The best restaurants in Mendip South West

The jumbo Gulf shrimp were juicy, tender, and bursting with flavor—easily the best shrimp I've had!

I wouldn’t mind it being so overpriced if the service were friendly. The Scottish older lady in particular seems to have a real problem with people. A shame as I enjoy the cinnamon rolls!

Lovely food, friendly staff and an amazing atmosphere. What more could you want?

The restaurant is very well decorated, is light and airy. Staff are great, attentive without being over bearing. The food is brilliant with a superb choice of menu. Highly recommended.

Don't drive by thus pub thinking it to closed, you will be missing out. The food is homemade,proper old skool pub grub ,not messed about with or deconstructed. The service is excellent,the staff are warm and friendly. Will definitely be going back soon

Second time eating at The Crown and once again the food and service were first class. A different menu from our last visit but a fantastic selection of original and very tasty dishes. Very reasonably priced too. Highly recommend.

Lovely place. It’s quite small but has loads of delicious products. The café is great with well presented delicious food. Inside and outside seating available.

Owner is there, at the desk .. it’s rare now but it’s clear she cares a lot and is taking a series of steps to make the most of a historic and charming hotel - how many are left which are privately owned?! I had room 108 which was cute and comfy with iconic little views from two windows. Noticed a good sized outside area and the free parking was useful so centrally located in Shepton M. Price was very reasonable for a couple of nights stay. I didn’t eat at restaurant so can’t say how that was but would stay again if in area - so easy to nip down road to Glastonbury and enjoy the Tor views on the way.

As part of our visit to Dunoon, we popped into the is local pub for drinks. Staff were very attentive, prices were average and the range on offer was good. They have a beer garden and some seating inside which we were lucky to get. Worth a visit if you are in the area.

Our first fail at one of the 'Lounge' chain - and an extremely disappointing one. It took over half an hour for our food to arrive, and when it did so, it was cold, with the sauce congealed around the noodles. Cutlery was promised, but the member of staff then disappeared for several minutes. There was no sense of urgency at all. We were given an apology and a full refund, but then had to go elsewhere to find our lunch, and consequently found that we had insufficient time to enjoy our one day in Wells. It was clear that other customers had also experienced considerable frustrations. The poorest dining experience we've had for a very long time.

Stopped by Cornish Bakery for a quick coffee and was genuinely impressed. The coffee was rich, smooth, and perfectly balanced — clearly made with care. It had that deep, comforting aroma that hits you in all the right ways. The barista was welcoming, and the cozy atmosphere made it easy to sit back and relax for a bit. If you’re after a quality coffee with a warm, local vibe, this spot is a gem. Will definitely be back!

Have previously stopped many times for takeaway fish and chips however the setting has changed since my last visit and is now much more of a restaurant experience. Food was good however now very expensive for fish and chips. We stopped on a drive for a quick bite to eat and sadly it wasn’t quick either! Shame as always a favourite stop usually!

As soon as we arrived we knew we made the right choice, bustling bar , friendly welcome great outdoor space. Menu was a perfect amount of choices we shared 3 starters of crochets , scallops and wood pigeon all delightful followed by fish and chips (peas gorgeous) great wine list very reasonable prices. We ended our meal with a rhubarb dessert . Great find online while having weekend off work and looking to venture out for weekend. Our room was so comfortable , we will definitely visit again ! 5*

What a little gem and great value, Located on the edge of a small village. A surprising large hotel and restaurant. Very large car park, Great views. Inside is modern but contemporary vibe. Check in desk, not open 24 hours. Room service is available. Bar - Good selection of drinks including wine, cocktails, lagers and real ale ( no sparklers). Dogs allowed in bar area. Food - there is the bar area and at least 3 other rooms. Good food selection including vegetarian and vegan. Very good value with a daily speciality at an amazing price. Rooms - my room was large, great shower, clean. Rooms cleaned daily with fresh clean towels. Tea and coffee with biscuits. Water also provided. Smart TV. WI-FI - free WIFI throughout the hotel, and good speed

Excellent village pub with great food, great staff and a cosy fireside atmosphere. Highly recommend a visit. Lovely walks nearby.
