Fosso Lounge in Mendip

Our first fail at one of the 'Lounge' chain - and an extremely disappointing one. It took over half an hour for our food to arrive, and when it did so, it was cold, with the sauce congealed around the noodles. Cutlery was promised, but the member of staff then disappeared for several minutes. There was no sense of urgency at all. We were given an apology and a full refund, but then had to go elsewhere to find our lunch, and consequently found that we had insufficient time to enjoy our one day in Wells. It was clear that other customers had also experienced considerable frustrations. The poorest dining experience we've had for a very long time.

Went to the fosso lounge with a friend on Saturday. We ordered 2 vegan breakfast although the food came out relatively quick, it was missing a falafel on both plates. I went to the bar to let them know and the waiter apologised and went off to the kitchen to find out to let them know and after waiting 5 mins he didn't return. We started eating our food as it was getting cold, we managed to finish our food and no falafel was brought out or any further engagement from the waiter. We also never got anyone come and ask if everything was ok with our meal. Although staff friendly and atmosphere lovely, poor service.

I love a lounge bar because I'm a coeliac, and their gluten free menu is extensive, but this one stood out. The service was great and the food was exceptional!

Casual dining in a chic environment.

On a rainy Saturday lunch time, after exploring the beautiful cathedral in Wells, the girlfriend and I managed to find somewhere to eat that wasn’t full. Everyone had taken inside for their lunch due to the rain, and as such the only available seating was two low arm chairs. We graciously accepted despite my initial reluctance. The atmosphere was excellent. Bright and vibrant. Ambience was nice, full of people and cheer. One can order via app or going up to the bar (no table service); I ordered the Bang Bang Chicken and a side of onion rings. The bang bang chicken was dry. Like a stirfry with no sauce added. I would have even settled for cheap supermarket chilli sauce. It needed something. The chicken, though dry, served its purpose and it was nice that the veg still had a bite to it. Onion rings were a frozen disappointment. Each was less than the size of one’s palm and tasted of grease and nothing more. Overpriced. Girlfriend chose better with a chicken pannini. But I didn’t taste it so cannot form an opinion. Overall, establishment serves its purpose of feeding you, but that’s about it. The character paraded on the walls is not translated to the food.

My wife and I both ordered the chicken-bacon-avocado salad for £13.95 apiece. Shocked that what we were served barely covered the bottom of a large bowl. I have had pre-dinner salads that were more robust. Again, what was there was tasty, but sparse.

Went in with my wife whilst visiting Wells, sat there for 10 mins , not one person came to serve us. Left and found a great little cafe called Blossoms, great food , fab service , so much better !

Great service despite being very busy and only a few waiting staff. Food delicious and good variety to choose from.

Lounges are always dependable. Good, reasonably priced food, nice atmosphere and great service.

I very rarely complain. We visit here every week, always been very good until this evening. Chips were not the same soggy appeared reheated,, we were told they were from a new supplier. The Burger wasn't it's usual standard bacon rubbery. We almost finished our mains before my partner got her main (Nsai Goreng) which had the hallmarks of a Microwave meal. Hopefully this was an off night, as we have planned a visit next week with friends.

Nice place to chill. Nice food too

Good was tasty but the portion was small. Three strips of chicken does not warrant a main course.

This lounge is a cross between an airport departure lounge and a cresh. Although the décor is lovely and the staff very efficient. The clientele a mix of decrepit angry short tempered confused old people, individuals taking up a table for 4 whilst working solo on their laptops and crying children. If you want a weatherspoon breakfast at inflated prices whilst having a sensory overload, this will be right up your street. It's not ideal 😔

Took my grandchildren for lunch. Good food (burgers and sausages). Lovely area for kids to get books and toys. Gave them crayons and pics to colour in.

Just a very great place for cosy dining, enjoying fabulous cocktails and great atmosphere. Dog friendly, so don’t leave your best friend at home.

Either well for a family brunch gathering. Relaxed atmosphere. Not table service and quite noisy. Breakfast food was good.

A very nice place for breakfast, friendly service ,very reasonable food, very cold inside, wear your coat, children's portions available, we would recommend you try here, we will be returning soon.

