Certainly didn't feel value for money from a Sunday roast today. Lanb portion tasted very nice but was very small portion. Slither of meat, four small roast potatoes and a Yorkshire. + One tiny dish of mixed veg between two. £15 each. Mine was a standard portion. They also served a small and children's. Goodness knows just how small they would've been though. Having eaten there, I went straight back home and ate another proper sized meal.

We needed a meal enroute from our son in Taunton. Saw the sign on the main road, so we gave it a try. Meal was wonderful I had the home made faggotts my wife had the lunch special of roast lamb. Both served with good helpings of fresh vegetables. Both were excellent, hot,and exceptional value. Staff were lovely, helpful, friendly. We had pudding afterwards spotted Dick, just like mother used to make. We spoke to Dawn, and said how much we enjoyed the meal. We will visit again when over that way, well cooked excellent value.

We walked into the pub and were ignored by staff until we walked towards an empty table, and were told the place ‘was full’. We pointed to the empty table but were told the kitchen were ‘too busy’! We had driven a considerable distance, based on Tripadvisor reviews. Very inhospitable and rude. 👎

Went for a Sunday lunch today for my mums 89th birthday. Their were 10 of us. It was a great service. A few little issues, but sorted without any hassle. One thing we thought would of made it better was maybe instead of coming out with lots of gravy, bring out gravy in gravy boats. Must admit the Raspberry pavlova absolutely lush. Thank you

I have been to this place twice, the first time was pretty good, however, the second time was busy and was terrible. Absolutely no idea on how to cook a steak and, after complaining that I didn't enjoy the meal, not so much as sorry much less free drink. Additionally, the prices online are about half the actual prices at the pub. Would not recommend going!

Started off well. Lovely old building, much more character on the inside than the outside suggests. Reminds me in a good way of how pubs used to be. Shame the woman running in was just downright rude. Seems to be a theme running through other reviews. The barmaid was lovely and friendly. The place was quite full with nowhere obvious to sit. There was an area with four tables with the lights off so I asked the barmaid if she could turn them on, and she happily agreed. Sat down at the table and a rude and unpleasant woman came over and told us we couldn't sit there, they weren't using the room tonight, and we'd have to sit somewhere else. No smile, no apology, no pleasant words. As we're walking out of the area confused wondering where the hell to sit, I said quite loudly "care to suggest somewhere?" and the woman turned back and said "there's a large table through there", directing us into a cramped back bar occupied by a group of locals who obviously weren't happy at being intruded upon. My partner was really upset by this point so we ended up leaving our drinks and walking out. I've drunk at all the local pubs on the back roads round here... The Knatchbull, The Bell, The Vobster, The Poacher's, Strode Arms, The King's Head, The Talbot... all fantastic pubs with warm, friendly staff and punters. Never found any of them less than pleasant and welcoming. Never had a problem in any of them. Never had reason not to wholeheartedly recommend any of them. The Wagon and Horses is a whole different story and I wouldn't go back if you paid me.

Loves dogs, so very pet-friendly, fantastic homemade food. We had a table booked at our hotel, but there were issues with the gas supply. So I Rang the Wagon and Horses near Shepton Mallett and asked for a pet-friendly table. They had one, and so glad they did. It was fabulous food. My son and husband said it was the best steaks they had eaten for years. The fish cakes were homemade and tasted terrific. My daughter-in-law had chicken and tarragon and loved it. Unfortunately, we didn’t have room for pudding, but it was Christmas Eve, and we loved the first two courses. We forced ourselves!!! Raspberry pavlova was giant but delicious, and my husband had the cheesecake thinking it would be small, but it wasn’t. So I went for mint and chocolate ice cream. The pub was traditional, with real log fire snug chairs and friendly locals and staff. Also has a good size car park. My son, daughter-in-law and dog live in Shepton and be back soon.

This was a lunchtime visit which we had booked earlier in the day. When we put in our order I asked for a 125ml glass of wine and was bluntly told by the lady behind the bar thatthey only did 175ml so I switched to Coke. This and my partner's soda water were almost flat. My beef pie was very tasty but the sugar snap peas with it were not stringed and I found them inedible. When the lady came to take our plates she asked if everything was OK. When I told her about the drinks and peas she commented that you always get one who complains. All this with the same straight and miserable face as over the wine. Then she just walked off. I commented loudly to my partner how rude this was and we did not order the puddings we intended to but left as soon as we paid the bill. As I said to the girl who took our money her colleague shouldn't ask if everything was OK if she was unprepared for us to be honest. She did apologise about her colleague. We shall not return

I would love to review this pub - it looked great when we arrived at 1 pm for lunch. Sadly we were told we could not have lunch as they were short staffed. This was perplexing as there were only about 5 tables with customers who were already eating and no reserved signs on the empty tables. I can understand the challenges pubs are facing with staff but it would have been more welcoming to have been offered a drink and snacks or a wait for food later- it was all very abrupt and made us feel like an inconvenience rather than customers who were willing to spend money in their pub. There were only two of us and we would have made do with drinks and crisps given any encouragement to stay!

Always give a place a second chance. I hadn't been there for several years. Previous experience of beer soaked carpets with your shoes sticking as you walked has been transformed. It was clean and tidy with a nice fire and the toilets were spotless. The menus was file. There were six of us 2 went for the salmon and dill, one the pie which was large and had good quality content two for the fish, one was a small portion the other regular. The regular was huge. I opted for a special - liver and bacon with all the trimmings. Only 3 could manage deserts. I had the bread and butter pudding with icecream. Excellent. A few minor problems with the card machine when paying but the bill including 3 rounds of drinks and coffees for some came to £24 a head including a tip. I live locally and it is confusing as to opening hours and a simple A board outside would help as well as tidying up the car park. This would bring them more custom. The staff were welcoming and the service was fine.

Our experience was similar to others on here. Walked in to be greeted as if I we were something the landlady had just stepped in. We were glared at and given an extremely filthy look, we were then talked about as if we weren’t even there. Evidently very upset we decided to support local business and spend our money in her establishment. We won’t be again. Might I suggest she either puts herself on a ‘Customer First’ course or find another vocation in life as this one obviously doesn’t suit her. With hindsight we should have walked out there and then, we were made to feel unwelcome and unwanted. Awful experience.
