and a kids box meal. Had a 5 minute wait as cooked to order but no problem there. Food arrived very nicely presented in brown cardboard boxes but upon opening were shocked to see just how small the adult portions were! Our 3 years kids meal was probably that bit bigger??!! Cod was square? Food piping hot but could have ate the same amount again! Homemade curry sauce very tasty. We enjoyed but wouldn't visit again as left still hungry!

i was sat outside then two lots of people smoking in the outside seats which ruined my meal I know its outside but its your property any chance of smoking signs on the main seat area.i like the staff good food but sort out the smoking it must put groups off sitting in the restaurant area it is not good.

You cannot fault this chippy. I have been there a number of times and it is consistantly good quality.

Best fish and chip take a way I the area. The Plaice is excellent, light batter and top quality fish. My husband enjoys the other fish and the pies are great too.

My partner and I popped in here at 7:30 last night (Sunday) on our way home from a very busy day out and thought rather than go home as start cooking we would grab something “quick”. We went in to order “2x plain sausage and chips twice”. Which is our normal chip shop would cost around £5.40, but it came to almost £8! I’d expect to pay that for fish and chips not sausage and chips!! The portion sizes are very small too! We usually share a portion of small chips but we ordered regular and that was the size of a small bag anywhere else!There was only 1 other person in front of us and usually when sausage and chips is one of the quicker things to order… but not here… 25 minutes later, and people who came in after us being served before us, we were walking out with our order! I could have gone home and cooked Sausage and chips in a little over that time and it would have been a lot cheaper! Wont be going back!

Friday at work is obviously fishy Friday! So where better to go then Pisces, the fish is always cooked well with the batter just right and to die for, other options available but traditional fish and chips is a must, you can takeaway or seating outside. Staff friendly too but don't take my word for it go try for yourself.....ENJOY!!!

Just back from Pisces. Delighted to see when the large cod was pulled from the fryer how amazing the batter was. So fluffy and crispy looking. However the server places the fish in a oblong cardboard sort of flat shoe box thing so the fish and it amazing batter are a good inch above the edge of the box and proceeds to close the lid. Result squashed cod and greasy chips. Sad really.

My other half and I have been going to Pisces fairly regularly since last summer. Avoided it like the plague when I was younger as the chips were pretty greasy and yuck when I was a kid, but they're fantastic now! I always have a portion of cheesy chips, although I'm told the fish and batter are lovely too.There's always a queue, which is a good sign, the staff are friendly and the food is always piping hot, unlike a lot of places where its lukewarm.I actually think it's great that there's no large option - there's nothing worse than feeling like you've over-eaten or having to waste what you can't finish.The people complaining about price have no idea what they're on about; I'd rather pay a bit more if the food's going to be good, and Pisces certainly doesn't break the bank!My one complaint is I find there's not quite enough cheese on the chips, but then I am a cheese fiend!Keep up the good work, we'll be in tonight!

Great fish 'n' chip shop on main road near Yate. Chips are espcially good and overall they do great quality food.

Visited on a whim this lunch.I had a small fish and chips with a can of Rio and portion of homemade tartare sauce. I found the food to be very good and excellent value for money. The tartare sauce is really nice and I recommend trying it as its homemade and so much better than the Heinz tripe that people pie you off with in most other chippies!I like to consider myself a bit of a fish and chip connoisseur having eaten it in many famous chip shops around the country and I would say that this place is in my top three and I'm very lucky to have it on my doorstep. Keep up the good work.