We went as a family of 6 on xmas eve. When we were ordering food via our mobile we noticed a lot of meals were not available but we were OK with this realising being Xmas eve how busy they would of been and we all found something we were happy with. When our main meals arrived it was to say the least disappointing, four of us had burgers which arrived with no slaw or side salad and a pathetic amount of fries infact you would get more in McDonald's. Two of us had the Smash burgers which were dry as a bone and at £16.50 I felt robbed wishing we had gone to whetherspoons instead. We had ordered ice cream Sundaes for dessert which came out 3/4 cream and tiny scoop of ice cream, rubbish! The reason I did not complain at the time was due to the fact my mother in law was with us and hates a scene or fuss so I thought I would email head office to which I had no response. A couple of weeks later I popped in the restaurant and spoke to the manger, she was very apologetic and said she would relay this to head office and arrange for me to receive a voucher. I had explained to her that I was not worried about the voucher and it was just a case of me getting my point across, I still have had no response! I won't be setting foot back here and In future I will go to BDW burgers homemade burgers, great portions and better value.

What a great experience we had on Sunday. The lounge was busy but that didn't prevent a friendly welcome, the manager remembered our call to book the table, the children in our party were provided with things to keep them entertained, the young guy taking orders was on the ball, the service timely, the servers were friendly too and the food and drinks excellent and at a reasonable price. Just how an establishment like this should be. Thank you for givimg us an excellent time.

DON'T TRUST IF YOU HAVE ALLERGIES I've generally always eaten in Lounges because I have a few food allergies and intolerances (yeah - I'm the most annoying party guest!!) and it has always catered well for these. Unfortunately this time they well and truly screwed up! I outlined my food issues at the counter (one of which is potatoes), only to find a chip in my sweet potato fries. My other dish also tasted funny (others on my table agreed) and so I can only assume there was a mix up with the non vegan version of their dishes or their Saturday staff are not trained correctly. Until I ate here, I had not relapsed for 6 years. Now, a month later and I am still paying the price and will likely be for months to come. I will never eat there, or in another lounge ever again. In response to the Owner's message: Thanks for the stock response! "You'll let the kitchen know". This should never have happened in the first place. You present yourself as a company who can cater to allergies, when clearly you can't. You obviously don't understand how dangerous an intolerance can be, whereas I am paying for eating at your establishment a month later, and will be likely to for the foreseeable. You are playing with people's quality of life (and indeed, for those with full-blown allergies, their actual lives). Funnily enough, I won't be coming back to any of your restaurants to play health-roulette, and to check if your standards are high enough this time.

My first time at this restaurant. Loved the vibe, the deco, the music, the staff and the food! 10/10 👏 I have a specific food allergy to work around and the manager was so helpful, supportive and competent. That makes all the difference, so praise where praise is due. And we all enjoyed our food - it was across the board delicious 😋 Thank you Fosso Lounge!

Bacon undercooked. Egg and toast over cooked. Upset stomach shortly after. Real shame, has really put me off eating there again.

Lovely place, beautifully decorated, spacious and nice. The food was ok though. I ordered 3 tapas for £13.95. Those were NOT a normal size tapas you get in any mexican restaurant. 5 small cooked crowns, 2 tiny quesadillas and patatas bravas which was such a tiny bowl of half cooked potatoes. I was still very hungry after my food. My partner was fine with his burger. Given all that l, it was cheap, £38 for 2 beers and 2 meals is considered good!

Big restaurant on the middle of Wells high street, lots of space inside but can still get VERY busy in the middle of a weekend. Parking is a bit tricky but location is perfect when hitting the shops

Wandered in this morning looking for brunch with my wife and daughter. There were a few people in and about six or seven tables free in the front so not overly busy, trouble was, every empty table was covered in empty cups, plates and general detritus. So we just sort of hung around at the front for a minute or two waiting to be at least acknowledged but no such luck. The interesting thing is that coffee and food was being brought out to the front, but waiting staff then returned with empty trays ? Why not pick up some of the empty cups and plates on the way back, make an effort, and save another trip? Anyway, after the awkward linger we just walked out. There are plenty of other places in Wells.

What a great team, super food, great atmosphere, it was our wedding anniversary and Chris did his level best to make it special. Fabulous friendly service.

Quirky bar/cafe with varied menu and unusual art decor. Lots of tables. Friendly staff. Food was tasty but could have been warmer. Toilets were okay...noticed that at 11am the 12 o'clock check had already been signed off!

Visit Fosso once a week for a midweek date night. Staff are always lovely. Food is great every time, never had a bad meal. There are different choices for vegetarians instead of the boring standard options we get. I adore the bang bang cauliflower 👌🏻

A very pleasant experience overall.

Went in for lunch, we both had Nasi Goreng, which we enjoyed. Being a Monday it was quite, hence a little lacking in atmosphere.

My chicken had been so deeply fried it was dry, crispy to the point of deep brown and tasted horrid. The chips were ok . And so was my latte. The service and politeness / friendliness of staff were good.

Nice to go and walking around Wells, 🇬🇧 🇬🇧

All lounges are similar but this was a really nice spot in a town thats otherwise quite expensive. Thank you. Thoroughly recommend

Waited ages for our food, then when it arrived it wasn't very hot.

Normally I don't have a problem with the Fosso lounge but the last 2 visits have been disappointing. I ordered a smashed avacado brunch which was teeny weeny tiny and had 3 very small pieces of avacado on a small slice of bread with an egg and a drizzle of sauce. At least the egg was of normal size! But hardly a brunch and cost just short of £10. At the weekend we stopped by and shared a bottle of Tempranillo which was simply awful..

To begin with, our table needed cleaning. A young guy attempted to clean it, by flicking crumbs etc onto the floor with a micro-jcloth! Not overly impressed by this! Ordering was easy as was payment. Slightly disappointed by the quality & portion size but service was quick.

Family meal. The food is excellent. Coloring and pastels for children as well as a book stand available. Excellent time and excellent value for money.

Great food - particularly enjoyed the Buddha bowl. Cheeky Mondays was excellent value for money. Staff were very polite and helpful.

Lunch at Fosso lounge is pretty good. The menu is very comprehensive, offering meat, vegan, and gluten free options. The beyond burger was good, the hummus not so much. But overall everyone enjoyed the meal.

We have visited Fosso Lounge many times over the past 3 years and have always been impressed with the food, VFM, service and atmosphere. Today was far from that. My wife ordered the ‘Smashed Advacado’ - It was a total disappointment as it appeared that they had forgotten the Advacado. We bought this to the attention of a member of staff who explained that the menu had been changed 🤷‍♂️ Not good enough Fosso. Sort yourselves out otherwise you will lose your loyal customers 🤦‍♂️

A nice spot for brunch when in Wells. Prices are okay for what you get, although the portions are not huge, the food is very pleasant. We visited on a Monday morning and it was quite quiet, no issue finding a table in the week. It is well positioned so you can explore the city after your visit.

Their nasi goreng is actually pretty good! Would come back

Met up with friends and had dinner here. The lounges are dog friendly which is great as we both had our dogs with us. Quite a few other diners were inside with their dogs too which is nice to see. After all, the country bangs on about it being one of the most dog loving nations!! I'll hold judgement on that as other countries are way more dog friendly, but the lounge is keep up it's part here. Ordering was easy. Just order via the QR code on the table or pop up to the bar to order. I tried the Cowboy Smash Burger. Burger tasted great, but maybe a little to rich for me at times with all the different flavours and sweetness. Didn't think it would fill me up but it did. The Cherry Bakewell cocktail was nice. Certainly one to try at home one day.

No words can describe the feeling of leaving the fosso lounge so disappointed. I can't imagine going back. 3 strikes and your out sorry fosso. I won't be recommending fosso anymore.

I have always enjoyed fosso in the past, the outrageous prices and small portions have been overlooked due to the ambience feeling slightly more 'upmarket'. Even though dogs are allowed on the furniture. However the superior nature of the management style really grated after we were told that we had ordered wrong when we did not get what we asked for. The supercilious and snide attitude of both management and servers will ensure I will not be returning or recommending it to anyone in the future. Farewel fosso you cheating swindling dirty dog lovers.

Great place....tapas menu is lovely....shame the arancini has vanished....burgers are great too....if you want a quick meal, in a pleasant relaxing comfy atmosphere, then this is the place to head for in Wells.

We love a Lounge and always visit for breakfast when there is one nearby. We had the Lounge poached eggs which were excellent as usual with one exception - the food was a bit cold! Hence loss of a star but it won’t put us off visiting again.

Went with my wife and friends,ordered Nasi Goreng and had to send meal back,due to portion size was minimal compared to several lounges I have previously visited. Admittedly, the waitress taken my meal meal and brought back another meal ,of which was more acceptable. However, my wife's chicken in her burger was very dry and small,but didn't complain as we was with friends and make anymore fuss. Our friends appeared to of been OKwith theirs. Not sure whether to eat there again or not. Shame as the Fondo Lounge in nearby Street ,serves really nice food and staff a lot more friendlier.

We came for a quick brunch. There was a great choice including gluten-free. The food was served promptly and it was very tasty. Staff was friendly and very attentive.

Second time here, hoping for speedier service. Sadly not, they appear to be consistent in that it took nearly an hour for a burger to be delivered, just not feasible when on a lunch break.

Staff: 9/10 Food 2/10 Dry burger, Bland cold sweet potato fries and a milkshake that despite tlwhat the price would suggest, has likely never been near ice cream... and is sickly sweet.

Disappointing gluten-free meal. Ordered buttermilk chicken strips but it appeared to be a chicken burger. Coleslaw was actually off so couldn't eat it. Underwhelmed.

Could do with a proper deep clean

The place is pretty but that's it. We came mid-afternoon, so few customers present. However, all the empty tables still had the dirty glasses and plates from previous customers. The waiter walks past us without even offering us anything, or even clearing the table. The experience ended there for us. Dirty, no sense of service...

Lovely place for a meal. Plenty of choice and some nice non-alcoholic drinks if you're driving.

Good food at reasonable prices. Staff were friendly and attentive. Lunchtime was very busy but strangely subdued. Sort of bar vibe but didn't quite achieve it.

Went in and took a seat for lunch, as my partner and I have done at numerous Lounges before, and all was normal until we got to the bar to order. Our allergies have never been a problem in any lounge before, but today was different. Presenting a sunflower seed allergy, we told the server that it's not on the matrix, but normally someone will check the ingredients list to ensure safety. This gentleman, or this establishment, flat out refused to check, citing company policy; which was obviously news to us. I've rated food and atmosphere as neutral, based on experiences in other Lounge establishments.

Great place to go. Its honestly beautiful on the inside with all the paintings and portraits and i could just stare at them for hours. Food is great there and the waiters are such lovely people ❤️

Eclectic décor is a feature of the lounge franchise, and Fosso lounge doesn't disappoint. Plenty to look at while you're waiting for your excellent food. Friendly staff, good value, tasty food.

First time to Fosso lounge , which reminds me of weatherspoons. The food was hot , family and pet friendly, and over all, I'm glad we chose , this venue, and good pricing

This place is fantastic. The food was very yummy. The best salad I've had ever. Fresh ingredients. Fun atmosphere. Just so much better than a famous pub up the road! The staff here in Fosso are friendly helpful and willing to serve.

We had the best breakfast, enough for 2. The treat was including mushrooms and black pudding. Efficient friendly bar service. Love the old but well put together decor.

Having not visited before despite being local to Wells, we have now visited twice in the last 2 weeks! A very pleasant lunch yesterday, highly recommend the philly cheese ciabatta and the iced latte! Ordering via the app is convenient in a way but we found it probably took longer than just speaking to someone! I love the large open windows at the front, looking out on the high street and the world going by.

Great menu for gluten free. Food was lovely and you didn’t have to wait a long time for it to arrive.

In Wells we saw this great lounge on the way to the local weekend market. Here you are also served at the table. Very quaint and great atmosphere. I drank a very tasty cappuccino. Great atmosphere and for me the best restaurants/pubs I've seen here in Wells 👍

Always decent food in a lounge restaurant and the atmosphere is predictable. Did over cook the squid which made it chewy, everything else was good.
